| 3 | Antidiabetic Effects of Gegen Qinlian Decoction via the Gut Microbiota Are Attributable to Its Key Ingredient Berberine显示文摘Gegen Qinlian Decoction(GQD),a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)formula,has long been used for the treatment of common metabolic diseases,including type 2 diabetes mellitus.However,the main limitation of its wider application is ingredient complexity of this formula.Thus,it is critically important to identify the major active ingredients of GQD and to illustrate mechanisms underlying its action.Here,we compared the effects of GQD and berberine,a hypothetical key active pharmaceutical ingredient of GQD,on a diabetic rat model by comprehensive analyses of gut microbiota,short-chain fatty acids,proinflammatory cytokines,and ileum transcriptomics.Our results show that berberine and GQD had similar effects on lowering blood glucose levels,modulating gut microbiota,inducing ileal gene expression,as well as relieving systemic and local inflammation.As expected,both berberine and GQD treatment significantly altered the overall gut microbiota structure and enriched many butyrate-producing bacteria,including Faecalibacterium and Roseburia,thereby attenuating intestinal inflammation and lowering glucose.Levels of short-chain fatty acids in rat feces were also significantly elevated after treatment with berberine or GQD.Moreover,concentration of serum proinflammatory cytokines and expression of immune-related genes,including Nfkb1,Stat1,and Ifnrg1,in pancreatic islets were significantly reduced after treatment.Our study demonstrates that the main effects of GQD can be attributed to berberine via modulating gut microbiota.The strategy employed would facilitate further standardization and widespread application of TCM in many diseases. | Xizhan Xu Zezheng Gao Fuquan Yang Yingying Yang Liang Chen Lin Han Na Zhao Jiayue Xu Xinmiao Wang Yue Ma Lian Shu Xiaoxi Hu Na Lyu Yuanlong Pan Baoli Zhu Linhua Zhao Xiaolin Tong Jun Wang | 2020 | Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2020,18,6: | 29 |

| 7 | The TanSat mission: preliminary global observations显示文摘The Chinese global carbon dioxide monitoring satellite (Tan Sat) was launched successfully in December2016 and has completed its on-orbit tests and calibration. Tan Sat aims to measure the atmospheric column-averaged dry air mole fractions of carbon dioxide (XCO_2) with a precision of 4 ppm at the regional scale, and in addition, to derive global and regional CO2fluxes. Progress towards these objectives is reviewed and the first scientific results from Tan Sat measurements are presented. Tan Sat on-orbit tests indicate that the Atmospheric Carbon dioxide Grating Spectrometer is in normal working status and is beginning to produce L1B products. The preliminary Tan Sat XCO_2products have been retrieved by an algorithm and compared to NASA Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2) measurements during an overlapping observation period. By significantly expanding the network scale and conducting both real-time and long-term information processing, the traditional Vehicular AdHoc Networks(VANETs) are evolving to the Internet of Vehicles(Io V), which promises efficient and intelligent prospect for the future transportation system. On the other hand, vehicles are not only consuming but also generating a huge amount and enormous types of data, which is referred to as Big Data. In this article, we first investigate the relationship between Io V and big data in vehicular environment, mainly on how Io V supports the transmission, storage, computing of the big data, and how Io V benefits from big data in terms of Io V characterization,performance evaluation and big data assisted communication protocol design. We then investigate the application of Io V big data in autonomous vehicles. | 10 | Multimorbidity patterns and association with mortality in 0.5 million Chinese adults显示文摘Background:Few studies have assessed the relationship between multimorbidity patterns and mortality risk in the Chinese population.We aimed to identify multimorbidity patterns and examined the associations of multimorbidity patterns and the number of chronic diseases with the risk of mortality among Chinese middle-aged and older adults.Methods:We used data from the China Kadoorie Biobank and included 512,723 participants aged 30 to 79 years.Multimorbidity was defined as the presence of two or more of the 15 chronic diseases collected by self-report or physical examination at baseline.Multimorbidity patterns were identified using hierarchical cluster analysis.Cox regression was used to estimate the associations of multimorbidity patterns and the number of chronic diseases with all-cause and cause-specific mortality.Results:Overall,15.8%of participants had multimorbidity.The prevalence of multimorbidity increased with age and was higher in urban than rural participants.Four multimorbidity patterns were identified,including cardiometabolic multimorbidity(diabetes,coronary heart disease,stroke,and hypertension),respiratory multimorbidity(tuberculosis,asthma,and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease),gastrointestinal and hepatorenal multimorbidity(gallstone disease,chronic kidney disease,cirrhosis,peptic ulcer,and cancer),and mental and arthritis multimorbidity(neurasthenia,psychiatric disorder,and rheumatoid arthritis).During a median of 10.8 years of follow-up,49,371 deaths occurred.Compared with participants without multimorbidity,cardiometabolic multimorbidity(hazard ratios[HR]=2.20,95%confidence intervals[CI]:2.14-2.26)and respiratory multimorbidity(HR=2.13,95%CI:1.97-2.31)demonstrated relatively higher risks of mortality,followed by gastrointestinal and hepatorenal multimorbidity(HR=1.33,95%CI:1.22-1.46).The mortality risk increased by 36%(HR=1.36,95%CI:1.35-1.37)with every additional disease.Conclusion:Cardiometabolic multimorbidity and respiratory multimorbidity posed the highest threat on mortality risk and deserved particular attention in Chinese adults. | Junning Fan Zhijia Sun Canqing Yu Yu Guo Pei Pei Ling Yang Yiping Chen Huaidong Du Dianjianyi Sun Yuanjie Pang Jun Zhang Simon Gilbert Daniel Avery Junshi Chen Zhengming Chen Jun Lyu Liming Li On Behalf of the China Kadoorie Biobank Collaborative Group | 2022 | Chinese Medical Journal2022,,6: | 17 |

| 12 | Wastewater reclamation and reuse in China:Opportunities and challenges显示文摘The growing water stress both in terms of water scarcity and quality deterioration promotes the development of reclaimed water as a new water resource use. This paper reviewed wastewater reuse practices in China, and the opportunities and challenges of expanding reclaimed water use were analyzed. Rapid urbanization with the increasing of water demand and wastewater discharge provides an opportunity for wastewater reuse. The vast amount of wastewater discharge and low reclaimed water production mean that wastewater reuse still has a great potential in China. Many environmental and economic benefits and successful reclamation technologies also provide opportunities for wastewater reuse. In addition, the overall strategy in China is also encouraging for wastewater reuse. | 16 | Improving CLM4.5 Simulations of Land–Atmosphere Exchange during Freeze–Thaw Processes on the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Soil is heterogeneous and has different thermal and hydraulic properties, causing varied behavior in heat and moisture transport. Therefore, soil has an important effect on land–atmosphere interactions. In this study, an improved soil parameterization scheme that considers gravel and organic matter in the soil was introduced into CLM4.5(Community Land Model). By using data from the Zoige and Madoi sites on the Tibetan Plateau, the ability of the model to simultaneously simulate the duration of freeze–thaw periods, soil temperature, soil moisture, and surface energy during freeze–thaw processes, was validated. | 18 | Comparison of cell salvage with one and two suction devices during cesarean section in patients with placenta previa and/or accrete: a randomized controlled trial显示文摘Background:Cell salvage has recently been recommended for obstetric use in cases with a high risk of massive hemorrhage during cesarean section(CS).However,limited data are available to support the use of one suction device to collect lost blood.This study aimed to investigate the volume of red blood cells(RBCs)salvaged and the components of amniotic fluid(AF)in blood salvaged by one suction device or two devices during CS in patients with placenta previa and/or accrete.Methods:Thirty patients with placenta previa and/or accrete undergoing elective CS in the Women's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine were recruited for the present study from November 1,2017 to December 1,2018.The patients were randomly assigned to one of the two groups according to an Excel-generated random number sheet:Group 1(w=15),in which only one suction device was used to aspirate all blood and AF,and Group 2(w=15),in which a second suction device was mainly used to aspirate AF before the delivery of the placenta.Three samples of blood per patient(pre-wash,post-wash,and post-filtration)were collected to measure AF components.The salvaged RBC volumes were recorded.Continuous data of pre-wash,post-wash,and postfiltration samples were analyzed by using one-way analysis of variance with Tukey5s test for multiple comparisons,or Kruskal-Wallis test with Dunn test for multiple comparisons.Comparisons of continuous data between Group 1 and Group 2 were conducted using Student's t test or Mann-Whitney U test.Results:The salvaged RBC volume was significantly higher in Group 1 than that in Group 2(401.6±77.2 mL vs.330.1土53.3 mL,?=4.175,P<0.001).In both groups,squamous cells,lamellar bodies,and fat were significantly reduced by washing(all P<0.001)and squamous cells were further reduced by filtering(P<0.001).Squamous cells were found in six post-filtration samples(three from each group).Lamellar bodies and fat were completely removed by filtering.Insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1,alphafetoprotein,albumin,lactate dehydrogenase,and potassium were significantly reduced post-wash(all P<0.05),with no further significant reduction after filtration in either group(all P>0.05).The mean percentage of fetal RBCs post-filtration was(1.8±0.8)%with a range of 1.0%to 3.5%and(1.9±0.9)%with a range of 0.7%to 4.0%in Groups 1 and 2,respectively,showing no significant difference between the two groups(U=188.5,P=0.651).Conclusion:Cell salvage performed by one suction device could result in higher volume of salvaged RBCs and can be used safely for CS in patients with placenta previa and/or accrete when massive hemorrhage occurs.Trial registration number:ChiCTR-INR-17012926,http://gffzz62a03ee25e6f4a77hk5vucvbn0b6b6x6p.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/Chinese Clinical Trial Registry. | Hong Chen Hua Tan Pei-Xin Luo Yi-Fang Shen Chang-Cheng Lyu Xiao-Wei Qian Xin-Zhong Chen | 2020 | Chinese Medical Journal2020,,6: | 12 |

| 20 | Development of a supercritical and an ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed boiler显示文摘The supercritical circulating fluidized bed(CFB)boiler,which combines the advantages of CFB combustion with low cost emission control and supercritical steam cycle with high efficiency of coal energy,is believed to be the future of CFB combustion technology.It is also of greatest importance for low rank coal utilization in China.Different from the supercritical pulverized coal boiler that has been developed more than 50 years,the supercritical CFB boiler is still a new one which requires further investigation.Without any precedentor engineering reference,Chinese researchers have con ducted fundamental research,development,design of the supercritical CFB boilers independently.The design theory and key technology for supercritical CFB boiler were proposed.Key components and novel structures were invented.The first 600 MWe supercritical CFB boiler and its auxiliaries were successfully developed and demonstrated in Baima Power Plant,Shenhua Group as well as the simulator,control technology,installation technology,commissioning technology,system integration and operation technology.Compared with the 460 MWe supercritical CFB in Poland,developed in the same period and the only other supercritical one of commercial running in the word beside Baima,the 600 MWe one in Baima has a better performance.Besides,supercritical CFB boilers of 350 MWe have been developed and widely commercialized in China.In this paper,the updated progress of 660 MWe ultra-supercritical CFB boilers under development is introduced. | Junfu LYU Hairui YANG Wen LING Li NIE Guangxi YUE Ruixin LI Ying CHEN Shilong WANG | 2019 | Frontiers in Energy2019,13,1: | 11 |
