1Miniature Fluorescence Microscopy for Imaging Brain Activity in Freely-Behaving Animals显示文摘An ultimate goal of neuroscience is to decipher the principles underlying neuronal information processing at the molecular, cellular, circuit, and system levels. The advent of miniature fluorescence microscopy has furthered the quest by visualizing brain activities and structural dynamics in animals engaged in self-determined behaviors. In this brief review,we summarize recent advances in miniature fluorescence microscopy for neuroscience, focusing mostly on two mainstream solutions-miniature single-photon microscopy, and miniature two-photon microscopy. We discuss their technical advantages and limitations as well as unmet challenges for future improvement.Examples of preliminary applications are also presented to reflect on a new trend of brain imaging in experimental paradigms involving body movements, long and complex protocols, and even disease progression and aging.Shiyuan Chen Ziehen Wang Dong Zhang Aiming Wang Liangyi Chen Heping Cheng Runlong Wu 2020Neuroscience Bulletin2020,36,10:2
2Organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite scintillators for mixed field radiation detection显示文摘Sensitive and fast detection of neutrons and gamma rays is vital for homeland security,high-energy physics, and proton therapy.Fast-neutron detectors rely on light organic scintillators,andγ-ray detectors use heavy inorganic scintillators and semiconductors.Efficient mixed-field detection using a single material is highly challenging due to their contradictory requirements. Here we report hybrid perovskites(C_(8)H_(12)N)_(2)Pb(Br_(0.95)Cl_(0.05))_(4)that combine light organic cations and heavy inorganic skeletons at a molecular level to achieve unprecedented performance for mixed-field radiation detection.High neutron absorption due to a high density of hydrogen, strong radiative recombination within the highly confined[PbX_(6)]^(4-)layer,and sub-nanometer distance between absorption sites and radiative centers, enable a light yield of 41000 photons/MeV,detection pulse width of 2.97 ns and extraordinary linearity response toward both fast neutrons andγ-rays,outperforming commonly used fast-neutron scintillators.Neutron energy spectrum,time-of-flight based fast-neutron/γ-ray discrimination and neutron yield monitoring were all successfully achieved using(C_(8)H_(12)N)_(2)Pb(Br_(0.95)Cl_(0.05))_(4)detectors.We further demonstrate the monitoring of reaction kinetics and total power of a nuclear fusion reaction. We envision that molecular hybridized scintillators open a new avenue for mixed-field radiation detection and imaging.Mengling Xia Guangda Niu Linyue Liu Runlong Gao Tong Jin Pengying Wan Weicheng Pan Xianpeng Zhang Zuoxiang Xie Sam Teale Zenghua Cai Jiajun Luo Shan Zhao Haodi Wu Shiyou Chen Zhiping Zheng Qingguo Xie Xiaoping Ouyang Edward HSargent Jiang Tang 2022InfoMat2022,4,9:2
3Oxidized organic molecules in the tropical free troposphere over Amazonia显示文摘New particle formation(NPF) in the tropical free troposphere(FT) is a globally important source of cloud condensation nuclei, affecting cloud properties and climate. Oxidized organic molecules(OOMs)produced from biogenic volatile organic compounds are believed to contribute to aerosol formation in the tropical FT, but without direct chemical observations. We performed in situ molecular-level OOMs measurements at the Bolivian station Chacaltaya at 5240 m above sea level, on the western edge of Amazonia. For the first time, we demonstrate the presence of OOMs, mainly with 4–5 carbon atoms, in both gas-phase and particle-phase(in terms of mass contribution) measurements in tropical FT air from Amazonia. These observations, combined with air mass history analyses, indicate that the observed OOMs are linked to isoprene emitted from the rainforests hundreds of kilometers away. Based on particle-phase measurements, we find that these compounds can contribute to NPF, at least the growth of newly formed nanoparticles, in the tropical FT on a continental scale. Thus, our study is a fundamental and significant step in understanding the aerosol formation process in the tropical FT.Qiaozhi Zha Diego Aliaga Radovan Krejci Victoria ASinclair Cheng Wu Giancarlo Ciarelli Wiebke Scholz Liine Heikkinen Eva Partoll Yvette Gramlich Wei Huang Markus Leiminger Joonas Enroth Otso Perakyla Runlong Cai Xuemeng Chen Alkuin Maximilian Koenig Fernando Velarde Isabel Moreno Tuukka Petaja Paulo Artaxo Paolo Laj Armin Hansel Samara Carbone Markku Kulmala Marcos Andrade Douglas Worsnop Claudia Mohr Federico Bianchi 2024National Science Review2024,11,1:0
4MouseVenue3D:A Markerless Three-Dimension Behavioral Tracking System for Matching Two-Photon Brain Imaging in Free-Moving Mice显示文摘Understanding the connection between brain and behavior in animals requires precise monitoring of their behaviors in three-dimensional(3-D)space.However,there is no available three-dimensional behavior capture system that focuses on rodents. Here,we present MouseVenue3D,an automated and low-cost system for the efficient capture of 3-D skeleton trajectories in markerless rodents. We improved the most time-consuming step in 3-D behavior capturing by developing an automatic calibration module. Then,we validated this process in behavior recognition tasks, and showed that 3-D behavioral data achieved higher accuracy than 2-D data.Subsequently,MouseVenue3D was combined with fast high-resolution miniature two-photon microscopy for synchronous neural recording and behavioral tracking in the freely-moving mouse. Finally,we successfully decoded spontaneous neuronal activity from the 3-D behavior of mice. Our findings reveal that subtle, spontaneous behavior modules are strongly correlated with spontaneous neuronal activity patterns.Yaning Han Kang Huang Ke Chen Hongli Pan Furong Ju Yueyue Long Gao Gao Runlong Wu Aimin Wang Liping Wang Pengfei Wei 2022Neuroscience Bulletin2022,38,3:0
