1Outline of the Report on Cardiovascular Disease in China,2010显示文摘Major and profound changes have taken place in China over the past 30 years.Rapid socioeconomic progress has exerted a great impact on lifestyle,ranging from food,clothing,working and living conditions,and means of transportation to leisure activities and entertainment.At the same time,new health problems have emerged,and health services are facing new challenges.Presently,cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are among the top health problems of the Chinese people,and pose a serious challenge to all engaged in the prevention and control of these diseases.An epidemic of CVD in China is emerging as a result of lifestyle changes,urbanization and longevity.Both national policy decision-making and medical practice urgently need an authoritative report which comprehensively reflects the trends in the epidemic of CVD and current preventive measures.Since 2005,guided by the Bureau of Disease Prevention of the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China and the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases of China,nationwide experts in the fields of epidemiology,clinical medicine and health economics in the realms of CVD,cerebrovascular disease,diabetes and chronic kidney disease,completed the Report on Cardiovascular Diseases in China every year.The report aims to provide a timely review of the trend of the epidemic and to assess the progress of prevention and control of CVD.In addition,as the report is authoritative,representative and readable,it will become an information platform in the CVD field and an important reference book for government,academic institutes,medical organizations and clinical physicians.This publication is expected to play a positive role in the prevention and control of CVD in China.We present an abstract from the Report on Cardiovascular Diseases in China (2010),including trends in CVD,morbidity and mortality of major CVDs,up-to-date assessment of risk factors,as well as health resources for CVD,and a profile of medical expenditure,with the aim of providing evidence for decision-making in CVD prevention and control programs in China,and of delivering the most authoritative information on CVD prevention and control for all citizens.HUSheng Shou KONG Ling Zhi GAO Run Lin ZHU Man Lu WANG Wen WANG Yong Jun WU Zhao Su CHEN Wei Wei LIU Ming Bo For the editorial board 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,3:93

4Acute cerebrovascular disease following COVID-19: a single center, retrospective, observational study显示文摘Background and purpose COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Apart from respiratory complications,acute cerebrovascular disease(CVD)has been observed in some patients with COVID-19.Therefore,we described the clinical characteristics,laboratory features,treatment and outcomes of CVD complicating SARS-CoV-2 infection.Materials and methods Demographic and clinical characteristics,laboratory findings,treatments and clinical outcomes were collected and analysed.Clinical characteristics and laboratory findings of patients with COVID-19 with or without new-onset CVD were compared.Results Of 219 patients with COVID-19,10(4.6%)developed acute ischaemic stroke and 1(0.5%)had intracerebral haemorrhage.COVID-19 with new onset of CVD were significantly older(75.7±10.8 years vs 52.1±15.3 years,p<0.001),more likely to present with severe COVID-19(81.8%vs 39.9%,p<0.01)and were more likely to have cardiovascular risk factors,including hypertension,diabetes and medical history of CVD(all p<0.05).In addition,they were more likely to have increased inflammatory response and hypercoagulable state as reflected in C reactive protein(51.1(1.3-127.9)vs 12.1(0.1-212.0)mg/L,p<0.05)and D-dimer(6.9(0.3-20.0)vs 0.5(0.1-20.0)mg/L,p<0.001).Of 10 patients with ischemic stroke;6 received antiplatelet treatment with aspirin or clopidogrel;and 3 of them died.The other four patients received anticoagulant treatment with enoxaparin and 2 of them died.As of 24 March 2020,six patients with CVD died(54.5%).Conclusion Acute CVD is not uncommon in COVID-19.Our findings suggest that older patients with risk factors are more likely to develop CVD.The development of CVD is an important negative prognostic factor which requires further study to identify optimal management strategy to combat the COVID-19 outbreak.Yanan Li Man Li Mengdie Wang Yifan Zhou Jiang Chang Ying Xian David Wang Ling Mao Huijuan Jin Bo Hu 2020Stroke & Vascular Neurology2020,5,3:22

6Epstein-Barr virus infection and persistence in nasopharyngeal epithelial cells显示文摘Epstein-Barr virus(EBV) infection is closely associated with undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC), strongly implicating a role for EBV in NPC pathogenesis; conversely, EBV infection is rarely detected in normal nasopharyngeal epithelial tissues. In general, EBV does not show a strong tropism for infecting human epithelial cells, and EBV infection in oropharyngeal epithelial cells is believed to be lytic in nature. To establish life-long infection in humans, EBV has evolved efficient strategies to infect B cells and hijack their cellular machinery for latent infection. Lytic EBV infection in oropharyngeal epithelial cells, though an infrequent event, is believed to be a major source of infectious EBV particles for salivary transmission. The biological events associated with nasopharyngeal epithelial cells are only beginning to be understood with the advancement of EBV infection methods and the availability of nasopharyngeal epithelial cell models for EBV infection studies. EBV infection in human epithelial cells is a highly inefficient process compared to that in B cells, which express the complement receptor type 2(CR2) to mediate EBV infection. Although receptor(s) on the epithelial cell surface for EBV infection remain(s) to be identified, EBV infection in epithelial cells could be achieved via the interaction of glycoproteins on the viral envelope with surface integrins on epithelial cells, which might trigger membrane fusion to internalize EBV in cells. Normal nasopharyngeal epithelial cells are not permissive for latent EBV infection, and EBV infection in normal nasopharyngeal epithelial cells usually results in growth arrest. However, genetic alterations in premalignant nasopharyngeal epithelial cells, including p16 deletion and cyclin D1 overexpression, could override the growth inhibitory effect of EBV infection to support stable and latent EBV infection in nasopharyngeal epithelial cells. 7Concurrent stenoses: A common etiology of stroke in Asians显示文摘Atherosclerosis of cerebral vessels is a common cause of stroke. Racial differences in the distribution of cerebrovascular occlusive disease are well documented.Extracranial stenosis is more common in Caucasians,while intracranial stenosis is more common in Asians,Hispanics and African-Americans. Concurrent atherosclerosis of extracranial and intracranial vessels is common in Asians. The incidence of concurrent stenoses ranges from 10% to 48% in patients with symptomatic cerebrovascular disease. The long-term prognosis of these patients is poor and they are at high risk of further vascular events or death. 8Highly efficient,genotype-independent transformation and gene editing in watermelon(Citrullus lanatus)using a chimeric ClGRF4-GIF1 gene显示文摘Efficient genetic transformation has the potential to advance research and breeding in watermelon(Citrullus lanatus),but regeneration from tissue culture remains challenging.Previous work showed that expressing a fusion of two interacting transcription factors,GROWTH-REGULATING FACTOR4(GRF4)and GRF-INTERACTING FACTOR1(GIF1),improved regeneration in wheat(Triticum aestivum).By overexpressing a chimeric fusion of Cl GRF4 and Cl GIF1,we achieved highly efficient transformation in watermelon.Mutating the mi396 micro RNA target site in Cl GRF further boosted the transformation efficiency up to 67.27%in a genotype-independent manner.Cl GRF4-GIF1 can also be combined with clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9(Cas9)genome editing tools to achieve highly efficient gene editing in watermelon,which we used to successfully create diploid seedless watermelon.This research thus puts forward a powerful transformation tool for future watermelon research and breeding.Qin Feng Ling Xiao Yizhen He Man Liu Jiafa Wang Shujuan Tian Xian Zhang Li Yuan 2021Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2021,63,12:8

11Progress of circulating fluidized bed combustion technology in China:a review显示文摘Circulating fluidized bed(CFB)technology plays an important role in the utilization of low-grade coal in China.This article reviews CFB combustion technology development in China and summarizes recent achievements.Since 1990 Chinese engineers and researchers have been undertaking work to improve CFB boiler technology.A completely novel CFB boiler design theory was developed and used in the domestic manufacturing of CFB boilers with various capacities.China is the largest supplier and customer of CFB boilers in the world due to the widespread use of CFB boilers.In 2007,the lower energy consumption CFB technology was successfully developed by re-specifying the fluidization state,which reduced the power consumption of forced fans and solved the potential erosion problems on the water wall.Afterwards,in order to increase the electric power generation efficiency,the supercritical CFB(SCCFB)boiler was developed and the first 600 MW SCCFB boiler was demonstrated and put into commercial operation in 2013.The success of the technology is evident with over 80 SCCFB boilers on order with capacities of 350 MW to 660 MW.Chinese scientists and engineers are also developing technology to lower the emissions of CFB combustion to meet the requirements of China’s strict emission regulations.This emission reduction is through high-efficiency desulfurization by limestone injection into the furnace and low NOx combustion,ultra-low emission of SO2 and NOx in the furnace can be realized by improving the bed quality and increasing the solid circulation rate.There is currently further research and design development being undertaken to develop a 660 MW ultra-supercritical CFB(USCCFB)boiler.The new boiler is expected to be operational before 2020 resulting in higher efficiency and lower energy consumption and emissions.Runxia Cai Xiwei Ke Junfu Lyu Hairui Yang Man Zhang Guangxi Yue Wen Ling 2017Clean Energy2017,1,1:5
12Comparable effects of Jiedu Granule, a compound Chinese herbal medicine, and sorafenib for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma: A prospective multicenter cohort study显示文摘Objective:Sorafenib has been extensively used for the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),and Chinese herbal medicine has also been used to manage advanced HCC.The present work evaluates the effectiveness and safety of Jiedu(JD)Granule,a compound of traditional Chinese herbal medicine,side-by-side with sorafenib for the treatment of advance HCC.Methods:Patients with advanced HCC receiving treatment with JD Granule or sorafenib were enrolled from December 2014 to March 2018.The primary endpoint was overall survival(OS).The secondary endpoints were progression-free survival(PFS)and safety.Propensity score matching(PSM)analysis was used to control for possible selection bias from the study group allocation process.Results:Of the 325 patients included,161 received JD Granule and 164 received sorafenib.No significant differences were found in OS or PFS among patients receiving JD Granule compared to sorafenib(P>0.05).Median OS of the two study groups was 6.83 months(95%confidence interval[CI]:5.83–9.47)in the group receiving JD Granule and 8 months(95%CI:6.67–9.80)in the group receiving sorafenib,with half-,1-and 2-year survival rates of 53.6%,31.2%and 13.2%vs 60.1%,35.5%and 14.2%,respectively.Even after PSM,the median survival time did not differ between the JD Granule group(9.03 months;95%CI:6.37–14.2)and the sorafenib group(7.93 months;95%CI:6.5–9.97),with comparable half-,1-and 2-year survival rates.The most common adverse events(AEs)were diarrhea(13.7%)and fatigue(5.6%)in the JD Granule group,and hand-foot skin reaction(46.3%)and diarrhea(36.6%)in the sorafenib group.The JD Granule was more cost-effective than sorafenib treatment for advanced HCC.Conclusion:Compared to sorafenib,JD Granule was more cost-effective and caused fewer AEs for the treatment of Chinese patients with advanced HCC.He-tong Zhao Yong-bin Meng Xiao-feng Zhai Bin-bin Cheng Sha-sha Yu Man Yao Hui-xia Yin Xu-ying Wan Yun-ke Yang Hui Liu Feng Shen Chang-quan Ling 2020Journal of Integrative Medicine2020,18,4:5
13Garcinol sensitizes human head and neck carcinoma to cisplatin in a xenograft mouse model despite downregulation of proliferative biomarkers显示文摘OBJECTIVE Platinum compounds such as cisplatin and carboplatin are frequently used as the first-line chemotherapy for the treatment of the head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HNSCC).In the present study,we investigated whether garcinol,apolyisoprenylated benzophenone can chemosensitize HNSCC to cisplatin.METHODS The effect of garcinol and cisplatin on HNSCC was assessed by MTT,Western blotting,real time PCR,FACS,immunohistochemistry,DNA binding assay and xenograft mouse model.RESULTS We found that garcinol inhibited the viability of a panel of diverse HNSCC cell lines,enhanced the apoptotic effect of cisplatin,suppressed constitutive as well as cisplatin-induced NF-κB activation,and downregulated the expression of various oncogenic gene products(cyclin D1,Bcl-2,survivin and VEGF).In vivo study showed that administration of garcinol alone(0.5 mg·kg-1,ip five times/week)significantly suppressed the growth of the tumor,and this effect was further increased by cisplatin.Both the markers of proliferation index(Ki-67)and microvessel density(CD31)were downregulated in tumor tissues by the combination of cisplatin and garcinol.The pharmacokinetic results of garcinol indicated that good systemic exposure was achievable after ip administration of garcinol at 0.5and 2mg·kg-1 with mean peak concentration(cmax)of 1825.4 and 6635.7nmol·L-1 in the mouse serum,respectively.CONCLUSION Overall,our results suggest that garcinol can indeed potentiate the effects of cisplatin by negative regulation of various inflammatory and proliferative biomarkers.Feng Li Muthu K. 14Overview of the Shenzhen Emergency Medical Service Call Pattern显示文摘BACKGROUND:In Shenzhen,the Emergency Medical Service(EMS) system has been in service since 1997.This study aims to examine the operation of Shenzhen 120 EMS center and to identify the reasons of calling EMS.METHODS:In this retrospective quantitative descriptive study,the data from the Shenzhen 120 EMS registry in 2011 were analyzed.RESULTS:Shenzhen 120 EMS center is a communication command center.When the number of 120 are dialed,it is forwarded to the closest appropriate hospital for ambulance dispatch.In2011,the Shenzhen 120 EMS center received 153 160 ambulance calls,with an average of 420 calls per day.Calling emergency services was mainly due to traffic accidents.Trauma and other acute diseases constituted a majority of ambulance transports.The adult patients aged 15-60 years are the principal users of EMS.There are no recognized 'paramedic' doctors and nurses.The pre-hospital emergency service is under the operation of emergency departments of hospitals.Shenzhen at present does not have specialized pre-hospital training for doctors and nurses in posttrauma management.Moreover,specialized pre-hospital training,financial support,and public health education on proper use of EMS should be emphasized.CONCLUSION:The Shenzhen 120 EMS center has its own epidemiology characteristics.Traumatic injury and traffic accident are the main reasons for calling ambulance service.In-depth study emphasizing the distribution and characteristics of trauma patients is crucial to the future development of EMS.Shuk Man Lo Yi Min Yu Lap Yip Larry Lee Mi Ling Eliza Wong Sek Ying Chair Edward J Kalinowski Tak Shing Jimmy Chan 2012World Journal of Emergency Medicine2012,3,4:4

16Glutamate synthase 1 is involved in iron-deficiency response and long-distance transportation in Arabidopsis显示文摘Iron is an essential microelement for plant growth.After uptake from the soil,iron is chelated by ligands and translocated from roots to shoots for sub-sequent utilization.However,the number of ligands in-volved in iron chelation is unclear.In this study,we identified and demonstrated that GLU1,which encodes a ferredoxin-dependent glutamate synthase,was involved in iron homeostasis.First,the expression of GLU1 was strongly induced by iron deficiency condition.Second,lesion of GLU1 results in reduced transcription of many iron-deficiency-responsive genes in roots and shoots.The mutant plants revealed a decreased iron concentration in the shoots,and displayed severe leaf chlorosis under the condition of Fe limitation,compared to wild-type.Third,the product of GLU1,glutamate,could chelate iron in vivo and promote iron transportation.Last,we also found that supplementation of glutamate in the medium can alleviate cadmium toxicity in plants.Overall,our results provide evidence that GLU1 is involved in iron homeo-stasis through affecting glutamate synthesis under iron deficiency conditions in Arabidopsis.Man Cui Mengjun Gu Yaru Lu Yue Zhang Chunlin Chen Hong‐Qing Ling Huilan Wu 2020Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2020,62,12:2
17Robust Image Hashing via Random Gabor Filtering and DWT显示文摘Image hashing is a useful multimedia technology for many applications,such as image authentication,image retrieval,image copy detection and image forensics.In this paper,we propose a robust image hashing based on random Gabor filtering and discrete wavelet transform(DWT).Specifically,robust and secure image features are first extracted from the normalized image by Gabor filtering and a chaotic map called Skew tent map,and then are compressed via a single-level 2-D DWT.Image hash is finally obtained by concatenating DWT coefficients in the LL sub-band.Many experiments with open image datasets are carried out and the results illustrate that our hashing is robust,discriminative and secure.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve comparisons show that our hashing is better than some popular image hashing algorithms in classification performance between robustness and discrimination.Zhenjun Tang Man Ling Heng Yao Zhenxing Qian Xianquan Zhang Jilian Zhang Shijie Xu 2018Computers, Materials & Continua2018,,5:2
18Restart-up Performance of a CFB Boiler after a Sudden Power Failure Accident显示文摘Due to the massive bed materials in its typical main loop,a circulating fluidized bed(CFB)boiler may face greater trouble in operation and restart-up if an unplanned sudden power failure happens in the power plant.This study aims to explore the restart-up performance of a 170 t/h natural circulation CFB boiler after a sudden power failure and evaluate whether the hot restart-up can be realized.The heat transfer process after the restoration of the primary air is modeled.Validating the isothermal property of the bed after the restoration of the power and air supply,the correlation among the accident duration time,bed temperature after the power restores,inlet air temperature,air supply time,and air velocity is proposed.The predicted results indicate that the major influencing factor of the bed temperature during this process is primary air velocity.To provide guidelines for judgment on whether the hot restart-up can be realized,the maximum values of the air supply time and accident duration time for hot restart-up for different types of coals are given.The results show both of them have a rapid decrease as the coal ignition temperature in a CFB boiler increases from 450°C to 650°C,which also means that the coal ignition temperature plays a very important role in the restart-up process.Based on the simulation results of bed temperature during the accident,it is also estimated that the drum level drops by 77.7 mm after 8 hours but still stays in the permissible range.YAO Yuge JIANG Ling XIAO Huiren DENG Boyu ZHANG Man ZHANG Yang YANG Hairui LYU Junfu 2022Journal of Thermal Science2022,31,3:2
19Associations of muscle mass,strength,and quality with all-cause mortality in China:a population-based cohort study显示文摘Background It remains unclear about the association of muscle mass,strength,and quality with death in the general Chinese population of diverse economical and geographical backgrounds.The present study aimed to comprehensively examine such associations across different regions in China.Methods Based on the China Kadoorie Biobank study,the present study included 23,290 participants who were aged 38 to 88 years and had no prevalent cardiovascular diseases or cancer.Muscle mass and grip strength were measured using calibrated instruments.Arm muscle quality was defined as the ratio of grip strength to arm muscle mass.Low muscle mass,grip strength,and arm muscle quality were defined as the sex-specific lowest quintiles of muscle mass index,grip strength,and arm muscle quality,respectively.Cox proportional hazards models yielded hazard ratios(HRs)and 95%confidence intervals(CIs)for risks of all-cause mortality in relation to muscle mass,strength,and quality.Results During a median follow-up of 3.98 years,739 participants died.The HR(95%CI)of all-cause mortality risk was 1.28(1.08–1.51)for low appendicular muscle mass index,1.38(1.16–1.62)for low total muscle mass index,1.68(1.41–2.00)for low grip strength,and 1.41(1.20–1.66)for low arm muscle quality in models adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics,lifestyle factors,and medical histories.Conclusion Low muscle mass,grip strength,and arm muscle quality are all associated with short-term increased risks of mortality,indicating the importance of maintaining normal muscle mass,strength,and quality for general Chinese adults.Man Wu Yuxia Wei Jun Lv Yu Guo Pei Pei Jiachen Li Huaidong Du Ling Yang Yiping Chen Xiaohui Sun Hua Zhang Junshi Chen Zhengming Chen Canqing Yu Liming Li 2022Chinese Medical Journal2022,,11:2
