Human adenovirus(HAdV)infection in children with acute respiratory tract infections in Guangzhou,China,2010–2021:a molecular epidemiology study显示文摘Background Human adenovirus(HAdV)infection can cause a variety of diseases. It is a major pathogen of pediatric acute respiratory tract infections(ARIs)and can be life-threatening in younger children. We described the epidemiology and subtypes shifting of HAdV among children with ARI in Guangzhou,China. Methods We conducted a retrospective study of 161,079 children diagnosed with acute respiratory illness at the Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center between 2010 and 2021.HAdV specimens were detected by real-time PCR and the hexon gene was used for phylogenetic analysis. Results Before the COVID-19 outbreak in Guangzhou, the annual frequency of adenovirus infection detected during this period ranged from 3.92%to 13.58%,with an epidemic peak every four to fve years.HAdV demonstrated a clear seasonal distribution, with the lowest positivity in March and peaking during summer(July or August)every year.A signifcant increase in HAdV cases was recorded for 2018 and 2019,which coincided with a shift in the dominant HAdV subtype from HAdV-3 to HAdV-7.The latter was associated with a more severe disease compared to HAdV-3.The average mortality proportion for children infected with HAdV from 2016 to 2019 was 0.38%but increased to 20%in severe cases. After COVID-19 emerged,HAdV cases dropped to 2.68%,suggesting that non-pharmaceutical interventions probably reduced the transmission of HAdV in the community. Conclusion Our study provides the foundation for the understanding of the epidemiology of HAdV and its associated risks in children in Southern China. | Yi Chen Tao Lin Chang‑Bing Wang Wan‑Li Liang Guang‑Wan Lian Mark Zanin Sook‑San Wong Xin‑Gui Tian Jia‑Yu Zhong Ying‑Ying Zhang Jia‑Hui Xie Ling‑Ling Zheng Fei‑Yan Chen Run Dang Ming‑Qi Zhao Yi‑Yu Yang Rong Zhou Bing Zhu | 2022 | World Journal of Pediatrics2022,18,8: | 5

Optimization method of Hadamard coding plate inγ‑ray computational ghost imaging显示文摘Owing to the constraints on the fabrication ofγ-ray coding plates with many pixels, few studies have been carried out onγ-ray computational ghost imaging. Thus, the development of coding plates with fewer pixels is essential to achieveγ-ray computational ghost imaging.Based on the regional similarity between Hadamard subcoding plates, this study presents an optimization method to reduce the number of pixels of Hadamard coding plates.First,a moving distance matrix was obtained to describe the regional similarity quantitatively.Second, based on the matrix,we used two ant colony optimization arrangement algorithms to maximize the reuse of pixels in the regional similarity area and obtain new compressed coding plates. With full sampling, these two algorithms improved the pixel utilization of the coding plate, and the compression ratio values were 54.2%and 58.9%,respectively.In addition, three undersampled sequences(the Harr,Russian dolls, and cake-cutting sequences)with different sampling rates were tested and discussed. With different sampling rates, our method reduced the number of pixels of all three sequences, especially for the Russian dolls and cake-cutting sequences. Therefore, our method can reduce the number of pixels, manufacturing cost, and difficulty of the coding plate, which is beneficial for the implementation and application ofγ-ray computational ghost imaging. | Zhi Zhou San‑Gang Li Qing‑Shan Tan Li Yang Ming‑Zhe Liu Ming Wang Lei Wang Yi Cheng | 2023 | Nuclear Science and Techniques2023,34,1: | 0
Predictive Analysis of Susceptibility of Different Species to SARS-CoV-2 based on ACE2 Receptors显示文摘Coronavirus Disease 2019(COVID-19)is a pulmonary inflammatory disease caused by infection with the highly pathogenic new coronavirus(SARSCo V-2)[1].To date,COVID-19 has spread to at least210 countries and territories, infected more than10.94 million people, and killed more than 519,000 people, according to Johns Hopkins University. On April 15,2020,the COVID-19 outbreak was declared a global health emergency[2]. | XU Xiao Gang WANG Huan WANG San Ying ZHANG Jing SUN Chuan WEI Ming Xiang YAN Jing MAO Gen Xiang | 2020 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2020,33,11: | 0
Mutagenic and Estrogenic Effects of Organic Compounds in Water Treated by Different Processes: A Pilot Study显示文摘Objective In this study, a pilot-scale investigation was conducted to examine and compare the biotoxicity of the organic compounds in effluents from five treatment processes(P1-P5) where each process was combination of preoxidation(O3), coagulation, sedimentation, sand filtration, ozonation, granular activated carbon, biological activated carbon and chlorination(Na Cl O). Methods Organic compounds were extracted by XAD-2 resins and eluted with acetone and dichlormethane(DCM). The eluents were evaporated and redissolved with DMSO or DCM. The mutagenicity and estrogenicity of the extracts were assayed with the Ames test and yeast estrogen screen(YES assay), respectively. The organic compounds were detected by GC-MS. Results The results indicated that the mutation ratio(MR) of organic compounds in source water was higher than that for treated water. GC-MS showed that more than 48 organic compounds were identified in all samples and that treated water had significantly fewer types and concentrations of organic compounds than source water. Conclusion To different extents, all water treatment processes could reduce both the mutagenicity and estrogenicity, relative to source water. P2, P3, and P5 reduced mutagenicity more effectively, while P1 reduced estrogenicity, most effectively. Water treatment processes in this pilot plant had weak abilities to remove Di-n-butyl phthalate or 1, 2-Benzene dicarboxylic acid. | LU Yi LYU Xue Min XIAO San Hua YANG Xiao Ming WANG Ya Zhou TANG Fei | 2015 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2015,28,8: | 0
Etiological roles of core promoter variation in triple-negative breast cancer显示文摘Abnormal geneexpression playskeyrole in cancerdevelopment.Acorepromoter is located around the transcriptional start site.Through interaction between core promoter sequences and transcriptional factors, core promoter controls transcriptional initiation. We hypothesized that in cancer, core promoter sequences could be mutated to interfere the interaction with transcriptional factors, resulting in altered transcriptional initiation and abnormal gene expression and cancer development. We used triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC)as a model to test our hypothesis. We collected genome-wide core promoter variants from 279 TNBC genomes. After extensive filtering of normal genomic polymorphism,we identified 19,427 recurrent somatic variants in 1,238 core promoters of 1,274 genes and 1,694 recurrent germline variants in 272 core promoters of 294 genes. Many of the affected genes were oncogenes and tumor suppressors.Analysis of RNA-seq data from the same patient cohort identified increased or decreased gene expression in 439 somatic and 85 germline variantsaffected genes, and the results were validated by luciferase reporter assay.By comparing with the core promoter variation data from 610 unclassified breast cancer,we observed that core promoter variants in TNBC were highly TNBC-specific.We further identified the drugs targeting the genes with core promoter variation. Our study demonstrates that core promoter is highly mutable in cancer, and can play etiological roles in TNBC and other types of cancer through influencing transcriptional initiation. | Teng Huang Jiaheng Li San Ming Wang | 2023 | Genes & Diseases2023,10,1: | 0
