1Prevalence of Thyroid Nodules and Its Relationship with Iodine Status in Shanghai:a Population-based Study显示文摘Objective This study was designed to evaluate the prevalence of thyroid nodules(TNs) and its relationship with urine iodine concentrations(UICs) after the regional rapid economic growth and lifestyle changes. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted in the general population aged 15-69 years. A questionnaire regarding general and personal characteristics and relevant information was administered. Ultrasonography of the thyroid was performed, and serum triiodothyronine(T3), tetraiodothyronine(T4), serum thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH), free triiodothyronine(FT3), free tetraiodothyronine(FT4), thyroglobulin antibody(Tg Ab), thyroid peroxidase antibody(TPOAb), and TSH receptor antibody(TRAb) levels were measured for each individual subject. Results The prevalence rates of TNs in the whole population, females and males were 27.76%, 34.04%, and 21.60%, respectively. The prevalence of multiple nodules increased with age, whereas the prevalence peaks differed between males and females. The median UICs in the whole population and females with non-TNs were higher than those of subjects with TNs(P=0.0035, P=0.0068). The median UICs in subjects with a single TN were higher than those in subjects with multiple TNs(P=0.0164, P=0.0127). The result showed a U-shaped curve relationship between UIC and prevalence of TNs. The prevalence of TNs was the lowest when the UIC was 140-400 μg/L. Conclusion The prevalence of TNs was nearly 30% and increased with age. The relationship between UIC and prevalence of TNs is U-shaped, with an increase in risk when the UIC was <140 μg/L and >400 μg/L. 3Study on gastric cancer blood plasma based on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy combined with multivariate analysis显示文摘A surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) method combined with multivariate analysis was developed for non-invasive gastric cancer detection. SERS measurements were performed on two groups of blood plasma samples: one group from 32 gastric patients and the other group from 33 healthy volunteers. Tentative assignments of the Raman bands in the measured SERS spectra suggest interesting cancer-specific biomolecular changes, including an increase in the relative amounts of nucleic acid, collagen, phospholipids and phenylalanine and a decrease in the percentage of amino acids and saccharide in the blood plasma of gastric cancer patients as compared with those of healthy subjects. Principal components analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) were employed to develop effective diagnostic algorithms for classification of SERS spectra between normal and cancer plasma with high sensitivity (79.5%) and specificity (91%). A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was employed to assess the accuracy of diagnostic algorithms based on PCA-LDA. 4Influence of He-Ne laser irradiation on the excision repair of cyclobutyl pyrimidine dimers in the wheat DNA显示文摘Using agarose gel electrophoresis and T4-endo-deoxyribonuclease-V, which is a kind of restriction endonu-clease of cyclobutyl pyrimidine dimer (CPD), the impacts of He-Ne laser (5mW·mm-2) irradiation on DNA excision repair capacity in damaged wheat cells induced by enhanced ultraviolet-B (10.08kJ·m-2·d-1) radiation were studied. The results indicated that the content of endonuclease sensitive sites (ESS) was reduced by He-Ne laser irradiation, which formed in cells irradiated by enhanced ultraviolet-B. 5Thyroid function reference ranges during pregnancy in a large Chinese population and comparison with current guidelines显示文摘Background: A correct thyroid function reference range is important for the accurate diagnosis of thyroid disease during pregnancy. However, there is no consensus on whether thyroid function reference ranges in Chinese population should follow the America Thyroid Association (ATA) guidelines. This study aimed to establish a thyroid function reference range more suited to the Chinese population by evaluating the current thyroid function reference range in pregnant Chinese women and comparing it to the ATA guidelines. Methods: A total of 52,027 pregnant women were enrolled from January 2013 to December 2016. Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (FT4), and thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) levels were tested during the first and third trimesters of pregnancy. Reference ranges of TSH and FT4 were established from the 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles of the TPOAb-negative population of women. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare thyroid hormones between the TPOAb-positive and TPOAbnegative groups. Results: We obtained that the TSH reference ranges were 0.03 to 3.52 mU/L and 0.39 to 3.67 mU/L, and the FT4 reference ranges were 11.7 to 19.7 pmol/L and 9.1 to 14.4pmol/L, in the firstand third trimester, respectively. If we used the 2011 ATA criteria about 7.0% and 4.0% pregnant women would be over diagnosed in first and third trimester, respectively, compared with local population thyroid hormone reference. When we compared our local criteria with the new 2017 ATA criteria, about 1.2% and 0.8% pregnant women would have a missed diagnosis in first and third trimester, respectively. Conclusions: Based on our data, which is in line with the current ATA guidelines, a population-based thyroid function reference range would be the first choice for diagnosis of thyroid disease during pregnancy in China. 9Effectiveness of fluidized pellet bed for removing soluble contaminants显示文摘Fluidized pellet bed(FPB) has been successfully applied in water and wastewater treatment. However,the removal mechanism of contaminants especially the soluble ones,is still unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of FPB reactor for removing soluble contaminants from synthetic wastewater. By only coagulation through jar test operation with addition of polyaluminium chloride(PACl) as primary coagulant and polyacryamide(PAM) as coagulant-aid,the removals of soluble chemical oxygen demand(COD) ,total phosphorus(TP) ,and NH4+-N were found to be only 2.2%-7.5%,5.7%-25.5%,and 9.9%-18.5%,respectively. However,by FPB operation under the same dosage of coagulants,these values increased to 82.7%,37.2%,and 50%,indicating that the formation of pellets in the FPB effectively enhanced the removal of soluble contaminants. By careful comparison of the settleablility and filterability of the pollutants after coagulation,the originally soluble contaminants could be divided into three groups,namely:(1) coagulated-and-settleable,(2) coagulated-but-nonsettleable,and(3) uncoagulable. It was found that not only the first two groups but also a large part of the third group could be effectively removed by FPB operation. 10The Association of Socioeconomic Status with the Burden of Cataract-related Blindness and the Effect of Ultraviolet Radiation Exposure: An Ecological Study显示文摘Objective To assess the association of socioeconomic status with the burden of cataract blindness in terms of year lived with disability(YLD) rates and to determine whether ultraviolet radiation(UVR) levels modify the effect of socioeconomic status on this health burden.Methods National and subnational age-standardized YLD rates associated with cataract-related blindness were derived from the Global Burden of Disease(GBD) study 2017. The human development index(HDI) from the Human Development Report was used as a measure of socioeconomic status.Estimated ground-level UVR exposure was obtained from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument(OMI)dataset of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA).Results Across 185 countries, socioeconomic status was inversely associated with the burden of cataract blindness. Countries with a very high HDI had an 84% lower age-standardized YLD rate [95%confidence interval(CI): 60%–93%, P < 0.001] than countries with a low HDI;for high-HDI countries, the proportion was 76%(95% CI: 53%–88%, P < 0.001), and for medium-HDI countries, the proportion was48%(95% CI: 15%–68%, P = 0.010;P for trend < 0.001). The interaction analysis showed that UVR exposure played an interactive role in the association between socioeconomic status and cataract blindness burden(P value for interaction = 0.047).Conclusion Long-term high-UVR exposure amplifies the association of poor socioeconomic status with the burden of cataract-related blindness. 11Multicenter Clinical Study for Evaluation of Efficacy and Safety of Transdermal Fentanyl Matrix Patch in Treatment of Moderate to Severe Cancer Pain in 474 Chinese Cancer Patients显示文摘Objective: Although a new matrix formulation fentanyl has been used throughout the world for cancer pain management, few data about its efficacy and clinical outcomes associated with its use in Chinese patients have been obtained. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of the new system in Chinese patients with moderate to severe cancer pain. Methods: A total of 474 patients with moderate to severe cancer pain were enrolled in this study and were treated with the new transdermal fentanyl matrix patch (TDF) up to 2 weeks. All the patients were asked to record pain intensity, side effects, quality of life (QOL), adherence and global satisfaction. The initial dose of fentanyl was 25 ?g/h titrated with opioid or according to National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines. Transdermal fentanyl was changed every three days. Results: After 2 weeks. The mean pain intensity of the 459 evaluated patients decreased significantly from 5.63?1.26 to 2.03?1.46 (P<0.0001). The total remission rate was 91.29%, of which moderate remission rate 53.16%, obvious remission rate 25.49% and complete remission rate 12.64%. The rate of adverse events was 33.75%, 18.78% of which were moderate and 3.80% were severe. The most frequent adverse events were constipation and nausea. No fatal events were observed. The quality of life was remarkably improved after the treatment (P<0.0001). 14Production of Free Amino Acid and Short Peptide Fertilizer from Rapeseed Meal Fermentation Using Bacillus flexus NJNPD41 for Promoting Plant Growth显示文摘Free amino acids and short peptides(FAPS)that play an important role in plant nutrition can be extracted from rapeseed meal(RSM)by microbial enzymolysis.The enzymolytic activity of one bacterial strain isolated from RSM for the production of FAPS fertilizer(FAPSF)via solid-state fermentation,as well as its detoxification activity for isothiocyanates and oxazolidinethione,was investigated in this study.The strain NJNPD41 isolated from RSM piled-soil possessed effective proteolytic activity and was identified as Bacillus flexus on the basis of its morphological,physiological,and biochemical properties,as well as 16S rDNA analysis.Compared to the uninoculated control,inoculation with the strain NJNPD41 significantly increased the yield of total free amino acids and short peptides by 115%and decreased the content of isothiocyanates and oxazolidinethione by 53%and 60%,respectively,after solid-state fermentation.The pot and field experiments showed that FAPSF significantly promoted eggplant growth and enhanced the fruit yield and quality of eggplant compared to the control.In conclusion,this study provided a novel method for the high-value utilization of RSM to produce high-quality and low-toxicity FAPSF using the newly isolated strain B.flexus NJNPD41.LIU Hongjun ZHONG Xi HUANG Yan QIAO Cece SHAO Cheng LI Rong SHEN Qirong 2018Pedosphere2018,28,2:5
15Interactions and Biological Activity of Rare Earth Perchlorate Complexes with Alanine and Imidazole显示文摘The interactions of nine rare earth perchlorate complexes with alanine and imidazole were studied in methanol. The general formulae of these compounds are RE(Ala) 2Im(ClO 4) 3· n H 2O(RE=Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Yb) and La(Ala) 3Im(ClO 4) 3·H 2O, respectively. The composition and structure of the prepared compounds were determined by the chemical analysis, elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, UV, FS spectroscopy, X ray powder diffraction, 1H NMR and solubility. The thermal decomposition processes of these complexes were studied on the basis of TG DTG. 17Cells in G_2/M phase increased in human nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell line by EBV-LMP1 through activation of NF-кB and AP-1显示文摘Although previous studies showed that the principal oncoprotein encoded by Epstein-Barr virus, latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1), could induce the nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells in G2/M phase increased, littleis known about the target molecules and mechanisms. The present study demonstrated that LMP1 couldinduce the accumulation of p53 protein and upregulate its transactivity in a dose dependent manner, whichresulted in the decrease of the kinase activity of cdc2/cyclin B complex and inducing arrest at G2/M phasethrough the activation of NF-kB and AP-1 signaling pathways, and the effect of NF-kB was more obviousthan that of AP-1. 18Antrodia Cinnamomea ameliorates neointimal formation by inhibiting infl ammatory cell infi ltration through downregulation of adhesion molecule expression in vitro and in vivo显示文摘The increased vascular infl ammation is a key event in the development of atherosclerotic lesions.Antrodia cinnamomea has been shown to promote anticancerogenic activity through decreasing infl ammation.However,the potential role of A.cinnamomea in cardiovascular diseases remains unexplored.Herein,using carotid arterial ligation models,we found that ethanol extract from A.cinnamomea(EEAC)signifi cantly inhibited neointimal hyperplasia in a dose-dependent manner,accompanied with the reduced expression of activated p65 and infl ammatory cytokines.We also show that EEAC ameliorated TNF-α-induced phosphorylation of p65 and pro-infl ammatory cytokine expression in both vascular smooth muscle cells(VSMCs)and macrophages in vitro.Mechanistically,EEAC suppressed expression levels of intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1)and vascular cell adhesion molecule(VCAM-1)in VSMCs,which attenuates the ability of monocytes/macrophages adhesion to VSMCs.Furthermore,the expression level of these adhesion molecules and infi ltration of monocytes/macrophages were also decreased in neointimal VSMCs of arteries pretreated with EEAC.Altogether,our results reveal a novel function of A.cinnamomea in suppressing vascular infl ammation upon ligation injury during neointimal formation,likely through inhibition of infl ammatory cell infi ltration via downregulating the adhesion molecules in VSMCs.Thus,A.cinnamomea may offer a pharmacological therapy to slow down disease progression in patients with vascular injury.Yan Zhang Aijin Ma Hao Xi Ning Chen Rong Wang Chenhui Yang Jinbang Chen Pin Lü Fuping Zheng Wenyi Kang 2021Food Science and Human Wellness2021,10,4:4
