| 1 | Biochemical and cellular evidence of the benefit of a combination of cerium oxide nanoparticles and selenium to diabetic rats显示文摘AIM: To study the combinative effects of nanocerium and selenium in a murine model of diabetes. METHODS: Cerium oxide (CeO2) nanoparticles (60 mg/kg per day) and sodium selenite (5 μmol/kg per day) aloneor in combination, or the metal form of CeO2 (60 mg/kg) were administered for 2 wk by intraperitoneal injection to streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. At the end of treatment blood was collected, liver tissue dissected and then oxidative stress markers, extent of energy depletion and lipid prof ile were evaluated.RESULTS: Antioxidant enzymes and high density lipoprotein decreased whereas oxidative stress, adenosine diphosphate/adenosine triphospahte levels, cholesterol, triglyceride and low density lipoprotein increased on induction of diabetes. All were improved by a combination of nanocerium and sodium selenite. There was a relative amelioration by CeO2 nanoparticles or sodium selenite alone, but the metal form of CeO2 showed no signif icant improvement. | 2 | Investigation on the Local Scour Beneath Piggyback Pipelines Under Clear-Water Conditions显示文摘A piggyback pipeline consists of two pipes such that the secondary line rides on the main pipe with a fixed distance between two pipes in length.The novel strategy is utilized in offshore areas instead of a single flow line.In this regard,there are only a handful of experimental and numerical studies investigating the effect of scour below a piggyback pipeline under steady current.Hence,this study focuses on examining the influential factors on scouring due to steady current including the pipe diameter and the gap between pipes through numerical simulations and experimental tests.Accordingly,at the first phase of the research,a single pipe was established and tested in laboratory to compare the results with those of an empirical equation.After finishing experimental verifications,piggyback pipelines were also assembled to study the scouring under steady current conditions.It was concluded that by increasing the gap distance between the pipes,the maximum scour depth decreases;however,an increase in the small pipe’s diameter results in a larger maximum scour depth.Secondly,numerical simulations were carried out using the FLOW-3D software which was found to be a suitable tool for the numerical investigation of this study.Finally,the numerical results have been compared with the corresponding experimental data and a relatively good agreement was achieved between them. | Sahar ASRARI Habib HAKIMZADEH Nazila KARDAN | 2021 | China Ocean Engineering2021,35,3: | 1 |

| 13 | Which form of collagen is suitable for nerve cell culture?显示文摘In this study, we investigated the effects of hydrolyzed and non-hydrolyzed collagen and two-dimensional and three-dimensional collagen matrices on cell survival, attachment and neurite outgrowth of primary cultured nerve cells using 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) colorimetric assay and inverted microscopy. Hydrolyzed collagen facilitated nerve cell survival and neurite outgrowth, but it had no obvious influences on cell attachment. In contrast, non-hydrolyzed two-dimensional collagen matrix had no obvious effects on neurite outgrowth. | 14 | Evapotranspiration estimation using SEBAL algorithm integrated with remote sensing and experimental methods显示文摘Evapotranspiration is one of the most important elements of the hydrological cycle.Estimation of evapotranspiration is imperative for effective forest,irrigation,rangeland and water resources management as well as to increase yields and for better crop management.This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land(SEBAL)in estimating evapotranspiration and crop coefficient of corn in the Mediterranean region of Adana province,Turkey.The Landsat 8 satellite images from March to September 2018 were used to acquire the coefficients of the respective bands.Then,the net radiation flux on the earth’s surface and the earth’s heat flux is obtained using incoming-outgoing radiation fluxes from albedo,surface emissivity coefficients,land surface temperature,and plant indicators.Next,the sensible heat flux is calculated by determining the hot and cold pixels under consideration via the atmospheric stability conditions.Finally,evapotranspiration maps are plotted.The crop coefficient of corn is also estimated with the respected maps being plotted.To validate the outcomes from the SEBAL algorithm,experimental methods were employed to calculate the evapotranspiration values and evaluated using suitable performance metrics.The results showed that the SEBAL generated evapotranspiration values are in high agreement with the FAO Penman-Monteith method registering the highest correlation(R=0.91)and the lowest error(RMSE=1.14).In addition,the SEBAL method registered the highest correlation values of 0.89,0.87 and 0.68 with Turk,Makkink and Hargreaves experimental methods,respectively.Moreover,the crop coefficients estimated using SEBAL also manifested an acceptable correlation with all methods.The highest correlation value registered was with the FAO Penman-Monteith method(R=0.98).The outcomes show that since the performance of the SEBAL algorithm in estimating the actual evapotranspiration and crop coefficient using Landsat 8 satellite images is acceptable,the SEBAL algorithm could be a very convenient method.Moreover,it could easily be assimilated into farming management systems and precision agriculture for better decision-making and higher yield. | Nazila Shamloo Mohammad Taghi Sattari Halit Apaydin Khalil Valizadeh Kamran Ramendra Prasad | 2021 | International Journal of Digital Earth2021,14,11: | 0 |
| 15 | Assessment of compatibility of rhlGF-1/rhlGFBP-3 with neonatal intravenous medications显示文摘Background Recombinant human(rh)IGF-1/IGFBP-3 protein complex,administered as a continuous intravenous infusion in preterm infants,is being studied for the prevention of complications of prematurity.Methods We conducted in vitro studies to evaluate the physical and chemical compatibility of rhIGF-1/IGFBP-3 with medications routinely administered to preterm neonates.In vitro mixing of rhIGF-1/IGFBP-3 drug product with small-molecule test medications plus corresponding controls was performed.Physical compatibility was defined as no color change,precipitation,turbidity,gas evolution,no clinically relevant change in pH/osmolality or loss in medication content.Chemical compatibility of small molecules was assessed using liquid chromatography(e.g.,reverse-phase HPLC and ion chromatography),with incompatibility defined as loss of concentration of≥10%.A risk evaluation was conducted for each medication based on in vitro compatibility data and potential for chemical modification.Results In vitro physical compatibility was established for 11/19 medications:caffeine citrate,fentanyl,fluconazole,gen-tamicin,insulin,intravenous fat emulsion,midazolam,morphine sulfate,custom-mixed parenteral nutrition solution(with/without electrolytes),parenteral nutrition solution+intravenous fat emulsion,and vancomycin(dosed from a 5 mg/mL solu-tion),but not for 8/19 medications:amikacin,ampicillin,dopamine,dobutamine,furosemide,meropenem,norepinephrine,and penicillin G,largely owing to changes in pH after mixing.Small-molecule compatibility was unaffected post-mixing,with no loss of small-molecule content.For physically compatible medications,risk analyses confirmed low probability and severity of a risk event.Conclusion Co-administration of rhIGF-1/rhIGFBP-3 drug product with various medications was assessed by in vitro studies using case-by-case risk analyses to determine the suitability of the products for co-administration. | Nazila Salamat-Miller Mark A.Turner Amey Bandekar Nitin Dixit Emily Jochim Barry Mangum Christopher McPherson Srini Tenjarla Sukhjeet Singh You Seok Hwang Norman Barton | 2023 | World Journal of Pediatrics2023,19,1: | 0 |
| 16 | Cloning and expression of Neisseria meningitides luxS gene显示文摘Neisseria meningitides is a Gram-negative bacterium which is an important causative agent of septicemia and meningitis.Numerous pathogenic bacteria contain luxS,which is required for autoinducer-2 production.Neisseria meningitides contains a functional copy of luxS that is necessary for full meningococcal virulence.Neisseria meningitides DNA was extracted and its luxS gene was amplified by nested PCR.PCR product was purified and cloned in to pQE-30 expression vector.Recombinant plasmid was transformed and mass cultured.luxS was expressed in E.coli and confirmed by western blot analysis.In this study,N.meningitides luxS was amplified, cloned and expressed successfully.The sequencing of PCR product confirmed that amplified gene was luxS.
