| 1 | Functions and mechanisms of the CBL-CIPK signaling system in plant response to abiotic stress显示文摘To cope with environmental stimuli, plants have evolved precise regulatory mechanisms to perceive, transduce and respond to abiotic stresses that can negatively affect growth and development. The CBL-CIPK signaling system is a newly emerging plant-specific and Ca2+-dependent network mediating abiotic stress tolerance. CBLs may sense a Ca2+ signature triggered by abiotic stresses, and have specific interactions with novel CIPK-type kinases after binding Ca2+. The CBL/CIPK complexes may post-translationally phosphory-late downstream target proteins to regulate abiotic stress tolerance in a cell or tissue-specific manner. In some cases transcription factors are induced to activate stress-responsive genes that control adaptation reactions. The CBL-CIPK signaling system exhibits specificity, diversity and complexity. Meanwhile, cross talk also exists in the CBL-CIPK signaling. To date, significant progress has been made in the role of the CBL-CIPK signaling system in responding to salt, low K+ and to high pH, which will provide a fast and efficient method of molecular design breeding combined with the CBL/CIPK engineering of crop plants, for enhanced tolerance to abiotic stresses. | 2 | SEASONAL FORECASTS OF TROPICAL CYCLONE ACTIVITY OVER THE WESTERN NORTH PACIFIC:A REVIEW显示文摘The attempt of this article is to provide a literature review on recent development and progress in seasonal forecasts for tropical cyclone(TC) activity over the western North Pacific(WNP). Since the predictability of seasonal TC activity mainly comes from the slowly-evolving sea surface temperature(SST) conditions and the large-scale atmospheric circulation teleconnection patterns, our current understanding on the relationships between the interannual TC variability and tropical SST forcing and variations of various climate modes is first reviewed. It serves as the scientific basis and gives us ideas how predictable the seasonal TC activity is. The main body of the article focuses on an overview of the forecast approaches and methodologies, including statistical and dynamical models and their combination, currently used in seasonal forecasts for TCs over the WNP, and an initial assessment of their prediction skills in the past decade or so. Some outstanding issues, including the intrinsic limitation of predictability due to various uncertainties and the areas for future developments, are also briefly discussed. | 3 | The Optimization of Ultrasonic Extraction Technology of Total Flavonoids in Leaves of Mallotus apelta by Response Surface Analysis Methodology显示文摘[Objectives] Response surface analysis methodology was used to optimize the extraction technology of total flavonoids from Mallotus apelta leaves. [Methods] The total flavonoids were extracted using ultrasonic assisted ethanol extraction,and extraction rate of total flavonoids was taken as evaluation index. On the basis of single-factor experiment,Box-Behnken response surface methodology was employed for selecting the optimum extraction process. [Results]The optimum extraction conditions of total flavonoids were as follows: 75% of ethanol concentration,1∶ 25 of ratio of material to liquid,31 min of ultrasonic time. Under these conditions,the extraction rate of total flavonoids was 1. 115%.[Conclusions] The extraction process obtained by response surface methodology was stable,reasonable,accurate and reliable. | 4 | Statistical characteristics of the double ridges of subtropical high in the Northern Hemisphere显示文摘The generality and some climatological charac- teristics of the double ridge systems of subtropical high (SH) are investigated statistically by using the daily NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data from 1958 to 1998. The results show that the SH double-ridge event is a common phenomenon in the Northern Hemisphere, with the distinct seasonal and re- gional features, that is, the majority of SH double-ridge geneses concentrate over the eastern North India Ocean- western North Pacific as well as the central North Pacific in the period from mid-July to mid-September. Especially over the western North Pacific subtropics, the SH double-ridge events are extremely active. It is found that the life cycle of most double-ridge events of western Pacific subtropical high (WPSH) is shorter but some still last longer. The WPSH dou- ble-ridge events occur most frequently from July to Septem- ber, while there is a paucity of occurrences during Novem- ber-March. Also, it is shown that the WPSH double-ridge events have a strong interannual variation with a certain periodicity which possesses a remarkably abrupt change in the mid-1970s. | 5 | Role of ENSO in the interannual relationship between Tibetan Plateau winter snow cover and Northwest Pacific tropical cyclone genesis frequency显示文摘Previous studies have revealed a significantly negative correlation between prior winter snow cover over the Tibetan Plateau(TPSC) and tropical cyclone genesis frequency(TCF) over the western North Pacific(WNP) in the following typhoon season. This study revisited this relationship based on long-term observational data. The results showed that the interannual correlation between TCF over the WNP and TPSC experienced a shift in the early 1990 s. This correlation is significant during only 1993–2012 and is considerably weak during 1976–1992. The possible reasons causing the shift were examined further, and the results demonstrated that the central Pacific(CP) El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation(ENSO) has played a vital role in intensifying the interannual relationship between TCF over the WNP and TPSC since the early 1990 s. During 1993–2012, TPSC was negatively related to CP ENSO. When TPSC was higher than(lower than) normal, CP ENSO was often in its cold(warm) phase. Such a combination remarkably enhances the relationship of TPSC with the zonal land-sea thermal difference and thus with the summer monsoon over the WNP. Additionally, it enhances the modulation of TPSC on the dynamical environments controlling TCF. As a result, the linkage between TPSC and TCF was significantly strengthened in this period. In sharp contrast, due to the weak relationship between TPSC and ENSO followed by the weak modulation of TPSC on the summer monsoon over the WNP and the dynamical environment during 1976–1992, the linkage between TPSC and TCF was weak during this time period. The results from additional dynamical diagnostic analyses further showed that during 1993–2012 CP ENSO modulated the barotropic energy conversion of zonal winds over the WNP, contributing to the intensified relationship between TPSC and TCF. | 6 | Pulping performance of transgenic poplar with depressed Caffeoyl-CoA O-methyltransferase显示文摘This paper evaluated pulping performance of 3-year-old field-grown transgenic poplar (Populus tremula × Populus alba). The transgenic poplar with anti-sense CCoAOMT had an about 13% decreased lignin content, in which a slight increment was found in S/G ratio. Chemical analysis showed that the transgenic poplar had significantly less benezene-ethanol extractive than that of control wood, but no significant differences were found in contents of ash, cold water extractive, hot water extractive, 1% NaOH extractive, holocellulose, pentosans and cellulose. Fiber assay demonstrated that down-regulation of CCoAOMT expression improved the fiber quality in transgenic poplar. | 8 | Optimal Design of Bicycle Frame Parameters Considering Biomechanics显示文摘With the development of technology and the change of market demands,the trend in middle and high grade bicycle manufacturing is developed toward small-volume,multi-species,and customer-oriented production.Therefore,human element should be fully considered in design so that the bicycle has the best cycling performance for the specific rider.Currently,customized design is difficult to achieve since feature parameters of the rider are not included in the design.The design of bicycle frame is the most important in bicycle design.The relative positions among the saddle,handlebar and central axis are defined as the bicycle three-pivot,they are the main parameters in bicycle frame design.In conventional bicycle design,frame parameters are merely relevant to bicycle types.On the basis of the principles of biomechanics and ergonomics knowledge,this paper presents a design method for bicycle three-pivot considering feature parameters of the rider by dynamic simulation.Firstly,a dynamic model of rider-bicycle system is built for a special rider,and a serial of simulation experiments is designed by uniform test method.Then,a mathematical model is built between the three-pivot position and the square of lower limb muscle stress by using simulation and regression analysis of the rider-bicycle system.The optimal three-pivot position parameters are obtained by setting the minimal of the square of the lower limb muscle stress as the objective.Therefore,the optimal parameters are gained for the specific rider.Finally,various results are gained for different riders based on the same design process.The function between feature parameters of the rider and the optimum three-pivot position parameters is built by regression.Bicycle design considering biomechanics can be divided into three main steps:calculating the three-pivot position,designing the geometrical structure of the bicycle frame and analyzing frame strength,and selecting appropriate parts and assembling the bicycle.Bicycle design considering biomechanics changes the conventional bicycle design and realizes customized design by considering human element in the design process. | XIANG Zhongxia XU Ruifen BU Yan WU Xiaofan | 2011 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2011,24,1: | 3 |

| 13 | Virus-induced silencing of a tobacco deoxyhypusine synthase gene显示文摘A cDNA fragment corresponding to deoxyhy-pusine synthase gene NbDHS was isolated and cloned into potato virus X (PVX) vector for functional analysis in Nico-tiana benthamiana by using virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS). Plants agroinfected with recombinant virus vector PVX-NbDHS exhibited an increase in leaf biomass, delay in natural leaf senescence and flowering time, and decrease in leaf chlorophyll content. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR and Northern analysis showed that the transcript level of DHS was significantly lower in PVX-NbDHS infected plants. At the same time, the expression for eIF-5A, the target proteins of DHS in N. benthamiana, was concomitantly suppressed by semi-quantitative RT-PCR and Western analysis. From the phenotypic feature of the infected plants and the reduced expression abundance of DHS and eIF-5A, we concluded that NbDHS plays important roles in plant growth, development and senescence.
