| 1 | Removal of formaldehyde over Mn_xCe_(1- x)O_2 catalysts: Thermal catalytic oxidation versus ozone catalytic oxidation显示文摘MnxCe1-xO2(x:0.3–0.9)prepared by Pechini method was used as a catalyst for the thermal catalytic oxidation of formaldehyde(HCHO).At x=0.3 and 0.5,most of the manganese was incorporated in the fluorite structure of Ce O2to form a solid solution.The catalytic activity was best at x=0.5,at which the temperature of 100%removal rate is the lowest(270°C).The temperature for 100%removal of HCHO oxidation is reduced by approximately 40°C by loading 5 wt.%Cu Oxinto Mn0.5Ce0.5O2.With ozone catalytic oxidation,HCHO(61 ppm)in gas stream was completely oxidized by adding 506 ppm O3over Mn0.5Ce0.5O2catalyst with a GHSV(gas hourly space velocity)of 10,000 hr-1at 25°C.The effect of the molar ratio of O3to HCHO was also investigated.As O3/HCHO ratio was increased from 3 to 8,the removal efficiency of HCHO was increased from 83.3%to 100%.With O3/HCHO ratio of 8,the mineralization efficiency of HCHO to CO2was 86.1%.At 25°C,the p-type oxide semiconductor(Mn0.5Ce0.5O2)exhibited an excellent ozone decomposition efficiency of 99.2%,which significantly exceeded that of n-type oxide semiconductors such as Ti O2,which had a low ozone decomposition efficiency(9.81%).At a GHSV of 10,000 hr-1,[O3]/[HCHO]=3 and temperature of 25°C,a high HCHO removal efficiency(≥81.2%)was maintained throughout the durability test of 80 hr,indicating the long-term stability of the catalyst for HCHO removal. | Jia Wei Li Kuan Lun Pan Sheng Jen Yu Shaw Yi Yan Moo Been Chang | 2014 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2014,26,12: | 9 |

| 3 | Evaluation of the Potential Inhibitory Activity of A Combination of L.Acidophilus,L.Rhamnosus and L.Sporogenes on Helicobacter Pylori:A Randomized Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial显示文摘Objective: To investigate whether three strains of probiotics, L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, and L. sporogenes, had significant inhibitive effects on Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori). Methods: This is a 4-week, randomly assigned, parallel-group, doubled-blind, and placebo-controlled study. Fifty patients with a positive H. pylori infection urea breath test(△UBT) result > 10% and without ulcer symptoms were randomized into a treatment group and a placebo group by a computer generated allocation sheet with 1:1. These subjects took one capsule of probiotics or placebo twice daily. The primary measurement was the change in △UBT values. Results: The △UBT values during the 4-week treatment period and the 2-week follow-up period were not significantly different between the treatment group and the placebo group, indicating that the inhibitive effects on H. pylori were comparable between both groups. The monocyte count(%) was 5.77±1.11 in the treatment group versus 5.09±1.12 in the placebo group(P=0.044), and the basophile count was 0.55±0.32 in the treatment group versus 0.36±0.23 in the placebo group(P=0.024) at week 2 of the treatment period, both of which reached statistical significance. The monocyte count was 5.75±1.26 in the treatment group and 4.72±0.99 in the placebo group at the end of the follow-up period(P=0.003). Conclusions: There was no significant inhibitive effects of the three probiotic strains(L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, and L. sporogenes) on H. pylori. | 4 | Feasibility of Tea Saponin-Enhanced Soil Washing in a Soybean Oil-Water Solvent System to Extract PAHs/Cd/Ni Efficiently from a Coking Plant Site显示文摘Mixed contaminated brownfield sites have brought serious risks to human health and environmental safety. With the purpose of removing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) and heavy metals from a coking plant site, an innovative technology for ex-situ washing was developed in the present work. The combination of 15.0 mL L^(-1) soybean oil and 7.5 g L^(-1) tea saponin proved an effective method to extract co-pollutants from soil. After two consecutive washing cycles, the efficiency rates of removal for 3-, 4-,5(+6)-ring, and total PAHs, Cd, and Ni were approximately 98.2%, 96.4%, 92.3%, 96.3%, 94.1%, and 89.4%, respectively. Meanwhile,as evaluated by Tenax extraction method and metal stability indices, the residual PAHs and heavy metals after consecutive washing mainly existed in the form with extremely low bioaccessibility in the soil. Thus, in the soil after two washing cycles, there appeared limited environmental transfer risk of co-pollutants. Moreover, a subsequent precipitation method with alkaline solution and PAHdegrading strain Sphingobium sp. PHE9 inoculation effectively removed 84.6%–100% of Cd, 82.5%–91.7% of Ni, and 92.6%–98.4% of PAHs from the first and second washing solvents. The recovered solvents also exhibited a high recycling effectiveness. | 5 | Anatomical variation of infra-pyloric artery origination: A prospective multicenter observational study (IPA-Origin)显示文摘Objective: Infra-pyloric artery(IPA) is an important anatomical landmark in treatment of gastric cancer and is the key vessel for pylorus-preserving gastrectomy and subgroup of infra-pyloric lymph nodes. However, its anatomical variation is not thoroughly understood. Our study aimed to clarify the origination of the IPA.Methods: We did this prospective, multicenter, open-label, observational study at gastric surgery departments of34 hospitals in China. Gastric cancer patients aged 18 years or older and scheduled to undergo elective total or distal gastrectomy were assigned. During the surgery, IPA dissecting and exposing the origination point with photographs or video clips were required. The primary outcome was the origination of the IPA. Analysis of variance, χ~2 tests and Fisher's tests were used to analyze the differences between groups. The study is registered at Clinicaltrials.gov(No. NCT03071237).Results: Between May 8 and July 31, 2017, 429 patients were assigned for the study, and 419(97.7%) patients had the IPA dissected and recorded through photograph or video and were included in the primary outcome analysis. The median age was 62 years old, and 73.7% were male. Among the patients, 78.5% received laparoscopic surgery. Single IPA origination was identified in 398(95.0%) patients, including gastroduodenal artery(GDA) in154(36.8%) patients, anterior superior pancreaticoduodenal artery(ASPDA) in 130(31.0%) patients, and right gastroepiploic artery(RGEA) in 114(27.2%) patients. Fifteen(3.6%) patients were identified with multiple IPA and 6(1.4%) patients were identified as IPA absence. The differences in the distribution of surgical approach(P=0.003) and geographic area(P=0.030) were statistically significant. | 7 | Hyperoside protects the blood-brain barrier from neurotoxicity of amyloid beta 1–42显示文摘Mounting evidence indicates that amyloid β protein(Aβ) exerts neurotoxicity by disrupting the blood-brain barrier(BBB) in Alzheimer's disease. Hyperoside has neuroprotective effects both in vitro and in vivo against Aβ. Our previous study found that hyperoside suppressed Aβ_(1–42)-induced leakage of the BBB, however, the mechanism remains unclear. In this study, bEnd.3 cells were pretreated with 50, 200, or 500 μM hyperoside for 2 hours, and then exposed to Aβ_(1–42) for 24 hours. Cell viability was determined using 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide assay. Flow cytometry and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated d UTP nick-end labeling assay were used to analyze cell apoptosis. Western blot assay was carried out to analyze expression levels of Bax, Bcl-2, cytochrome c, caspase-3, caspse-8, caspase-9, caspase-12, occludin, claudin-5, zonula occludens-1, matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP-2), and MMP-9. Exposure to Aβ_(1–42) alone remarkably induced bEnd.3 cell apoptosis; increased ratios of cleaved caspase-9/caspase-9, Bax/Bcl-2, cleav ed caspase-8/caspase-8, and cleaved caspase-12/caspase-12; increased expression of cytochrome c and activity of caspase-3; diminished levels of zonula occludens-1, claudin-5, and occludin; and increased levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9. However, hyperoside pretreatment reversed these changes in a dose-dependent manner. | 10 | Liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma larger than 10 cm: A multi-institution long-term observational study显示文摘BACKGROUND The treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)≥10 cm remains a challenge.AIM To consolidate the role of surgical resection for HCC larger than 10 cm.METHODS Eligible HCC patients were identified from the Chang Gung Research Database,the largest multi-institution database,which collected medical records of all patients from Chang Gung Memorial Foundation.The surgical outcome of HCC≥10 cm(L-HCC)was compared to that of HCC<10 cm(S-HCC)(model 1).The survival of L-HCC after either liver resection or transarterial chemoembolization(TACE)was also analyzed(model 2).The long-term risks of all-cause mortality and recurrence were assessed to consolidate the role of surgery for L-HCC.RESULTS From January 2004 to July 2015,a total of 32403 HCC patients were identified from the Chang Gung Research Database.Among 3985 patients who received liver resection,3559(89.3%)had S-HCC,and 426 had L-HCC.The L-HCC patients had a worse disease-free survival(0.27 for L-HCC vs 0.40 for S-HCC)and overall survival(0.18 for L-HCC vs 0.45 for S-HCC)than the S-HCC after liver resection(both P<0.001).However,the surgical and long-term outcome of resected L-HCC had improved dramatically in the recent decades.After adjusting for covariates,surgery could provide a better outcome for L-HCC than TACE(adjusted hazard ratio of all-cause mortality:0.46,95%confidence interval:0.38-0.56 for surgery).Subgroup analysis stratified by different stages showed similar trend of survival benefit among L-HCC patients receiving surgery.CONCLUSION Our study demonstrated an improving surgical outcome for HCC larger than 10 cm.Under selected conditions,surgery is better than TACE in terms of disease control and survival and should be performed.Due to inferior survival,a subclassification within T1 stage should be considered.Future studies are mandatory to confirm our findings. | Chao-Wei Lee Ming-Chin Yu Chih-Chi Wang Wei-Chen Lee Hsin-I Tsai Feng-Che Kuan Chun-Wei Chen Yi-Chung Hsieh Hsing-Yu Chen | 2021 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2021,13,5: | 2 |
