2Human carboxylesterases:a comprehensive review显示文摘Mammalian carboxylesterases(CEs) are key enzymes from the serine hydrolase superfamily.In the human body, two predominant carboxylesterases(CES1 and CES2) have been identified and extensively studied over the past decade. These two enzymes play crucial roles in the metabolism of a wide variety of endogenous esters, ester-containing drugs and environmental toxicants. The key roles of CES in both human health and xenobiotic metabolism arouse great interest in the discovery of potent CES modulators to regulate endobiotic metabolism or to improve the efficacy of ester drugs. This review covers the structural and catalytic features of CES, tissue distributions, biological functions, genetic polymorphisms, substrate specificities and inhibitor properties of CES1 and CES2, as well as the significance and recent progress on the discovery of CES modulators. The information presented here will help pharmacologists explore the relevance of CES to human diseases or to assign the contribution of certain CES in xenobiotic metabolism. 5Prospective study of probiotic supplementation results in immune stimulation and improvement of upper respiratory infection rate显示文摘The human gut microbiota is an important environmental factor for human health with evolutionarily conserved roles in immunity,metabolism,development,and behavior of the host.Probiotic organisms are claimed to offer several functional properties including stimulation of immune system.The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of a probiotic supplementation on adult volunteers who have contracted the common cold four or more times in the past year.This study is a single center,doubleblind,randomized,controlled,prospective trial.Subjects received a probiotic drink containing Lactobacillus paracasei(at least 3×10^7 colony forming units(CFU)ml^-1),Lactobacillus casei 431®(at least 3×10^7 CFU ml1)and Lactobacillus fermentium PCC®(at least 3×10^6 CFU ml^-1)or an identical placebo without probiotics for a 12-week study period.The consumption of probiotics significantly reduced the incidence of upper respiratory infection(p<0.023)and flu-like symptoms with an oral temperature higher than 38℃(p<0.034)as compared to the placebo group.Subjects that consumed probiotics demonstrated a significantly higher level of IFN-g in the serum(p<0.001)and sIgA in the gut(p<0.010)as compared to the placebo group and a significant higher level of serum IFN-g(p<0.001)and gut sIgA(p<0.001)as compared to their baseline test results.In contrast,there were no significant differences in the serum IL-4,IL-10,IgA,IgG or IgM between the probiotics and the placebo groups.Results of this study demonstrated that probiotics were safe and effective for fighting the common cold and influenza-like respiratory infections by boosting the immune system.Hong Zhang Chiajung Yeh Zonglian Jin Liwei Ding Bryan Y.Liu Li Zhang H.Kathleen Dannelly 2018Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2018,3,2:5
6Formation Mechanism and Numerical Model of Quartz in Fine-Grained Organic-Rich Shales: A Case Study of Wufeng and Longmaxi Formations in Western Hubei Province, South China显示文摘The difference in quartz types in shales not only affects the porosity and permeability of the rocks,but also reflects the difference in the sedimentary environments.We established the formation mechanism and numerical model of quartz in shales of Wufeng and Longmaxi formations in the Wangjiawan Section,South China,based on thin-section studies using SEM(scanning electron microscope),SEM-CL(cathodoluminescence),XRD(X-ray diffraction)and geochemical analyses.There are two types of quartz in the shales:detrital quartz and authigenic quartz.Detrital quartz is mostly silt-size,typically ranging from 10 to 60μm in size and subangular to angular monocrystal in shape,and brighter than authigenic quartz by CL intensity;authigenic quartz is present in two phases in shape:grain overgrowths and crystallite grains.Overgrowth surfaces are subhedral.Crystallite grains are typically less than 10μm in size,euhedral or subhedral monocrystal in shape.Authigenic quartz can be subdivided into biogenic quartz and clay mineral transformed quartz according to the source of silicon.In the numerical model,the content of detrital quartz is relatively consistent(20%);the content of biogenic quartz ranges from 40%to 70%,with a sharp fall(0–30%)in the Guanyinqiao mudstone.During the Katian,a lower anoxic and dense water column make the dissolution of biogenic silica well preserved.Biogenic quartz is the major contributor to the sediment.During the early Hirnantian interval,due to the drop of sea level and the oxygenation of seafloor,the sediment is mainly composed of clay transformed quartz and detrital quartz.During the latest Hirnatian and Rhuddanian,rapid sea level rise and anoxic ocean enhance the preservation of the biogenic silica,thereby biogenic quartz re-emerges as the major contributors to the sediment.Authigenic crystallite grains and grain overgrowths have filled in primary pore space and have decreased the interparticle porosity,however,as a rigid framework,they can suppress compaction and maintain the internal pore structure.The formation of authigenic quartz results in the increase of total quartz,which fortifies the brittleness of rocks and is beneficial to the development of shale gas.Bao Zhang Detian Yan Hassan Jasmine Drawarh Xiangrong Yang Jin He Liwei Zhang 2020Journal of Earth Science2020,31,2:4
7Characteristics on microstructure and mechanical performances of 6111Al influenced by Ce-containing precipitates显示文摘In this work,the effects of Ce addition(0,0.1 wt%,0.3 wt%,0.5 wt%and 0.7 wt%)on the evolution of microstructure and mechanical properties of 6111 Al alloy and strengthening mechanism of 6111 Al-Ce alloy were systematically investigated by a polarizing microscope,a scanning electronic microscope,an energy dispersive spectroscope and a high-resolution transmission electron microscope.The results indicate that with 0.3 wt%Ce addition,theα-Al grains show the equiaxed crystal morphology with the average size decreasing from 137 to 57μm and numerous small AlCeSi phases with lump-like or platelike morphology are distributed closely along the grain boundary.The peak yield strength,ultimate tensile strength and elongation of 6111 Al-Ce alloy reach to 279 MPa,316 MPa and 12.1%,respectively,which is attributed to the grain refinement strengthening and the formation of nanosized Al11Ce3 precipitates.Eventually,this investigation gives us instructive suggestion to prepare the new kind of aluminum alloy with high strength and high ductility.Xu Gao Yutao Zhao Xizhou Kai Wei Qian Liwei Jin Chuang Guan Peng Sheng 2022Journal of Rare Earths2022,40,1:3
8Synthesis,characterization and cell imaging properties of rare earth compounds based on hydroxamate ligand显示文摘Six binuclear rare earth compounds were synthesized through the ligand of 4-Bromo-N-hydroxy-Nmethyl-benzamide(sH_2 bha). Compounds 1-3 are isomorphous, and compound 1 is crystallized in the monoclinic system with the P2_1/c space group. Compounds 4 and 5 are isomorphous, and compound 4 is crystallized in the triclinic system with the P-1 space group. Compound 6 is crystallized in the triclinic system with the P-1 space group. The compounds were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) and IR spectroscopy. The fluorescence spectrum in the visible area shows characteristic peaks of Eu, Tb, and Dy compounds. The efficiency of Eu compound on the viability of PC3 cells was assessed using CCK8 assays. From the CCK8 results, ionic concentration may have a great effect on PC3 cells' proliferation. Eu compound shows red fluorescence in the cytoplasm of PC3 cell. 9A polyimide cathode with superior stability and rate capability for lithium-ion batteries显示文摘Organic-based electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are promising due to their high theoretical capacity,structure versatility and environmental benignity.However,the poor intrinsic electric conductivity of most polymers results in slow reaction kinetics and hinders their application as electrode materials for LIBs.A binder-free self-supporting organic electrode with excellent redox kinetics is herein demonstrated via in situ polymerization of a uniform thin polyimide (PI) layer on a porous and highly conductive carbonized nanofiber (CNF) framework.The PI active material in the porous PI@CNF film has large physical contact area with both the CNF and the electrolyte thus obtains superior electronic and ionic conduction.As a result,the PI@CNF cathode exhibits a discharge capacity of 170 mAh·g^-1 at 1 C (175 mA·g^-1),remarkable rate-performance (70.5% of 0.5 C capacity can be obtained at a 100 C discharge rate),and superior cycling stability with 81.3% capacity retention after 1,000 cycles at 1 C.Last but not least,a four-electron transfer redox process of the PI polymer was realized for the first time thanks to the excellent redox kinetics of the PI@CNF electrode,showing a discharge capacity exceeding 300 mAh·g^-1 at a current of 175 mA·g^-1.Jianghui Zhao Tuo Kang Yanli Chu Peng Chen Feng Jin Yanbin Shen Liwei Chen 2019Nano Research2019,12,6:3
10Optimization of temporal gate by two-color chirped lasers for the generation of isolated attosecond pulse in soft X rays显示文摘We propose a simple and efficient method to optimize two-color chirped laser pulses by forming a'temporal gate'for the generation of isolated attosecond pulses(IAPs)in soft X rays.We show that the generation process for higher and cutoff harmonics can be effectively limited within the temporal gate,and the harmonic emission interval can be further reduced with the help of phase-matching by only selecting the contribution from shorttrajectory electrons.This two-color gating mechanism is verified by increasing the pulse duration,raising the gas pressure,and extending the target cutoff.Compared to the five-color waveform in Phys.Rev.Lett.102,063003(2009),our waveform can be used to generate the IAP in the long-duration laser pulse while the cutoff energy is higher without the reduction of harmonic yields.Our work provides an alternative temporal gating scheme for the generation of IAPs by simultaneously improving the harmonic conversion efficiency,thus making the attosecond soft X rays an intense and highly time-resolved tabletop light source for future applications.LIWEI HE GUANGLU YUAN KAN WANG WEIJIE HUA CHAO YU CHENG JIN 2019Photonics Research2019,7,12:3
11Cloning of the kininogen gene from Lampetra japonica provides insights into its phylogeny in vertebrates显示文摘Kininogens, the precursors of bradykinins, ubiquitously exist in vertebrates, including mammals, birds, amphibians, and fishes.To elucidate the phylogeny of kininogen genes in early vertebrates, we cloned the full-length cDNA of kininogen gene from the liver of Lampetra japonica.The open reading frame of this sequence contained 546 bp and encoded 181 amino acids, including a cystatin domain without the canonical binding site for cysteine proteinases and a bradykinin domain.Our results suggested that in lampreys and most of other vertebrates, there might be only one kininogen gene, which was fused by certain sequences during vertebrate evolution and encoded proteins with more functions;however, another special kininogen gene, only encoding the bradykinin domain with multiple copies in some species, arose only in amphibians for adapting themselves to the unique environment.Using reverse transcription PCR, kininogen mRNA was also detected in lamprey gut, kidney, and leukocyte, but absent in lamprey buccal gland.Our findings may provide insights into the phylogeny of kininogen genes as well as other gene families in vertebrates.Liwei Zhou Xin Liu Ping Jin Qingwei Li 2009Journal of Genetics and Genomics2009,36,2:3

15Comparison on Thermal Conductivity and Permeability of Granular and Consolidated Activated Carbon for Refrigeration显示文摘This paper focuses on the development of three types of activated carbon (AC) adsorbents, i.e. granular AC, consolidated AC with chemical binder, and consolidated AC with expanded natural graphite (ENG). Their thermal conductivity was investigated with the steady-state heat source method and the permeability was tested with nitrogen as the gas source. Results show that the thermal conductivity of granular AC with different sizes al-most maintains a constant at 0.36 W·(m·K)-1, while the value modestly increases to 0.40 W·(m·K)-1 for the con-solidated AC with chemical binder. The consolidated AC with ENG at the density of 600 kg·m-3 shows the best heat transfer performance and their thermal conductivity vary from 2.08 W·(m·K)-1 to 2.61 W·(m·K)-1 according to its fraction of AC. However, the granular AC and consolidated AC with chemical binder show the better permeability performance than consolidated AC with ENG binder whose permeability changes from 6.98×10-13 m2 to 5.16×10-11 m2 and the maximum occurs when the content of AC reaches 71.4% (by mass). 16Flat gain over arbitrary orbital angular momentum modes in Brillouin amplification显示文摘Controlled obtaining of orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes of light at high power over arbitrary orders has important implications for fiiture classical and quantum systems. Appreciable optical amplification has recently been observed for low-order or specific-order OAM modes. However, large amplification of high-order OAM modes still remains challenging. 17Comparison of transpiration between different aged black locust(Robinia pseudoacacia)trees on the semi-arid Loess Plateau,China显示文摘Black locust(Robinia pseudoacacia)is widely planted throughout the semi-arid Loess Plateau of China.The spatial distribution of this species at different ages is highly heterogeneous due to restoration and management practices.In this study,we aimed to compare the transpiration levels between different aged black locusts at the tree and stand scales,clarifying the physiological status of this species with different ages.Black locust trees with two representative age classes(12 and 28 years)were selected in the Yangjuangou catchment on the semi-arid Loess Plateau.Sap flux density(F_d)and environmental variables(solar radiation,air temperature,relative humidity and soil water content)were simultaneously monitored throughout the growing season of 2014.Tree transpiration(E_t)was the product of Fd and sapwood area(A_S),and stand transpiration(E_c)was calculated basing on the stand sap flux density(J_s)and stand total sapwood area(A_(ST)).Stomatal conductance(g_s)was measured in a controlled environment and hydraulic conductance was estimated using the relationship between transpiration rate and vapor pressure deficit(VPD).Our results showed that Et and Ec were higher in the 28-year-old stand than in the 12-year-old stand.The gs and hydraulic conductance of 28-year-old trees were also higher than those of 12-year-old trees,and the two parameters were thus the causes of variations in transpiration between different age classes.After rainfall,mean Fd increased by 9% in 28-year-old trees and by 5% in 12-year-old trees.This study thus suggests that stand age should be considered for estimating transpiration at the catchment and region scales in this area.These results provide ecophysiological evidences that the older black locust trees had more active physiological status than the younger ones in this area.These findings also provide basic information for the management of water resources and forests on the semi-arid Loess Plateau.JIAOLei LU Nan FU Bojie GAO Guangyao WANG Shuai JIN Tiantian ZHANG Liwei LIU Jianbo ZHANG Di 2016Journal of Arid Land2016,8,4:2
18Sensing carboxylesterase 1 in living systems by a practical and isoformspecific fluorescent probe显示文摘Carboxylesterase 1(CES1), one of the most abundant serine hydrolases in mammals, has drawn much attentions in recent years, owing to this enzyme involves in many physiological processes via hydrolysis of both endogenous esters and xenobiotic esters. Herein, to real-time monitor the activities of CES1 in various biological systems, a practical and iso form-specific fluorescent probe was developed on the basis of the substrate preference of CES1, as well as the structural and optical properties of BODIPY dyes. After screening of a panel of BODIPY ester derivatives, probe 1 displayed the best combination of specificity,sensitivity, enzymatic kinetics and applicability for monitoring CES1 activities in real samples. This probe was successfully used to detect CESl activities in several biological systems including tissue preparations,living cells, tissue slices and zebrafish. Furthermore, the biomedical applications of probe 1 for screening of CES1 inhibitors were also demonstrated using tissue preparations or living cells as enzyme sources. 20Highly stable lithium anode enabled by self-assembled monolayer of dihexadecanoalkyl phosphate显示文摘Li has been considered as the ultimate anode material for high energy density secondary Li batteries.However,its practical application has been limited due to its low Coulombic efficiency(CE)and the formation of lithium dendrites.Recently,we have developed a microspherical Li-carbon nanotube(Li-CNT)composite material passivated with octadecylphosphonic acid(OPA)self-assembled monolayer(SAM)exhibiting suppressed lithium dendrite formation and improved environmental/electrochemical stability.In this work,we demonstrated the significantly enhanced passivation effects of a SAM using dihexadecanoalkyl phosphate(DHP),a molecule that is comprised of double hydrophobic alkyl chains and forms a denser SAM on surfaces with large curvature.As a result,the DHP SAM delivers superior environmental and electrochemical stability to the OPA passivated Li-CNT material.In specific,the DHP passivated Li-CNT composite(DHP-Li-CNT)delivers a high CE of 99.25%under a 33.3%depth of discharge(DOD)at 1 C,when it is paired with a LiFePO4 cathode.The evolution of the SAM during cycling and the effects of DOD and current density on the CE of the DHP-Li-CNT anode have also been investigated.The improved SAM passivation constitutes an important step in achieving the goal of practically applicable Li anodes.Lei Zheng Feng Guo Tuo Kang Jin Yang Ya Liu Wei Gu Yanfei Zhao Hongzhen Lin Yanbin Shen Wei Lu Liwei Chen 2020Nano Research2020,13,5:1
