1Brain structural changes and their correlation with vascular disease in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients: a voxel-based morphometric study显示文摘Voxel-based morphometry has been used in the study of alterations in brain structure in type 1 diabetes mellitus patients. These changes are associated with clinical indices. The age at onset, pathogenesis, and treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus are different from those for type 2 diabetes mellitus. Thus, type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus may have different impacts on brain structure. Only a few studies of the alterations in brain structure in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients using voxel-based morphometry have been conducted, with inconsistent results. We detected subtle changes in the brain structure of 23 cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and demonstrated that there was no significant difference between the total volume of gray and white matter of the brain of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and that in controls. Regional atrophy of gray matter mainly occurred in the right temporal and left occipital cortex, while regional atrophy of white matter involved the right temporal lobe and the right cerebellar hemisphere. The ankle-brachial index in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus strongly correlated with the volume of brain regions in the default mode network. The ankle-brachial index, followed by the level of glycosylated hemoglobin, most strongly correlated with the volume of gray matter in the right temporal lobe. These data suggest that voxel-based morphometry could detect small structural changes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. 2Species richness loss after nutrient addition as affected by N:C ratios and phytohormone GA_(3)contents in an alpine meadow community显示文摘Aims From the light-competition hypothesis,competition for light is asymmetric and the observed increases in plant-size variability with increasingly denser canopies are primarily due to competition for light.Greater plant height provides pre-emptive access to light and produces increased height differences among species.The question is what produces these differences in plant height or height growth response among species in response to fertilization.Methods In 2009,a field experiment of N,P and N+P enrichments at three levels each was initiated in an alpine meadow on the northeast Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.Effects of fertilization on species richness,aboveground net primary production(ANPP),relative light intensity and plant height of different plant functional groups were determined.Festuca ovina(grass),Kobresia humilis(sedge),Oxytropis ochrocephala(legume),Taraxacum lugubre(rosette forb)and Geranium pylzowianum(upright forb)were selected as exemplars of each of the indicated functional groups.The N:C ratios in aboveground biomass,gibberellic acid(GA_(3))concentrations in leaves,plant heights and height relative growth rate(RGR)of these exemplar species were analyzed in detail.Important Findings Species richness of grasses significantly increased with increasing N+P levels.Species richness of legumes and upright forbs decreased after N and N+P additions.P addition had no significant effect on species richness.The effects of N+P addition on species richness and ANPP were consistently stronger than those of the single N or P fertilization.Reductions in species richness caused by nutrient addition paralleled the increases in ANPP and decreases in light intensity under the canopies,indicating indirect effect of nutrient addition on species richness via ANPP-induced light competition.The exemplar species that responded most positively to fertilization in height and RGR also displayed stronger increases in their GA_(3) content and N:C ratios.GA_(3) concentrations and N:C ratios were positively correlated with height RGR when the data were pooled for all species.The tallest and the fastest-growing grass,F.ovina,had the largest increase in N:C ratios and the highest leaf GA_(3) concentrations after nutrient addition.These results indicated that differential responses of GA_(3) concentrations and N:C ratios to fertilization were related to the inequality in plant heights among species.Xiaomei Sun Kailiang Yu Herman HShugart Gang Wang 2016Journal of Plant Ecology2016,9,2:10
3Joint spectrogram segmentation and ridge-extraction method for separating multimodal guided waves in long bones显示文摘Ultrasonic guided waves (GWs) can be used to evaluate long bones effectively because of the ability to provide the information of the whole bone. In this study, a joint spectrogram segmentation and ridge-extraction (JSSRE) method was proposed to separate multiple modes in long bones. First, the Gabor time-frequency transform was applied to obtain the spectrogram of multimodal signals. Then, a multi-class image segmentation algorithm was used to find the corresponding region of each mode in the spectrogram, including an improved watershed transform and a region growing procedure. Finally, the ridges were extracted and the time domain signals representing individual modes were reconstructed from these ridges in each region. The validations of this method were discussed by simulated multimodal signals with different signal-to-noise ratios (SNR). The correlation coefficients between the original signals without noise and the reconstructed signals were calculated to analyze the results quantitatively. 4Insight into fouling behavior of poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF)hollow fiber membranes caused by dextran with different pore size distributions显示文摘Membrane fouling is the key problem that occurs in membrane process for water treatment. However, how membrane microstructure influences the fouling behavior is still not clear. In this study, fouling behavior caused by dextran was deeply and systematically investigated by employing four poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF)membranes with different pore sizes, ranging from 24 to 94 nm. The extent of fouling by dextran was accurately characterized by pore reduction, flux decline, and the change of critical flux. The result shows that membrane with the smallest pore size of 24 nm experienced the smallest fouling rate and the lowest fouling extent. As the membrane pore size increased, the critical flux ranges were 105-114, 63-73, 38-44 and 34-43 L·m^(-2)·h^(-1),respectively. The critical flux and fouling resistances indicated that the fouling propensity increases with the increase of membrane pore size. Two pilot membrane modules with mean pore size of 25 nm and 60 nm were applied in membrane filtration of surface water treatment. 5Assessment and Comparison of in vitro Immunoregulatory Activity of Three Astaxanthin Stereoisomers显示文摘In recent years,the immune-modulatory role of all-trans astaxanthin from different pigment sources has been studied.It was reported that all-trans astaxanthin might exist as three stereoisomers,and the composition of all-trans stereoisomers in natural materials differs from that of synthetic products.However,the different biological effects of various all-trans stereoisomers still remain unclear.In the present study,we evaluated the bioactivity of three astaxanthin stereoisomers,(3S,3'S)-trans-,(3R,3'R)-transand meso-trans-astaxanthin,in regulating cell-mediated immune response using mice lymphocytes and peritoneal exudates cells(PECs) systems.After the treatment with three astaxanthin stereoisomers(20 μmol L-1),the lymphocyte proliferation capacity,neutral red phagocytosis of PECs and natural killer(NK) cell cytotoxic activity were comparatively assessed.The results showed that all three astaxanthin stereoisomers significantly promoted lymphocyte proliferation,phagocytic capacity of PECs,and cytotoxic activity of NK cells.Moreover,the(3S,3'S)-trans-astaxanthin exhibited a much higher response than others.SUN Weihong XING Lihong LIN Hong LENG Kailiang ZHAI Yuxiu LIU Xiaofang 2016Journal of Ocean University of China2016,15,2:7
6sLe^(x) expression in invasive micropapillary breast carcinoma is associated with poor prognosis and can be combined with MUC1/EMA as a supplementary diagnostic indicator显示文摘Objective: Mucin 1(MUC1/EMA) and sialyl Lewis X(sLe^(x)) indicate polarity reversal in invasive micropapillary carcinoma(IMPC). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the expression of MUC1/EMA and sLe^(x) and to assess their diagnostic and prognostic value in patients with IMPC.Methods: The expression of sLe^(x) and MUC1/EMA in 100 patients with IMPC and a control group of 89 patients with invasive ductal carcinoma not otherwise specified(IDC-NOS) were analyzed with IHC. Fresh tumor tissues were collected from patients with IMPC or IDC-NOS for primary culture and immunofluorescence analysis.Results: The rate of nodal metastasis was higher in patients with IMPC than those with IDC-NOS, and IMPC cells tended to express more sLe^(x) and MUC1/EMA in the cytomembranes(the stroma-facing surfaces of the micropapillary clusters) than IDC-NOS cells. In IMPC, high cytomembrane expression of sLe^(x), but not MUC1/EMA, indicated poor prognosis. In addition, among the 100 patients with IMPC, 10 patients had sLe^(x)+/EMA-expression patterns, and 8 patients had sLe^(x)-/EMA+ expression patterns. The primary IMPC cells were suspended, non-adherent tumor cell clusters, whereas the primary IDC cells were adherent tumor cells. 7Research and Evaluation on Key Technological Indicators for Airborne and Shipborne Gravimetry显示文摘Gravimetry technical guides are the scientific basis for air-sea gravimetry. However, the existing technical guides in China are behind the application requirements. This study analyzed the most important indicators of air-sea gravimetry, including the density of survey lines, gravimetry accuracy and space resolution, stability and reliability of the air-sea gravimeter, and proposed a gravimetry accuracy assessment system consisting of gravity RMS of error, systematic error and mean error, and an assessment system for the gravimeter stability consisting of the relative accuracy of the scale value, monthly zero-drift, RMS of the monthly nonlinear zero-drift variation and the threshold of the monthly nonlinear zero-drift variation. The mathematic models for the measurement point determination in shipborne gravimetry, E tv s correction for airborne gravimetry, platform tilt correction and evaluation air-sea gravimetry were also analyzed and modified. 8Environmental Embrittlement in A_3B-type Intermetallic Alloys显示文摘Environmental embrittlement in A3B-type intermetallics based on Ni3Al and Fe3Al has been studied in this paper. For the Ni3Al doped with 120 wt ppm B and Ni,(Al,Cr.Zr) doped with 80 wt ppm B,their elongation and ultimate tensile strength decreased in the sequence:of vacuum > air >hydrogen. while for Ni,(Al,Mn) doped with 400 wt ppm B no envifonmental degradation was ob served, although a -Ni3(Al,Mn) alloy without B showed a decrease in ductility when tested in air in stead of oxygen. It is supposed that boron and hydrogen compete for the occupation of interstitial sites near grain boundaries. If boron content is sufficiently low, hydrogen embrittlement occurs ;however, if its content is sufficiently high. boron addition is capable of eliminating envjronmental ef fect in Ni3Al-based alloysi As to the micromechanism of hydrogen embrittlement in Ni3Al+B. S EM in situ observations showed that both grain boundary decohesion and a high stress concentration con tributed to hydrogen-assisted jntergranu lar cracking in this alloy. For the Fe3Al and Fe3 (Al.Cr) alloys.their mechanical properties depended strongly on grain size / grain shape and testing environment. A strain rate effect on ductiIity and fracture strength was also observed in the Fe3Al and Fe,(Al,Cr)+B aIloys. Preoxidation increased the ductility of the Fe,(Al,Cr)+B alloy. 10Monolayer MoS_(2)-based transistors with low contact resistance by inserting ultrathin Al_(2)O_(3)interfacial layer显示文摘Transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDCs)are promising high performance electronic materials due to their interesting semiconductor properties.However,it is acknowledged that the effective electrical contact between TMDCs-layered materials and metals remains one of the major challenges.In this work,the homogeneous monolayer MoS_(2)films with high crystalline quality were prepared by chemical vapor deposition method on SiO2/Si substrates.The back-gate field-effect transistors(FETs)were fabricated by inserting an ultrathin Al_(2)O_(3)interlayer between the metal electrodes and MoS_(2)nanosheets.With the addition of an ultrathin 0.8 nm Al_(2)O_(3)interlayer,the contact resistance decreased dramatically from 59.9 to 1.3 kΩμm and the Schottky barrier height(SBH)dropped from 102 to 27 meV compared with devices without the Al_(2)O_(3)interlayer.At the same time,the switching ratio increased from~106to~108,and both the on-current and field-effect mobility were greatly improved.We find that the ultrathin Al_(2)O_(3)interlayer can not only reduce the SBH to alleviate the Fermi level pinning phenomenon at the interface,but also protect the channel materials from the influence of air and moisture as a covering layer.In addition,the lattice and band structures of Al_(2)O_(3)/MoS_(2)film were calculated and analyzed by first-principles calculation.It is found that the total density of states of the Al_(2)O_(3)/MoS_(2)film exhibits interfacial polarized metals property,which proves the higher carrier transport characteristics.FETs with Al_(2)O_(3)interlayers have excellent stability and repeatability,which can provide effective references for future low power and high performance electronic devices.CHEN Gang LIN Xin LIU Yuan WANG Fang HU Kai SHAN Xin WU ZeYu ZHANG YuPeng NIE WeiCan ZHONG JiXiang REN TianLing ZHANG KaiLiang 2023Science China(Technological Sciences)2023,66,6:2

12Delivery of pOXR1 through an injectable liposomal nanoparticle enhances spinal cord injury regeneration by alleviating oxidative stress显示文摘Oxidation resistance 1(OXR1)is regarded as a critical regulator of cellular homeostasis in response to oxidative stress.However,the role of OXR1 in the neuronal response to spinal cord injury(SCI)remains undefined.On the other hand,gene therapy for SCI has shown limited success to date due in part to the poor utility of conventional gene vectors.In this study,we evaluated the function of OXR1 in SCI and developed an available carrier for delivering the OXR1 plasmid(pOXR1).We found that OXR1 expression is remarkably increased after SCI and that this regulation is protective after SCI.Meanwhile,we assembled cationic nanoparticles with vitamin E succinate-graftedε-polylysine(VES-g-PLL)(Nps).The pOXR1 was precompressed with Nps and then encapsulated into cationic liposomes.The particle size of pOXR1 was compressed to 58 nm,which suggests that pOXR1 can be encapsulated inside liposomes with high encapsulation efficiency and stability to enhance the transfection efficiency.The agarose gel results indicated that Nps-pOXR1-Lip eliminated the degradation of DNA by DNase I and maintained its activity,and the cytotoxicity results indicated that pOXR1 was successfully transported into cells and exhibited lower cytotoxicity.Finally,Nps-pOXR1-Lip promoted functional recovery by alleviating neuronal apoptosis,attenuating oxidative stress and inhibiting inflammation.Therefore,our study provides considerable evidence that OXR1 is a beneficial factor in resistance to SCI and that Nps-Lip-pOXR1 exerts therapeutic effects in acute traumatic SCI.Jing Zhang Yao Li Jun Xiong Helin Xu Guanghen Xiang Mingqiao Fan Kailiang Zhou Yutian Lin Xiangxiang Chen Lin Xie Hongyu Zhang Jian Wang Jian Xiao 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,10:2
13INVESTIGATION OF SOFTENING AGENT PREPARATION AND PERFORMANCE OF HANDMADE ECOCOMPOSITES WITH CONIFEROUS WOOD AND BASALT FIBERS显示文摘In this investigation, basalt mineral fiber softening agent was prepared in order to obtain desirable flexible performance. Stability and physical chemistry natures of softening agent were evaluated by particle size distribution, dilution, storage and folding endurance etc. Constitutes of basalt and wood fibers were determined by energy dispersion analysis X-ray which served as an accessory of scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDAX). Naturally degradable ecocomposite was prepared by basalt and wood fibers. The results of SEM observation illustrated that the wood and basalt fibers were blended uniformly. The impact factors of beating degree, content of wood fibers and adhesive etc. were discussed. The structure of the naturally degradable ecocomposite was contrasted with that of pure wood fibers and the cause of excellent filtration performance was analyzed. Compared with traditional methods, it was of saving wood resource, a large amount of water and reducing second pollution. 14Molecularly tagged genes and quantitative trait loci in cucumber with recommendations for QTL nomenclature显示文摘Cucumber,Cucumis sativus L.(2n=2x=14),is an important vegetable crop worldwide.It was the first specialty crop with a publicly available draft genome.Its relatively small,diploid genome,short life cycle,and selfcompatible mating system offers advantages for genetic studies.In recent years,significant progress has been made in molecular mapping,and identification of genes and QTL responsible for key phenotypic traits,but a systematic review of the work is lacking.Here,we conducted an extensive literature review on mutants,genes and QTL that have been molecularly mapped or characterized in cucumber.We documented 81 simply inherited trait genes or major-effect QTL that have been cloned or fine mapped.For each gene,detailed information was compiled including chromosome locations,allelic variants and associated polymorphisms,predicted functions,and diagnostic markers that could be used for marker-assisted selection in cucumber breeding.We also documented 322 QTL for 42 quantitative traits,including 109 for disease resistances against seven pathogens.By alignment of these QTL on the latest version of cucumber draft genomes,consensus QTL across multiple studies were inferred,which provided insights into heritable correlations among different traits.Through collaborative efforts among public and private cucumber researchers,we identified 130 quantitative traits and developed a set of recommendations for QTL nomenclature in cucumber.This is the first attempt to systematically summarize,analyze and inventory cucumber mutants,cloned or mapped genes and QTL,which should be a useful resource for the cucurbit research community.Yuhui Wang Kailiang Bo Xingfang Gu Junsong Pan Yuhong Li Jinfeng Chen Changlong Wen Zhonghai Ren Huazhong Ren Xuehao Chen Rebecca Grumet Yiqun Weng 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:2

19Short-term responses of an alpine meadow community to removal of a dominant species along a fertilization gradient显示文摘Aims The relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning has intrigued ecologists for several decades,but the effect of loss of a dominant species on community structure and functioning along a nutrient gradient remains poorly understood.The aim of this paper was to test the effect of a dominant species on community structure and function by conducting a species removal experiment along a fertilization gradient.Methods We removed the population of a dominant species(Elymus nutans)in a long-term fertilization field in an alpine meadow on the Tibetan Plateau,China.univariate general linear models were used to evaluate the effects of fertilization and removal on above-ground vegetation characteristics,including photosynthetically active radiation in the understory,species richness,shannon-Weiner diversity index,simpson’s dominance index,above-ground biomass(includ-ing different functional groups)and seedling richness and density.Important Findingsresults revealed that after two plant growing seasons,there was no significant effect of the removal of a dominant species on species richness and diversity of the remaining vegetation,but the biomass of forbs and seedling recruitment were significantly increased indicative of the potential for long-term effects.moreover,removal had a large effect at high fertilization levels,but little effect when fertilization levels were low.our studies indicated that community response to loss of a dominant species was mainly dependent on resource availability and the remaining functional group identities.We also found seedling recruitment was usually more sensitive to the influence of competition of dominant species than the estab-lished vegetation in the short term.Wei Li Jimin Cheng Kailiang Yu Howard E.Epstein Guozhen Du 2015Journal of Plant Ecology2015,8,5:1
