1Current Status and Future Challenges of Weather Radar Polarimetry: Bridging the Gap between Radar Meteorology/Hydrology/Engineering and Numerical Weather Prediction显示文摘After decades of research and development, the WSR-88 D(NEXRAD) network in the United States was upgraded with dual-polarization capability, providing polarimetric radar data(PRD) that have the potential to improve weather observations,quantification, forecasting, and warnings. The weather radar networks in China and other countries are also being upgraded with dual-polarization capability. Now, with radar polarimetry technology having matured, and PRD available both nationally and globally, it is important to understand the current status and future challenges and opportunities. The potential impact of PRD has been limited by their oftentimes subjective and empirical use. More importantly, the community has not begun to regularly derive from PRD the state parameters, such as water mixing ratios and number concentrations, used in numerical weather prediction(NWP) models.In this review, we summarize the current status of weather radar polarimetry, discuss the issues and limitations of PRD usage, and explore potential approaches to more efficiently use PRD for quantitative precipitation estimation and forecasting based on statistical retrieval with physical constraints where prior information is used and observation error is included. This approach aligns the observation-based retrievals favored by the radar meteorology community with the model-based analysis of the NWP community. 2Big Data Thinking and Its Biomedical Application显示文摘Big data thinking gradually rise with the coming era of big data. Big data characteristics could be summarized with 4V: volume, variety, velocity and value. The characteristics of big data thinking could be summed up in integrity, fault tolerance, correlation and intelligence. These characteristics were also the primary differences between big data thinking and small data thinking. The application of big data thinking in biomedical field became more and more widely, and the most commonly used was NCBI database. The process of mining valuable information in NCBI database was big data thinking. 3Mechanism of diarrhea in microscopic colitis显示文摘AIM: To search the pathophysiological mechanism of diarrhea based on daily stool weights, fecal electrolytes,osmotic gap and pH.METHODS: Seventy-six patients were included: 51 with microscopic colitis (MC) [40 with lymphocytic colitis (LC);11 with collagenous colitis (CC)]; 7 with MC without diarrhea and 18 as a control group (CG). They collected stool for 3 d. Sodium and potassium concentration were determined by flame photometry and chloride concentration by titration method of Schales. Fecal osmotic gap was calculated from the difference of osmolarity of fecal fluid and double sum of sodium and potassium concentration.RESULTS: Fecal fluid sodium concentration was significantly increased in LC 58.11±5.38 mmol/L (P<0.01)and CC 54.14±8.42 mmol/L (P<0.05) than in CG 34.28±2.98 mmol/L. Potassium concentration in LC 74.65±5.29 mmol/L (P<0.01) and CC 75.53±8.78 mmol/L (P<0.05) was significantly less compared to CG 92.67±2.99 mmol/L.Chloride concentration in CC 36.07±7.29 mmol/L was significantly higher than in CG 24.11±2.05 mmol/L (P<0.05).Forty-four (86.7%) patients had a secretory diarrhea compared to fecal osmotic gap. Seven (13.3%) patients had osmotic diarrhea.CONCLUSION: Diarrhea in MC mostly belongs to the secretory type. The major pathophysiological mechanism in LC could be explained by a decrease of active sodium absorption. 4What Is Semantic Communication?A View on Conveying Meaning in the Era of Machine Intelligence显示文摘In the 1940s,Claude Shannon developed the information theory focusing on quantifying the maximum data rate that can be supported by a communication channel.Guided by this fundamental work,the main theme of wireless system design up until the fifth generation(5G)was the data rate maximization.In Shannon’s theory,the semantic aspect and meaning of messages were treated as largely irrelevant to communication.The classic theory started to reveal its limitations in the modern era of machine intelligence,consisting of the synergy between Internet-of-things(IoT)and artificial intelligence(AI).By broadening the scope of the classic communication-theoretic framework,in this article,we present a view of semantic communication(SemCom)and conveying meaning through the communication systems.We address three communication modalities:human-to-human(H2H),human-to-machine(H2M),and machine-to-machine(M2M)communications.The latter two represent the paradigm shift in communication and computing,and define the main theme of this article.H2M SemCom refers to semantic techniques for conveying meanings understandable not only by humans but also by machines so that they can have interaction and“dialogue”.On the other hand,M2M SemCom refers to effective techniques for efficiently connecting multiple machines such that they can effectively execute a specific computation task in a wireless network.The first part of this article focuses on introducing the SemCom principles including encoding,layered system architecture,and two design approaches:1)layer-coupling design;and 2)end-to-end design using a neural network.The second part focuses on the discussion of specific techniques for different application areas of H2M SemCom[including human and AI symbiosis,recommendation,human sensing and care,and virtual reality(VR)/augmented reality(AR)]and M2M SemCom(including distributed learning,split inference,distributed consensus,and machine-vision cameras).Finally,we discuss the approach for designing SemCom systems based on knowledge graphs.We believe that this comprehensive introduction will provide a useful guide into the emerging area of SemCom that is expected to play an important role in sixth generation(6G)featuring connected intelligence and integrated sensing,computing,communication,and control.Qiao Lan Dingzhu Wen Zezhong Zhang Qunsong Zeng Xu Chen Petar Popovski Kaibin Huang 2021Journal of Communications and Information Networks2021,6,4:4
5Metabolically based liver damage pathophysiology in patients with urea cycle disorders-A new hypothesis显示文摘The underlying pathophysiology of liver dysfunction in urea cycle disorders(UCDs) is still largely elusive. There is some evidence that the accumulation of urea cycle(UC) intermediates are toxic for hepatocyte mitochondria. It is possible that liver injury is directly caused by the toxicity of ammonia. The rarity of UCDs, the lack of checking of iron level in these patients, superficial knowledge of UC and an underestimation of the metabolic role of fumaric acid, are the main reasons that are responsible for the incomprehension of the mechanism of liver injury in patients suffering from UCDs. Owing to our routine clinical practice to screen for iron overload in severely ill neonates, with the focus on the newborns suffering from acute liver failure, we report a case of citrullinemia with neonatal liver failure and high blood parameters of iron overload. We hypothesize that the key is in the decreased-deficient fumaric acid production in the course of UC in UCDs that causes several sequentially intertwined metabolic disturbances with final result of liver iron overload. The presented hypothesis could be easily tested by examining the patients suffering from UCDs, for liver iron overload. This could be easily performed in countries with a high population and comprehensive national register for inborn errors of metabolism. Conclusion: Providing the hypothesis is correct, neonatal liver damage in patients having UCD can be prevented by the supplementation of pregnant women with fumaric or succinic acid, prepared in the form of iron supplementation pills. 8B7 homologue 3 as a prognostic biomarker and potential therapeutic target in gastrointestinal tumors显示文摘The most common digestive system(DS)cancers,including tumors of the gastrointestinal tract(GIT)such as colorectal cancer(CRC),gastric cancer(GC)and esophageal cancer(EC)as well as tumors of DS accessory organs such as pancreatic and liver cancer,are responsible for more than one-third of all cancerrelated deaths worldwide,despite the progress that has been achieved in anticancer therapy.Due to these limitations in treatment strategies,oncological research has taken outstanding steps towards a better understanding of cancer cell biological complexity and heterogeneity.These studies led to new molecular target-driven therapeutic approaches.Different in vivo and in vitro studies have revealed significant expression of B7 homologue 3(B7-H3)among the most common cancers of the GIT,including CRC,GC,and EC,whereas B7-H3 expression in normal healthy tissue of these organs was shown to be absent or minimal.This molecule is able to influence the biological behavior of GIT tumors through the various immunological and nonimmunological molecular mechanisms,and some of them are shown to be the result of B7-H3-related induction of signal transduction pathways,such as Janus kinase 2/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3,phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B,extracellular signal-regulated kinase,and nuclear factor-κB.B7-H3 exerts an important role in progression,metastasis and resistance to anticancer therapy in these tumors.In addition,the results of many studies suggest that B7-H3 stimulates immune evasion in GIT tumors by suppressing antitumor immune response.Accordingly,it was observed that experimental depletion or inhibition of B7-H3 in gastrointestinal cancers improved antitumor immune response,impaired tumor progression,invasion,angiogenesis,and metastasis and decreased resistance to anticancer therapy.Finally,the high expression of B7-H3 in most common cancers of the GIT was shown to be associated with poor prognosis.In this review,we summarize the established data from different GIT cancer-related studies and suggest that the B7-H3 molecule could be a promising prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for anticancer immunotherapy in these tumors.Petar Rasic Maja Jovanovic-Tucovic Marija Jeremic Slavisa M Djuricic Zorica V Vasiljevic Maja Milickovic Djordje Savic 2021World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2021,13,8:2

10Mitotic crossover- an evolutionary rudiment which promotes carcinogenesis of colorectal carcinoma显示文摘Mitotic crossover is a natural mechanism that is a main source of the genetic variability of primitive organisms.In complex organisms such as mammals,it represents an evolutionary rudiment which persisted as one of the numerous DNA repair mechanisms,and results in the production of homozygous allele combinations in all heterozygous genes located on the chromosome arm distal to the crossover.This event is familiar as loss of heterozygosity,which is one of the key mechanisms responsible for the development and progression of almost all cancers.We propose the hypothesis in which mitotic crossover is a principal source of the increased loss of heterozygosity that leads to the initiation and progression of colorectal carcinoma.The hypothesis could be tested by in vitro inhibition of Rad51 protein,orthotopic grafting of human colon cancer tissue into the gut of mice,and treatment with potential inhibitors.After these procedures,the frequency of mitotic crossover would be estimated.The development of selective inhibitors of mitotic crossover could stop further carcinogenesis of colorectal carcinoma,as well as many other neoplastic events.Loss of heterozygosity is an event responsible for carcinogenesis,its reduction by selective inhibitors of mitotic crossover could have a positive effect on cancer chemoprevention,as well as on growth reduction and a cessation in the progression of earlier developed tumors.Branislav Rovcanin Ivan Ivanovski Olivera Djuric Dimitrije Nikolic Jelena Petrovic Petar Ivanovski 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,35:2

14Estimating the Forest Above-ground Biomass Based on Extracted LiDAR Metrics and Predicted Diameter at Breast Height显示文摘Reliable and prompt information on forest above-ground biomass(AGB)and tree diameter at breast height(DBH)are crucial for sustainable forest management.Remote sensing technology,especially the Light Detection and Ranging(LiDAR)technology,has been proven to estimate important tree variables effectively.This study proposes predicting DBH and AGB from tree height and other LiDAR data extracted metrics.In the suggested DBH prediction,we developed a nonlinear estimation equation using the total tree height.As for the AGB prediction approach,we used regression methods such as multiple linear regression(MLR),random forest(RF)and support vector machine for regression(SVR).We conducted the study for the Gudao forest area dominated by Robinia Pseudoacacia trees,located in the Yellow River Delta(YRD),China.For our developed approaches,we used Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)and Backpack LiDAR point cloud datasets obtained in June 2017,and three field data measurements gathered in June 2017 and 2019 and October 2019,all from the same study area.The results demonstrate that:①The LiDAR data individual tree segmentation(ITS)from which we extracted individual tree information like tree location and tree height,was carried out with an overall accuracy F=0.91;②We used the ITS height data from the field stand in 2019 as a fit and developed a nonlinear DBH estimation equation with Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)=3.61 cm,later validated by the 2017 dataset;③Forest AGB at stand level was estimated with the MLR,RF and also SVR regression methods,and results show that the SVR method gave higher accuracy with R2=0.82 compared to the R2=0.72 of RF and the R2=0.70 of the MLR.Calculated AGB at plot level using the 2017 LiDAR data was used to validate both models’accuracy.Combining the UAV LiDAR data and the Backpack LiDAR significantly improved the overall ITS.The UAV LiDAR ability to provide high accuracy tree height abstraction,the DBH of the regression equation and other extracted LiDAR metrics showed high accuracy in estimating the forest AGB.This study shows that being cost-free is not the only advantage of free available software.In the performance of ITS and the LiDAR,metrics extraction proved to be as good as the commercially available software.Petar DONEV Hong WANG Shuhong QIN Pengyu MENG Jinbo LU 2021Journal of Geodesy and Geoinformation Science2021,4,3:2

19Erythrocytic transglutaminase inhibition hemolysis at presentation of celiac disease显示文摘Celiac disease (CD) is a common autoimmune condition.Previously it was considered to be a rare childhood disorder,but is actually considered a relatively common condition,present at any age,which may have multiple complications and manifestations.Hematological disorders of the disease are not uncommon.Among these disorders,the most frequently reported are anemias as a result of iron deficiency,often associated with folate and/or B12 deficiency.Anemias caused by hemolysis are very rarely reported in celiac patients.An 11-year-old girl with a previous uneventful medical history presented with severe hemolytic anemia.Hemolysis was Coombs negative,accompanied by inappropriate low reticulocyte count,despite exaggerated bone marrow hyperplasia of the erythroid precursors which showed normal maturation.Serology for recent infections,including EpsteinBarr virus,parvovirus B19,cytomegalovirus and mycoplasma,were all negative.Levels of serum IgA,IgG and IgM,were all within normal ranges for age.Screeningfor anti-DNA,antinuclear,antineutrophil cytoplasmic,antimicrosomal,antithyroglobulin,and antimitochondrial antibodies and lupus anticoagulants,was negative.She was also negative for human immunodeficiency virus.Conventional therapy with corticosteroids and intravenous immunoglobulin failed.CD was serendipitously discovered upon screening for anti-tissue transglutaminase autoantibodies.The disease was confirmed by biopsy of the small intestine mucosa.The patient recovered with gluten-free diet.A unique case of CD is presented.CD should be serologically screened in each patient with Coombs negative 'immune'hemolytic anemia,particularly if accompanied by 'reticulocytopenia'.A new hemolytic mechanism and very speculative explanation for 'reticulocytopenia'are discussed.Petar Ivanovski Dimitrije Nikoli Nikola Dimitrijevi Ivan Ivanovski Vojislav Perii 2010World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,44:1
