| 1 | Magnetic properties of high-road-side pine tree leaves in Beijing and their environ-mental significance显示文摘This is a report on magnetic properties of highroad-side tree (Pinus pumila Regel) leaves collected along an expressway linking Beijing City and the Capital International Airport and further focus on their environmental contributions. A series of rock magnetic experiments show that the primary mag-netic mineral of leaf samples was identified to be magnetite,in the pseudo-single domain (PSD) grain size range 0.2―5.0 μm. On the other hand,magnet-ite concentration and grain size in leaves are ascer-tained to decrease with increasing of sampling dis-tance to highroad asphalt surface,suggesting that high magnetic response to traffic pollution is localized within a distance of some two meters away from highroad asphalt surface. Although magnetic suscep-tibility is ordinarily regarded as a simple,rapid and low-cost method for monitoring traffic pollution,saturation isothermal remanent magnetization (SIRM) can be treated as a valid proxy for monitoring air par-ticulate matter (PM) when samples are magnetically weak. | 2 | Erasure Coding for Cloud Storage Systems: A Survey显示文摘In the current era of cloud computing, data stored in the cloud is being generated at a tremendous speed, and thus the cloud storage system has become one of the key components in cloud computing. By storing a substantial amount of data in commodity disks inside the data center that hosts the cloud, the cloud storage system must consider one question very carefully: how do we store data reliably with a high efficiency in terms of both storage overhead and data integrity? Though it is easy to store replicated data to tolerate a certain amount of data losses, it suffers from a very low storage efficiency. Conventional erasure coding techniques, such as Reed-Solomon codes, are able to achieve a much lower storage cost with the same level of tolerance against disk failures. However, it incurs much higher repair costs, not to mention an even higher access latency. In this sense, designing new coding techniques for cloud storage systems has gained a significant amount of attention in both academia and the industry. In this paper, we examine the existing results of coding techniques for cloud storage systems. Specifically, we present these coding techniques into two categories: regenerating codes and locally repairable codes. These two kinds of codes meet the requirements of cloud storage along two different axes: optimizing bandwidth and I/O overhead. We present an overview of recent advances in these two categories of coding techniques. | 3 | Magnetostratigraphic study of Cretaceous depositional succession in the northern Kuqa Depression,Northwest China显示文摘There are some quite different disputes about chronostratigraphic division of the Cretaceous in the Kuqa Depression, northern margin of the Tarim Basin. We then carried on a magnetostratigraphic study on Cretaceous succession in the Kuqa River and Kezilenuer Channel profiles. Detailed paleomag- netic analyses on 446 specimens from 265 sites permit a construction of a preliminary magnetic polar- ity sequence for the Cretaceous strata. Together with paleobiologic constraints from calcareous nannofos- sils, magnetostratigraphic results show that the Bash- enjiqike Formation was probably deposited during the late Campanian to Maastrichtian stages of the Late Cretaceous, ranging from about 79.1 to 65.6 Ma. On the other hand, magnetozones identified from the Yageliemu, Shushanhe, and Baxigai formations may principally correlate with chrons M18r to M3 of the Geomagnetic Polarity Time Scale (GPTS). This cor- relation suggests that these three formations were very likely to be formed during the early-middle stage of the Early Cretaceous between the Berriasian to the early Berremian stages (141.9―124.1Ma). | 4 | Suppression of vortex-induced vibration of a circular cylinder by Lorentz force显示文摘The electro-magnetic control of vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of a circular cylinder is investigated numerically in the exponential-polar coordinates attached on the moving cylinder for Re=150 in the paper. Compared with the fixed cylinder, the vibration of cylinder leads to the shift of stagnation point, the shear layer strength and the inertial force, which affects the hydrodynamic forces on the cylinder. The effects of the instantaneous wake geometries and the corresponding cylinder motion on the hydrodynamic forces for one entire period of vortex shed are discussed in the drag-lift phase diagram. The Lorentz force for controlling the vibration cylinder is classified into the field Lorentz force and the wall Lorentz force. | 5 | Influences of Lorentz force on the hydrofoil lift显示文摘In this paper, Lorentz forces are proved to beable to suppress separation in flows over hydrofoils. Furthermore,a differential equation of pressure distributions on thehydrofoil surface is derived, from which it is found that B VF(boundary vortex flux) σ is a suitable criterion for describingthe lift coefficient variations during the electromagneticcontrol process. According to our numerical results, the periodicvariations of lift for a hydrofoil at an attack angle of17° are analyzed and its inherent mechanism is discussed indetail with the concept of B VF. | 6 | Experimental Research on the Mechanism of Lift Amplification and Vibration Suppression of Lorentz Force显示文摘The Lorentz force generated by electromagnetic field on the surface of the cylinder in the electrolyte solution may modify the structure of the flow boundary layer effectively. The transient control process of Lorentz force is investigated experimentally for lift amplification and vibration suppression. The experiments are conducted in a rotating annular tank filled with a low-conducting electrolyte. A cylinder with an electro-magnetic actuator is placed into the electrolyte. The lift force of cylinder is measured using the strain gages attached to a fixed beam, and the flow fields are visualized by the dye markers. The results show that the upper vortex on the cylinder is suppressed, and the wake becomes a line and leans to the lower side under the action of upside Lorentz force while the lower vortex on the cylinder is suppressed and limited in a small region. Therefore, the value of lift increases with the variation of flow field.
