1Towards asynchronous federated learning for heterogeneous edge-powered internet of things显示文摘The advancement of the Internet of Things(IoT)brings new opportunities for collecting real-time data and deploying machine learning models.Nonetheless,an individual IoT device may not have adequate computing resources to train and deploy an entire learning model.At the same time,transmitting continuous real-time data to a central server with high computing resource incurs enormous communication costs and raises issues in data security and privacy.Federated learning,a distributed machine learning framework,is a promising solution to train machine learning models with resource-limited devices and edge servers.Yet,the majority of existing works assume an impractically synchronous parameter update manner with homogeneous IoT nodes under stable communication connections.In this paper,we develop an asynchronous federated learning scheme to improve training efficiency for heterogeneous IoT devices under unstable communication network.Particularly,we formulate an asynchronous federated learning model and develop a lightweight node selection algorithm to carry out learning tasks effectively.The proposed algorithm iteratively selects heterogeneous IoT nodes to participate in the global learning aggregation while considering their local computing resource and communication condition.Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our proposed asynchronous federated learning scheme outperforms the state-of-the-art schemes in various settings on independent and identically distributed(i.i.d.)and non-i.i.d.data distribution.Zheyi Chen Weixian Liao Kun Hua Chao Lu Wei Yu 2021Digital Communications and Networks2021,7,3:2

4Assessment of urinary concentration of cotinine in Chinese pregnant women exposed to environmental tobacco smoke显示文摘Environmental tobacco smoke(ETS)is a wellknown reason of many adverse health consequences in pregnant women.Exposure of ETS during pregnancy may increase the risk of some fetal diseases in pregnant women and/or birth defects in neonates.Many countries have implemented laws to control smoking and free of second hand smoke in all enclosed workplaces.In China,antismoking law was enforced in March 2010.We aimed to assess the exposure of pregnant women to cotinine after anti-smoking law was implemented in China.The urine samples were collected from 2,100 volunteers from Zhejiang Province,China and urinary concentration of cotinine was measured using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry.Cotinine was detected in 87%of the pregnant women.The GM and 95th percentile concentration inpregnant women were 4.28 and 44.00 lg/L,respectively.Similarly,the GM and 95th concentration of cotinine were significantly higher in smoking group than in non-smoking group(P\0.0001).Our results indicate that pregnant women in China are at the high risk of exposure ETS.Further attempts are required to make strategies to find out the sources of ETS exposure and prevent smoking at public places especially during pregnancy.Yajing Lei Wenhui Liu Lizheng Fang Muhammad Sajid Hamid Akash Kanwal Rehman Hua Narenmandura Weixing Shi Weixian Lu Yingchun Xu Shuqing Chen 2014Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,13:0
5Application of a ddRT-PCR to quantify seasonal influenza virus for viral isolation显示文摘Viral isolation in cell cultures has been regarded for decades as the“gold standard”for the laboratory diagnosis of influenza viral infections.Not all viral strains could be isolated from clinical samples.This study aimed to quantify the viral load in the samples before isolation to save working time and improve working efficiency.Four hundred samples from patients with influenza-like cases were confirmed pdmH1N1 positive(200 cases)and B Victoria(BV)positive(200 cases)by whole-genome sequencing and analyzed by ddPCR for viral load in samples before isolation,and isolation results were verified by hemagglutination(HA)assay and hemagglutination-inhibition(HI)tests.Probit regression analysis was used to calculate the isolation viral load limit with a 95%probability level by SPSS 19.0 software.The results showed that the isolation limit of viral load was 4.9×10^(4)(95%CI:2.5×10^(4)–9.0×10^(4))copies/mL for pdmH1N1 and 1.9×10^(4)(95%CI:7.8×103–3.6×10^(4))copies/mL for BV.The isolation rate of clinical samples is positively correlated with the viral load in clinical samples,which can be used for viral culture,providing important guidance for daily work.Yimeng Liu Jiachen Zhao Xiaomin Peng Guilan Lu Weixian Shi Zhaomin Feng Hui Xu Shujuan Cui Yang Pan Daitao Zhang Peng Yang Quanyi Wang 2022Biosafety and Health2022,4,5:0
