| 1 | Galectin-1-mediated biochemical controls of melanoma and glioma aggressive behavior显示文摘Gliomas and melanomas are associated with dismal prognosis because of their marked intrinsic resistance to proapoptotic stimuli, such as conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy,as well as their ability to escape immune cell attacks. In addition, gliomas and melanomas display pronounced neoangiogenesis.Galectin-1 is a hypoxia-sensitive protein, which is abundantly secreted by glioma and melanoma cells, which displays marked proangiogenic effects. It also provides immune tolerogenic environments to melanoma and glioma cells through the killing of activated T cells that attack these tumor cells.Galectin-1 protects glioma and melanoma cells against cytotoxic insults(including chemotherapy and radiotherapy) through a direct role in the unfolded protein response.Altogether, these facts clearly point to galectin-1 as an important target to be combated in gliomas and melanomas in order to:(1) weaken the defenses of these two types of cancers against radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy/vaccine therapy;and(2) reinforce antiangiogenic therapies. In the present article,we review the biochemical and molecular biology-related pathways controlled by galectin-1,which are actually beneficial for melanoma and glioma cells, and therefore detrimental for melanoma and glioma patients. | Florence Lefranc Véronique Mathieu Robert Kiss | 2011 | World Journal of Biological Chemistry2011,2,9: | 6 |

| 3 | Minimally invasive liver resection for huge(≥10cm)tumors:an international multicenter matched cohort study with regression discontinuity analyses显示文摘Background:The application and feasibility of minimally invasive liver resection(MILR)for huge liver tumours(≥10 cm)has not been well documented. Methods:Retrospective analysis of data on 6,617 patients who had MILR for liver tumours were gathered from 21 international centers between 2009-2019.Huge tumors and large tumors were defined as tumors with a size≥10.0 cm and 3.0-9.9 cm based on histology,respectively.1:1 coarsened exact-matching(CEM)and 1:2 Mahalanobis distance-matching(MDM)was performed according to clinically-selected variables.Regression discontinuity analyses were performed as an additional line of sensitivity analysis to estimate local treatment effects at the 10-cm tumor size cutoff. Results:Of 2,890 patients with tumours≥3 cm,there were 205 huge tumors. After 1:1 CEM,174 huge tumors were matched to 174 large tumors;and after 1:2 MDM,190 huge tumours were matched to 380 large tumours. There was significantly and consistently increased intraoperative blood loss, frequency in the application of Pringle maneuver, major morbidity and postoperative stay in the huge tumour group compared to the large tumour group after both 1:1 CEM and 1:2 MDM.These findings were reinforced in RD analyses.Intraoperative blood transfusion rate and open conversion rate were significantly higher in the huge tumor group after only 1:2 MDM but not 1:1 CEM.Conclusions:MILR for huge tumours can be safely performed in expert centers It is an operation with substantial complexity and high technical requirement, with worse perioperative outcomes compared to MILR for large tumors, therefore judicious patient selection is pivotal. | Tan-To Cheung Xiaoying Wang Mikhail Efanov Rong Liu David Fuks Gi-Hong Choi Nicholas LSyn Charing CChong Iswanto Sucandy Adrian KHChiow Marco VMarino Mikel Gastaca Jae Hoon Lee TPeter Kingham Mathieu D’Hondt Sung Hoon Choi Robert PSutcliffe Ho-Seong Han Chung Ngai Tang Johann Pratschke Roberto ITroisi Brian KPGoh International Robotic and Laparoscopic Liver Resection Study Group Collaborators | 2021 | Hepatobiliary Surgery and Nutrition2021,10,5: | 1 |

| 18 | Locoregional therapies and their effects on the tumoral microenvironment of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma显示文摘Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC) is expected to become the second leading cause of death from cancer by 2030. Despite intensive research in the field of therapeutics, the 5-year overall survival is approximately 8%, with only 20% of patients eligible for surgery at the time of diagnosis. The tumoral microenvironment(TME) of the PDAC is one of the main causes for resistance to antitumoral treatments due to the presence of tumor vasculature, stroma, and a modified immune response. The TME of PDAC is characterized by high stiffness due to fibrosis, with hypo microvascular perfusion, along with an immunosuppressive environment that constitutes a barrier to effective antitumoral treatment. While systemic therapies often produce severe side effects that can alter patients’ quality of life, locoregional therapies have gained attention since their action is localized to the pancreas and can thus alleviate some of the barriers to effective antitumoral treatment due to their physical effects. Local hyperthermia using radiofrequency ablation and radiation therapy-most commonly using a local high single dose-are the two main modalities holding promise for clinical efficacy. Recently, irreversible electroporation and focused ultrasound-derived cavitation have gained increasing attention. To date, most of the data are limited to preclinical studies, but ongoing clinical trials may help better define the role of these locoregional therapies in the management of PDAC patients. | Thomas Lambin Cyril Lafon Robert Andrew Drainville Mathieu Pioche Frédéric Prat | 2022 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2022,28,13: | 1 |
