1Pelvic lipomatosis with cystitis glandularis managed with cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor:A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Pelvic lipomatosis(PL)is a rare benign condition with characteristic overgrowth of histologically benign fat and invasion and compression of pelvic organs,often leading to non-specific lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS).Approximately 40%of patients with PL have cystitis glandularis(CG).The cause of PL combined with CG is poorly understood,and there is currently no effective treatment.Refractory CG with upper urinary tract obstruction even requires partial or radical bladder resection.CASE SUMMARY In this case,a patient suffering from PL with CG was treated by transurethral resection of bladder tumour(TUR-BT)and oral administration of celecoxib,a selective cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)inhibitor.The LUTS were alleviated,and the cystoscopy results improved significantly.Immunohistochemistry showed upregulated COX-2 expression in the epithelium of TUR-BT samples,suggesting that COX-2 may participate in the pathophysiological process of PL combined with CG.CONCLUSION We report for the first time that celecoxib may be an effective treatment strategy for PL combined with refractory CG.Li-Cai Mo Song-Zhe Piao Hai-Hong Zheng Tao Hong Qin Feng Mang Ke 2021World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,17:4

3A Convenient and Biosafe Replicon with Accessory Genes of SARS-CoV-2 and Its Potential Application in Antiviral Drug Discovery显示文摘SARS-CoV-2 causes the pandemic of COVID-19 and no effective drugs for this disease are available thus far.Due to the high infectivity and pathogenicity of this virus,all studies on the live virus are strictly confined in the biosafety level 3(BSL3)laboratory but this would hinder the basic research and antiviral drug development of SARS-CoV-2 because the BSL3 facility is not commonly available and the work in the containment is costly and laborious.In this study,we constructed a reverse genetics system of SARS-CoV-2 by assembling the viral cDNA in a bacterial artificial chromosome(BAC)vector with deletion of the spike(S)gene.Transfection of the cDNA into cells results in the production of an RNA replicon that keeps the capability of genome or subgenome replication but is deficient in virion assembly and infection due to the absence of S protein.Therefore,such a replicon system is not infectious and can be used in ordinary biological laboratories.We confirmed the efficient replication of the replicon by demonstrating the expression of the subgenomic RNAs which have similar profiles to the wild-type virus.By mutational analysis of nsp12 and nsp14,we showed that the RNA polymerase,exonuclease,and cap N7 methyltransferase play essential roles in genome replication and sgRNA production.We also created a SARS-CoV-2 replicon carrying a luciferase reporter gene and this system was validated by the inhibition assays with known anti-SARS-CoV-2 inhibitors.Thus,such a one-plasmid system is biosafe and convenient to use,which will benefit both fundamental research and development of antiviral drugs.Yun-Yun Jin Hanwen Lin Liu Cao Wei-Chen Wu Yanxi Ji Liubing Du Yiling Jiang Yanchun Xie Kuijie Tong Fan Xing Fuxiang Zheng Mang Shi Ji-An Pan Xiaoxue Peng Deyin Guo 2021Virologica Sinica2021,36,5:2
4Engineering of SnO_(2)/TiO_(2) heterojunction compact interface with efficient charge transfer pathway for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution显示文摘Fabricating an efficient charge transfer pathway at the compact interface between two kinds of semiconductors is an important strategy for designing hydrogen production heterojunction photocatalysts.In this work,we prepared a compact,stable and oxygen vacancy-rich photocatalyst(SnO_(2)/TiO_(2) heterostructure)via a simple and reasonable in-situ synthesis method.Briefly,SnCl_(2)–2H_(2)O is hydrolyzed on the TiO_(2) precursor.After the pyrolysis process,SnO_(2) nanoparticles(5 nm)were dispersed on the surface of ultrathin TiO_(2) nanosheets uniformly.Herein,the heterojunction system can offer abundant oxygen vacancies,which can act as active sites for catalytic reactions.Meanwhile,the interfacial contact of SnO_(2)/TiO_(2) grading semiconductor oxide is uniform and tight,which can promote the separation and migration of photogenerated carriers.As shown in the experimental results,the hydrogen production rate of SnO_(2)/TiO_(2) is 16.7 mmol h^(-1)g^(-1)(4.4 times higher than that of TiO_(2)),which is owing to its good dynamical properties.This work demonstrates an efficient strategy of tight combining SnO_(2)/TiO_(2) with abundant oxygen vacancies to improve catalytic efficiency.Hongli Wang Jianan Liu Xudong Xiao Huiyuan Meng Jie Wu Chuanyu Guo Mang Zheng Xiaolei Wang Shien Guo Baojiang Jiang 2023Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,1:1

7The prolonged effect of glucagon-like peptide 2 pretreatment on growth performance and intestinal development of weaned piglets显示文摘Background: Glucagon-like peptide 2(GLP-2) is a potent epithelium-specific intestinal growth factor. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the prolonged effect of GLP-2 on the growth performance of weaned piglets. Forty piglets weaned at the age of 28 d with an average BW of 6.8 ± 0.4 kg were assigned to four treatments:(i) nonchallenged control;(ii) LPS-challenged control;(iii) LPS + low GLP-2; and(iv) LPS + high GLP-2. Piglets in groups(i),(ii), and(iv) were s.c. injected with PBS supplemented with human [Gly2]GLP-21-34 at doses of 0, 2 and 10 nmol/kg BW per day for seven consecutive days. BW, gain:feed ratio(G:F), and plasma GLP-2 levels were determined on d 0,7, and 14 after weaning. Piglets were challenged with i.p. administration of Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide(LPS)at a dose of 100 μg/kg on d 14 to induce intestinal damage. Twenty-four hours later, intestinal tract samples were collected to assess intestinal morphology and quantify enzyme activity.Results: Plasma GLP-2 levels decreased after weaning, but in the high GLP-2 group, plasma GLP-2 was maintained on d 7 and even increased to a level higher than the preweaning level on d 14(P < 0.05). High GLP-2 treatment significantly increased the duodenal, jejunal and ileal weight, as well as the gross weight of the small intestine(SI),and the SI weight index(P < 0.05). LPS caused villous atrophy and disrupted intestinal morphology in the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. GLP-2 also significantly increased the villus height and the villus height/crypt depth ratio(VCR) of the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum(P < 0.05). Histological examination revealed that in GLP-2-treated groups, the integrity of the villus was maintained, and the villus was protected against LPS-induced damage. GLP-2 significantly increased the activity of alkaline phosphatase(AKP), γ-glutamyltranspeptidase(γ-GT), and pancreatic lipase in the duodenum and jejunum(P < 0.05). GLP-2 treatment also significantly increased the average daily gain(ADG) and G:F of piglets at 0 to 7, 7 to 14, as well as 0 to14 d(P < 0.05), resulting in a significant increase of final BW in high GLP-2 pigs(P = 0.016).Conclusions: Exogenous GLP-2 improved the growth of weaned piglets and protected them against LPS-induced intestinal damage. 10Supramolecular precursor derived loofah sponge-like Fe_(2)O_(x)/C for effective synergistic reaction of Fenton and photocatalysis显示文摘Fenton or photocatalytic degradations of organic contaminants are recognized as promising approaches to address the increasing environmental pollution issues.Herein,we develop the effective synergistic catalysis reaction of Fenton and photocatalysis based on a loofah sponge-like Fe_(2)O_(x)/C nanocomposite,which exhibits excellent nitrobenzene photocatalytic degradation property.It is noted that Fe2O3 nanoparticles with surface Fe^(2+) species were encapsulated with an ultrathin carbon layer(denoted as Fe_(2)O_(x)/C)via a supramolecular self-sacrificing template and following thermal treatment process.The experimental results indicated that the thin layer carbon coating not only inhibited the Fe iron leaching from the Fe_(2)O_(x)but also prompted the separation and transferring of electrons–hole pairs.The introduction of Fe_(2)O_(x)/C enables the Fenton reaction to induce a rapid Fe^(2+)/Fe^(3+)cycle,and meanwhile,together with the photocatalytic reaction to produce continuous active substances for the subsequent degradation catalytic reaction without successive H2O2,resulting in the inexpensive and the effective photocatalytic procedure.As a result,100%nitrobenzene(100 mg/L)was degraded and 97%of the organic carbon was mineralized in 90 min using the Fe_(2)O_(x)/C(0.1 g/L)at a low H_(2)O_(2) dosage(0.50 mM),under air mass(AM)1.5 irradiation.Theoretical calculations confirmed that the Fe_(2)O_(x)/C-600 with thin carbon layer promoted the dissociation of H2O2 and the·OH desorption.The synergistic catalysis of this work may provide new ideas for low-cost and more efficient treatment of pollutants.Chen Zhao Shien Guo Qi Li Jianan Liu Mang Zheng Xudong Xiao Baojiang Jiang Honggang Fu 2022Nano Research2022,15,3:0

13Assessment of two faecal sludge treatment plants in urban areas:Case study in Beijing显示文摘Every day,human beings produce excreta all over the world,and the sludge that accumulates in waste disposal systems is referred to as the‘faecal sludge(FS)’.FS can cause serious environmental pollution in urban areas if it cannot be disposed of properly.A complete FS management system must include onsite sanitation technologies,FS collection and transport,a treatment plant,and resource recovery or disposal of the treatment end-products.Focusing on the treatment and reuse/disposal step of a FS complete service chain,this research presents two cases of FS treatment in Beijing.In Case 1,FS biogas plant adopts anaerobic digestion(AD)to treat FS,and the digestate can be used as biofertilizer in the surrounding greenhouse.In Case 2,several technologies including solid-liquid separation,dewatering,pyrolysis,AD and co-composting are integrated to find innovative solutions for FS treatment.A comprehensive assessment including the aspects of technology,economy and environment is conducted for further SWOT(Strengths,Weaknesses,Opportunities and Threats)analysis.Then,critical strategies are developed,which include(1)selecting project site for optimized transportation,maximum waste reuse,minimum environmental impact and convenient final effluent disposal;(2)planning technical options at a feasible study stage,considering resource recovery,secondary pollution prevention and fire protection;(3)exploring market channels for by-products sale to increase profitability;(4)guaranteeing engineering quality and service life for the purpose of sustainable operation;(5)minimizing health risks to persons exposed to the untreated FS;and(6)providing necessary training for hygiene protection.The cases in Beijing can provide valuable lessons for urban areas in developing countries and the strategies can provide a reference for stakeholders and decision-makers who intend to develop FS treatment projects.Cheng Shikun Zheng Lei Zhao Mingyue Bai Xue Li Zifu Heinz-Peter Mang 2017International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,3:0
