| 1 | Assessment of selenium pollution in agricultural soils in the Xuzhou District,Northwest Jiangsu, China显示文摘Xuzhou City is an important base for coal production and coal-fired power. To evaluate selenium contamination in this area, we sampled agricultural soil, soil profile, irrigation water, bedrock, coal, fly ash, paddy rice, and vegetables from the north of Xuzhou City, and determined their selenium contents. The background level of selenium in the soil profile was 0.08 mg/kg. The selenium concentrations in agricultural soils and irrigation water were in the range of 0.21-4.08 mg/kg and 0.002-0.29 mg/L, respectively. Soils with high selenium content were located closely to coalmines and power plants. The average selenium concentrations in coal and coal fly ash were 5.46 and 2.81 mg/kg, respectively. In contrast, the concentrations of selenium in bedrock and in the soil profile were very low. These results imply that the high selenium level in agricultural soils is mainly caused by anthropogenic activities, rather than by parent material. The arithmetic mean of selenium concentration in paddy rice was 0.116 mg/kg, and in cabbage was 0.05 mg/kg. The selenium concentration in rice was positively correlated with total selenium concentration in soil, suggesting that selenium in soil is readily transferred into the crops. Furthermore, the estimated dietary intake (88.8 μg) of selenium from paddy rice and cabbage exceeds the recommended dietary allowance (55 μg). | 2 | Effects of long-term green manure application on the content and structure of dissolved organic matter in red paddy soil显示文摘Dissolved organic matter(DOM) plays important roles in soil biogeochemistry activity and nutrients transportation in soils, but studies regarding the long-term effects of green manures on the content and structure of DOM in red paddy soil have not been reported yet. A long-term green manure experiment established in 1982 was utilized to test the DOM contents in different treatments, and the spectral characteristics of DOM were investigated by using ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis) spectrometry and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectrometry. The experiment included four cropping systems: ricerice-milk vetch(RRV), rice-rice-rape(RRP), rice-rice-ryegrass(RRG) and rice-rice-winter fallow(RRF), among them, milk vetch, rape, and ryegrass are popular winter green manure species in southern China. The results showed that the content of dissolved organic carbon(DOC), which is widely used to estimate the concentration of DOM, was significantly promoted after the incorporation of green manures compared with the other sampling stages. The contents of aromatic groups and the degree of humification of DOM increased in RRV and RRP, suggesting more complex compositions of the soil DOM after long-term application of milk vetch and rape. The contents of phenol, alcohol and carboxylic acid group at the mature stage of early rice were significantly higher than those at the stage of after green manures turned over, especially for the RRV treatment. The absorption ratio of FTIR indicated that winter plantation of rape increased the aromatic-C/aliphatic-C ratio, and ryegrass increased the aromatic-C/carboxyl-C ratio. | 3 | Co-incorporation of rice straw and leguminous green manure can increase soil available nitrogen(N)and reduce carbon and N losses:An incubation study显示文摘Returning rice straw and leguminous green manure alone or in combination to soil is effective in improving soil fertility in South China.Despite the popularity of this practice,our understanding o f the underlying processes for straw and manure combined application is relatively poor.In this study,rice straw(carbon(C)/nitrogen(N)ratio of 63),green manure(hairy vetch,C/N ratio of 14),and their mixtures(C/N ratio of 25 and 35)were added into a paddy soil,and their effects on soil N availability and C or N loss under waterlogged conditions were evaluated in a 100-d incubation experiment.All plant residue treatments significantly enhanced C〇2 and CH4 emissions,but decreased N2O emission.Dissolved organic C(DOC)and N(DON)and microbial biomass C in soil and water-soluble organic C and N and mineral N in the upper aqueous layer above soil were also enhanced by all the plant residue treatments except the rice straw treatment,and soil microbial biomass N and mineral N were lower in the rice straw treatment than in the other treatments.Changes in plant residue C/N ratio,DOC/DON ratio,and cellulose content significantly affected greenhouse gas emissions and active C and N concentrations in soil.Additionally,the treatment with green manure alone yielded the largest C and N losses,and incorporation of the plant residue mixture with a C/N ratio of 35 caused the largest net global warming potential(nGWP)among the amended treatments.In conclusion,the co-incorporation of rice straw and green manure can alleviate the limitation resulting from only applying rice straw(N immobilization)or the sole application of leguminous green manure(high C and N losses),and the residue mixture with a C/N ratio of 25 is a better option because of lower nGWP. | Guopeng ZHOU Weidong CAO Jinshun BAI Changxu XU Naohua ZENG Songjuan GAO Robert M.REES Fugen DOU | 2020 | Pedosphere2020,30,5: | 10 |

| 5 | AVP(4-8) Improves Cognitive Behaviors and Hippocampal Synaptic Plasticity in the APP/PS1 Mouse Model of Alzheimer’s Disease显示文摘Memory deficits with aging are related to the neurodegeneration in the brain, including a reduction in arginine vasopressin(AVP) in the brain of patients with Alzheimer’s disease(AD). AVP(4-8), different from its precursor AVP, plays memory enhancement roles in the CNS without peripheral side-effects. However, it is not clear whether AVP(4-8) can improve cognitive behaviors and synaptic plasticity in the APP/PS1 mouse model of AD. Here, we investigated for the first time the neuroprotective effects of AVP(4-8) on memory behaviors and in vivo long-term potentiation(LTP) in APP/PS1-AD mice.The results showed that:(1) APP/PS1-AD mice had lower spontaneous alternation in the Y-maze than wild-type(WT) mice, and this was significantly reversed by AVP(4-8);(2) the prolonged escape latency of APP/PS1-AD mice in the Morris water maze was significantly decreased by AVP(4-8), and the decreased swimming time in target quadrant recovered significantly after AVP(4-8) treatment;(3) in vivo hippocampal LTP induced by high-frequency stimulation had a significant deficit in the AD mice, and this was partly rescued by AVP(4-8);(4) AVP(4-8)significantly up-regulated the expression levels of postsynaptic density 95(PSD95) and nerve growth factor(NGF)in the hippocampus of AD mice. | 6 | Amyloid β-protein differentially affects NMDA receptor-and GABA_A receptor-mediated currents in rat hippocampal CA1 neurons显示文摘Although the aggregated amyloid b-protein (Ab) in senile plaques is one of the key neuropathological features of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), soluble forms of Ab also interfere with synaptic plasticity at the early stage of AD. The suppressive action of acute application of Ab on hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP) has been reported widely, whereas the mechanism underlying the effects of Ab is still mostly unknown. The present study, using the whole-cell patch clamp technique, investigated the effects of Ab fragments (Ab25–35 and Ab31–35) on the LTP induction-related postsynaptic ligand-gated channel currents in isolated hippocampal CA1 neurons. The results showed a rapid but opposite action of both peptides on excitatory and inhibitory receptor currents. Glutamate application-induced currents weresuppressed by Ab25–35in a dose-dependent manner,andfurtherN-methyl-D-aspartate(NMDA)receptor-mediated currents were selectively inhibited. In contrast, pretreatment with Ab fragments potentiated c-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-induced whole-cell currents. As a control, Ab35–31, the reversed sequence of Ab31–35, showed no effect on the currents induced by glutamate, NMDA or GABA. | 7 | Total ionizing dose effects on graphene-based charge-trapping memory显示文摘This study investigates the total ionizing dose effects in graphene-based charge-trapping memory(GCTM) capacitors by using60 Co γ-irradiation. Electrical properties including C-V hysteresis window,gate leakage current, and flat band voltage shifts are evaluated with ionizing dose levels up to 1 Mrad(Si).The C-V hysteresis memory window is hardly affected by the irradiation. The gate leakage current increases with the increase of ionizing dose due to the multiple-trap assisted tunneling mechanism. Significant electrical degrade of the devices in programmed and erased states has been observed with the increase of the dose levels.
