| 1 | Environmental connections of novel avian-origin H7N9 influenza virus infection and virus adaptation to the human显示文摘A novel H7N9 influenza A virus has been discovered as the causative identity of the emerging acute respiratory infection cases in Shanghai,China. This virus has also been identified in cases of infection in the neighboring area Hangzhou City in Zhejiang Province. In this study, epidemiologic, clinical, and virological data from three patients in Hangzhou who were confirmed to be infected by the novel H7N9 influenza A virus were collected and analyzed.Human respiratory specimens and chicken feces from a contacted free market were tested for influenza virus by real-time reverse transcription PCR(RT-PCR) and sequencing. The clinical features of the three cases were similar featured with high fever and severe respiratory symptoms;however, only one of the patients died.A certain degree of diversity was observed among the three Hangzhou viruses sequenced from human samples compared with other reported H7N9 influenza A viruses. The sequences of the novel avian-origin H7N9 influenza viruses from Hangzhou City contained important amino acid substitutions related to human adaptation. One of the Hangzhou viruses had gained a novel amino acid substitution(Q226I) in the receptor binding region of hemagglutinin.More importantly, the virus sequenced from the chicken feces had a 627E substitution in the PB2 protein instead of the mammalian-adapted 627K substitution that was found in the PB2 proteins from the Hangzhou viruses from the three patients. Therefore, the newly-emerging H7N9 virus might be under adaptation pressure that will help it 'jump' from avian to human hosts. The significance of these substitutions needs further exploration, with both laboratory experiments and extensive field surveillance. | LI Jun YU XinFen PU XiaoYing XIE Li SUN YongXiang XIAO HaiXia WANG FenJuan DIN Hua WU Ying LIU Di ZHAO GuoQiu LIU Jun PAN JingCao | 2013 | Science China(Life Sciences)2013,56,6: | 32 |
| 2 | Elemental Content in Brown Rice by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy Reveals the Evolution of Asian Cultivated Rice显示文摘The phylogenetic relationship for classification traits and eight mineral elements in brown rice(Oryza sativa L.) from Yunnan Province in China was carried out using microwave assisted digestion followed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy, and the analytical procedures were carefully controlled and validated. In general, the results show that the mean levels of K,Ca,Mg,Fe and Cu in brown rice for 789 accessions of rice landraces was distinctly lower than that of improved cultivars. They further demonstrate that Ca plays an important role in the differentiation of subspecies indica-japonica,especially to enhance adaptation of cold stress, and that five mineral elements in brown rice enhance the eurytopicity from landrace to improved cultivar.Hierarchical cluster analysis, using average linkage from SPSS software based on eight mineral elements in brown rice, showed that Yunnan rice could be grouped into rice landrace and improved cultivar, with the rice landrace being further clustered into five subgroups, and that, interestingly, purple rice does not cluster with either of the groups. Our present data confirm that indica is the closest relative of late rice and white rice, and that they constitute rice landraces together, whereas japonica is the closest relatives of non-nuda,early-mid and glutinous rice.It is further shown that japonica,non-nuda,early-mid,glutinous,white and red rice might be more primitive than indica,nuda,late,non-glutinous and purple rice, respectively. | Yawen Zeng Luxiang Wang Juan Du Jiafu Liu Shuming Yang Xiaoying Pu Fenghui Xiao | 2009 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2009,51,5: | 4 |
| 3 | An efficient papaya leaf distortion mosaic potyvirus vector for virus-induced gene silencing in papaya显示文摘Papaya(Carica papaya L.)is regarded as an excellent model for genomic studies of tropical trees because of its short generation time and its small genome that has been sequenced. However, functional genomic studies in papaya depend on laborious genetic transformations because no rapid tools exist for this species. Here,we developed a highly efficient virus-induced gene silencing(VIGS)vector for use in papaya by modifying an artificially attenuated infectious clone of papaya leaf distortion mosaic virus(PLDMV;genus:Potyvirus),PLDMV-E,into a stable Nimble Cloning(NC)-based PLDMV vector,pPLDMV-NC,in Escherichia coli. The target fragments for gene silencing can easily be cloned into pPLDMV-NC without multiple digestion and ligation steps.Using this PLDMV VIGS system,we silenced and characterized five endogenous genes in papaya, including two common VIGS marker genes, namely, phytoene desaturase,Mg-chelatase H subunit, putative GIBBERELLIN(GA)-INSENSITIVE DWARF1A and 1B encoding GA receptors;and the cytochrome P450 gene CYP83B1,which encodes a key enzyme involved in benzylglucosinolate biosynthesis. The results demonstrate that our newly developed PLDMV VIGS vector is a rapid and convenient tool for functional genomic studies in papaya. | Decai Tuo Pu Yan Guangyuan Zhao Hongguang Cui Guopeng Zhu Yang Liu Xiukun Yang He Wang Xiaoying Li Wentao Shen Peng Zhou | 2021 | Horticulture Research2021,8,1: | 2 |

| 5 | Even-odd-dependent optical transitions of zigzag monolayer black phosphorus nanoribbons显示文摘We analytically study the electronic structure and optical properties of zigzag-edged phosphorene nanoribbons(ZPNRs) using the tight-binding Hamiltonian and Kubo formula. By directly solving the discrete Schrodinger equation, we obtain the energy spectra and wavefunctions for N-ZPNR(where N is the number of transverse zigzag atomic chains) and classify the eigenstates according to the lattice symmetry. Then, we obtain the optical transition selection rule of ZPNRs on the basis of symmetry analysis and analytical expressions of optical transition matrix elements. Under incident light that is linearly polarized along the ribbon, we determine that the optical transition selection rule for N-ZPNR with even-or odd-N is qualitatively different. Specifically, for even-N ZPNRs, the inter-(intra-) band selection rule is ?n =odd(even) because the parity of the wavefunction corresponding to the n-th subband in the conduction(valence) band is(-1)~n[(-1)~((n+1))] owing to the presence of C(2x) symmetry. However, the optical transitions between any subbands are possible owing to the absence of C(2x) symmetry. Our results provide a further understanding on the electronic states and optical properties of ZPNRs, which are useful for explaining the optical experiment data on ZPNR samples. | Pu Liu XianZhe Zhu XiaoYing Zhou GuangHui Zhou Kai Chang | 2021 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2021,64,1: | 1 |
