1Viral respiratory infections among Hajj pilgrims in 2013显示文摘Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus(MERS-Co V) has emerged in the Arabian Gulf region, with its epicentre in Saudi Arabia, the host of the ‘Hajj' which is the world's the largest mass gathering. Transmission of MERS-Co V at such an event could lead to its rapid worldwide dissemination. Therefore, we studied the frequency of viruses causing influenza-like illnesses(ILI) among participants in a randomised controlled trial at the Hajj 2013. We recruited 1038 pilgrims from Saudi Arabia, Australia and Qatar during the first day of Hajj and followed them closely for four days. A nasal swab was collected from each pilgrim who developed ILI. Respiratory viruses were detected using multiplex RT-PCR. ILI occurred in 112/1038(11%) pilgrims. Their mean age was 35 years, 49(44%) were male and 35(31%) had received the influenza vaccine pre-Hajj. Forty two(38%) pilgrims had laboratory-confirmed viral infections; 28(25%) rhinovirus, 5(4%) influenza A, 2(2%) adenovirus, 2(2%) human coronavirus OC43/229 E, 2(2%) parainfluenza virus 3, 1(1%) parainfluenza virus 1, and 2(2%) dual infections. No MERS-Co V was detected in any sample. Rhinovirus was the commonest cause of ILI among Hajj pilgrims in 2013. 2Articulating CO_(2)emissions limiting roles of nuclear energy and ICT under the EKC hypothesis:An application of non-parametric MMQR approach显示文摘Limiting toxic elements from being exposed to the world’s atmosphere has been the biggest challenge among environmental researchers and stakeholders.Climate change conferences have been counselling the global economies to take serious steps toward profound decarbonization to keep the universal temperature below 1.5C.In this context,the direction of environmental research has changed,and researchers are more focused on tracing how to limit pollution and keep it below the threshold level.In this milieu,nuclear energy can make a big difference along with other alternatives to fossil energy.Therefore,we extend the extant literature by exploring the dynamic effects of atomic energy and ICT on carbon emissions(CO_(2))for top nuclear energy countries using data from 1990 to 2017.To obtain robust findings,we deploy a novel non-parametric econometric approach(i.e.,method of moments quantile regression).The results suggest that nuclear energy is a sustainable alternative to historical fossil fuel as it curbs CO_(2)emissions in the lower,middle,and upper quantiles.Furthermore,our findings corroborate that ICT penetration through the internet,mobile and telephone plays a vital role in improving environmental quality.Moreover,we unveil that linear economic growth jeopardizes the environment by unleashing harmful gases.The findings also support the existence of the Environmental Kuznets Curve(EKC)hypothesis by confirming the negative association between the polynomial economic growth(squared-GDP)and CO_(2)emissions among the designated nations.Also,the Granger causality test reaffirms the causal nexus among selected series that runs from nuclear energy and technological innovation to CO_(2)emissions,indicating that any policy shock in both series leads to environmental degradation.We,therefore,advocate that the designated territories keep enriching their energy baskets with nuclear energy and boost ICT penetration to achieve a 100%decoupling of economic growth from pollution.Atif Jahanger Umer Zaman Mohammad Razib Hossain Ashar Awan 2023Geoscience Frontiers2023,14,5:1

4Fully inkjet-printed microwave passive electronics显示文摘Fully inkjet-printed three-dimensional(3D)objects with integrated metal provide exciting possibilities for on-demand fabrication of radio frequency electronics such as inductors,capacitors,and filters.To date,there have been several reports of printed radio frequency components metallized via the use of plating solutions,sputtering,and low-conductivity pastes.These metallization techniques require rather complex fabrication,and do not provide an easily integrated or versatile process.This work utilizes a novel silver ink cured with a low-cost infrared lamp at only 80℃,and achieves a high conductivity of 1×10^(7) S m^(−1).By inkjet printing the infrared-cured silver together with a commercial 3D inkjet ultraviolet-cured acrylic dielectric,a multilayer process is demonstrated.By using a smoothing technique,both the conductive ink and dielectric provide surface roughness values of <500 nm.A radio frequency inductor and capacitor exhibit state-of-the-art quality factors of 8 and 20,respectively,and match well with electromagnetic simulations.These components are implemented in a lumped element radio frequency filter with an impressive insertion loss of 0.8 dB at 1 GHz,proving the utility of the process for sensitive radio frequency applications.Garret McKerricher Mohammad Vaseem Atif Shamim 2017Microsystems & Nanoengineering2017,3,1:1

6Flexible and reconfigurable radio frequency electronics realized by high-throughput screen printing of vanadium dioxide switches显示文摘Smart materials that can change their properties based on an applied stimulus are in high demand due to their suitability for reconfigurable electronics,such as tunable filters or antennas.In particular,materials that undergo a metal–insulator transition(MIT),for example,vanadium dioxide(VO 2)(M),are highly attractive due to their tunable electrical and optical properties at a low transition temperature of 68°C.Although deposition of this material on a limited scale has been demonstrated through vacuum-based fabrication methods,its scalable application for large-area and high-volume processes is still challenging.Screen printing can be a viable option because of its high-throughput fabrication process on flexible substrates.In this work,we synthesize high-purity VO 2(M)microparticles and develop a screen-printable VO 2 ink,enabling the large-area and high-resolution printing of VO 2 switches on various substrates.The electrical properties of screen-printed VO 2 switches at the microscale are thoroughly investigated under both thermal and electrical stimuli,and the switches exhibit a low ON resistance of 1.8 ohms and an ON/OFF ratio of more than 300.The electrical performance of the printed switches does not degrade even after multiple bending cycles and for bending radii as small as 1mm.As a proof of concept,a fully printed and mechanically flexible band-pass filter is demonstrated that utilizes these printed switches as reconfigurable elements.Based on the ON and OFF conditions of the VO 2 switches,the filter can reconfigure its operating frequency from 3.95 to 3.77 GHz without any degradation in performance during bending.Weiwei Li Mohammad Vaseem Shuai Yang Atif Shamim 2020Microsystems & Nanoengineering2020,6,1:1
