1Effect of preoperative biliary drainage on outcome of classical pancreaticoduodenectomy显示文摘AIM: To investigate the role of preoperative biliary drainage (PBD) in the outcome of classical pancreaticodu odenectomy. METHODS: A 10-year retrospective data analysis was performed on patients (n = 48) undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy from March 1994 to March 2004 in department of surgery at SMS medical college, Jaipur, India. Demographic variables, details of preoperative stenting, operative procedure and post operative complications were noted. RESULTS: Preoperative biliary drainage was performed in 21 patients (43.5%). The incidence of septic complications was significantly higher in patients with biliary stent placement (P < 0.05, 0 vs 4). This group of patients also had a significantly higher minor biliary leak rate. Mortality and hospital stay in each group was comparable. CONCLUSION: Within this study population the use of PBD by endoscopic stenting was associated with a high incidence of infective complications. 8Exploring the potential of artificial intelligence techniques in prediction of the removal efficiency of vortex tube silt ejector显示文摘A vortex tube silt ejector is a curative hydraulic structure used to remove sediment deposits from canals and is recognized as one of the most efficient substitutes for physically removing canal sediment.The spatially varied flow in the channel and the rotational flow behavior in the tube make the silt removal process complex.It is even harder to accurately predict the silt removal efficiency by traditional models accurately.However,artificial intelligence(AI)and machine learning approaches have emerged as robust substitutes for studying complex processes.Therefore,this research makes use of AI approaches;support vector machine(SVM),random forest(RF),random tree(RT),and multivariate adaptive regression spline(MARS)to compute the vortex tube silt ejection efficiency using the laboratory data sets.The outcomes of the artificial intelligence(AI)-based techniques also were compared with traditional models.It was found that the RT model(root mean square error,RMSE=2.165,Nash Sutcliffe efficiency,NSE=0.98)outperforms the other applied approaches which had relatively more significant result errors.The sensitivity analysis of the process depicts the extraction ratio as the key parameter in the computation of vortex tube silt ejector removal efficiency.The findings of the AI-based approaches discussed in the current study might be helpful for hydraulic engineers as well as researchers in the assessment of the removal efficiency of vortex tube silt ejectors.Sanjeev Kumar Chandra Shekhar Prasad Ojha Nand Kumar Tiwari Subodh Ranjan 2023International Journal of Sediment Research2023,38,4:0
9Hunting of hunted:an ensemble modeling approach to evaluate suitable habitats for caracals in India显示文摘Background:Large-scale hunting and various anthropogenic pressures in the recent past have pushed the Asiatic caracal(Caracal caracal schmitzi),an elusive medium-sized and locally threatened felid species towards local extinction in India.Though widely distributed historically,it has been sparsely reported from several regions of central and northern states in India till twentieth century.Later,the species distribution became confined only to the states of Rajasthan,Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh,which have had reported sightings in the twenty-first century.In order to highlight the potentially suitable habitats for Asiatic caracals in India,we targeted forth-filtering of the spatial model ensemble by creating and utilizing the validated and spatially thinned species presence information(n=69)and related ecological variables(aridity,NDVI,precipitation seasonality,temperature seasonality,terrain ruggedness),filtered with anthropological variable(nightlight).Results:Out of eight spatial prediction models,the two most parsimonious models,Random Forest(AUC 0.91)and MaxEnt(AUC 0.89)were weighted and ensembled.The ensemble model indicated several clustered habitats,covering 1207.83 km^(2)areas in Kachchh(Gujarat),Aravalli mountains(Rajasthan),Malwa plateau(Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh),and Bundelkhand region(Madhya Pradesh)as potentially suitable habitats for caracals.Output probabilities of pixels were further regressed with converted vegetation height data within selected highly potential habitats,i.e.,Ranthambore Kuno Landscape(RKL)(suitability~0.44+0.03(vegetation height)^(**),R^(2)=0.27).The regression model inferred a significant positive relation between vegetation height and habitat suitability,hence the lowest ordinal class out of three classes of converted vegetation height was masked out from the RKL,which yielded in an area of 567 km^(2) as potentially highly suitable habitats for caracals,which can be further proposed as survey areas and conservation priority areas for caracals.Conclusion:The study charts out the small pockets of landscape in and around dryland protected areas,suitable for caracal in the Indian context,which need attention for landscape conservation.Ashish Kumar Jangid Chandra Prakash Singh Jai Singh Parihar Jasbir Singh Chauhan Rajnish Kumar Singh Prakash Kumar Verma Amritanshu Singh Shantanu Sharma Shekhar Kolipaka 2022Ecological Processes2022,11,1:0
