1Orbital-scale Asian summer monsoon variations:Paradox and exploration显示文摘The Asian summer monsoon(ASM) is a vast climate system, whose variability is critical to the livelihoods of billions of people across the Asian continent. During the past half-century, much progress has been made in understanding variations on a wide range of timescales, yet several significant issues remain unresolved. Of note are two long-standing problems concerning orbital-scale variations of the ASM.(1) Chinese loess magnetic susceptibility records show a persistent glacial-interglacial dominated ~100 kyr(thousand years) periodicity, while the cave oxygen-isotope(δ18 O) records reveal periodicity in an almost pure precession band(~20 kyr periodicity)—the 'Chinese 100 kyr problem'.(2) ASM records from the Arabian Sea and other oceans surrounding the Asian continent show a significant lag of 8–10 kyr to Northern Hemisphere summer insolation(NHSI), whereas the Asian cave δ18 O records follow NHSI without a significant lag—a discrepancy termed the 'sea-land precession-phase paradox'. How can we reconcile these differences? Recent and more refined model simulations now provide spatial patterns of rainfall and wind across the precession cycle, revealing distinct regional divergences in the ASM domain, which can well explain a large portion of the disparities between the loess, marine, and cave proxy records. Overall, we also find that the loess, marine, and cave records are indeed complementary rather than incompatible, with each record preferentially describing a certain aspect of ASM dynamics. 4Identification and Characterization of a Novel Single Domain Antibody Against Ebola Virus显示文摘Ebola virus(EBOV) belongs to the Filoviridae family and causes severe illnesses such as hemorrhagic fever with a high mortality rate up to 90%. Now two antibody drugs termed Inmazeb and Ebanga have been approved for treating EBOV infection. However, clinical studies have demonstrated that the mortality rate of the patients who received these two antibody drugs remains above 30%. Therefore, novel therapeutics with better efficacy is still desired. The isolated human IgG1 constant domain 2(CH2 domain) has been proposed as a scaffold for the development of C-based single domain antibodies(C-sd Abs) as therapeutic candidates against viral infections and other diseases. Here, we screened and identified a novel C-sd Ab termed M24 that targets EBOV glycoprotein(GP) from a C-sd Ab phage display library. M24 neutralizes the pseudotype EBOV with IC;of 0.8 nmol/L(12 ng/mL) and has modest neutralizing activity against authentic EBOV.Epitope determination, including molecular docking and site mutation analysis, discloses that M24 binds to the internal fusion loop(IFL) within GP2, a transmembrane subunit of GP. Interestingly, we found that the binding of M24 to GP at pH5.5 has dramatically decreased compared to the binding at pH 7.5, which may lead to weak efficacy in the neutralization of authentic EBOV. 5An Overview of Organs-on-Chips Based on Deep Learning显示文摘Microfluidic-based organs-on-chips(OoCs)are a rapidly developing technology in biomedical and chemical research and have emerged as one of the most advanced and promising in vitro models.The miniaturization,stimulated tissue mechanical forces.and microenvironment of OoCs offer unique properties for biomedical applications.However,the large amount of data generated by the high parallelization of OoC systems has grown far beyond the scope of manual analysis by researchers with biomedical backgrounds.Deep learning,an emerging area of research in the field of machine learning,can automatically mine the inherent characteristics and laws of'big data'and has achieved remarkable applications in computer vision,speech recognition,and natural language processing.The integration of deep learning in OoCs is an emerging field that holds enormous potential for drug development,disease modeling,and personalized medicine.This review bricfly describes the basic concepts and mechanisms of microfluidics and deep learning and summarizes their successful integration.We then analyze thecombination of OoCs and deep learning for image digitization,data analysis,and automation.Finally,the problems faced in current applications are discussed,and future perspectives and suggestions are provided to further strengthen this integration.Jintao Li Jie Chen Hua Bai Haiwei Wang Shiping Hao Yang Ding Bo Peng Jing Zhang Lin Li Wei Huang 2022Research2022,,2:1

7Spatiotemporal Distribution of Asian Horseshoe Crab Eggs Are Highly Intermingled with Anthropogenic Structures in Northern Beibu Gulf,China显示文摘Identification,protection and restoration of spawning habitats are vital for protecting the depleted species.Asian horseshoe crabs are ecologically important macroinvertebrates in coastal and estuarine ecosystems.However,their spawning habitat studies were limited to several reports in tropical regions,possibly due to the lack of modified survey methods,particularly in habitats with a lower density of spawning adults,and/or intermingled with anthropogenic structures.In this study,the year-round egg distribution and spawning habitat baselines of Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda and Tachypleus tridentatus were determined in the northern Beibu Gulf,China.Our findings demonstrated that the peak spawning occurred in June–July and ceased in November–January when the average water temperature dropped below 20℃.Egg aggregations were found<10 cm beneath the sediment surface with regular tidal inundation,regardless of seasonal changes,in the vicinity of natural and artificial structures with elevated,mildly sloping substratum within the high tide zones.The nests were characterized by medium-sized sediment grains(0.5–0.9 mm),high temperatures(31–34℃),low water contents(0.8%–0.9%),and total organic carbon contents(0.5%–0.7%),which might maximize the hatching success.The identified nesting beaches were close to nursery habitats for juveniles,and tidal creeks were present as the possible corridor connecting these two important habitats through the dominant mangrove forests.The findings provide valuable insights in the scope of spawning behavior and nest-site selection of Asian horseshoe crabs under a mixture of natural and artificial structures,which could benefit future management efforts for the exploited spawning populations.KWAN Kit Yue FU Yijian ZHONG Mufeng KUANG Yang BAI Haiwei ZHANG Ce ZHEN Wenquan XU Peng WANG Chun-Chieh ZHU Junhua 2022Journal of Ocean University of China2022,21,3:1
8Impacts of Sulfur and Microalgae Co-fertilization on Saline-alkaline Soil of Sunflower Field in Hetao Irrigation District显示文摘[Objectives]To evaluate the impacts of the elemental sulfur(S 0)and micro-algae(MA)co-fertilization on saline-alkaline soil of sunflower field in the Hetao Irrigation District(HID).[Methods]The greenhouse pot experiment was conducted with four treatments:control(CK),single S 0 fertilization(S),single MA fertilization(A),and S 0 and MA co-fertilization(SA)for comparing the selected soil properties and sunflower plant heights and weights in different treatments.[Results]The results showed that the mean soil organic matter(SOM)under the SA(25.08 g/kg)was significantly higher than that for the CK(20.59 g/kg),S(22.47 g/kg),and A(22.95 g/kg).The mean pH under the SA(7.75)was significantly lower than that for the CK(8.14),S(7.82),and A(7.96).The mean soil exchangeable Na+concentration under the SA was significantly lower than that for the S.The mean soil electrical conductivity(EC)under the SA was 9.76%lower than that for the S.The means of Cl-(1.22 g/kg)and SO 2-4(1.90 g/kg)in soil under the SA were lower than that for the S(1.30,2.06 g/kg)and A(1.31,1.97 g/kg),respectively.For plant height 3 at the late stage of plant growth,the mean plant height 3 under the SA(89.00 cm)was higher than that of the CK(69.60 cm)and A(74.33 cm).The total weights of the fresh sunflower heads,fresh stems,and dry seeds under the SA were higher than that for the CK,S,and A.[Conclusions]In conclusion,the S 0 and MA co-fertilization had positive effects on improving saline-alkaline soils,the soil under the S 0 and MA co-fertilization could be better conditions for promoting sunflower growth than that for the S,Z,and CK,and thereby the S 0 and MA co-fertilization could be a new idea to improve saline-alkaline soil in the cold and arid regions.Ruimin DONG Liming LAI Peng ZHANG Yanxiong ZHAO Yang YANG Haiwei WANG Man WANG Yuelong DONG 2023Asian Agricultural Research2023,15,3:0

10Microwave awakening the n-π^(*) electronic transition in highly crystalline polymeric carbon nitride nanosheets for photocatalytic hydrogen generation显示文摘The n-π^(*) electronic transition in polymeric carbon nitride(PCN)can remarkably harvest visible light,which thus potentially promotes the photocatalytic hydrogen H2 generation.However,awaking the n-π^(*) lectronic transition has proven to be a grand challenge.Herein,we reported on the awakening of n-π^(*) electronic transition by microwave thermolysis of urea pellet,which yielded the PCN with absorption edge of 600 nm,near 140 nm red-shift from 460 nm of pristine PCN.The n-π^(*) electronic transition endows PCN with an increased photocata lytic H_(2) generation,with a highest H_(2) rate of 61.7μmol h^(-1) under visible light exposure,which is near 6 times higher than that by using the PCN from the thermolysis of urea pellets in an electric furnace(10.6μmol h^(-1)).Furthermore,the n-π^(*) transition in PCN leads to the longest wavelength of 535 nm that can initiate H2 generation,remarkably longer than the absorption edge of pristine PCN(460 nm).This work manifests the advantages of microwave sintering route to awaken the n-π^(*) electronic transition in PCN for an increased photocata lytic performance.Xiangang Lin Haiwei Du Daochuan Jiang Peng Zhang Zhiwu Yu Hong Bi Yupeng Yuan 2022Journal of Energy Chemistry2022,31,2:0
