1Strategies to minimize hypertrophy in cartilage engineering and regeneration显示文摘Due to a blood supply shortage,articular cartilage has a limited capacity for selfhealing once damaged.Articular chondrocytes,cartilage progenitor cells,embryonic stem cells,and mesenchymal stem cells are candidate cells for cartilage regeneration.Significant current attention is paid to improving chondrogenic differentiation capacity;unfortunately,the potential chondrogenic hypertrophy of differentiated cells is largely overlooked.Consequently,the engineered tissue is actually a transient cartilage rather than a permanent one.The development of hypertrophic cartilage ends with the onset of endochondral bone formation which has inferior mechanical properties.In this review,current strategies for inhibition of chondrogenic hypertrophy are comprehensively summarized;the impact of cell source options is discussed;and potential mechanisms underlying these strategies are also categorized.This paper aims to provide guidelines for the prevention of hypertrophy in the regeneration of cartilage tissue.This knowledge may also facilitate the retardation of osteophytes in the treatment of osteoarthritis.Song Chen Peiliang Fu Ruijun Cong HaiShan Wu Ming Pei 2015Genes & Diseases2015,2,1:11
2The Impact of Meso-Scale Eddies on the Subtropical Mode Water in the Western North Pacific显示文摘Based on the temperature and salinity from the Argo profiling floats and altimeter-derived geostrophic velocity anomaly (GVA) data in the western North Pacific during 2002-2011, the North Pacific Subtropical Mode Water (NPSTMW) distribution is investigated and cyclonic and anti-cyclonic eddies (CEs and AEs) are constructed to study the influence of their vertical structures on maintaining NPSTMW. Combining eddies identified by the GVA data and Argo profiling float data, it is found that the average NPSTMW thickness of AEs is about 60 dbar, which is thicker than that of CEs. The NPSTMW thicker than 150 dbar in AEs accounts for 18%, whereas that in CEs accounts for only 1%. About 3377 (3517) profiles, which located within one diameter of the nearest CEs (AEs) are used to construct the CE (AE). The composite AE traps low-PV water in the center and with a convex shape in the vertical section. The 'trapped depth' of the composite CE (AE) is 300 m (550 m) where the rotational velocity exceeds the transitional velocity. 3Advances in geopolymer materials: A comprehensive review显示文摘Geopolymer is a new environment-friendly cementitious material, and the development of geopolymer can reduce the carbon dioxide emission caused by the development of cement industry. Geopolymer materials not only have excellent mechanical properties, but also have a series of excellent properties such as fire resistance and corrosion resistance. Most industrial solid waste and waste incineration bottom ash are piled up at will, which not only occupies land resources, but also has a bad impact on the environment. Recycling them can be used as raw materials for preparing geopolymers. Geopolymer materials can effectively adsorb heavy metals, dyes, and other radioactive pollution, which is very beneficial to society's future development. However, due to the excellent properties of geopolymer materials, its application goes beyond that. Some useful information about geopolymer materials was introduced in this paper. The paper included the geopolymerization, the source of raw materials, the types of activators, the preparation methods, and the different application fields of geopolymer materials. The factors affecting the fresh properties and mechanical properties of geopolymer materials were discussed. 4Seasonal variability in dissolved oxygen in the Bohai Sea,China显示文摘Deoxygenation has frequently appeared in coastal ecosystems over the past century due to the joint infl uence of increasing anthropogenically induced nutrient inputs and global warming.The semi-enclosed Bohai Sea is a typical system that is prone to deoxygenation,with regular hypoxia events consistently recorded in recent decades.Based on in-situ observation data collected in large-scale voyage surveys in the Bohai Sea during 2008-2017,the seasonal variability in dissolved oxygen(DO)and its controlling mechanisms were studied.The results indicated that in spring and autumn,the DO distributions exhibited similar spatial patterns in the surface and bottom layers,while in summer,its spatial distribution was characterized by large-scale oxygen-poor zones distributed off the Qinhuangdao Coast and the central southern Bohai Sea in the bottom layer.The controlling mechanisms of the DO distribution varied from season to season.Spring and autumn DO distributions were dominated by the seawater temperature.Under the combined eff ects of stratifi cation and decomposition,the summer bottom DO exhibited dual-core distribution.On the one hand,stratifi cation could greatly impede vertical mixing,resulting in reduced bottom DO replenishment.On the other hand,the increased bottom organic matter intensifi ed the decomposition processes,inducing massive DO consumption and elevated dissolved inorganic nitrogen concentrations.In addition,the stronger stratifi cation might be the reason for the more severe deoxygenation in the southern oxygen-poor zones in summer.Our study provides guidance for an in-depth understanding of the DO seasonality in the Bohai Sea and the mechanisms that modulate it and for the improvement of hypoxia forecasts in ocean models.Yaozu CHEN Fangguo ZHAI Yanzhen GU Jing CAO Cong LIU Xingchuan LIU Zizhou LIU Peiliang LI 2022Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2022,40,1:2
