| 1 | Proposal of an ultrasonographic classification for hepatic alveolar echinococcosis: Echinococcosis multilocularis Ulm classification-ultrasound显示文摘AIM: To establish an ultrasonographic classification based on a large sample of patients with confirmed hepatic alveolar echinococcosis(AE).METHODS: Clinical data and ultrasonography(US) findings of 185 patients(100 males; 85 females; mean age at diagnosis: 51.4 ± 17.6 years; mean age at time of US examination: 58.7 ± 18.2 years) were retrospectively reviewed with respect to the US morphology of hepatic AE lesions. The sonomorphological findings were grouped according to a five-part classification scheme.RESULTS: Application of the new classification resulted in the following distribution of sonomorphological patterns among the patients examined: hailstorm(54.1%); pseudocystic(13.5%); ossification(13.0%); hemangioma-like(8.1%); and metastasis-like(6.5%). | 2 | Long-term follow-up of distal intestinal obstruction syndrome in cystic fibrosis显示文摘AIM: To investigate the long-term follow-up of distal intestinal obstruction syndrome(DIOS) in Israeli cystic fibrosis(CF) patients.METHODS: This is a multi-center,comparative,retrospective study in which we reviewed the medical records of all CF patients from three major CF centers in Israel who were treated in the period from 1980 to 2012.Patients diagnosed with DIOS were defined as the study group.The patients were diagnosed with DIOS based on their clinical presentation and typical findings on either abdominal X-ray or computerized tomography scan.For the control group,CF patients with no DIOS were matched to the patients in the study group for age,sex,and cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator(CFTR) mutations.For both groups,the collected data included age,sex,CFTR genotype,weight,height,and body mass index.Clinical data included respiratory function tests in the last five years prior to the study,respiratory function test immediately before and after the DIOS event,number of hospitalizations,sputum culture results,and CFrelated conditions diagnosed according to the CF clinical practice guidelines.In the study group,data on the DIOS treatment and tendency for DIOS recurrence were also analyzed.RESULTS: The medical charts for a total of 350 CF patients were reviewed.Of the 350 CF patients,26(7.4%) were diagnosed with DIOS.The control group included 31 CF patients with no DIOS diagnosis.The mean follow-up period was 21.6 ± 8.2 years.The total of DIOS episodes in the follow-up period was 60.The distribution of DIOS episodes was as follows: 6/26(23.1%) study patients had one episode of DIOS intheir lifetime,7/26(26.9%) had two episodes,7/26(26.9%) had three episodes,and 6/26(23.1%) had four or more episodes.Compared to the control group,DIOS patients had a significantly higher incidence of meconium ileus in the past(65.4% vs 0%,respectively,P < 0.02),more Aspergillus spp.colonization(34.6% vs 3.2%,respectively,P < 0.02),and a higher number of hospitalizations due to respiratory exacerbations(8.6 vs 6.2 mean total hospitalizations per follow-up period,respectively,P < 0.02).No other significant differences were found between the control and study groups.The conservative treatment of DIOS,which mainly includes hydration and stool softeners,was successful in 82% of the episodes.The survival rate was similar for both groups.CONCLUSION: CF patients with DIOS suffer from recurrent hospitalizations and airway pathogen acquisition.Although recurrence of DIOS is common,conservative treatment is successful in most patients. | Moran Lavie Tzipora Manovitz Daphna Vilozni Sarina Levy-Mendelovich Ifat Sarouk Ilana Weintraubv David Shoseyov Malena Cohen-Cymberknoh Joseph Rivlin Ori Efrati | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,1: | 10 |

| 5 | Comparative analysis of the predictive power of different endothelial progenitor cell phenotypes on cardiovascular outcome显示文摘AIM: To compare the predictive power of different endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) phenotypic markers for future cardiovascular events. METHODS: Peripheral blood was collected from 76 consecutive patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention in our institute. The various EPC phenotypes of peripheral blood mononuclear cells were CD34+CD133+, CD34+KDR+, and CD 133+KDR+. The outcome endpoint included cardiovascular mortality, recurrent ACS, and hospitalization for decompensated heart failure during a 24-mo follow-up period.RESULTS: CD34+CD133+ cells (P = 0.034), but not CD34+KDR+ (P = 0.35) or CD 133+KDR+ cells (P = 0.19), were found to predict recurrent ACS. We found no correlation between EPCs measured by any of the three phenotypic combinations of accepted CD markers and the total combination of these separate outcomes. | 8 | Campus Vibration in Nanwangshan Campus,China University of Geosciences at Wuhan Monitored by Short-Period Seismometers显示文摘Continuous seismic observations can record seismic waveforms, and ambient noise, for the purposes of earthquake researches and other applications. Here we deploy three digital seismometers(EPS-2) in and around the Nanwangshan Campus of the China University of Geosciences(Wuhan). This network was running from April 9 to May 9 of 2018. During this period, the seismometers recorded the May 4, 2018 M6.9 Hawaii earthquake. From the recorded waveforms, we could observe clearly the P and S arrivals, and the corresponding particle motions. Analysis of continuous observations of ambient noise shows obvious fluctuation of vibration intensity inside of the campus. The campus is quietest from 0 to 5 am. From 5 am on, the vibration intensity increases, and reaches the peak of entire day at 12 am. The amplitude then decreases to a very low level at 19:30 to 20:00 pm, and reaches another strong noisy time at 21:00 to 21:30 pm. After 21:30 pm, the intensity goes down slowly. We also observed seismic signals that were generated by the interaction of speed-control hump cars and ground. By taking the envelope and smooth operations, we observe different characteristics for different car speeds, which suggests that seismic monitoring approaches can be used for speed measurement of cars. This kind of small seismic network running in a real time fashion, would greatly help understanding of the sources of ambient noise at high frequency bands in interested areas. | 10 | Specifying the role of BAK1-interacting receptor-like kinase 3 in brassinosteroid signaling显示文摘Brassinosteroids(BR) are involved in the control of several developmental processes ranging from root elongation to senescence and adaptation to environmental cues. Thus, BR perception and signaling have to be precisely regulated. One regulator is BRI1-associated kinase 1(BAK1)-interacting receptor-like kinase 3(BIR3). In the absence of BR, BIR3 forms complexes with BR insensitive 1(BRI1) and BAK1.However, the biophysical and energetic requirements for complex formation in the absence of the ligand have yet to be determined. Using computational modeling, we simulated the potential complexes between the cytoplasmic domains of BAK1, BRI1 and BIR3. Our calculations and experimental data confirm the interaction of BIR3 Rewith BAK1 and BRI1, with the BAK1 BIR3 interaction clearly favored. Furthermore, we demonstrate that BIR3 and BRI1 share the same interaction site with BAK1. This suggests a competition between BIR3 and BRI1 for binding to BAK1, which results in preferential binding of BIR3 to BAK1 in the absence of the ligand thereby preventing the active participation of BAK1 in BR signaling.
