2Relocation of the 10 March 2011 Yingjiang,China,earthquake sequence and its tectonic implications显示文摘An earthquake with MS5.8 occurred on 10 March 2011 in Yingjiang county,western Yunnan,China.This earthquake caused 25 deaths and over 250 injuries.In order to better understand the seismotectonics in the region,we collected the arrival time data from the Yunnan seismic observational bulletins during 1 January to 25 March 2011,and precisely hand-picked the arrival times from high-quality seismograms that were recorded by the temporary seismic stations deployed by our Institute of Crustal Dynamics,China Earthquake Administration.Using these arrival times,we relocated all the earthquakes including the Yingjiang mainshock and its aftershocks using the double-difference relocation algorithm.Our results show that the relocated earthquakes dominantly occurred along the ENE direction and formed an upside-down bow-shaped structure in depth.It is also observed that after the Yingjiang mainshock,some aftershocks extended toward the SSE over about 10 km.These results may indicate that the Yingjiang mainshock ruptured a conjugate fault system consisting of the ENE trending Da Yingjiang fault and a SSE trending blind fault.Such structural features could contribute to severely seismic hazards during the moderate-size Yingjiang earthquake.Jianshe Lei Guangwei Zhang Furen Xie Yuan Li Youjin Su Lifang Liu Honghu Ma Junwei Zhang 2012Earthquake Science2012,25,1:35
3Inhibition of Dual Specific Oncolytic Adenovirus on Esophageal Cancer via Activation of Caspases by a Mitochondrial-dependent Pathway显示文摘We investigated the anti-tumor effects of dual cancer specific-oncolytic adenovirus Ad-VP on esophageal cancer(EC).The anti-tumor activity of Ad-VP was compared with that of the control recombinant adenoviruses(Ad-GP,Ad-Apoptin,Ad-EGFP) in human esophageal cancer cell EC-109 and human normal liver cell L02 in vitro.In 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT) assays,the growth of EC-109 cells was slightly inhibited by Ad-GP,Ad-Apoptin and Ad-EGFP.However,Ad-VP induced a significant cytotoxic effect.Infection of EC-109 cells with Ad-VP resulted in a significant induction of apoptosis of them in vitro,detected by 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole(DAPI) or acridine orange and ethidium bromide staining.The results of Western blot and flow cytometric assay indicate the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential(ΔΨ m),the release of cytochrome c and the activation of caspase-3,6 and 7 in Ad-VP infected EC-109 cells.In contrast,all these assays show almost no effects of the recombinant adenoviruses on L02 cells.These results demonstrate that the treatment of tumors with Ad-VP selectively inhibits tumor growth and induces apoptosis of esophageal cancer cells.Ad-VP may provide a novel and powerful strategy for cancer gene therapy.SU Jia-qiang CHI Bao-rong LI Xiao LIU Lei LIU Li-ming QI Yan-xin WANG Zhuo-yue JIN Ning-yi 2012Chemical Research in Chinese Universities2012,28,3:38

6Growing seismicity in the Sichuan Basin and its association with industrial activities显示文摘In the Sichuan Basin,seismic activity has been low historically,but in the past few decades,a series of moderate to strong earthquakes have occurred.Especially since 2015,earthquake activity has seen an unprecedented continuous growth trend,and the magnitude of events is increasing.Following the M5.7 Xingwen earthquake on 18 Dec.2018,which was suggested to be induced by shale gas hydraulic fracturing,a swarm of earthquakes with a maximum magnitude up to M6.0 struck Changning and the surrounding counties.Questions arose about the possible involvement of industrial actions in these destructive events.In fact,underground fluid injection in salt mine fields has been occurring in the Sichuan Basin for more than70 years.Disposal of wastewater in natural gas fields has also continued for about 40 years.Since 2008,injection for shale gas development in the southern Sichuan Basin has increased rapidly.The possible link between the increasing seismicity and increasing injection activity is an important issue.Although surrounded by seismically active zones to the southwest and northwest,the Sichuan Basin is a rather stable region with a wide range of geological settings.First,we present a brief review of earthquakes of magnitude 5 or higher since 1600 to obtain the long-term event rate and explore the possible link between the rapidly increasing trend of seismic activity and industrial injection activities in recent decades.Second,based on a review of previous research results,combined with the latest data,we describe a comprehensive analysis of the characteristics and occurrence conditions of natural and injection-induced major seismic clusters in the Sichuan Basin since 1700.Finally,we list some conclusions and insights,which provide a better understanding of why damaging events occur so that they can either be avoided or mitigated,point out scientific questions that need urgent research,and propose a general framework based on geomechanics for assessment and management of earthquake-related risks.Xinglin LEI Jinrong SU Zhiwei WANG 2020Science China Earth Sciences2020,63,11:27

8Identification of a Stable Quantitative Trait Locus for Percentage Grains with White Chalkiness in Rice (Oryza sativa)显示文摘High chalkiness is a major problem in many rice-producing areas of the world, especially in hybrid rice (Oryza sativa L.) in China. We previously showed a major quantitative trait locus for the percentage of grains with white chalkiness (QTLqPGWC-8) in the interval G1149-R727 on chromosome 8 using a chromosome segment substitution line (CSSL). Here, we selected the line-CSSL50 harboring the QTLqPGWC-8 allele from the CSSLs derived from a cross between Asominori (as a recurrent parent) and IR24 (as a donor parent), which had higher percentage chalkiness, markedly different from that of Asominori. There were also significant differences in starch granules, appearance of amylose content (AAC) and milling qualities between Asominori and CSSL50, but not in grain size or thousand grain weight (TGW). The BC4F2 and BC4F3 populations from a cross between CSSL50 and Asominori were used for fine mapping of qPGWC-8. We narrowed down the location of this QTL to a 142 kb region between Indel markers 8G-7 and 8G-9. QTLqPGWC-8 accounted for 50.9% of the difference in PGWC between the parents. 11Possible link between long-term and short-term water injections and earthquakes in salt mine and shale gas site in Changning,south Sichuan Basin, China显示文摘Late at night on 17 June 2019,a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Shuanghe Town and its surrounding area in Changning County,Sichuan,China,becoming the largest earthquake recorded within the southern Sichuan Basin.A series of earthquakes with magnitudes up to 5.6 occurred during a short period after the mainshock,and we thus refer to these earthquakes as the Changning M6 earthquake sequence(or swarm).The mainshock was located very close to a salt mine,into which for^3 decades fresh water had been extensively injected through several wells at a depth of 2.7–3 km.It was also near(within^15 km)the epicenter of the 18 December 2018 M5.7 Xingwen earthquake,which is thought to have been induced by shale gas hydraulic fracturing(HF),prompting questions about the possible involvement of industrial activities in the M6 sequence.Following previous studies,this paper focuses on the relationship between injection and seismicity in the Shuanghe salt field and its adjacent Shangluo shale gas block.Except for a period of serious water loss after the start of cross-well injection in 2005–2006,the frequency of earthquakes shows a slightly increasing tendency.Overall,there is a good correlation between the event rate in the Shuanghe area and the loss of injected water.More than 400 M≥3 earthquakes,including 40 M≥4 and 5 M≥5 events,had been observed by the end of August 2019.Meanwhile,in the Shangluo area,seismicity has increased during drilling and HF operations(mostly in vertical wells)since about 2009,and dramatically since the end of 2014,coincident with the start of systematic HF in the area.The event rate shows a progressively increasing background with some fluctuations,paralleling the increase in HF operations.More than 700 M≥3 earthquakes,including 10 M≥4 and 3 M≥5 in spatially and temporally clustered seismic events,are correlated closely with active fracturing platforms.Well-resolved centroid moment tensor results for M≥4 earthquakes were shown to occur at very shallow depths around shale formations with active HF,in agreement with some of the clusters,which occurred within the coverage area of temporary or new permanent monitoring stations and thus have been precisely located.After the Xingwen M5.7 earthquake,seismic activity in the salt well area increased significantly.The Xingwen earthquake may have created a unidirectional rupture to the NNW,with an end point close to the NW-trending fault of the Shuanghe earthquake.Thus,a fault in the Changning anticline might have terminated the fault rupture of the Xingwen earthquake,possibly giving the Xingwen earthquake a role in promoting the Changning M6 event.XingLin Lei ZhiWei Wang JinRong Su 2019Earth and Planetary Physics2019,3,6:24
12Coastal erosion in China under the condition of global climate change and measures for its prevention显示文摘The general characteristics of coastal erosion in China are described in terms of the regional geography, the form of erosion, the causes of erosion, and the challenges we are facing. The paper highlights the relationship between coastal erosion and sea level rises, storm waves and tides, and the influence of global climate changes on coastal erosion along the coastal zone of China. The response of the risk of coastal erosion in China to climate changes has obvious regional diversity. Research into and the forecasting of the effects of climate changes on coastal erosion are systemic work involving the natural environment, social economy, and alongshore engineering projects in the global system. 14Autoantibody to MOG suggests two distinct clinical subtypes of NMOSD显示文摘We characterized a unique group of patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder(NMOSD) who carried autoantibodies of aquaporin-4(AQP4) and myelin-oligodendrocyte glycoprotein(MOG). Among the 125 NMOSD patients, 10(8.0%) were AQP4- and MOG-ab double positive, and 14(11.2%) were MOG-ab single positive. The double-positive patients had a multiphase disease course with a high annual relapse rate(P=0.0431), and severe residual disability(P<0.0001). Of the double-positive patients, 70% had MS-like brain lesions, more severe edematous, multifocal regions on spinal magnetic resonance imaging(MRI), pronounced decreases of retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and atrophy of optic nerves. In contrast, patients with only MOG-ab had a higher ratio of monophasic disease course and mild residual disability. Spinal cord MRI illustrated multifocal cord lesions with mild edema, and brain MRIs showed more lesions around lateral ventricles. NMOSD patients carrying both autoantibodies to AQP4 and MOG existed and exhibited combined features of prototypic NMO and relapsing-remitting form of MS, whereas NMOSD with antibodies to MOG only exhibited an 'intermediate' phenotype between NMOSD and MS. 15Characteristics and triggering mechanism of Xinmo landslide on 24 June 2017 in Sichuan, China显示文摘At 5: 39 AM on 24 June 2017, a huge landslide-debris avalanche occurred on Fugui Mountain at Xinmo village, Diexi town, Maoxian county, Sichuan province, China. The debris blocked the Songpinggou River for about 2 km, resulting in a heavy loss of both human lives and properties(10 deaths, 3 injuries, 73 missing, and 103 houses completely destroyed). The objectives of this paper are to understand the overall process and triggering factors of this landslide and to explore the affecting factors for its long term evolution before failure. Post event surveys were carried out the day after the landslide occurrence. Information was gathered from literature and on-site investigation and measurement. Topography, landforms, lithology, geological setting, earthquake history, meteorological and hydrological data of the area were analysed. Aerial photographs and other remote sensing information were used for evaluation and discussion. Eye witnesses also provided a lot of helpful information for us to understand the process of initiation, development and deposition. The depositional characteristics of the moving material as well as the traces of the movement,the structural features of the main scarp and the seismic waves induced by the slide are presented and discussed in detail in this paper. The results show that the mechanism of the landslide is a sudden rupture of the main block caused by the instability of a secondary block at a higher position. After the initiation, the failed rock mass at higher position overloaded the main block at the lower elevation and collapsed in tandem. Fragmentation of the rock mass occurred later, thus forming a debris avalanche with high mobility. 16Clinicopathological features and prognosis assessment of extranodal follicular dendritic cell sarcoma显示文摘AIM: To establish a model for prognosis assessment of extranodal follicular dendritic cell (FDC) sarcoma.METHODS: Nine lesions were examined by routine and molecular approaches.Clinicopathological factors from the new cases and 97 reported cases were analyzed for their prognostic values.RESULTS: The current lesions were found in f ive male and four female patients,located mainly in the head and neck area and averaging 7.2 cm in size.Six patients had recurrence or metastasis and three remained free of disease.The 106 patients (male/female ratio,1.1:1) were aged from 9 to 82 years (median,44 years).The tumor sizes ranged from 1.5 to 21 cm (mean,7.4 cm).Abdominal/pelvic region was affected most frequently (43%).Surgical resection was performed in 100 patients,followed by radiation and/or chemotherapy in 35 of them.Follow-up data were available in 91 cases,covering a period of 3-324 mo (mean,27 mo;median,19 mo).Of the informative cases,38 (42%) had recurrence or metastasis,and 12 (13%) died of the disease.These tumors were classif ied histologically into lowand high-grade lesions.A size ≥ 5 cm (P = 0.003),highgrade histology (P = 0.046) and a mitotic count ≥ 5/10 HPF (P = 0.013) were associated with tumor recurrence.The lesions were def ined as low-,intermediateand high-risk tumors,and their recurrence rates were 16%,46% and 73%,and their mortality rates 0%,4% and 45%,respectively.CONCLUSION: Extranodal FDC tumors behave like soft tissue sarcomas.Their clinical outcomes are variable and can be evaluated according to their sizes and grades.Li, Lan Shi, Yong-Hong Guo, Zhi-Juan Qiu, Tian Guo, Lei Yang, Hong-Ying Zhang, Xun Zhao, Xin-Ming Su, Qin 2010World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,20:18

19Collagen type Ⅱ suppresses articular chondrocyte hypertrophy and osteoarthritis progression by promoting integrin β1-SMAD1 interaction显示文摘Hypertrophic differentiation is not only the terminal process of endochondral ossification in the growth plate but is also an important pathological change in osteoarthritic cartilage.Collagen type II(COL2A1)was previously considered to be only a structural component of the cartilage matrix,but recently,it has been revealed to be an extracellular signaling molecule that can significantly suppress chondrocyte hypertrophy.However,the mechanisms by which COL2A1 regulates hypertrophic differentiation remain unclear.In our study,a Col2a1 p.Gly1170Ser mutant mouse model was constructed,and Col2a1 loss was demonstrated in homozygotes.Loss of Col2a1 was found to accelerate chondrocyte hypertrophy through the bone morphogenetic protein(BMP)-SMAD1 pathway.Upon interacting with COL2A1,integrinβ1(ITGB1),the major receptor for COL2A1,competed with BMP receptors for binding to SMAD1 and then inhibited SMAD1 activation and nuclear import.COL2A1 could also activate ITGB1-induced ERK1/2 phosphorylation and,through ERK1/2-SMAD1 interaction,it further repressed SMAD1 activation,thus inhibiting BMP-SMAD1-mediated chondrocyte hypertrophy.Moreover,COL2A1 expression was downregulated,while chondrocyte hypertrophic markers and BMP-SMAD1 signaling activity were upregulated in degenerative human articular cartilage.Our study reveals novel mechanisms for the inhibition of chondrocyte hypertrophy by COL2A1 and suggests that the degradation and decrease in COL2A1 might initiate and promote osteoarthritis progression.Chengjie Lian Xudong Wang Xianjian Qiu Zizhao Wu Bo Gao Lei Liu Guoyan Liang Hang Zhou Xiaoming Yang Yan Peng Anjing Liang Caixia Xu Dongsheng Huang Peiqiang Su 2019Bone Research2019,7,1:17
