4Urinary donor-derived cell-free DNA as a non-invasive biomarker for BK polyomavirus-associated nephropathy显示文摘BK polyomavirus-associated nephropathy(BKPyVAN)is a common cause of allograft failure.However,differentiation between BKPyVAN and type I T cell-mediated rejection(TCMR)is challenging when simian virus 40(SV40)staining is negative,because of the similarities in histopathology.This study investigated whether donor-derived cell-free DNA(ddcfDNA)can be used to differentiate BKPyVAN.Target region capture sequencing was applied to detect the ddcfDNAs of 12 recipients with stable graft function,22 with type I TCMR,21 with proven BKPy VAN,and 5 with possible Py VAN.We found that urinary ddcfDNA levels were upregulated in recipients with graft injury,whereas plasma ddcfDNA levels were comparable for all groups.The median urinary concentrations and fractions of ddcfDNA in proven BKPyVAN recipients were significantly higher than those in type I TCMR recipients(10.4 vs.6.1 ng/mL,P<0.001 and 68.4%vs.55.3%,P=0.013,respectively).Urinary ddcfDNA fractions(not concentrations)were higher in the BKPyVAN-pure subgroup than in the BKPyVAN-rejection-like subgroup(81.30%vs.56.64%,P=0.025).With a cut-off value of 7.81 ng/m L,urinary ddcf DNA concentrations distinguished proven BKPyVAN from type I TCMR(area under the curve(AUC)=0.848,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.734 to 0.963).These findings suggest that urinary ddcf DNA is a non-invasive biomarker which can reliably differentiate BKPy VAN from type I TCMR.Jia SHEN Luying GUO Wenhua LEI Shuaihui LIU Pengpeng YAN Haitao LIU Jingyi ZHOU Qin ZHOU Feng LIU Tingya JIANG Huiping WANG Jianyong WU Jianghua CHEN Rending WANG 2021Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2021,22,11:4

10Recent advanced development of stabilizing sodium metal anodes显示文摘As the application of next-generation energy storage systems continues to expand,rechargeable secondary batteries with enhanced energy density and safety are imperative for energy iteration.Sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)have attracted extensive attention and are recognized as ideal candidates for large-scale energy storage due to the abundant sodium resources and low cost.Sodium metal anodes(SMAs)have been considered as one of the most attractive anode materials for SIBs owing to their high specific capacity(1166 mAh g^(-1)),low redox potential,and abundant natural resources.However,the uncontrollable dendrite growth and inevitable side reactions on SMA lead to the continuous deterioration of the electrochemical performance,causing serious safety concerns and limiting their practical application in the future.Therefore,the construction of stable dendrite-free SMAs is a pressing problem for advanced sodium metal batteries(SMBs).In this review,we comprehensively summarize the research progress in suppressing the formation of sodium dendrite,including artificial solid electrolyte interphase(SEI),liquid electrolyte modification,three-dimensional(3D)host materials,and solid-state electrolyte.Additionally,key aspects and prospects of future research directions for SMAs are highlighted.We hope that this timely review can provide an overall picture of sodium protection strategies and stimulate more research in the future.Liyu Zhu Yucheng Li Jingyang Zhao Jing Liu Luying Wang Jiandu Lei 2023Green Energy & Environment2023,8,5:1

12Serum levels of the novel adipokine isthmin-1 are associated with obesity in pubertal boys显示文摘Objectives To evaluate whether there is an association between the serum levels of the novel insulin-like adipokine isthmin-1(ISM1)and obesity-related phenotypes in a population of Spanish children and to investigate the plausible molecular alterations behind the alteration of the serum levels of this protein in children with obesity.Methods The study population is a sub-cohort of the PUBMEP research project,consisting of a cross-sectional population of 119 pubertal children with overweight(17 boys,19 girls),obesity(20 boys,25 girls),and normal weight(17 boys,21 girls).All subjects were classified into experimental groups according to their sex,obesity,and insulin resistance(IR)status.They were counted anthropometry,glucose and lipid metabolism,inflammation and cardiovascular biomarkers as well as isthmin-1(ISM1)serum levels.This population was intended as a discovery population to elucidate the relationship between obesity and ISM1 levels in children.Furthermore,the study population had blood whole-genome DNA methylation examined,allowing deepening into the obesity–ISM1 molecular relationship.Results Higher serum ISM1 levels were observed in boys with obesity than in normal weight(P=0.004)and overweight(P=0.007)boys.ISM1 serum levels were positively associated with body mass index(BMI)Z-score(P=0.005)and fat mass(P=0.058)and negatively associated with myeloperoxidase(MPO)(P=0.043)in boys.Although we did not find associations between ISM1 serum levels and metabolic outcomes in girls,which may indicate a putative sexual dimorphism,fat mass was positively associated in all children,including boys and girls(P=0.011).DNA methylation levels in two-enhancer-related CpG sites of ISM1(cg03304641 and cg14269097)were associated with serum levels of ISM1 in children.Conclusions ISM1 is associated with obesity in boys at the pubertal stage,elucidating how this protein might be of special relevance as a new biomarker of obesity in children.Further studies including a longitudinal design during puberty are needed.Francisco Javier Ruiz‑Ojeda Augusto Anguita‑Ruiz Maria C.Rico Rosaura Leis Gloria Bueno Luis A.Moreno Mercedes Gil‑Campos Ángel Gil Concepción M.Aguilera 2023World Journal of Pediatrics2023,19,9:1

16Scientific objectives of the Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor(HUBS) mission显示文摘The Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor(HUBS) is a proposed space-based X-ray telescope for detecting X-ray emissions from the hot gas content in our universe. With its unprecedented spatially-resolved high-resolution spectroscopy and large field of view,the HUBS mission will be uniquely qualified to measure the physical and chemical properties of the hot gas in the interstellar medium, the circumgalactic medium, the intergalactic medium, and the intracluster medium. These measurements will be valuable for two key scientific goals of HUBS, namely to unravel the AGN and stellar feedback physics that governs the formation and evolution of galaxies, and to probe the baryon budget and multi-phase states from galactic to cosmological scales. In addition to these two goals, the HUBS mission will also help us solve some problems in the fields of galaxy clusters, AGNs, difuse X-ray backgrounds, supernova remnants, and compact objects.
