| 5 | Evaluation of the 7^(th) edition of the TNM classification in patients with resected esophageal squamous cell carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the prognostic factors and tumor stages of the 7th edition TNM classification for esophageal cancer.METHODS:In total,1033 patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)who underwent surgical resection with or without(neo)adjuvant therapy between January 2003 and June 2012 at the Thoracic Surgery DepartmentⅡof the Beijing Cancer Hospital,Beijing,China were included in this study.The following eligibility criteria were applied:(1)squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus or gastroesophageal junction identified by histopathological examination;(2)treatment with esophagectomy plus lymphadenectomy with curative intent;and(3)complete pathologic reports and follow-up data.Patients who underwent non-curative(R1)resection and patients who died in hospital were excluded.Patients who received(neo)adjuvant therapy were also included in thisanalysis.All patients were restaged using the 7th edition of the Union for International Cancer Control and the American Joint Committee on Cancer TNM staging systems.Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify the prognostic factors for survival.Survival curves were plotted using the Kaplan-Meier method,and the log-rank test was used to evaluate differences between the subgroups.RESULTS:Of the 1033 patients,273 patients received(neo)adjuvant therapy,and 760 patients were treated with surgery alone.The median follow-up time was 51.6mo(range:5-112 mo)and the overall 5-year survival rate was 36.4%.Gender,'p T'and'p N'descriptors,(neo)adjuvant therapy,and the 7th edition TNM stage grouping were independent prognostic factors in the univariate and multivariate analyses.However,neither histologic grade nor cancer location were independent prognostic factors in the univariate and multivariate analyses.The 5-year stage-based survival rates were as follows:ⅠA,84.9%;ⅠB,70.9%;ⅡA,56.2%;ⅡB,43.3%;ⅢA,37.9%;ⅢB,23.3%;ⅢC,12.9%andⅣ,3.4%.There were significant differences between each adjacent staging classification.Moreover,there were significant differences between each adjacent p N and p M subgroup.According to the p T descriptor,there were significant differences between each adjacent subgroup except between p T3 and p T4(P=0.405).However,there was no significant difference between each adjacent histologic grade subgroup and between each adjacent cancer location subgroup.CONCLUSION:The 7th edition is considered to be valid for patients with resected ESCC.However,the histologic grade and cancer location were not prognostic factors for ESCC. | Jia Wang Nan Wu Qing-Feng Zheng Shi Yan Chao Lv Shao-Lei Li Yue Yang | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,48: | 23 |
| 6 | Performance of dithiocarbamate-type flocculant in treating simulated polymer flooding produced water显示文摘Produced water from polymer flooding is difficult to treat due to its high polymer concentration,high viscosity,and emulsified characteristics.The dithiocarbamate flocculant,DTC (T403),was prepared by the amine-terminated polyoxypropane-ether compound known as Jeffamine-T403.The product was characterized by IR spectra and elemental analysis.The DTC agent chelating with Fe 2+ produced a network polymer matrix,which captured and removed oil droplets efficiently.Oil removal by the flocculent on simulated produced water with 0,200,500,900 mg/L of partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) was investigated for aspects of effectiveness of DTC (T403) dosage and concentrations of HPAM and Fe 2+ ions in the wastewater.Results showed that HPAM had a negative influence on oil removal efficiency when DTC (T403) dosage was lower than 20 mg/L.However,residual oil concentrations in tested samples with different concentrations of HPAM all decreased below 10 mg/L when DTC (T403) dosage reached 30 mg/L.The concentration of Fe 2+ in the initial wastewater had a slight effect on oil removal at the range of 2-12 mg/L.Results showed that Fe 3+ could not be used in place of Fe 2+ as Fe 3+ could not react with DTC under flocculated conditions.The effects of mineral salts ions were also investigated. | Baoyu Gao | 2011 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,1: | 18 |

| 12 | Extracellular vesicles from human urine-derived stem cells prevent osteoporosis by transferring CTHRC1 and OPG显示文摘Osteoporosis is a debilitating bone disease affecting millions of people. Here, we used human urine-derived stem cells(USCs),which were noninvasively harvested from unlimited and easily available urine, as a 'factory' to obtain extracellular vesicles(USCEVs) and demonstrated that the systemic injection of USC-EVs effectively alleviates bone loss and maintains bone strength in osteoporotic mice by enhancing osteoblastic bone formation and suppressing osteoclastic bone resorption. More importantly, the anti-osteoporotic properties of USC-EVs are not notably disrupted by the age, gender, or health condition(with or without osteoporosis) of the USC donor. Mechanistic studies determined that collagen triple-helix repeat containing 1(CTHRC1) and osteoprotegerin(OPG) proteins are enriched in USC-EVs and required for USC-EV-induced pro-osteogenic and anti-osteoclastic effects. | 13 | Impact of Long-Term Atrazine Use on Groundwater Safety in Jilin Province, China显示文摘The long-lasting application of representative herbicide atrazine (ATR) has given rise to the accumulation of its residues in the groundwater. To investigate the impact of long-term ATR use on groundwater safety, the residues of ATR and its metabolites, desethylatrazine (DEA), deisopropylatrazine (DIA) and hydroxyatrazine (HA) were monitored in groundwater and top soil at the major corn growing region of Qian'an and Gongzhuling in Jilin Province, China. The residues of the target compounds were analyzed by UPLC-MS/MS. The limits of detection (LODs) of ATR, DEA, DIA, and HA were 0.5, 0.5, 5, and 0.5 ng L-1 in groundwater and 0.33, 0.33, 3.3, and 0.33 μg kg-1 in soil. The target compounds were found in 94% of groundwater samples and 100% of soil samples. The compounds detected most frequently in groundwater were ATR (89%), DEA (64%) and HA (17%), whereas in soil were ATR (97%), DEA (36%) and HA (97%). DIA was not detected in any determined groundwater and soil sample. Average residues were 106.8 ng L-1 for ATR, 0.9 ng L-1 for DEA and 0.3 ng L-1 for HA in groundwater, whereas 11.1 μg kg-1 for ATR, 0.4 μg kg-1 for DEA and 7.8 μg kg-1 for HA in soil. ATR residues detected in groundwater samples were below standards for drinking water quality (GB5749-2006, 2 μg L-1), while the total residues of ATR and its chloro-s-triazine metabolites (DEA and DIA) were below current WHO (World Health Organization) guideline value (GV, 0.1 mg L-1). In addition, concentrations of HA in groundwater were determined below current WHO GV (0.2 mg L-1). The results indicated that ATR is safe to be used in Jilin Province under the current application scheme. | 14 | Efficient spectrum prediction and inverse design for plasmonic waveguide systems based on artificial neural networks显示文摘In this paper, we propose a novel approach to achieve spectrum prediction, parameter fitting, inverse design, and performance optimization for the plasmonic waveguide-coupled with cavities structure(PWCCS) based on artificial neural networks(ANNs). The Fano resonance and plasmon-induced transparency effect originated from the PWCCS have been selected as illustrations to verify the effectiveness of ANNs. We use the genetic algorithm to design the network architecture and select the hyperparameters for ANNs. Once ANNs are trained by using a small sampling of the data generated by the Monte Carlo method, the transmission spectra predicted by the ANNs are quite approximate to the simulated results. The physical mechanisms behind the phenomena are discussed theoretically, and the uncertain parameters in the theoretical models are fitted by utilizing the trained ANNs.More importantly, our results demonstrate that this model-driven method not only realizes the inverse design of the PWCCS with high precision but also optimizes some critical performance metrics for the transmission spectrum. | 16 | The microphysics of ice accretion on wires:Observations and simulations显示文摘The weather system, meteorological conditions, and microphysics of cloud, fog, and rain droplets are studied during the formation, growth, maintenance, and shedding periods of ice accretion on wires in Enshi, Hubei Province in China using 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 winter observations. The comprehensive observations include data of visibility, microphysics of fog and rain droplets, and ice thickness, as well as data from an automated weather station and other routinely recorded meteorological data. The results show that icing occurred during the passage of a cold front, with a high-pressure system and a cold temperature trough at 850 hPa, and a southeasterly at 500 hPa that provided abundant moisture. Ice formation usually started in the evening or early morning, and ice shed around noon the following day when the temperature was-1°C to 0°C. The averaged liquid water content of the fog droplet was distinctly greater during the growth period than during the other three periods, and there was precipitation during the growth period in each case of ice accretion. The growth rate of the ice thickness was clearly correlated with the liquid water content, with a correlation coefficient of 0.62. | 19 | Insight-HXMT observations of the first binary neutron star merger GW170817显示文摘Finding the electromagnetic(EM) counterpart of binary compact star merger, especially the binary neutron star(BNS) merger,is critically important for gravitational wave(GW) astronomy, cosmology and fundamental physics. On Aug. 17, 2017,Advanced LIGO and Fermi/GBM independently triggered the first BNS merger, GW170817, and its high energy EM counterpart,GRB 170817 A, respectively, resulting in a global observation campaign covering gamma-ray, X-ray, UV, optical, IR, radio as well as neutrinos. The High Energy X-ray telescope(HE) onboard Insight-HXMT(Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope) is the unique high-energy gamma-ray telescope that monitored the entire GW localization area and especially the optical counterpart(SSS17 a/AT2017 gfo) with very large collection area(~1000 cm^2) and microsecond time resolution in 0.2-5 MeV. In addition,Insight-HXMT quickly implemented a Target of Opportunity(ToO) observation to scan the GW localization area for potential X-ray emission from the GW source. Although Insight-HXMT did not detect any significant high energy(0.2-5 MeV) radiation from GW170817, its observation helped to confirm the unexpected weak and soft nature of GRB 170817 A. Meanwhile,Insight-HXMT/HE provides one of the most stringent constraints(~10^(-7) to 10^(-6) erg/cm^2/s) for both GRB170817 A and any other possible precursor or extended emissions in 0.2-5 MeV, which help us to better understand the properties of EM radiation from this BNS merger. | 20 | TNF-α and IL-1RA Polymorphisms and Silicosis Susceptibility in Chinese Workers Exposed to Silica Particles:A Case-Control Study显示文摘Objective To assess the association of TNF- α and IL-1RA SNPs with the risk of silicosis in Chinese workers exposed to silica particles. Methods Case-control study design was used to enroll 68 silicotic patients induced by silica particles and 68 healthy workers matched for length of silica particle exposure as controls. Both cases and controls were from the same company in southwest China, and each of them was requested to complete a questionnaire. Blood samples were drawn for genomic DNA extraction from each participant. The genotyping of TNF-α (-238 and -308) and IL-1RA (+2018) was performed using polymerase chain reaction-based restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and SYBR green-based quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), respectively. Unconditional logistic regression model was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and their 95% confidential intervals (CI) for SNPs. Results No significant differences were found between cases and controls in particles exposure length, body mass index (BMI), and status of smoking and alcohol consumption except for age (P=0.001) and blood type (P=0.042). The frequencies of TNF-α (-238) and IL-1RA (+2018) genotypes in cases were significantly different from those in controls, (P=0.001 and P=0.002, respectively), while a borderline significant difference was found in the frequencies of TNF-α (-308) between cases and controls (P=0.063). The variants of three SNPs increased the risk of silicosis in the Chinese workers exposed to silica particles. The adjusted ORs of TNF-α (-308), TNF-α (-238) and IL-1RA (+2018) were 2.8 (95% CI: 1.1-7.5), 20.9 (95% CI: 1.8-236.4) and 4.0 (95% CI: 1.6-10.1), respectively. Conclusion It is suggested that cytokine polymorphisms of TNF- α (-238, -308) and IL-1RA (+2018) are associated with the risk of silicosis in the Chinese workers exposed to silica particles.
