1Models and Algorithm for Stochastic Network Designs显示文摘The network design problem (NDP) is one of the most difficult and challenging problems in trans-portation. Traditional NDP models are often posed as a deterministic bilevel program assuming that all relevant inputs are known with certainty. This paper presents three stochastic models for designing transporta-tion networks with demand uncertainty. These three stochastic NDP models were formulated as the expected value model, chance-constrained model, and dependent-chance model in a bilevel programming framework using different criteria to hedge against demand uncertainty. Solution procedures based on the traffic assignment algorithm, genetic algorithm, and Monte-Carlo simulations were developed to solve these stochastic NDP models. The nonlinear and nonconvex nature of the bilevel program was handled by the genetic algorithm and traffic assignment algorithm, whereas the stochastic nature was addressed through simulations. Numerical experiments were conducted to evaluate the applicability of the stochastic NDP models and the solution procedure. 2Structural color switching with a doped indium-gallium-zinc-oxide semiconductor显示文摘Structural coloration techniques have improved display science due to their high durability in terms of resistance to bleaching and abrasion,and low energy consumption.Here,we propose and demonstrate an all-solid-state,large-area,lithography-free color filter that can switch structural color based on a doped semiconductor.Particularly,an indium-gallium-zinc-oxide(IGZO)thin film is used as a passive index-changing layer.The refractive index of the IGZO layer is tuned by controlling the charge carrier concentration;a hydrogen plasma treatment is used to control the conductivity of the IGZO layer.In this paper,we verify the color modulation using finite difference time domain simulations and experiments.The IGZO-based color filter technology proposed in this study will pave the way for charge-controlled tunable color filters displaying a wide gamut of colors on demand.INKI KIM JUYOUNG YUN TREVON BADLOE HYUK PARK TAEWON SEO YOUNGHWAN YANG JUHOON KIM YOONYOUNG CHUNG AND JUNSUK RHO 2020Photonics Research2020,8,9:3
3Rational Design and Application of an Indolium-Derived Heptamethine Cyanine with Record-Long Second Near-Infrared Emission显示文摘Heptamethine cyanine dyes,typified by indocyanine green,have been extensively employed as bioimaging indicators and theranostic agents.Significant efforts have been made to develop functional heptamethine cyanine dyes with outstanding bioimaging and theranostic utilities.In this work,we rationally designed and successfully developed a novel indolium-like heptamethine cyanine dye by installing indolium-derived polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons on the terminal ends of a conjugated polyene backbone.This dye showed excellent photostability and showed bright fluorescent emission in the second near-infrared(NIR-Ⅱ)window with a peak at approximately 1120 nm.Such long wavelength emission prompted a superior bioimaging resolution in vivo.In particular,this NIR-Ⅱ dye had the remarkable capability of marking the blood vessels of the hindlimbs,abdomens,and brains of mice.More significantly,this dye involved a typical indolium-like heptamethine skeleton and exhibited two strong absorption bands in the 700–1300 nm NIR range,which endowed it with an intrinsic tumor-targeting capability and a high photothermal conversion efficiency(up to 68.2%),serving for the photothermal therapy of tumors under the guidance of NIR-Ⅱ fluorescence imaging.This work provides an efficient design strategy for achieving indolium-like heptamethine cyanine dyes with further NIR-Ⅱ emission.Xiaoxie Ma Yurou Huang Syed Ali Abbas Abedi Heejeong Kim Tan Teck Boon Davin Xiaogang Liu Wen-Chao Yang Yao Sun Sheng Hua Liu Jun Yin Juyoung Yoon Guang-Fu Yang 2022CCS Chemistry2022,4,6:2
4Uniaxially crumpled graphene as a platform for guided myotube formation显示文摘Graphene,owing to its inherent chemical inertness,biocompatibility,and mechanical flexibility,has great potential in guiding cell behaviors such as adhesion and differentiation.However,due to the two-dimensional(2D)nature of graphene,the microfabrication of graphene into micro/nanoscale patterns has been widely adopted for guiding cellular assembly.In this study,we report crumpled graphene,i.e.,monolithically defined graphene with a nanoscale wavy surface texture,as a tissue engineering platform that can efficiently promote aligned C2C12 mouse myoblast cell differentiation.We imparted out-of-plane,nanoscale crumpled morphologies to flat graphene via compressive straininduced deformation.When C2C12 mouse myoblast cells were seeded on the uniaxially crumpled graphene,not only were the alignment and elongation promoted at a single-cell level but also the differentiation and maturation of myotubes were enhanced compared to that on flat graphene.These results demonstrate the utility of the crumpled graphene platform for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine for skeletal muscle tissues.Junghoon Kim Juyoung Leem Hong Nam Kim Pilgyu Kang Jonghyun Choi Md Farhadul Haque Daeshik Kang SungWoo Nam 2019Microsystems & Nanoengineering2019,5,1:2
5Anti-quorum sensing and anti-biofilm formation activities of plant extracts from South Korea显示文摘Objective: To investigate anti-quorum sensing(anti-QS) and anti-biofilm formation(antiBF) activities of the ethanol extracts of 388 plants. Methods: The anti-QS activity of the plant extracts was evaluated by disc-diffusion assays using the bio-reporter strain, Chromobacterium violaceum CV017. Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1, Yersinia enterocolitica ATCC 9610, and Agrobacterium tumefaciens C58, which possess QS systems, were used to evaluate the antiBF activity of the plant extracts. Results: Among 388 plant extracts, the Cornus controversa(C. controversa) and Cynanchum wilfordii extracts exhibited the strongest anti-QS activity. The C. controversa extract exhibited anti-BF activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Yersinia enterocolitica and Agrobacterium tumefaciens, whereas the Cynanchum wilfordii extract exhibited no anti-BF activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In addition, the C. controversa extract suppressed soft rot of cabbage. Conclusions: The C. controversa extract inhibits bacterial QS and BF, and is capable of controlling soft rot. 19TinyML-Based Classification in an ECG Monitoring Embedded System显示文摘Recently, the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) hasenabled continuous and personal electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring. In theECG monitoring system, classification plays an important role because it canselect useful data (i.e., reduce the size of the dataset) and identify abnormaldata that can be used to detect the clinical diagnosis and guide furthertreatment. Since the classification requires computing capability, the ECGdata are usually delivered to the gateway or the server where the classificationis performed based on its computing resource. However, real-time ECG datatransmission continuously consumes battery and network resources, whichare expensive and limited. To mitigate this problem, this paper proposes atiny machine learning (TinyML)-based classification (i.e., TinyCES), wherethe ECG monitoring device performs the classification by itself based onthe machine-learning model, which can reduce the memory and the networkresource usages for the classification. To demonstrate the feasibility, afterwe configure the convolutional neural networks (CNN)-based model usingECG data from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)-Beth IsraelHospital (BIH) arrhythmia and the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt(PTB) diagnostic ECG databases, TinyCES is validated using the TinyMLsupportedArduino prototype. 20Molecular Structural Evolution of Near-Infrared Cationic AggregationInduced Emission Luminogens:Preclinical Antimicrobial Pathogens Activities and Tissues Regeneration显示文摘Increasingly infectious diseases from microbial pathogens(including bacteria and fungi)threaten human health:a situation that has aroused public health concern around the world.Unfortunately,broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents for treatment resistance pathogens and molecular research on their antimicrobial mechanisms are still scarce.Thus,the development of smart agents against microbial infection for surmounting the above dilemmas is an urgent task.In this contribution,we have tactfully designed a family of flexible aggregation-induced emission luminogens(AIEgens)with various alkyl chain lengths and successfully optimized a cationic AIEgen TPA-S-C6-NMe_(3)^(+)based on the molecular relay strategy for killing both bacteria and fungi in vitro with desired results under white light irradiation,superior to traditional commercial photosensitizers including methylene blue,chlorin e6,and protoporphyrin IX.The cationic AIEgen TPA-S-C6-NMe_(3)^(+)was bound to microbial pathogens via electrostatic and hydrophobic forces and exerted antimicrobial efficacy due to the synergistic effect of alkyl chain length,reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation capability,and two positive charges.Remarkably,AIEgen TPA-S-C6-NMe_(3)^(+)also exhibited a striking antimicrobial activity in vivo,and promoted the generation of new blood vessels and fibroblasts in bacteria-infected tissues,which was beneficial for wound healing in mice.Overall,we expect that our work could provide a powerful tool against microbial pathogens to avoid infections and to promote tissues regeneration in clinical practice.Haidong Li Liuwei Zhang Jingjing Han Dayeh Kim Heejeong Kim Jeongsun Ha Jingyun Wang Juyoung Yoon 2022CCS Chemistry2022,4,2:0
