1HIF-1α induces VE-cadherin expression and modulates vasculogenic mimicry in esophageal carcinoma cells显示文摘AIM:To investigate whether hypoxia inducible factor(HIF)-1αmodulates vasculogenic mimicry(VM)by upregulating VE-cadherin expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC).METHODS:Esophageal squamous cancer cell lines Eca109 and TE13 were transfected with plasmids harboring small interfering RNAs targeting HIF-1αor VEcadherin.The proliferation and invasion of esophageal carcinoma cells were detected by MTT and Transwell migration assays.The formation of tubular networks of cells was analyzed by 3D culture in vitro.BALB/c nude mice were used to observe xenograft tumor formation.The relationship between the expression of HIF-1αand VE-cadherin,ephrin A2(Eph A2)and laminin5γ2(LN5γ2)was measured by Western blot and real-time polymerase chain reaction.RESULTS:Knockdown of HIF-1αinhibited cell proliferation(32.3%±6.1%for Eca109 cells and 38.6%±6.8%for TE13 cells,P<0.05).Both Eca109 and TE13cells formed typical tubular networks.The number of tubular networks markedly decreased when HIF-1αor VE-cadherin was knocked down.Expression of VEcadherin,Eph A2 and LN5γ2 was dramatically inhibited,but the expression of matrix metalloproteinase 2 had no obvious change in HIF-1α-silenced cells.Knockdown of VE-cadherin significantly decreased expression of both Eph A2 and LN5γ2(P<0.05),while HIF-1αexpression was unchanged.The time for xenograft tumor formation was 6±1.2 d for Eca109 cells and Eca109cells transfected with HIF-1αNeo control short hairpin RNA(sh RNA)vector,and 8.4±2.1 d for Eca109 cells transfected with an sh RNA against HIF-1α.Knockdown of HIF-1αinhibited vasculogenic mimicry(VM)and tumorigenicity in vivo.CONCLUSION:HIF-1αmay modulate VM in ESCC by regulating VE-cadherin expression,which affects VM formation through Eph A2 and LN5γ2.Na-Na Tang Hong Zhu Hong-Jie Zhang Wei-Feng Zhang Hai-Lin Jin Lu Wang Pin Wang Gui-Jun He Bo Hao Rui-Hua Shi 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,47:25
2Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. 4Genomic analyses of metal resistance genes in three plant growth promoting bacteria of legume plants in Northwest mine tailings, China显示文摘To better understand the diversity of metal resistance genetic determinant from microbes that survived at metal tailings in northwest of China, a highly elevated level of heavy metal containing region, genomic analyses was conducted using genome sequence of three native metal-resistant plant growth promoting bacteria(PGPB). It shows that: Mesorhizobium amorphae CCNWGS0123 contains metal transporters from P-type ATPase, CDF(Cation Diffusion Facilitator), Hup E/Ure J and CHR(chromate ion transporter) family involved in copper, zinc, nickel as well as chromate resistance and homeostasis. Meanwhile, the putative Cop A/Cue O system is expected to mediate copper resistance in Sinorhizobium meliloti CCNWSX0020 while Znt A transporter, assisted with putative Czc D, determines zinc tolerance in Agrobacterium tumefaciens CCNWGS0286. 5Antrodia Cinnamomea ameliorates neointimal formation by inhibiting infl ammatory cell infi ltration through downregulation of adhesion molecule expression in vitro and in vivo显示文摘The increased vascular infl ammation is a key event in the development of atherosclerotic lesions.Antrodia cinnamomea has been shown to promote anticancerogenic activity through decreasing infl ammation.However,the potential role of A.cinnamomea in cardiovascular diseases remains unexplored.Herein,using carotid arterial ligation models,we found that ethanol extract from A.cinnamomea(EEAC)signifi cantly inhibited neointimal hyperplasia in a dose-dependent manner,accompanied with the reduced expression of activated p65 and infl ammatory cytokines.We also show that EEAC ameliorated TNF-α-induced phosphorylation of p65 and pro-infl ammatory cytokine expression in both vascular smooth muscle cells(VSMCs)and macrophages in vitro.Mechanistically,EEAC suppressed expression levels of intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1)and vascular cell adhesion molecule(VCAM-1)in VSMCs,which attenuates the ability of monocytes/macrophages adhesion to VSMCs.Furthermore,the expression level of these adhesion molecules and infi ltration of monocytes/macrophages were also decreased in neointimal VSMCs of arteries pretreated with EEAC.Altogether,our results reveal a novel function of A.cinnamomea in suppressing vascular infl ammation upon ligation injury during neointimal formation,likely through inhibition of infl ammatory cell infi ltration via downregulating the adhesion molecules in VSMCs.Thus,A.cinnamomea may offer a pharmacological therapy to slow down disease progression in patients with vascular injury.Yan Zhang Aijin Ma Hao Xi Ning Chen Rong Wang Chenhui Yang Jinbang Chen Pin Lü Fuping Zheng Wenyi Kang 2021Food Science and Human Wellness2021,10,4:4

Here,we adopt the filament type to study the metal oxide based resistive switching memory,which considers the migration of metallic cations and oxygen vacancies,as well as discuss two main mechanisms including the electrochemical metallization effect(ECM) and valence change memory effect(VCM). At the light of the influence of the electrode materials and switching layers on the RS characteristics,an overview has also been given on the performance parameters including the uniformity endurance,the retention,and the multi-layer storage. 8Differentially Expressed microRNAs as Potential Markers for Vital Reaction of Burned Skin显示文摘The identification of antemortem burns and postmortem burns is essential in forensic practice.In this study,microRNA(miRNA)microarray analysis was conducted to identify differentially expressed miRNAs in the skin of an experimental burn model.Microarray analysis revealed 24 differentially expressed miRNAs in antemortem burned mice skin,with 19 miRNAs significantly upregulated and 5 downregulated.Based on the intersection predicted using three databases(Targetscan,microRNA.org,and PITA),293 potential miRNA targets were identified.These dysregulated miRNAs and their predicted targets were further analyzed using the Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes databases.Several functional categories and signaling pathways were enriched,including the“fc epsilon ri signaling pathway,”“endometrial cancer,”and“mTOR signaling pathway.”Expression patterns of 10 differentially expressed miRNAs were verified by reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction in mice skins.The results agreed with the results of microarray analysis.These findings suggest that differentially expressed miRNAs revealed by microarray are potential markers for forensic molecular diagnosis of antemortem burns.Hao‑Pin Lyu Ming Cheng Jin‑Cen Liu Ming‑Yuan Ye Di Xu Jie‑Tao He Xiao‑Li Xie Qi Wang 2018Journal of Forensic Science and Medicine2018,4,3:2

10Removal of toxic metal ions using chitosan coated carbon nanotube composites for supercapacitors显示文摘Environmental pollution and energy crisis are two major global challenges to human beings.Recovering energy from wastewater is considered to be one of the effective approaches to address these two issues synchronously.As the main pollutants in wastewater,toxic heavy metal ions are the potential candidates for energy storage devices with pseudocapacitive behaviors.In this study,toxic metal ions of Cr(VI)and Cu(II)are removed efficiently by chitosan coated oxygen-containing functional carbon nanotubes,and the corresponding equilibrium adsorption capacity is 142.1 and 123.7 mg g^(-1).Followed by carbonization of metal ions-adsorbed adsorbents,Cu-and Cr N-loaded carbon composites can be obtained.Electrochemical measurements show that the supercapacitor electrodes based on Cu-and Cr N-loaded carbon composites have specific capacitance of 144.9 and 114.9 F g^(-1)at2 m V s^(-1),with superior electrochemical properties to pure chitosan coated carbon nanotubes after carbonization.This work demonstrates a new strategy for the resource-utilization of other heavy metal ions for energy devices,and also provides a new way to turn environmental pollutants into clean energy.Pin Hao Xiaoye Ma Junfeng Xie Fengcai Lei Liyi Li Wenqian Zhu Xin Cheng Guanwei Cui Bo Tang 2018Science China Chemistry2018,61,7:2
11Conceptual design of a Cs2LiLaBr6 scintillator‑based neutron total cross section spectrometer on the back‑n beam line at CSNS显示文摘To reduce the experimental uncertainty in the 235 U resonance energy region and improve the detection efficiency for neutron total cross section measurements compared with those obtained with the neutron total cross section spectrometer(NTOX), a dedicated lithium-containing scintillation detector has been developed on the Back-n beam line at the China Spallation Neutron Source. The Fast Scintillator-based Neutron Total Cross Section(FAST) spectrometer has been designed based on a Cs2Li La Br6(CLLB) scintillator considering the γ-ray flash and neutron environment on the Back-n beam line. The response of the CLLB scintillator to neutrons and γ-rays was evaluated with different 6Li/7 Li abundance ratios using Geant4. The neutron-γdiscrimination performance of the CLLB has been simulated considering different scintillation parameters, physical designs,and light readout modes. A cubic 6Li-enriched( > 90%) CLLB scintillator, which has a thickness of 4-9 mm and side length of no less than 50 mm to cover the Φ 50 mm neutron beam at the spectrometer position, has been proposed coupling to a side readout SiPM array to construct the FAST spectrometer. 16A Class Effect Network Meta-analysis of Lipid Modulation in Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis for Dyslipidemia显示文摘Background and Aims:Pharmaceutical therapy for NASH is associated with lipid modulation,but the consensus on drug treatment is limited and lacks comparative analysis of effectiveness.A network meta-analysis was conducted to compare NASH drug classes in lipid modulation.Methods:Online databases were searched for randomized controlled trails(RCTs)evaluating NASH treatments in biopsy-proven NASH patients.Treatments were classified into four groups:(1)inflammation,(2)energy,(3)bile acids,and(4)fibro-sis based on the mechanism of action.A Bayesian network analysis was conducted with outcome measured by mean difference(MD)with credible intervals(Crl)and surface un-der the cumulative ranking curve(SUCRA).Results:Forty-four RCTs were included in the analysis.Bile acid modulat-ing treatments(MD:0.05,Crl:0.03-0.07)were the best treatment for improvement in high-density lipid(HDL)cho-lesterol,followed by treatments modulating energy(MD:0.03,Crl:0.02-0.04)and fibrosis(MD:0.01,Crl:−0.12 to 0.14)compared with placebo.The top three treatments for reduction in triglycerides were treatments modulating energy(MD:−0.46,Crl:−0.49 to−0.43),bile acids(MD:−0.22,Crl:−0.35 to−0.09),and inflammation(MD:−0.08,Crl:−0.13 to−0.03)compared with placebo.SUCRA found treatment modulating fibrosis(MD:−1.27,Crl:−1.76 to−0.79)was the best treatment for reduction in low-density lipid(LDL)cholesterol followed by treatment modulating in-flammation(MD:−1.03,Crl:−1.09 to−0.97)and energy(MD:−0.37,Crl:−0.39 to−0.34)compared with placebo,but LDL cholesterol was worsened by treatments modulat-ing bile acids.Conclusions:Network analysis comparing the class effects of dyslipidemia modulation in NASH found that treatment targets can include optimization of athero-genic dyslipidemia.Future studies are required to evaluate the cardiovascular outcomes.Jieling Xiao Cheng-Han Ng Yip-Han Chin Darren Jun Hao Tan Wen-Hui Lim Grace Lim Jingxuan Quek Ansel Shao Pin Tang Kai-En Chan Rou-Yi Soong Nicholas Chew Benjamin Tay Daniel Q.Huang Nobuharu Tamaki Roger Foo Mark Y.Chan Mazen Noureddin Mohammad Shadab Siddiqui Arun J.Sanyaland Mark D.Muthiah 2022Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2022,10,6:0
17Solitary hyoid plasmacytoma with unicentric Castleman disease:A case report and review of literature显示文摘BACKGROUND Solitary plasmacytoma and unicentric Castleman disease(UCD)are rare lymphoproliferative disorders characterized by monoclonal plasma cells and a single set of locally enlarged lymph nodes,respectively.CASE SUMMARY A 48-year-old Han Chinese man presented to our department with a neck mass and progressive foreign body sensation in his throat.18F-FDG positron emission tomography revealed focally increased radioactivity centered around the hyoid,and computed tomography(CT)revealed osteolytic lesions.Histopathology revealed Castleman-like features and CD138/CD38-positive mature plasma cells.Systemic work-up ruled out the possibility of POEMS syndrome,lymphoma,and multiple myeloma,leading to a final diagnosis of solitary hyoid plasmacytoma with UCD.The patient underwent partial hyoid resection and selective neck dissection,followed by intensity-modulated radiotherapy.99mTc-MDP singlephoton emission computed tomography/CT reevaluation showed neither local recurrence nor distant bone metastasis at the 40-mo follow-up.CONCLUSION The diagnostic process and differential diagnosis of this rare case provided valuable educational information to clinicians.Yan-Hui Zhang Yi-Feng He Hao Yue Yue-Ni Zhang Lei Shi Bin Jin Pin Dong 2022World Journal of Clinical Cases2022,10,36:0
18Fabrication of novel thin-film composite membrane based on ultrathin metal-organic framework interlayer for enhancing forward osmosis performance显示文摘To improve operation efficiency,an interlayered thin-film composite forward osmosis(iTFC-FO)membrane was designed by introducing an ultrathin and porous interlayer based on aluminum tetra-(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin(a stable metal-organic framework nanosheet,Al-MOF).Surface characterization results revealed that Al-MoF spread evenly in the macro-porous substrate,and provided a flat and smooth reaction interface with moderate hydrophilicity and uniform small aperture.The resultant polyamide(PA)layer had a thin base(without intrusion into substrate)and crumpled surface(with abundant leaves).The leaves size and cross-linking degree of PA layer firstly increased and then decreased with the Al-MOF loading.Compared to the original membrane,the iTFC-FO showed an enhanced water permeability and a reduced reverse sodium flux in both modes of active layer facing feed solution(ALFS)and active layer facing draw solution(AL-DS).To be specific,the specific reverse sodium flux(reverse sodium flux/pure water flux)decreased from 0.27 g/L to 0.04 g/L in the AL-FS mode,while from 1.36 g/L to 0.23 g/L in the AL-DS mode with 2 mol/L NaCl as DS.Moreover,the iTFC-FO maintained high stability and high permeability under high-salinity and contaminated environment.This study offers a new possibility for the rational fabrication of high-performance TFC-FO membranes.Hao Liu Bo Li Pin Zhao Rongming Xu Chuyang Y.Tang Weilong Song Zunaira Habib Xinhua Wang 2023Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,12:0
19Photocatalytic thin film composite forward osmosis membrane for mitigating organic fouling in active layer facing draw solution mode显示文摘As a high-flux operation mode of thin film composite-forward osmosis(TFC-FO)membrane,active layer facing draw solution(AL-DS)mode suffers from the severe membrane fouling tendency,which is not addressed well.Here,we introduced a photocatalyst(Anatase titanium dioxide,A-TiO_(2))onto the support layer of TFC-FO membrane via the bonding of polydopamine(PDA)and polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE),and prepared two photocatalytic membranes,A-TiO_(2)/PDA@TFC and A-TiO_(2)/PTFE@TFC.Compared with the pristine TFC-FO membrane,both A-Ti O_(2)/PDA@TFC and A-TiO_(2)/PTFE@TFC had an improved water permeability(10.5 L m^(-2)h^(-1)and 9.5 L m^(-2)h^(-1),respectively)and reduced reverse Na Cl flux salt(0.8 g m^(-2)h^(-1)and 0.7 g m^(-2)h^(-1),respectively)in the AL-DS mode using 1 mol/L Na Cl as draw solution and pure water as feed solution.Moreover,in the 16 h fouling experiment using 200 ppm bovine serum albumin(BSA)solution as a representative pollutant,the flux decline rate of both photocatalytic membranes was dramatically alleviated from 39.7%and 21.7%in the darkness to 8.5%and 9.7%under UV irradiation,respectively,indicating a significant anti-fouling capacity of photocatalytic effect.In all,the presence of A-TiO_(2)endowed membrane with high permeability,high rejection efficiency and excellent anti-fouling capacity under UV spotlight.As bonding agent,PTFE provided the modified membrane with a high photocatalytic effect and high self-cleaning capacity,while PDA increased the membrane permeability and protected membrane against photocatalytic damage.This work provides a simple and feasible method to improve the anti-fouling capacity of TFC-FO membrane in AL-DS mode.Yang Hu Pin Zhao Hao Liu Xiawen Yi Weilong Song Xinhua Wang 2023Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,6:0
20Novel(Ni, Fe)S2/(Ni, Fe)3S4 solid solution hybrid: an efficient electrocatalyst with robust oxygen-evolving performance显示文摘Fabrication of high-activity electrocatalysts with operational stability is desperately needed to achieve efficient energy conversion.Herein,for the first time,we highlight a novel electrocatalyst based on binary nickel iron sulfide solid solution hybrids on carbon cloth for oxygen evolution reaction.Benefitting from the synergistic effect of varied phases and the interfacial connection between(Ni,Fe)S2 and(Ni,Fe)3S4 to accelerate the charge transport,the Ni incorporation to optimize the electronic structure of the hybrids and the downshift of the d-band center to facilitate the desorption of oxygen intermediates,the partial charge-transfer between Fe and Ni to boost the generation of catalytically active Ni3+as well as the unique nanosphere structure to offer enough buffer area for the volume changes during constant redox reactions,the obtained binary nickel iron sulfide hybrids((Ni,Fe)S2/(Ni,Fe)3S4)display high catalytic reactivity with a low overpotential of 210 mV to reach the current density of 10 mA cm-2,and excellent stability with negligible activity deterioration,making the hybrid a promising candidate for electrocatalytic alkaline water oxidation.Pin Hao Ying Xin Jian Tian Liyi Li Junfeng Xie Fengcai Lei Lili Tong Hong Liu Bo Tang 2020Science China Chemistry2020,63,8:0
