Antibiotic resistance and cagA gene correlation:A looming crisis of Helicobacter pylori显示文摘AIM:To determine antibiotic resistance of Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori) in Pakistan and its correlation with host and pathogen associated factors.METHODS:A total of 178 strains of H.pylori were isolated from gastric biopsies of dyspeptic patients.Susceptibility patterns against first and second-line antibiotics were determined and trends of resistance were analyzed in relation to the sampling period, gastric conditions and cagA gene carriage. The effect of cagA gene on the acquisition of resistance was investigated by mutant selection assay.RESULTS:The observations showed that monoresistant strains were prevalent with rates of 89% for metronidazole,36% for clarithromycin,37% for amoxicillin,18.5% for ofloxacin and 12% for tetracycline.Furthermore, clarithromycin resistance was on the rise from 2005 to 2008(32% vs 38%,P = 0.004) and it is significantly observed in non ulcerative dyspeptic patients compared to gastritis, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer cases(53% vs 20%,18% and 19%,P = 0.000).On the contrary, metronidazole and ofloxacin resistance were more common in gastritis and gastric ulcer cases.Distribution analysis and frequencies of resistant mutants in vitro correlated with the absence of cagA gene with metronidazole and ofloxacin resistance.CONCLUSION:The study confirms the alarming levels of antibiotic resistance associated with the degree of gastric inflammation and cagA gene carriage in H.pylori strains. | Adnan Khan Amber Farooqui Hamid Manzoor Syed Shakeel Akhtar Muhammad Saeed Quraishy Shahana Urooj Kazmi | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,18: | 15
Effects of Magnetic Field on Entropy Generation in Flow and Heat Transfer due to a Radially Stretching Surface显示文摘We investigate the effects of magnetic field on the entropy generation during fluid flow and heat transfer due to the radially stretching surface. The partial differential equations governing the flow and heat transfer phenomenon are transformed into nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using suitable similarity transformations. These equations are then solved by the homotopy analysis method and the shooting technique. The effects of the magnetic field parameter M and the Prandtl number Pr on velocity and the temperature profiles are presented. Moreover, influence of the magnetic field parameter M and the group parameter Br/Ω on the local entropy generation number Ns as well as the Bejan number Be are inspected. It is observed that the magnetic field is a strong source of entropy production in the considered problem. | Adnan Saeed Butt Asif Ali | 2013 | Chinese Physics Letters2013,30,2: | 3
Simulation, Modeling, and Optimization of Intelligent Kidney Disease Predication Empowered with Computational Intelligence Approaches显示文摘Artificial intelligence(AI)is expanding its roots in medical diagnostics.Various acute and chronic diseases can be identified accurately at the initial level by using AI methods to prevent the progression of health complications.Kidney diseases are producing a high impact on global health and medical practitioners are suggested that the diagnosis at earlier stages is one of the foremost approaches to avert chronic kidney disease and renal failure.High blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, and glomerulonephritis are the root causes of kidney disease. Therefore, the present study is proposed a set of multiple techniques such as simulation, modeling, and optimization of intelligent kidney disease prediction(SMOIKD)which is based on computational intelligence approaches.Initially, seven parameters were used for the fuzzy logic system(FLS),and then twenty-five different attributes of the kidney dataset were used for the artificial neural network(ANN)and deep extreme machine learning(DEML).The expert system was proposed with the assistance of medical experts. For the quick and accurate evaluation of the proposed system,Matlab version 2019 was used. The proposed SMOIKD-FLSANN-DEML expert system has shown 94.16%accuracy.Hence this study concluded that SMOIKD-FLS-ANN-DEML system is effective to accurately diagnose kidney disease at initial levels. | Abdul Hannan Khan Muhammad Adnan Khan Sagheer Abbas Shahan Yamin Siddiqui Muhammad Aanwar Saeed Majed Alfayad Nouh Sabri Elmitwally | 2021 | Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,5: | 2

Foliar application of micronutrients enhances crop stand, yield and the biofortification essential for human health of different wheat cultivars显示文摘Globally about half of the world’s population is under micronutrient malnutrition due to poor quality food intake. To overcome this problem, fortification and biofortification techniques are often used.Biofortification is considered a better option than fortification due to the easy control of nutrient deficiencies present in daily food. This field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of foliar application of a micronutrient mixture(MNM)consisting of zinc(Zn),iron(Fe),copper(Cu),manganese(Mn)and boron(B)on yield and flour quality of wheat. The results show the effectiveness of foliar feeding for growth and yield parameters,in addition to the enriching of wheat grains with Zn,Cu,Fe,Mn and B.Compared to the control without foliar feeding, foliar application on wheat crop increased tillering ability, spike length, grain yield and the contents of Zn,Cu,Mn,Fe and B by 21,47,22,22 and 25%in wheat flour, respectively. Therefore, foliar feeding of micronutrients could be an effective approach to enrich wheat grains with essential nutrients for correcting malnutrition. | Muhammad Zahir Aziz Muhammad Yaseen Tanveer Abbas Muhammad Naveed Adnan Mustafa Yasir Hamid Qudsia Saeed XU Ming-gang | 2019 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2019,18,6: | 1
Understanding the Language of ISIS:An Empirical Approach to Detect Radical Content on Twitter Using Machine Learning显示文摘The internet, particularly online social networking platforms have revolutionized the way extremist groups are influencing and radicalizing individuals.Recent research reveals that the process initiates by exposing vast audiences to extremist content and then migrating potential victims to confined platforms for intensive radicalization.Consequently, social networks have evolved as a persuasive tool for extremism aiding as recruitment platform and psychological warfare. Thus, recognizing potential radical text or material is vital to restrict the circulation of the extremist chronicle. The aim of this research work is to identify radical text in social media. Our contributions are as follows:(i)A new dataset to be employed in radicalization detection;(ii)In depth analysis of new and previous datasets so that the variation in extremist group narrative could be identified;(iii)An approach to train classifier employing religious features along with radical features to detect radicalization;(iv)Observing the use of violent and bad words in radical, neutral and random groups by employing violent, terrorism and bad words dictionaries. Our research results clearly indicate that incorporating religious text in model training improves the accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score of the classifiers.Secondly a variation in extremist narrative has been observed implying that usage of new dataset can have substantial effect on classifier performance. In addition to this, violence and bad words are creating a differentiating factor between radical and random users but for neutral(anti-ISIS)group it needs further investigation. | Zia Ul Rehman Sagheer Abbas Muhammad Adnan Khan Ghulam Mustafa Hira Fayyaz Muhammad Hanif Muhammad Anwar Saeed | 2021 | Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,2: | 0
Hybridization of CNN with LBP for Classification of Melanoma Images显示文摘Skin cancer(melanoma)is one of the most aggressive of the cancers and the prevalence has significantly increased due to increased exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Therefore, timely detection and management of the lesion is a critical consideration in order to improve lifestyle and reduce mortality. To this end,we have designed, implemented and analyzed a hybrid approach entailing convolutional neural networks(CNN)and local binary patterns(LBP).The experiments have been performed on publicly accessible datasets ISIC 2017,2018 and 2019(HAM10000)with data augmentation for in-distribution generalization. As a novel contribution, the CNN architecture is enhanced with an intelligible layer,LBP,that extracts the pertinent visual patterns.Classification of Basal Cell Carcinoma,Actinic Keratosis,Melanoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma has been evaluated on 8035 and 3494 cases for training and testing, respectively.Experimental outcomes with cross-validation depict a plausible performance with an average accuracy of 97.29%,sensitivity of 95.63%and specificity of 97.90%.Hence,the proposed approach can be used in research and clinical settings to provide second opinions, closely approximating experts’intuition. | Saeed Iqbal Adnan N.Qureshi Ghulam Mustafa | 2022 | Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,6: | 0

National guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of hilar cholangiocarcinoma显示文摘A consensus meeting of national experts from all major national hepatobiliary centres in the country was held on May 26,2023,at the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute&Research Centre(PKLI&RC)after initial consultations with the experts. The Pakistan Society for the Study of Liver Diseases(PSSLD)and PKLI&RC jointly organised this meeting. This effort was based on a comprehensive literature review to establish national practice guidelines for hilar cholangiocarcinoma(hCCA).The consensus was that hCCA is a complex disease and requires a multidisciplinary team approach to best manage these patients. This coordinated effort can minimise delays and give patients a chance for curative treatment and effective palliation. The diagnostic and staging workup includes high-quality computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreato-graphy.Brush cytology or biopsy utilizing endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a mainstay for diagnosis. However, histopathologic confirmation is not always required before resection.Endoscopic ultrasound with fine needle aspiration of regional lymph nodes and positron emission tomography scan are valuable adjuncts for staging. The only curative treatment is the surgical resection of the biliary tree based on the Bismuth-Corlette classification.Selected patients with unresectable hCCA can be considered for liver transplantation.Adjuvant chemotherapy should be offered to patients with a high risk of recurrence. The use of preoperative biliary drainage and the need for portal vein embolisation should be based on local multidisciplinary discussions.Patients with acute cholangitis can be drained with endoscopic or percutaneous biliary drainage.Palliative chemotherapy with cisplatin and gemcitabine has shown improved survival in patients with irresectable and recurrent hCCA. | Faisal Saud Dar Zaigham Abbas Irfan Ahmed Muhammad Atique Usman Iqbal Aujla Muhammad Azeemuddin Zeba Aziz Abu Bakar Hafeez Bhatti Tariq Ali Bangash Amna Subhan Butt Osama Tariq Butt Abdul Wahab Dogar Javed Iqbal Farooqi Faisal Hanif Jahanzaib Haider Siraj Haider Syed Mujahid Hassan Adnan Abdul Jabbar Aman Nawaz Khan Muhammad Shoaib Khan Muhammad Yasir Khan Amer Latif Nasir Hassan Luck Ahmad Karim Malik Kamran Rashid Sohail Rashid Mohammad Salih Abdullah Saeed Amjad Salamat Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab Aasim Yusuf Haseeb Haider Zia Ammara Naveed | 2024 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2024,30,9: | 0

De-Noising Brain MRI Images by Mixing Concatenation and Residual Learning(MCR)显示文摘Brain magnetic resonance images(MRI)are used to diagnose the different diseases of the brain, such as swelling and tumor detection. The quality of the brain MR images is degraded by different noises, usually salt&pepper and Gaussian noises, which are added to the MR images during the acquisition process. In the presence of these noises, medical experts are facing problems in diagnosing diseases from noisy brain MR images. Therefore,we have proposed a de-noising method by mixing concatenation, and residual deep learning techniques called the MCR de-noising method. Our proposed MCR method is to eliminate salt&pepper and gaussian noises as much as possible from the brain MRI images. The MCR method has been trained and tested on the noise quantity levels 2%to 20%for both salt&pepper and gaussian noise. The experiments have been done on publically available brain MRI image datasets, which can easily be accessible in the experiments and result section. The Structure Similarity Index Measure(SSIM)and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio(PSNR)calculate the similarity score between the denoised images by the proposed MCR method and the original clean images. Also, the Mean Squared Error(MSE)measures the error or difference between generated denoised and the original images. The proposed MCR denoising method has a 0.9763 SSIM score,84.3182 PSNR,and 0.0004 MSE for salt&pepper noise;similarly,0.7402 SSIM score,72.7601 PSNR,and 0.0041 MSE for Gaussian noise at the highest level of 20%noise.In the end,we have compared the MCR method with the state-of-the-art de-noising filters such as median and wiener de-noising filters. | Kazim Ali Adnan N.Qureshi Muhammad Shahid Bhatti Abid Sohail Muhammad Hijji Atif Saeed | 2023 | Computer Systems Science & Engineering2023,45,5: | 0
Design of a test structure based on chevron-shaped thermal actuator for in-situ measurement of the fracture strength of MEMS thin films显示文摘A novel test structure to characterize the fracture strength of MEMS(Micro-electro-Mechanical Systems)thin films is presented. The test structure is comprised of a micro fabricated chevron-shaped thermal actuator and test specimen. The test structure is capable of producing large displacement and stresswhile keeping a relatively low temperature gradient across the test specimen.A voltage is applied across the beams of the chevron-shaped actuator, producing thermal expansion force to fracture the test specimen.Actuator deflection is computed based on elastic analysis of structures. To verify the test structure, simulations have been implemented using COMSOL Multiphysics.A 620μmlong,410μm wide,10μm thick test structure produced stress of 7.1 GPawhile the applied voltage is 5 V.The results indicate that the test structure is suitable for in-situ measurement of the fracture strength of MEMS thin films. | Mengjie Li Zaifa Zhou Liyan Yi Xijie Wang Saeed Adnan | 2019 | Nanotechnology and Precision Engineering2019,2,4: | 0
