3Gravitational wave astrophysics, data analysis and multimessenger astronomy显示文摘This paper reviews gravitational wave sources and their detection. One of the most exciting potential sources of gravitational waves are coalescing binary black hole systems. They can occur on all mass scales and be formed in numerous ways, many of which are not understood. They are generally invisible in electromagnetic waves, and they provide opportunities for deep investigation of Einstein's general theory of relativity. Sect. 1 of this paper considers ways that binary black holes can be created in the universe, and includes the prediction that binary black hole coalescence events are likely to be the first gravitational wave sources to be detected. The next parts of this paper address the detection of chirp waveforms from coalescence events in noisy data.Such analysis is computationally intensive. Sect. 2 reviews a new and powerful method of signal detection based on the GPUimplemented summed parallel infinite impulse response filters. Such filters are intrinsically real time alorithms, that can be used to rapidly detect and localise signals. Sect. 3 of the paper reviews the use of GPU processors for rapid searching for gravitational wave bursts that can arise from black hole births and coalescences. In sect. 4 the use of GPU processors to enable fast efficient statistical significance testing of gravitational wave event candidates is reviewed. 4Downregulation of KCTD12 contributes to melanoma stemness by modulating CD271显示文摘Objective: Cancer metastasis remains the primary cause of cancer-related death worldwide.In a previous study, we found that levels of BTB/POZ domain-containing protein KCTD12 are lower in metastatic melanoma cells than in parental melanoma cells.The purpose of this study was to identify the roles of KCTD12 in cancer metastasis.Methods: The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA) datasets were used to evaluate the relationship between KCTD12 and skin cutaneous melanoma(SKCM) prognosis.The effects of endogenous KCTD12 on biological behaviors were examined using the MTT assay.The impacts of KCTD12 on melanoma stemness were explored using spheroid formation assay.KCTD12 knockout A375 cells were generated to confirm the inhibitory effect of KCTD12 on CD271, and a mouse metastatic model was used to determine the impact of KCTD12 on melanoma metastasis in vivo.Results: KCTD12 levels were lower in lung metastatic cells than in paired parental melanoma cells, and low KCTD12 expression indicated a poor prognosis in SKCM.Cancer metastasis-related capacities were higher in lung metastatic cells than in parental melanoma cells.Moreover, KCTD12 knockdown enhanced tumor growth and metastasis both in vitro and in vivo.Mechanistically, the interaction between KCTD12 and CD271 might be responsible for the stemness transformation after KCTD12 knockdown.Conclusions: This study identifies for the first time the role of the interaction between KCTD12 and CD271 in inducing melanoma cell stemness transformation.Moreover, KCTD12 repression enhances melanoma cell growth, adhesion, migration and invasion.Weiyu Shen Yumei Li Bifei Li Liping Zheng Xiaodong Xie Jingqing Le Yusheng Lu Tao Li Fan Chen Lee Jia 2019Cancer Biology & Medicine2019,16,3:4
5Univector field method-based multi-agent navigation for pursuit problem in obstacle environments显示文摘The pursuit problem is a well-known problem in computer science. In this problem, a group of predator agents attempt to capture a prey agent in an environment with various obstacle types, partial observation, and an infinite grid-world. Predator agents are applied algorithms that use the univector field method to reach the prey agent, strategies for avoiding obstacles and strategies for cooperation between predator agents. Obstacle avoidance strategies are generalized and presented through strategies called hitting and following boundary(HFB); trapped and following shortest path(TFSP); and predicted and following shortest path(PFSP). In terms of cooperation, cooperation strategies are employed to more quickly reach and capture the prey agent. 6Prediction and assessment of demand response potential with coupon incentives in highly renewable power systems显示文摘Demand Response(DR)provides both operational and financial benefits to a variety of stakeholders in the power system.For example,in the deregulated market operated by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas(ERCOT),load serving entities(LSEs)usually purchase electricity from the wholesale market(either in day-ahead or real-time market)and sign fixed retail price contracts with their end-consumers.Therefore,incentivizing end-consumers’load shift from peak to off-peak hours could benefit the LSE in terms of reducing its purchase of electricity under high prices from the real-time market.As the first-of-its-kind implementation of Coupon Incentive-based Demand Response(CIDR),the EnergyCoupon project provides end-consumers with dynamic time-of-use DR event announcements,individualized load reduction targets with EnergyCoupons as the incentive for meeting these targets,as well as periodic lotteries using these coupons as lottery tickets for winning dollar-value gifts.A number of methodologies are developed for this special type of DR program including price/baseline prediction,individualized target setting and a lottery mechanism.This paper summarizes the methodologies,design,critical findings,as well as the potential generalization of such an experiment.Comparison of the EnergyCoupon with a conventional Time-of-Use(TOU)price-based DR program is also conducted.Experimental results in the year 2017 show that by combining dynamic coupon offers with periodic lotteries,the effective cost for demand response providers in EnergyCoupon can be substantially reduced,while achieving a similar level of demand reduction as conventional DR programs.Hao Ming Bainan Xia Ki-Yeob Lee Adekunle Adepoju Srinivas Shakkottai Le Xie 2020Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems2020,5,1:3
7A fully automated framework for helicopter rotor blades design and analysis including aerodynamics,structure, and manufacturing显示文摘This study describes an integrated framework in which basic aerospace engineering aspects(performance, aerodynamics, and structure) and practical aspects(configuration visualization and manufacturing) are coupled and considered in one fully automated design optimization of rotor blades. A number of codes are developed to robustly perform estimation of helicopter configuration from sizing, performance analysis, trim analysis, to rotor blades configuration representation. These codes are then integrated with a two-dimensional airfoil analysis tool to fully design rotor blades configuration including rotor planform and airfoil shape for optimal aerodynamics in both hover and forward flights. A modular structure design methodology is developed for realistic composite rotor blades with a sophisticated cross-sectional geometry. A D-spar cross-sectional structure is chosen as a baseline. The framework is able to analyze all realistic inner configurations including thicknesses of D-spar, skin, web, number and ply angles of layers of each composite part,and materials. A number of codes and commercial software(ANSYS, Gridgen, VABS, Pre VABS,etc.) are implemented to automate the structural analysis from aerodynamic data processing to sectional properties and stress analysis. An integrated model for manufacturing cost estimation ofcomposite rotor blades developed at the Aerodynamic Analysis and Design Laboratory(AADL),Aerospace Information Engineering Department, Konkuk University is integrated into the framework to provide a rapid and dynamic feedback to configuration design. The integration of three modules has constructed a framework where the size of a helicopter, aerodynamic performance analysis, structure analysis, and manufacturing cost estimation could be quickly investigated. 9MEMS inductor fabrication and emerging applications in power electronics and neurotechnologies显示文摘MEMS inductors are used in a wide range of applications in micro-and nanotechnology,including RF MEMS,sensors,power electronics,and Bio-MEMS.Fabrication technologies set the boundary conditions for inductor design and their electrical and mechanical performance.This review provides a comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art MEMS technologies for inductor fabrication,presents recent advances in 3D additive fabrication technologies,and discusses the challenges and opportunities of MEMS inductors for two emerging applications,namely,integrated power electronics and neurotechnologies.Among the four top-down MEMS fabrication approaches,3D surface micromachining and through-substrate-via(TSV)fabrication technology have been intensively studied to fabricate 3D inductors such as solenoid and toroid in-substrate TSV inductors.While 3D inductors are preferred for their high-quality factor,high power density,and low parasitic capacitance,in-substrate TSV inductors offer an additional unique advantage for 3D system integration and efficient thermal dissipation.These features make in-substrate TSV inductors promising to achieve the ultimate goal of monolithically integrated power converters.From another perspective,3D bottom-up additive techniques such as ice lithography have great potential for fabricating inductors with geometries and specifications that are very challenging to achieve with established MEMS technologies.Finally,we discuss inspiring and emerging research opportunities for MEMS inductors.Hoa Thanh Le Rubaiyet I.Haque Ziwei Ouyang Seung Woo Lee Shelley I.Fried Ding Zhao Min Qiu Anpan Han 2021Microsystems & Nanoengineering2021,7,4:2
