| 1 | Expenditure of hospital care on cancer in China, from 2011 to 2015显示文摘Objective: A solid understanding of levels and trends of spending on cancer is important to evaluate whether our healthcare resources were wisely spent and to prioritize future resources for cancer treatment and prevention.However, studies on economic burden of cancers in China are scant and the results are inconsistent.Methods: The Chinese hospital information database and nearly 350 million inpatient medical record data were used. As the ratios of cancer inpatient payments to total inpatient payments were mainly influenced by the grades and sites of hospitals, the estimates of payments of cancer inpatients in this study were stratified by hospital grades and provinces. Only the payments of cancer inpatients happened in grade 2, grade 3 and specialized cancer hospitals were included in the analyses. The total medical payments of cancers in China were estimated based on the ratios of outpatient payments to inpatient payments in specialized cancer hospitals.Results: From 2011 to 2015, the payments of cancer inpatients in China have increased by 84.1% and the total inpatient payments reached 177.1 billion RMB in 2015, accounting for 4.3% of the total health expenditure in China. Based on the ratio of outpatient payments to inpatient payments, the total payments on cancer treatments in China were estimated to be 221.4 billion RMB in 2015. Among different cancer types, the highest payments were the treatment of trachea, bronchus and lung cancer. The major cancer inpatient payments(67.1% in 2015) spent in grade 3 general hospitals and this ratio increased continually from 2011 to 2015. The expenditure of cancer treatments also varies by region with the major expenditure in the eastern region of China.Conclusions: This study estimated the total payments of cancer treatments in China and analyzed how the money was spent on cancer treatments in the recent 5 years, which would provide information for decision makings on the allocation of resources to service provisioning, prevention strategies, research funding, and assessing whether the economic burden of cancer is affordable to the governments. | Yue Cai Ming Xue Wanqing Chen Maogui Hu Zhiwen Miao Lan Lan Rongshou Zheng Qun Meng | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2017,29,3: | 81 |

| 4 | Ginsenoside Rb1 Attenuates Isoflurane/surgery-induced Cognitive Dysfunction via Inhibiting Neuroinflammation and Oxidative Stress显示文摘Objective Anesthetic isoflurane plus surgery has been reported to induce cognitive impairment. The underlying mechanism and targeted intervention remain largely to be determined. Ginsenoside Rb1 was reported to be neuroprotective. We therefore set out to determine whether ginsenoside Rb1 can attenuate isoflurane/surgery-induced cognitive dysfunction via inhibiting neuroinflammation and oxidative stress. Methods Five-months-old C57BL/6J female mice were treated with 1.4% isoflurane plus abdominal surgery for two hours. Sixty mg/kg ginsenoside Rb1 were given intraperitoneally from 7 days before surgery. Cognition of the mice were assessed by Barnes Maze. Levels of postsynaptic density-95 and synaptophysin in mice hippocampus were measured by Western blot. Levels of reactive oxygen species, tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 in mice hippocampus were measured by ELISA. Results Here we show for the first time that the ginsenoside Rb1 treatment attenuated the isoflurane/surgery-induced cognitive impairment. Moreover, ginsenoside Rb1 attenuated the isoflurane/surgery-induced synapse dysfunction. Finally, ginsenoside Rb1 mitigated the isoflurane/surgery-induced elevation levels of reactive oxygen species, tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 in the mice hippocampus. | 5 | Ginsenoside Rg1 Attenuates Isoflurane-induced Caspase-3 Activation via Inhibiting Mitochondrial Dysfunction显示文摘Objective The inhalation anesthetic isoflurane has been shown to induce mitochondrial dysfunction and caspase activation, which may lead to learning and memory impairment. Ginsenoside Rg1 is reported to be neuroprotective. We therefore set out to determine whether ginsenoside Rg1 can attenuate isoflurane-induced caspase activation via inhibiting mitochondrial dysfunction. Methods We investigated the effects of ginsenoside Rg1 at concentrations of 12.5, 25, and 50 μmol/L and pretreatment times of 12 h and 24 h on isoflurane-induced caspase-3 activation in H4 na?ve and stably transfected H4 human neuroglioma cells that express full-length human amyloid precursor protein(APP)(H4-APP cells). For mitochondrial dysfunction, we assessed mitochondrial permeability transition pore(m PTP) and adenosine-5'-triphosphate(ATP) levels. We employed Western blot analysis, chemiluminescence, and flowcytometry. Results Here we show that pretreatment with 50 μmol/L ginsenoside Rg1 for 12 h attenuated isoflurane-induced caspase-3 activation and mitochondrial dysfunction in H4-APP cells, while pretreatment with 25 and 50 μmol/L ginsenoside Rg1 for 24 h attenuated isoflurane-induced caspase-3 activation and mitochondrial dysfunction in both H4 na?ve and H4-APP cells. Conclusion These data suggest that ginsenoside Rg1 may ameliorate isoflurane-induced caspase-3 activation by inhibiting mitochondrial dysfunction. | 6 | Chromium-containing traditional Chinese medicine, Tianmai Xiaoke Tablet improves blood glucose through activating insulin-signaling pathway and inhibiting PTP1B and PCK2 in diabetic rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE: Chromium is an essential mineral that is thought to be necessary for normal glucose homeostasis.Numerous studies give evidence that chromium picolinate can modulate blood glucose and insulin resistance.The main ingredient of Tianmai Xiaoke(TMXK) Tablet is chromium picolinate.In China, TMXK Tablet is used to treat type 2 diabetes.This study investigated the effect of TMXK on glucose metabolism in diabetic rats to explore possible underlying molecular mechanisms for its action.METHODS: Diabetes was induced in rats by feeding a high-fat diet and subcutaneously injection with a single dose of streptozotocin(50 mg/kg, tail vein).One week after streptozotocin-injection, model rats were divided into diabetic group, low dose of TMXK group and high dose of TMXK group.Eight normal rats were used as normal control.After 8 weeks of treatment, skeletal muscle was obtained and was analyzed using Roche NimbleGen mRNA array and quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR).Fasting blood glucose, oral glucose tolerance test and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR) index were also measured.RESULTS: The authors found that the administration of TMXK Tablet can reduce the fasting blood glucose and fasting insulin level and HOMA-IR index.The authors also found that 2 223 genes from skeletal muscle of the high-dose TMXK group had significant changes in expression(1 752 increased, 471 decreased).Based on Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes pathway analysis, the most three significant pathways were 'insulin signaling pathway', 'glycolysis/gluconeogenesis' and 'citrate cycle(TCA)'.qPCR showed that relative levels of forkhead box O3(FoxO3), phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase 2(Pck2), and protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B(Ptp1b) were signifi cantly decreased in the high-dose TMXK group, while v-akt murine thymoma viral oncogene homolog 1(Akt1) and insulin receptor substrate 2(Irs2) were increased.CONCLUSION: Our data show that TMXK Tablet reduces fasting glucose level and improves insulin resistance in diabetic rats.The mechanism may be linked to the inactivation of PTP1B and PCK enzymes, or through intracellular pathways, such as the insulin signaling pathway. | Qian Zhang Xin-hua Xiao Ming Li Wen-hui Li Miao Yu Hua-bing Zhang Fan Ping Zhi-xin Wang Jia Zheng | 2014 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2014,12,3: | 8 |
| 7 | Development and Validation of a Model for Predicting Diabetic Nephropathy in Chinese People显示文摘Objective To develop a risk model for predicting later development of diabetic nephropathy(DN)in Chinese people with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and evaluate its performance with independent validation.Methods We used data collected from the project‘Comprehensive Research on the Prevention and Control of Diabetes’,which was a community-based study conducted by the Jiangsu Center for Disease Control and Prevention in 2013.A total of 11,771 eligible participants were included in our study.The endpoint was a clear diagnosis of DN.Data was divided into two components:a training set for model development and a test set for validation.The Cox proportional hazard regression was used for survival analysis in men and women.The model’s performance was evaluated by discrimination and calibration.Results The incidence(cases per 10,000 person-years)of DN was 9.95(95%CI;8.66-11.43)in women and 11.28(95%CI;9.77-13.03)in men.Factors including diagnosis age,location,body mass index,high-density-lipoprotein cholesterol,creatinine,hypertension,dyslipidemia,retinopathy,diet control,and physical activity were significant in the final model.The model showed high discrimination and good calibration.Conclusion The risk model for predicting DN in people with T2DM can be used in clinical practice for improving the quality of risk management and intervention. | MIAO Dan Dan PAN En Chun ZHANG Qin SUN Zhong Ming QIN Yu WU Ming | 2017 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2017,30,2: | 8 |

| 9 | Risk factors for operative morbidity and mortality in gastric cancer patients undergoing total gastrectomy显示文摘AIM: To study the risk factors for morbidity and mortality following total gastrectomy. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the record of 125 consecutive patients who underwent tota gastrectomy for gastric cancer at the Second Affi liated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine between January 2003 and March 2008. RESULTS: The overall morbidity rate was 20.8% (27 patients) and the mortality rate was 3.2% (4 patients) Morbidity rates were higher in patients aged over 60 [odds ratio (OR) 4.23 (95% confidence interval (CI 1.09 to 12.05)], with preoperative comorbidity [with vs without, OR 1.25 (95% CI 1.13 to 8.12)], when the combined resection was performed [combined resection vs total gastrectomy only, OR 2.67 (95% C 1.58 to 5.06)]. | 10 | Inactivated Sendai Virus Induces ROS-dependent Apoptosis and Autophagy in Human Prostate Cancer Cells显示文摘Objective The current study aims to investigate the effect of Hemagglutinating virus of Japan envelope(HVJ-E) on induction of apoptosis and autophagy in human prostate cancer PC3 cells, and the underlying mechanisms. Methods PC3 cells were treated with HVJ-E at various multiplicity of infection(MOI), and the generated reactive oxygen species(ROS), cell viability, apoptosis, and autophagy were detected, respectively. Next, the role of ROS played in the regulation of HVJ-E-induced apoptosis and autuphagy in PC3 cells were analysed. In the end, the relationship between HVJ-E-induced apoptosis and autuophagy was investigated by using rapamycin and chloroquine. Results Flow cytometry assay revealed that HVJ-E treatment induced dose-dependent apoptosis and that the JNK and p38 MAPK signaling pathways were involved in HVJ-E-induced apoptosis in PC3 cells. In addition, HVJ-E was able to induce autophagy in PC3 cells via the class III PI3 K/beclin-1 pathway. The data also implyed that HVJ-E-triggered autophagy and apoptosis were ROS dependent. When ROS was blocked with N-acetylcysteine(NAC), HVJ-E-induced LC3-II conversion and apoptosis were reversed. Interestingly, HVJ-E-induced apoptosis was significantly increased by an inducer of autophagy, rapamycin pretreatment, both in vitro and in vivo. | 11 | A draft sequence of the rice (Oryza sativa ssp. indica) genome显示文摘The sequence of the rice genome holds fundamental information for its biology, including physiology, genetics, development, and evolution, as well as information on many beneficial phenotypes of economic significance. Using a 'whole genome shotgun' approach, we have pro-duced a draft rice genome sequence of Oryza sativa ssp. in-dica, the major crop rice subspecies in China and many other regions of Asia. The draft genome sequence is constructed from over 4.3 million successful sequencing traces with an accumulative total length of 2214.9 Mb. The initial assembly of the non-redundant sequences reached 409.76 Mb in length, based on 3.30 million successful sequencing traces with a total length of 1797.4 Mb from an indica variant cultivar 93-11, giving an estimated coverage of 95.29% of the rice genome with an average base accuracy of higher than 99%. | 12 | Persimmon leaf flavonoid promotes brain ischemic tolerance显示文摘Persimmon leaf flavonoid has been shown to enhance brain ischemic tolerance in mice,but its mechanism of action remains unclear.The bilateral common carotid arteries were occluded using a micro clip to block blood flow for 10 minutes.After 10 minutes of ischemic preconditioning,200,100,and 50 mg/kg persimmon leaf flavonoid or 20 mg/kg ginaton was intragastrically administered per day for 5 days.At 1 hour after the final administration,ischemia/reperfusion models were established by blocking the middle cerebral artery for 2 hours.At 24 hours after model establishment,compared with cerebral ischemic rats without ischemic preconditioning or drug intervention,plasma endothelin,thrombomodulin and von Willebrand factor levels significantly decreased and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 expression markedly reduced in brain tissue from rats with ischemic preconditioning.Simultaneously,brain tissue injury reduced.Ischemic preconditioning combined with drug exposure noticeably improved the effects of the above-mentioned indices,and the effects of 200mg/kg persimmon leaf flavonoid were similar to 20 mg/kg ginaton treatment.These results indicate that ischemic preconditioning produces tolerance to recurrent severe cerebral ischemia.However,persimmon leaf flavonoid can elevate ischemic tolerance by reducing inflammatory reactions and vascular endothelial injury.High-dose persimmon leaf flavonoid showed an identical effect to ginaton. | Mingsan Miao Xuexia Zhang Ming Bai Linan Wang | 2013 | Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,28: | 6 |

The compositions and structures of the hybrid samples were characterized by various methods such as FT-IR, XPS, Raman,UV–Vis, wide-angle XRD and N_2 adsorption–desorption. The experimental results indicated that the hybrid materials presented a high dispersion of tungsten species and excellent catalytic activity for the removal of 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene without any organic solvent as extractant, and the sulfur removal could reach 100.0% under mild conditions.The catalytic performance on various substrates was also investigated in detail. After cycling seven cycles, the sulfur removal of the heterogeneous system still reached 93.0%. | 16 | Overexpression of a Broccoli Defensin Gene BoDFN Enhances Downy Mildew Resistance显示文摘Plant defensins are small, basic cysteine-rich peptides that play important roles in disease resistance. A gene, designated BoDFN, was isolated from Brassica oleracea var. italica. Gene sequence has been submitted to NCBI with an accession no. of HQ436486. Complete coding sequence of BoDFN is 243 bp in length encoding 80 amino acids. Sequence comparison results showed that BoDFN shared high homology with those of crucifer plants and there were only few DNA base differences. RT-PCR results indicated an increase of gene expression in Hyaloperonospora parasitica infected leaves and revealed a significant increase at 24 and 36 h of treatment. A recombinant plasmid, named pBI121-BoDFN, was constructed and introduced into Agrobacterium tumefacien LBA4404. PCR screening for 65 regenerated plantlets, 17 positive plantlets were obtained, PCR screening results revealed that 17 out of 65 regenerated plantlets were positive. Methods: The suckling mouse myocardium of primary culture were randomly divided into control group, adriamycin group and treatment group. To identify the suckling mouse myocardium, Smooth muscle actin-α(α-SMA) was monitored by immunohistochemical method. Cardiac function was evaluated by transthoracic echocardiography. The mRNA change of miRNA378, miRNA378* and calumenin m RNA were detected by quantitative real-time PCR. The expression of calumenin and GRP78 were identified by western blot. Results: Mitochondrial damage and vacuolization were found in adriamycin-induced suckling mouse myocardium compared with control group, while creatine phosphate sodium could reduce this phenomenon. Compared with the control group, the mRNA of miRNA378, miRNA378* and calumenin in adriamycin group was reduced, while creatine phosphate sodium could increase this phenomenon. The expression of calumenin and GRP78 were decreased after adriamycin treatment in suckling mouse myocardiums, creatine phosphate sodium increased the expression of calumenin and GRP78. | 18 | Pharmacological actions of miltirone in the modulation of platelet function显示文摘Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge contains various active constituents, some of which have been developed as commercially available medicine. Moreover, some other ingredients in Salvia miltiorrhiza play roles in anti-platelet activity. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects and the underlying mechanism of miltirone, a lipophilic compound of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge. The ability of miltirone to modulate platelet function was investigated by a variety of in vitro and in vivo experiments. Platelet aggregation and dense granule secretion induced by various agonists were measured with platelet aggregometer. Clot retraction and spreading were imaged by digital camera and fluorescence microscope. Ferric chloride-induced carotid injury model and pulmonary thromboembolism model were used to check miltirone antithrombotic effect in vivo. To elucidate the mechanisms of anti-platelet activity of miltirone, flow cytometry and western blotting were performed. Miltirone (2, 4, 8μM) was shown to suppress platelet aggregation, dense granule, and α granule secretion in a dose-dependent manner. Meanwhile, miltirone inhibited the clot retraction and spreading of washed platelets. It reduced the phosphorylation of PLCγ2, PKC, Akt, GSK3β and ERK1/2 in the downstream signal pathway of collagen receptor. It also reduced the phosphorylation of Src and FAK in the integrin αIIbβ3-mediated “outside-in” signaling, while it did not suppress the phosphorylation of β3. In addition, miltirone prolonged the occlusion time and reduced collagen/epinephrine-induced pulmonary thrombi. Miltirone suppresses platelet “inside-out” and “outside-in” signaling by affecting PLCγ2/PKC/ERK1/2, PI3K/Akt, and Src/FAK signaling. | 19 | Cognitive magnetic resonance imaging-ultrasound fusion transperineal targeted biopsy combined with randomized biopsy in detection of prostate cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND Prostate cancer(PCa)is one of the most common cancers among men.Various strategies for targeted biopsy based on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging(mp-MRI)have emerged,which may improve the accuracy of detecting clinically significant PCa in recent years.AIM To investigate the diagnostic efficiency of a template for cognitive MRIultrasound fusion transperineal targeted plus randomized biopsy in detecting PCa.METHODS Data from patients with an increasing prostate-specific antigen(PSA)level but less than 20 ng/mL and at least one lesion suspicious for PCa on MRI from December 2015 to June 2018 were retrospectively analyzed.All patients underwent cognitive fusion transperineal template-guided targeted biopsy followed by randomized biopsy outside the targeted area.A total of 127 patients with complete data were included in the final analysis.A multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted,and a two-sided P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.RESULTS PCa was detected in 66 of 127 patients,and 56 cases presented clinically significant PCa.Cognitive fusion targeted biopsy alone detected 59/127 cases of PCa,specifically 52/59 cases with clinically significant PCa and 7/59 cases with clinically insignificant PCa.A randomized biopsy detected seven cases of PCa negative on targeted biopsy,and four cases had clinically significant PCa.PSA density(OR:1.008,95%CI:1.003-1.012,P=0.001;OR:1.006,95%CI:1.002-1.010,P=0.004)and Prostate Imaging-Reporting and Data System(PI-RADS)scores(both P<0.001)were independently associated with the results of cognitive fusion targeted biopsy combined with randomized biopsy and targeted biopsy alone.CONCLUSION This single-centered study proposed a feasible template for cognitive MRIultrasound fusion transperineal targeted plus randomized biopsy.Patients with higher PSAD and PI-RADS scores were more likely to be diagnosed with PCa. | Cheng Pang Miao Wang Hui-Min Hou Jian-Yong Liu Zhi-Peng Zhang Xuan Wang Ya-Qun Zhang Chun-Mei Li Wei Zhang Jian-Ye Wang Ming Liu | 2021 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,36: | 3 |
| 20 | Environmental indicators from comparison of sporopollen in early Pleistocene lacustrine sediments from different climatic zones显示文摘Two lacustrine sporopollen records obtained from the Qaidam Basin (in the non-monsoonal region) and the Linxia Basin (in the monsoonal transition zone) indicate that during the early Pleistocene open forest-steppe/steppe vegetation developed in the Qaidam Basin, while in the Linxia Basin an open cypress forest-steppe shifted to a conifer/conifer-steppe and then to open forest-steppe vegetation. Existing sporopollen records from the Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) (in the monsoonal region) indicate that around the Sanmen Paleolake open forest-steppe shifted to pine/conifer-broadleaved mixed forest. The conifer cover then changed to a subtropical evergreen broadleaved forest distributed around the Nihewan Paleolake.
