| 1 | Age-dependent branching processes in random environments显示文摘We consider an age-dependent branching process in random environments. The environments are represented by a stationary and ergodic sequence ξ = (ξ0,ξ1,...) of random variables. Given an environment ξ, the process is a non-homogenous Galton-Watson process, whose particles in n-th generation have a life length distribution G(ξn) on R+, and reproduce independently new particles according to a probability law p(ξn) on N. Let Z(t) be the number of particles alive at time t. We first find a characterization of the conditional probability generating function of Z(t) (given the environment ξ) via a functional equation, and obtain a criterion for almost certain extinction of the process by comparing it with an embedded Galton-Watson process. | 3 | Clinical study of paclitaxel plus cisplatin in the treatment of recurrent cervical cancer显示文摘Objective: To observe the efficacy and toxicities of paclitaxel plus cisplatin in the treatment of recurrent cervical cancer. Methods: Twenty-three patients with a diagnosis of recurrent cervical cancer were eligible. Three-weekly chemo- therapy regimen consisted of paclitaxel 135–150 mg/m2 infusion for 3 h on day 1, cisplatin 25 mg/m2 infusion on day 1 to 3. All patients received at least two cycles treatment. Results: The response rates was 47.8%, including CR 2 cases (8.7%), PR 9 cases (39.1%). The major toxicity included neutropenia, nausea vomiting, arthralgia, myalgia and alopecia. | 4 | Integrated Chinese-western therapy versus western therapy alone on survival rate in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer at middlelate stage显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of integrated Chinese-Western therapy versus Western therapy alone on the survival rate of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) at middle-late stage and to evaluate prognostic factors. METHODS: We selected 98 inpatients with middle-late stage NSCLC diagnosed from March 2009 to March 2011 and randomly divided them into two groups, with 49 cases in each group, and the clinical data were analyzed retrospectively.The control group was treated by the combined methods of Western Medicine, including chemotherapy, supportive treatment and symptomatic treatment. The observation group was treated by injection and prescriptions of Chinese medicine based on Traditional Chinese Medicine syndrome differentiation and by the same combined methods of western treatment used in the control group. After treatment, the survival rates of the patients were compared by the stage of cancer and evaluation of 24 prognostic factors analyzed by a Cox regressionmodel, and the clinical data were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: The survival rates of all patients were over 90.0% at 1 and 3 months after treatment with no significant differences between the two groups (P>0.05); In the observation group the survival rates at 6 months and 1 year were 93.4% and 42.8%, respectively, being superior to 85.6% and 18.3% in the control group (P<0.05). The median survival time in the observation group was superior to the control group (P<0.05); The effects of 24 prognostic factors were significantly better in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). | 5 | Attenuated phenotypes and analysis of a herpes simplex virus 1strain with partial deletion of the UL7, UL41 and LAT genes显示文摘We previously constructed a herpes simplex virus 1(HSV-1) UL7 mutant virus(M1) and showed that a partial deletion mutation of the UL7 gene led to a lower proliferative rate and an attenuated phenotype. Using the M1 mutant, we further modified the UL41 gene, which encodes another tegument protein, and the latency-associated transcript(LAT) gene. Observations of the resulting mutants with modified UL7 and UL41(M2) or UL7, UL41 and LAT(M3) genes indicated attenuated phenotypes, with lower proliferative ratios in various cells, non-lethal infections in mice and lower viral loads in nervous tissues compared with the wild-type strain. Furthermore, no LAT stable intron could be detected in the trigeminal ganglion of M3-infected animals. The results obtained with the three HSV-1 mutants indicate that the M3 mutant is an attenuated strain with low pathogenicity during both acute and latent infections. | 8 | Fabrication and properties of ultraviolet photo-detectors based on SiC nanowires显示文摘A new type of ultraviolet photo-detectors (UVPDs) based on a bundle of highly aligned SiC nanowires was fabricated and the photo-electric properties of the UVPDs including I-V characteristics and time response were studied in this work. SiC nanowires were prepared by pyrolysis of a polymer precursor with ferrocene as the catalyst by a CVD route. The diameters of SiC nanowires varied from 100 to 200 nm while they were some centimeters long and the SiC nanowires were with zinc blended cubic form ( -SiC) tested by X-ray diffraction. A bundle of nanowires was fixed onto two legs' base by conductive silver paste to form the UVPDs. The electrical measurement of the device showed a significant increase of current when the device was exposed to 254 nm UV light, and the rising time of the device is very short, but the falling time is relatively long.
