| 1 | Heritability of growth traits in the Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer)显示文摘Growth is an economically important trait in aquaculture.To improve growth trait of the Asian seabass(Lates calcarifer)we have been carrying out,since 2004,a selective breeding program.This study focuses on growth traits in the F2 fish generation,comprised of offspring from 23 mass crosses from 383 F_(1) brooders.Using genotyping analysis for 10 microsatellites from both brood stock and progeny we have reconstructed the pedigree of each mass-cross.For F_(2) generation at 90 days post hatch(dph),we have recorded body weight(BW)for 12,117 individuals and total length(TL),standard length(SL)and condition factor(K_(tl) and K_(sl))for 3530 individuals;and all five traits for 2136 individuals at 270 dph.At 90 dph the average BW was 46.88±20.95 g.Combining pedigree information,recorded growth traits and Restricted Maximum Likelihood method,we have estimated that the narrow sense heritability(h^(2))in F_(1) fish for BW,TL,SL,K_(tl) and K_(sl) was at,90 dph,0.12±0.03,0.11±0.03,0.10±0.03,0.20±0.04 and 0.11±0.03,respectively and,at 270 dph,0.34±0.07,0.32±0.07,0.30±0.06,0.13±0.04 and 0.11±0.04,respectively.At 90 dph the realised heritability for BW was 0.13.Comparing with F_(1) generation,the growth performance of F_(2) fish was increased by 14.4%.Heritability of growth traits will be useful for future genetic improvement programmes of the Asian seabass. | Baoqing Ye Ziyi Wan Le Wang Hongyan Pang Yanfei Wen Huiming Liu Bing Liang Huan Sein Lim Junhui Jiang Genhua Yue | 2017 | Aquaculture and Fisheries2017,2,3: | 4 |

| 3 | A novel strategy to derive iPS cells from porcine fibroblasts显示文摘Induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell technology demonstrates that somatic cells can be reprogrammed to a pluripotent state by over-expressing four reprogramming factors.This technology has created an interest in deriving iPS cells from domesticated animals such as pigs,sheep and cattle.Moloney murine leukemia retrovirus vectors have been widely used to generate and study mouse iPS cells.However,this retrovirus system infects only mouse and rat cells,which limits its use in establishing iPS cells from other mammals.In our study,we demonstrate a novel retrovirus strategy to efficiently generate porcine iPS cells from embryonic fibroblasts.We transfected four human reprogramming factors (Oct4,Sox2,Klf4 and Myc) into fibroblasts in one step by using a VSV-G envelope-coated pantropic retrovirus that was easily packaged by GP2-293 cells.We established six embryonic stem (ES)-like cell lines in human ES cell medium supplemented with bFGF.Colonies showed a similar morphology to human ES cells with a high nuclei-cytoplasm ratio and phase-bright flat colonies.Porcine iPS cells could form embryoid bodies in vitro and differentiate into the three germ layers in vivo by forming teratomas in immunodeficient mice. | RUAN WeiMin HAN JianYong LI Pin CAO SuYing AN Yang LIM Bing LI Ning | 2011 | Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,6: | 2 |

| 8 | Rapid Repair of Earthquake Damaged RC Interior Beam-wide Column Joints and Beam-wall Joints Using FRP Composites显示文摘This paper studies the seismic performance of FRP-strengthened RC interior non-seismically detailed beam-wide columns and beam-wall joints after limited seismic damage.Four eccentric and concentric beam-wide column joints and two beam-wall joints,initially damaged in a previous study,were repaired and tested under constant axial loads(0.1fc′Ag and 0.35fc′Ag) and lateral cyclic loading.The rapid repair technique developed,aimed to restore the original strength and to provide minimum drift capacity.The repair schemes were characterized by the use of:(a) epoxy injections and polymer modified cementitious mortar to seal the cracks and replace spalled concrete;and(b) glass(GFRP) and carbon(CFRP) sheets to enhance the joint performance.The FRP sheets were effectively prevented against possible debonding through the use of fiber anchors.Comparison between responses of specimens before and after repair clearly indicated reasonable restoration in strength,drift capacity,stiffness and cumulative energy dissipation capacity.All specimens failed with delamination of FRP sheets at beam-column joint interfaces.The rapid repair technique developed in this study is recommended for mass upgrading or repair of earthquake damaged beam-column joints. | LI Bing LIM Chee Leong | 2009 | 四川大学学报(工程科学版)2009,41,3: | 1 |

| 13 | Comparison of direct and indirect determinations of dynamic ventilation rate in a modern dairy free stall barn显示文摘Reliable estimation of the ventilation rate(VR)in intensive livestock buildings is necessary for studying building environmental control strategies and predicting indoor air quality and air emissions.As direct air exchange measurements are time-consuming and expensive,it is environmentally inefficient to measure livestock building VR continuously in practice.Hence,indirect VR estimation methods have been widely used in modelling environmental control and air emissions,and also to measure airflow in the field.The accuracy of indirect measurement methods needs to be evaluated by comparing with direct measurements.In this study,the direct and indirect methods of determining hourly and daily mean VRs were applied to a mechanically-ventilated dairy free stall barn monitored by the 24-month National Air Emissions Monitoring Study.The direct method was used to continuously monitor fan rotational speeds,and differential static pressures,coupled with periodic in-situ fan performance assessments,to calculate the VR.The indirect method consisted of estimating the VR using CO2 concentration measurements and the CO2 mass balance method.The average daily and hourly means(mean±SD)of directly measured barn ventilation rates for two years were(246±73)m3/s and(245±77)m3/s,respectively.The average daily and hourly means(mean±SD)of barn ventilation rates estimated by the CO2 mass balance method were(287±93.4)m3/s and(287±118)m3/s,respectively.Correlation analyses showed a strong correlation between the indirect CO2 mass balance method and direct measurement methods(r=0.93 for daily means and r=0.85 for hourly means). | Bing Zou Albert J.Heber Zhengxiang Shi Songhuai Du Yaomin Jin Teng Teeh Lim | 2020 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2020,13,6: | 0 |
