1Infantile hepatic hemangioendothelioma:A clinicopathologic study in a Chinese population显示文摘AIM:To investigate whether the clinicopathologic features of infantile hemangioendothelioma(IHE) of the liver in a Chinese population are similar to the features observed in other races.METHODS:The clinical data,radiological findings,histopathological changes and outcome of 12 cases of IHE diagnosed by the Department of Pathology,West China Hospital over the last 10 years were analyzed retrospectively.Immunohistochemical studies were carried out using antibodies against CD31,CD34,Factor Ⅷ,cytokeratin 8 and cytokeratin 18.RESULTS:The 12 patients were aged from fetal to 5 years(three males and nine females).The tumor was presented with different clinical manifestations,mainly as an asymptomatic,palpable,upper abdominal mass,except for the two fetuses who were detected antena-tally by ultrasound.In one patient,this presentation was accompanied by an initial severe pneumothorax.No symptoms of congestive heart failure were present and neither congenital abnormalities nor vascular tumors in the skin or other organs were found.Laboratory abnormalities included leukocytosis(40%),anemia(60%),thrombocytosis(60%),hyperbilirubinemia(16.7%),abnormal liver function(50%) and increased α-fetoprotein(80%).Based on radiological findings and gross specimens,the tumor presented as a solitary lesion or a multifocal space-occupying lesion.The tumor size ranged from 5.0 cm × 3.5 cm × 2.0 cm to 13.8 cm × 9.0 cm × 7.7 cm,and the 0.2-1.1 cm nodules were diffusely distributed within the multifocal tumor.Seven cases were surgically resected,three cases underwent biopsy and the two fetuses were aborted.Histologically,nine cases were classified as typeⅠ and three as type Ⅱ,presenting aggressive morphologic features,immature vessels,active mitosis and necrosis.An inflammatory component,predominantly eosinophilic granulocytes,sometimes obscured the nature of the tumor.Ten patients are alive after a follow-up of 1-9 years.Based on immunohistochemistry,the endothelial cells in all cases were positive for CD31,CD34 and polyclonal factor Ⅷ antigen,whereas the scattered hyperplasia bile ducts were positive for cytokeratin 8 and cytokeratin 18.CONCLUSION:The clinical manifestations of IHE are non-specific.There is no significant correlation between histological type and prognosis.The clinicopathologic features of IHE in Chinese patients may provide a clue to further evidence-based studies.Zhang Zhang,Hui-Jiao Chen,Wen-Juan Yang,Hong Bu,Bing Wei,Xiao-Yu Long,Jing Fu,Rui Zhang,Yun-Bi Ni,Hong-Ying Zhang,Department of Pathology,West China Hospital,Sichuan University,Guoxuexiang 37,Chengdu 610041,Sichuan Province,China 2010World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,36:16
2Novel adaptive neural control of flexible air-breathing hypersonic vehicles based on sliding mode differentiator显示文摘A novel adaptive neural control strategy is exploited for the longitudinal dynamics of a generic flexible air-breathing hypersonic vehicle(FAHV).By utilizing functional decomposition method, the dynamics of FAHV is decomposed into the velocity subsystem and the altitude subsystem.For each subsystem, only one neural network is employed for the unknown function approximation.To further reduce the computational burden, minimal-learning parameter(MLP)technology is used to estimate the norm of ideal weight vectors rather than their elements.By introducing sliding mode differentiator(SMD) to estimate the newly defined variables, there is no need for the strict-feedback form and virtual controller.Hence the developed control law is considerably simpler than the ones derived from back-stepping scheme.Finally, simulation studies are made to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control approach in spite of the flexible effects, system uncertainties and varying disturbances.Bu Xiangwei Wu Xiaoyan Ma Zhen Zhang Rui 2015Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2015,28,4:11
3Observations of atmospheric pollutants at Lhasa during 2014-2015:Pollution status and the influence of meteorological factors显示文摘Atmospheric pollutants including SO_2, NO_2, CO, O_3 and inhalable particulate matter(PM2.5 and PM10) were monitored continuously from March 2014 to February 2015 to investigate characteristics of air pollution at Lhasa, Tibetan Plateau. Species exhibited similar seasonal variations except O_3, with the peaks in winter but low valleys in summer. The maximum O_3 concentration was observed in spring, followed by summer, autumn, and winter. The positive correlation between O_3 and PM10 in spring indicated similar sources of them, and was assumed to be turbulent transport. Temperature was the dominant meteorological factor for most species in spring. High temperature accelerates O_3 photochemistry, and favors air disturbance which is conductive to dust resuspension in spring. Relative humidity(RH) and atmospheric pressure were the main meteorological factors in summer. RH showed negative correlations with species, while atmospheric pressure posed opposite situation. Wind speed(WS) was the dominant meteorological factor in autumn, the negative correlations between WS and species indicated diffusion by wind. Most species showed non-significant correlations with meteorological factors in winter, indicating the dependence of pollution on source emission rather than restriction by meteorology. Pollution weather character indicated that emissions were from biomass burning and dust suspension, and meteorological factors also played an important role. Air stream injection from the stratosphere was observed during O_3 pollution period. Air parcels from Southwest Asia were observed during air pollution period in winter. 4Treatment results and prognostic factors of patients undergoing postoperative radiotherapy for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma显示文摘Postoperative radiotherapy (PRT) is widely advocated for patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck that are considered to be at high risk of recurrence after surgical resection. The aims of this study were to evaluate the treatment outcomes of PRT for patients with laryngeal carcinoma and to identify the value of several prognostic factors. We reviewed the records of 256 patients treated for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma between January 1993 and December 2005. Disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Log-rank test was employed to identify significant prognostic factors for DFS and OS. The Cox proportional hazards model was applied to identify covariates significantly associated with the aforementioned endpoints. Our results showed the 3-, 5-, and 10-year DFS for all patients were 69.9%, 59.5%, and 34.9%, respectively. The 3-, 5-, and 10-year OS rates were 80.8%, 68.6%, and 38.8%, respectively. Significant prognostic factors for both DFS and OS on univariate analysis were grade, primary site, T stage, N stage, overall stage, lymph node metastasis, overall treatment times of radiation, the interval between surgery and radiotherapy, and radiotherapy equipment. Favorable prognostic factors for both DFS and OS on multivariate analysis were lower overall stage, no cervical lymph node metastasis, and using 60Co as radiotherapy equipment. 7A new luminescent metal-organic framework for selective sensing of nitroaromatic explosives显示文摘A microporous luminescent metal-organic framework [Zn_4L_2(H_2O)_2].(H_2O)_m(DMA)_n(1)(H_4L=5,5'-((1H-pyrazole-3,5-dicarbonyl)bis(azanediyl))diisophthalic acid, DMA=N,N-dimethylacetamide) was synthesized and characterized by infrared radiation(IR), thermogravimetric analyses(TGA), powder X-ray diffraction spectra(PXRD) and X-ray diffraction. Complex 1has a three dimensional(3D) framework, which can be simplified as 5,5,5,5-c net with the Schlfi symbol of {43.64.83}{44.65.8}{45.65}2. This luminescent metal-organic framework(MOF) shows selectively sensitive to nitrobenzene and series of nitroaromatic explosives such as 4-nitrotoluene, 1,4-dinitrobenzene, 1,3-dinitrobenzene and 2,4-dinitrotoluene, and exhibits well recyclability. 8Factors associated with overall survival in early gastric cancer patients who underwent additional surgery after endoscopic submucosal dissection显示文摘BACKGROUND Controversy exists about the benefit of additional surgery after endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)for early gastric cancer(EGC).AIM To examine risk factors for overall survival(OS)after additional surgery in patients with EGC who initially underwent ESD.METHODS This was a retrospective analysis of patients with EGC who underwent additional surgery after ESD at the Beijing Friendship Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University between August 2012 and August 2019.OS was the primary outcome.Lymph node metastasis and residual tumor were secondary outcomes.Logistic regression models and Kaplan-Meier curves were used for further analysis.RESULTS Forty-two patients were evaluated,including 35(83.3%)males and 7(16.7%)females.The mean age was 62(range,32-82)years.Male sex[hazard ratio(HR)=21.906,95%confidence interval(CI):3.762-229.250;P=0.039),T1b invasion(HR=3.965,95%CI:1.109-17.432;P=0.047),undifferentiated tumor(HR=9.455,95%CI:0.946-29.482;P=0.049),lymph node metastasis(HR=2.126,95%CI:0.002-13.266;P=0.031),and residual tumor(HR=4.275,95%CI:1.049-27.420;P=0.043)were independently associated with OS.The follow-up duration was 4-81 mo(median:50.7 mo).OS was 77.0±12.1 mo(95%CI:53.3-100.7 mo).The 3-year and 5-year OS rates were 94.1%and 85%,respectively.CONCLUSION Male sex,T1b invasion,undifferentiated tumor,lymph node metastasis,and residual tumor are independently associated with OS in patients with EGC who underwent additional surgery after ESD.Zhi Zheng Fan-Di Bu Hao Chen Jie Yin Rui Xu Jun Cai Jun Zhang Hong-Wei Yao Zhong-Tao Zhang 2021World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,10:2
9The transcription factors TLR1 and TLR2 negatively regulate trichome density and artemisinin levels in Artemisia annua显示文摘The important antimalarial drug artemisinin is biosynthesized and stored in Artemisia annua glandular trichomes and the artemisinin content correlates with trichome density;however,the factors affecting trichome development are largely unknown.Here,we demonstrate that the A.annua R2R3 MYB transcription factor TrichomeLess Regulator 1(TLR1)negatively regulates trichome development.In A.annua,TLR1 overexpression lines had 44.7%–64.0%lower trichome density and 11.5%–49.4%lower artemisinin contents and TLR1-RNAi lines had 33%–93.3%higher trichome density and 32.2%–84.0%higher artemisinin contents compared with non-transgenic controls.TLR1 also negatively regulates the expression of anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway genes in A.annua.When heterologously expressed in Arabidopsis thaliana,TLR1 interacts with GLABROUS3a,positive regulator of trichome development,and represses trichome development.Yeast two-hybrid and pull-down assays indicated that TLR1 interacts with the WUSCHEL homeobox(WOX)protein AaWOX1,which interacts with the LEAFY-like transcription factor TLR2.TLR2 overexpression in Arabidopsis and A.annua showed that TLR2 reduces trichome development by reducing gibberellin levels.Furthermore,artemisinin contents were 19%–43%lower in TLR2-overexpressing A.annua plants compared to controls.These data indicate that TLR1 and TLR2 negatively regulate trichome density by lowering gibberellin levels and may enable approaches to enhance artemisinin yields.Zongyou Lv JinXing Li Shi Qiu Fei Qi Hang Su Qitao Bu Rui Jiang Kexuan Tang Lei Zhang Wansheng Chen 2022Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2022,64,6:2

18Measuring Viscoelastic Properties of Living Cells显示文摘Precise measurement of mechanical properties of living cells is important in understanding their mechanics-biology relations.In this study,we adopted the atomic force microscope to measure the creep deformation and stress relaxation of six different human cell lines.We examined whether the measured creep and relaxation trajectories satisfy a verification relation derived based on the linear viscoelastic theory.We compared the traditional spring-dashpot and the newly developed power-law-type constitutive relations in fitting the experimental measurements.We found that the human normal liver(L02),hepatic cancer(HepG2),hepatic stellate(LX2)and gastric cancer(NCI-N87)cell lines are linear viscoelastic materials,and human normal gastric(GES-1)and gastric cancer(SGC7901)cell lines are nonlinear due to failing in satisfying the verification relation for linear viscoelastic theory.The three-parameter power-law-type const计utive relation can fit the experimentai measurements better than that of the five-parameter classical spring-dashpot.Yang Bu Long Li Chendong Yang Rui Li Jizeng Wang 2019Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2019,32,5:0
