1The rice OsV4 encoding a novel pentatricopeptide repeat protein is required for chloroplast development during the early leaf stage under cold stress显示文摘Pentatricopeptide repeat(PPR)proteins,characterized by tandem arrays of a 35 amino acid motif,have been suggested to play central and broad roles in modulating the expression of organelle genes in plants.However,the molecular mechanisms of most rice PPR genes remains unclear.In this paper,we isolated and characterized a temperature-conditional virescent mutant,OsV4,in rice(Oryza sativa cultivar Jiahua1(WT,japonica rice variety)).The mutant displays albino phenotype and abnormal chloroplasts at the three leaf stage,which gradually turns green after the four leaf stage at a low temperature(20°C).But the mutant always develops green leaves and well-developed chloroplasts at a high temperature(32°C).Genetic and molecular analyses uncovered that OsV4 encodes a novel chloroplast-targeted PPR protein including four PPR motifs.Further investigations show that the mutant phenotype is associated with changes in chlorophyll content and chloroplast development.The OsV4transcripts only accumulate to high levels in young leaves,indicating that its expression is tissue-specific.In addition,transcript levels of some ribosomal components and plastid-encoded polymerase-dependent genes are dramatically reduced in the albino mutants grown at 20°C.These findings suggest that OsV4 plays an important role during early chloroplast development under cold stress in rice.Xiaodi Gong Qianqian Su Dongzhi Lin Quan Jiang Jianlong Xu Jianhui Zhang Sheng Teng Yanjun Dong 2014Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2014,56,4:19
2Modeling rock specimens through 3D printing: Tentative experiments and prospects显示文摘Current developments in 3D printing (3DP) technology provide the opportunity to produce rock-like specimens and geotechnical models through additive manufacturing, that is, from a file viewed with a computer to a real object. This study investigated the serviceability of3 DP products as substitutes for rock specimens and rock-type materials in experimental analysis of deformation and failure in the laboratory. These experiments were performed on two types of materials as follows:(1) compressive experiments on printed sand-powder specimens in different shapes and structures, including intact cylinders, cylinders with small holes, and cuboids with pre-existing cracks, and(2) compressive and shearing experiments on printed polylactic acid cylinders and molded shearing blocks. These tentative tests for 3DP technology have exposed its advantages in producing complicated specimens with special external forms and internal structures, the mechanical similarity of its product to rock-type material in terms of deformation and failure, and its precision in mapping shapes from the original body to the trial sample(such as a natural rock joint). 3Effects of total dissolved gas supersaturated water on lethality and catalase activity of Chinese sucker(Myxocyprinus asiaticus Bleeker)显示文摘Total dissolved gas(TDG) supersaturation caused by dam sluicing can result in gas bubble trauma(GBT) in fish and threaten their survival.In the present study,Chinese suckers(Myxocyprinus asiaticus Bleeker) were exposed to TDG supersaturated water at levels ranging from 120% to 145% for 48 h.The median lethal concentration(LC 50) and the median lethal time(LT 50) were determined to evaluate acute lethal effects on Chinese suckers.The results showed that the LC 50 values of 4,6,8,and 10 h were 142%,137%,135%,and 130%,respectively.The LT 50 values were 3.2,4.7,7.8,9.2,and 43.4 h,respectively,when TDG supersaturated levels were 145%,140%,135%,130%,and 125%.Furthermore,the biological responses in Chinese suckers were studied by assaying the catalase(CAT) activities in gills and muscles at the supersaturation level of 140% within LT 50.The CAT activities in the gills and muscle tissues exhibited a regularity of a decrease after an increase.CAT activities in the muscles were increased significantly at 3/5LT 50(P<0.05) and then came back to the normal level.However,there were no significant differences between the treatment group(TDG level of 140%) and the control group(TDG level of 100%) on CAT activities in the gills before 3/5LT 50(P>0.05),but the activities were significantly lower than the normal level at 4/5LT 50 and LT 50(P<0.05).Shi-chao CHEN Xiao-qing LIU Wen JIANG Ke-feng LI Jun DU Dan-zhou SHEN Quan GONG 2012Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2012,13,10:11
4SbHKT1;4, a member of the high‐affinity potassium transporter gene family from Sorghum bicolor, functions to maintain optimal Na^+/K^+ balance under Na^+ stress显示文摘In halophytic plants, the high‐affinity potassium transporter HKT gene family can selectively uptake Kt in the presence of toxic concentrations of Nat. This has so far not been well examined in glycophytic crops. Here, we report the characterization of SbHKT1;4, a member of the HKT gene family from Sorghum bicolor. Upon Nat stress, SbHKT1;4 expression was more strongly upregulated in salt‐tolerant sorghum accession, correlating with a better balanced Nat/ Kt ratio and enhanced plant growth. Heterogeneous expression analyses in mutants of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Arabidopsis thaliana indicated that overexpressing SbHKT1;4 resulted in hypersensitivity to Nat stress, and such hypersensitivity could be alleviated with the supply of elevated levels of Kt, implicating that SbHKT1;4 may mediate Kt uptake in the presence of excessive Nat. Further electrophysiological evidence demonstrated that SbHKT1;4 could transport Nat and Kt when expressed in Xenopus laevis oocytes. 5Fibroblast-derived CXCL12/SDF-1α promotes CXCL6 secretion and co-operatively enhances metastatic potential through the PI3K/Akt/m TOR pathway in colon cancer显示文摘AIM To investigate the underlying mechanism by which CXCL12 and CXCL6 influences the metastatic potential of colon cancer and internal relation of colon cancer and stromal cells. METHODS Western blotting was used to detect the expression of CXCL12 and CXCL6 in colon cancer cells and stromal cells. The co-operative effects of CXCL12 and CXCL6 on proliferation and invasion of colon cancer cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs) were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,and proliferation and invasion assays. The angiogenesis of HUVECs through interaction with cancer cells and stromal cells was examined by angiogenesis assay. We eventually investigated activation of PI3K/Akt/m TOR signaling by CXCL12 involved in the metastatic process of colon cancer.RESULTS CXCL12 was expressed in DLD-1 cancer cells and fibroblasts. The secretion level of CXCL6 by colon cancer cells and HUVECs were significantly promoted by fibroblasts derived from CXCL12. CXCL6 and CXCL2 could significantly enhance HUVEC proliferation and migration(P < 0.01). CXCL6 and CXCL2 enhanced angiogenesis by HUVECs when cultured with fibroblast cells and colon cancer cells(P < 0.01). CXCL12 also enhanced the invasion of colon cancer cells. Stromal cell-derived CXCL12 promoted the secretion level of CXCL6 and co-operatively promoted metastasis of colon carcinoma through activation of the PI3K/Akt/m TOR pathway.CONCLUSION Fibroblast-derived CXCL12 enhanced the CXCL6 secretion of colon cancer cells,and both CXCL12 and CXCL6 co-operatively regulated the metastasis via the PI3K/Akt/m TOR signaling pathway. 6Total mesopancreas excision for pancreatic head cancer: analysis of 120 cases显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and safety of total mesopancreas excision(TMpE) in the treatment of pancreatic head cancer. Methods: The clinical and pathological data of 120 patients with pancreatic head cancer who had undergone TMpE in our center from May 2010 to January 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The mean operative time was(275.0±50.2) min and the average intra-operative blood loss was(390.0±160.5) mL. Post-operative complications were reported in 45 patients, while no peri-operative death was noted. The specimen margins were measured in three dimensions, and 86 patients(71.6%) achieved R0 resection. 7Strategies to improve aerobic granular sludge stability and nitrogen removal based on feeding mode and substrate显示文摘A systemic strategy was proposed to improve aerobic granular sludge(AGS)stability and nitrogen(N)removal efficiency by optimizing feeding mode and substrate aiming at complicated wastewater characteristics.Key functional groups at the genus level identified by high-throughput sequencing were evaluated as well.The results showed that anaerobic feeding mode and acetate promoted the compact AGS formation with excellent total nitrogen(TN)removal efficiency(averaging 91.7%±4.1%)at various dissolved oxygen conditions.While the aerobic feeding mode led to a loose AGS structure with a vulnerable anaerobic core and poor TN removal efficiency(averaging58.8%±7.4%).Simultaneous nitrification and denitrification process played the dominant role in N removal in compact AGS over the alternating nitrification and denitrification process.High-concentration glucose undermined feast-famine condition with filamentous bacteria growth out of granule and decreased TN removal efficiency to 67.3%±15.2%.Lower food to microorganism ratio may result in a lower N removal rate attributed to the sharply increased biomass concentration fed by glucose.Ammonia-oxidizing bacteria,nitrite-oxidizing bacteria,denitrifying bacteria,and denitrifying phosphorus accumulation organisms enriched during AGS granulation also contributed to the efficient N removal.The proposed strategy provided insights into the relationship between various factors and stable AGS formation,and systemic operation methods for various complicated wastewater treatment.Quan Yuan Hui Gong Hao Xi Heng Xu Zhengyu Jin Nasir Ali Kaijun Wang 2019Journal of Environmental Sciences2019,31,10:10

9Dental implant treatment for renal failure patients on dialysis:a clinical guideline显示文摘Chronic kidney disease(CKD) is a worldwide public health problem that is growing in prevalence and is associated with severe complications. During the progression of the disease, a majority of CKD patients suffer oral complications. Dental implants are currently the most reliable and successful treatment for missing teeth. However, due to complications of CKD such as infections,bone lesions, bleeding risks, and altered drug metabolism, dental implant treatment for renal failure patients on dialysis is more challenging. In this review, we have summarized the characteristics of CKD and previous publications regarding dental treatments for renal failure patients. 10Diurnal variations of the planetary boundary layer height estimated from intensive radiosonde observations over Yichang, China显示文摘By using the eight-times-daily sampling data from an intensive radiosonde observation campaign at Yichang(111°18′E,30°42′N),China in August 2006 and January 2007,the diurnal variation of the planetary boundary layer height determined by using a bulk Richardson(Ri)number approach,was studied in this paper.It was found that the boundary layer heights in both summer and winter months showed diurnal changes and the daily cycle was deeper in summer,which agreed well with the previous studies;the monthly averaged height was 103–1112 m and 89–450 m in summer and winter,respectively;the morning rise began at 0700 LT/1000 LT in summer/winter and the evening transition occurred at 1900 LT in both seasons;the maximum height occurred in the afternoon for most cases,except some peaks found in the winter night;the surface temperature and relative humidity dominated the variations of summer height,while the diurnal variation shown in January 2007 might have some connections with the dynamical processes in the lower troposphere,besides the surface effects.ZHANG YeHui ZHANG ShaoDong HUANG ChunMing HUANG KaiMing GONG Yun GAN Quan 2014Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,11:7

12Food Frequency Questionnaire for Chinese Children Aged 12-17 Years: Validity and Reliability显示文摘Objective The primary objective of this study was to examine the validity and reliability of a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire(FFQ) among Chinese children aged 12-17 years. Methods A semi-quantitative 72-food item FFQ was developed for children aged 12-17 years. The reliability and validity of this FFQ were evaluated against 24-h dietary recalls(24 h DRs) to measure the consumption of foods and nutrients. We administered two FFQs and three DRs to children(N = 160) over a period of 1 month to evaluate the reliability and validity. Reliability was examined by quartile agreement and intraclass correlation coefficients(ICCs), and validity was examined by quartile agreement, Bland-Altman plots and correlation with DRs. Results For reliability, the ICCs between the two FFQs ranged from 0.21 to 0.76 for foods and nutrients, and the quartile agreement ranged from 70.0% to 95.0% in the same or adjacent quartiles. Spearman’s correlation coefficients of foods and nutrients between the second FFQ and the 24 h DRs ranged from-0.04 to 0.59. The Bland-Altman plots demonstrated good agreement across the range of intakes among nutrients. The quartile agreement ranged from 50.0% to 100.0%, with infrequent misclassification. 13Effect of cream, prepared with Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F and other four medicinals, on joint pain and swelling in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: a double-blinded, randomized, placebo controlled clinical trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness a cream onjoint pain and swelling in patients with rheumatoid arthritis(RA). The cream, topically used, in was prepared with Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F(TwHF), Mangxiao(Nalrii Sulfas), Chuanxiong(Rhizoma Chuanxiong), stir-frying with liquid adjuvant Ruxiang(Olibanum), and stir-frying with liquid adjuvant Moyao(Myrrh).METHODS: Patients were 1∶1 randomized to addon TwHF cream twice a day or placebo for 4 weeks.The primary endpoint was achievement rate of20% improvement in American College of Rheuma-tology criteria(ACR20) at week 4. Secondary endpoints were ACR50, 28-joint count Disease Activity Score(DAS28) improvement and safety profiles.Statistical analyses were performed using intention to treat analysis(ITT) set.RESULTS: A total of 70 active RA patients were enrolled. At week 4, the ACR20 was 34.3%(12/35) in TwHF cream group and 11.4%(4/35) in placebo group(P = 0.015). Similarly, a higher ACR50 responder proportion was seen in TwHF cream group with 17.1%(6/35) comparing to it in placebo group with 2.9%(1/35)(P = 0.046). The TwHF cream group also had more improvement than the placebo group on DAS28-ESR(1.1 vs 0.5, P = 0.001), DAS28-CRP(1.4 vs 0.7, P = 0.001), tender joint count(5.5 vs2.6, P = 0.018), swollen joint count(3.5 vs 1.6, P =0.003) and Physician's global assessment(25.8 vs13.0, P = 0.002), as well as C-reactive protein(11.2 vs 2.7, P = 0.048). 14Climatology of global gravity wave activity and dissipation revealed by SABER/TIMED temperature observations显示文摘Gravity wave activity and dissipation in the height range from the low stratosphere to the low thermosphere(25–115 km)covering latitudes between 50°S and 50°N are statistically studied by using 9-year(January 22,2002–December 31,2010)SABER/TIMED temperature data.We propose a method to extract realistic gravity wave fluctuations from the temperature profiles and treat square temperature fluctuations as GW activity.Overall,the gravity wave activity generally increases with height.Near the equator(0°–10°),the gravity wave activity shows a quasi-biennial variation in the stratosphere(below 40 km)while from 20°to 30°,it exhibits an annual variation below 40 km;in low latitudes(0°–30°)between the upper stratosphere and the low thermosphere(40–115 km),the gravity wave activity shows a semi-annual variation.In middle latitudes(40°–50°),the gravity wave activity has a clear annual variation below 85 km.In addition,we observe a four-monthly variation with peaks occurring usually in April,August,December in the northern hemisphere and in February,June,October in the southern hemisphere,respectively,above 85 km in middle latitudes,which has been seldom reported in gravity wave activity.In order to study the dissipation of gravity wave propagation,we calculate the gravity wave dissipation ratio,which is defined as the ratio of the gravity wave growth scale height to the atmosphere density scale height.The height variation of the dissipation ratio indicates that strong gravity wave dissipation mainly concentrates in the three height regions:the stratosphere(30–60 km),the mesopause(around 85 km)and the low thermosphere(above 100 km).Besides,gravity wave energy enhancement can be also observed in the background atmosphere.SHUAI Jing ZHANG ShaoDong HUANG ChunMing YI Fan HUANG KaiMing GAN Quan GONG Yun 2014Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,5:5
15Theoretical verification of the rationality of strain energy storage index as rockburst criterion based on linear energy storage law显示文摘The rationality of using strain energy storage index(Wet)for evaluating rockburst proneness was theoretically verified based on linear energy storage(LES)law in this study.The LES law is defined as the linear relationship between the elastic strain energy stored inside the solid material and the input strain energy during loading.It is used to determine the elastic strain energy and dissipated strain energy of rock specimens at various loading/unloading stress levels.The results showed that the Wetvalue obtained from experiments was close to the corresponding theoretical one from the LES law.Furthermore,with an increase in the loading/unloading stress level,the ratio of elastic strain energy to dissipated strain energy converged to the peak-strength strain energy storage index(Wp et).This index is stable and can better reflect the relative magnitudes of the stored energy and the dissipated energy of rocks at the whole pre-peak stage than the strain energy storage index.The peak-strength strain energy storage index can replace the conventional strain energy storage index as a new index for evaluating rockburst proneness.Fengqiang Gong Song Luo Quan Jiang Lei Xu 2022Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2022,14,6:4
16Observations of gravity wave activity during stratospheric sudden warmings in the Northern Hemisphere显示文摘Arctic stratospheric sudden warming(SSW) with polar vortex displacement and splitting occurred in 2008 and 2009, respectively. The temperature profiles derived from the Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere and Climate(COSMIC) along with NCEP/NCAR reanalysis are used to investigate the gravity wave(GW) variations during these SSW events. Some phenomena are characterized and possible mechanisms are discussed. The GW variations during both types of SSW events shared some similarities. During the warming events, enhanced zonal mean GW amplitudes are detected. The enhancements of GW amplitudes first appeared at higher altitudes and then progressed downward during the major warming events. The downward progressions correspond well with the height variations of the zonal wind reversal, and the enhancements seem to occur at the same time with the wind reversal. The spatial variations of GWs showed evident correlation to the polar vortex. Generally, GWs were enhanced at the edge of the polar vortex where the background wind was strong, whereas the areas with the largest GW amplitudes did not always correspond with those with the strongest background wind. The differences during the two types of SSW are also noticeable. In the 2008 major event, the magnitudes of the zonal mean GW enhancements during the downward progression were relatively stable, whereas in the 2009 major event, a clear reduction was detected as the GW enhancement was progressing downward. Also, the recovery time of the polar vortex was longer in 2009. 18Near-infrared luminescent Nd^(3+)/Yb^(3+)-codoped metal-organic framework for ratiometric temperature sensing in physiological range显示文摘Self-calibrating luminescent thermometry employing luminescence within the optical transparency windows provides a promising prospect for temperature measurement in the biological fields.In this work,a new Nd^(3+)/Yb^(3+)-codoped metal-organic framework Nd_(0.95)Yb_(0.05)BPTC showing threedimensional anionic network,obtained by reacting ligand[1,1’-biphenyl]-3,3’,5,5’-tetracarboxylic acid(H4BPTC)with Nd^(3+)and Yb^(3+)ions under solvothermal conditions,is reported.Upon 808 nm photoexcitation,Nd_(0.95)Yb_(0.05)BPTC simultaneously emits the characteristic near-infrared luminescence of Nd^(3+)and Yb^(3+)ions based on the efficient energy transfer from Nd^(3+)to Yb^(3+)ions.In addition,the emission intensity ratio of Yb^(3+)and Nd^(3+)shows good exponential-like response to temperature in the physiological range of 293-323 K.The feature properties of Nd_(0.95)Yb_(0.05)BPTC include near-infrared absorption and emission,favorable temperature sensitivity and accurate temperature uncertainty,as well as good chemical stability,making such system useful in biomedical applications.Chao Gu Yanyun Ding Xinghua Quan Mengyao Gong Jiulong Yu Dian Zhao Chunxia Li 2021Journal of Rare Earths2021,39,9:4
19Defect-mediated reactivity of Pt/TiO2 catalysts:the different role of titanium and oxygen vacancies显示文摘Defects are ubiquitous in oxide supports and can often tune the catalytic property of supported metal catalysts.This work describes the distinct role of titanium and oxygen vacancies of TiO2 supports in the catalytic performance of supported Pt catalysts for CO oxidation.Pt was loaded on the TiO2 supports with oxygen vacancies(VO-TiO2)and titanium vacancies(VTiTiO2).It was found that different defects of TiO2 could distinctively modify the electron property of Pt and thereby CO adsorption strength.The strength of CO adsorption on Pt/VTi-TiO2 is enhanced,while that of Pt/VO-TiO2 becomes weaker.Additionally,the presence of defects would also promote the reducibility of catalysts.On the account of the superior redox ability,both Pt/VTi-TiO2 and Pt/VO-TiO2 exhibit a higher activity than Pt supported on normal TiO2 for CO oxidation.Quan Xiao Yanan Wang Zhi-Jian Zhao Chunlei Pei Sai Chen Lijun Gao Rentao Mu Qiang Fu Jinlong Gong 2020Science China Chemistry2020,63,9:4
20Curcumin protects against acetaminophen-induced apoptosis in hepatic injury显示文摘AIM:To explore the effects of curcumin(CMN)on hepatic injury induced by acetaminophen(APAP)in vivo.METHODS:Male mice were randomly divided into three groups:groupⅠ(control)mice received the equivalent volumes of phosphate-buffered saline(PBS)intraperitoneally(ip);GroupⅡ[APAP+carboxymethylcellulose(CMC)]mice received 1%CMC(vehicle)2h before APAP injection;GroupⅢ(APAP+CMN)mice received curcumin(10 or 20 mg/kg,ip)2 h before before or after APAP challenge.In GroupsⅡandⅢ,APAP was dissolved in pyrogen-free PBS and injected at a single dose of 300 mg/kg.CMN was dissolved in 1%CMC.Mice were sacrificed 16 h after the APAP injection to determine alanine aminotransferase(ALT)levels in serum and malondialdehyde(MDA)accumulation,superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity and hepatocyte apoptosis in liver tissues.RESULTS:Both pre-and post-treatment with curcumin resulted in a significant decrease in serum ALT compared with APAP treatment group(10 mg/kg:801.46±661.34 U/L;20 mg/kg:99.68±86.48 U/L vs 5406.80±1785.75 U/L,P<0.001,respectively).The incidence of liver necrosis was significantly lowered in CMN treated animals.MDA contents were significantly reduced in 20 mg/kg CMN pretreatment group,but increased in APAP treated group(10.96±0.87 nmol/mg protein vs 16.03±2.58 nmol/mg protein,P<0.05).The decrease of SOD activity in APAP treatment group and the increase of SOD in 20 mg/kg CMN pretreatment group were also detected(24.54±4.95 U/mg protein vs 50.21±1.93 U/mg protein,P<0.05).Furthermore,CMN treatment efficiently protected against APAPinduced apoptosis via increasing Bcl-2/Bax ratio.CONCLUSION:CMN has significant therapeutic potential in both APAP-induced hepatotoxicity and other types of liver diseases.Gang Li Jun-Bao Chen Chao Wang Zhi Xu Hao Nie Xiao-Yan Qin Xiao-Mei Chen Quan Gong 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,42:4
