1Total hip arthroplasty in developmental dysplasia of the hip: Review of anatomy, techniques and outcomes显示文摘Total hip arthroplasty(THA) in developmental dysplasia of the hip(DDH) presents many challenges to the reconstructive surgeon. The complex femoral and acetabular anatomy makes standard reconstruction technically challenging. Acetabular coverage can be improved by medialization of the component or augmentation of the deficient areas with bone graft. Femoral shortening osteotomies are considered in cases of severe dysplasia and frankly dislocated hips. Each patient's unique anatomy dictates what options of reconstruction are available. The functional outcomes of THA in DDH are generally excellent, though higher rates of mechanical failure have been reported in this group. 2Air quality monitoring using mobile microscopy and machine learning显示文摘Rapid,accurate and high-throughput sizing and quantification of particulate matter(PM)in air is crucial for monitoring and improving air quality.In fact,particles in air with a diameter of≤2.5μm have been classified as carcinogenic by the World Health Organization.Here we present a field-portable cost-effective platform for high-throughput quantification of particulate matter using computational lens-free microscopy and machine-learning.This platform,termed c-Air,is also integrated with a smartphone application for device control and display of results.This mobile device rapidly screens 6.5 L of air in 30 s and generates microscopic images of the aerosols in air.It provides statistics of the particle size and density distribution with a sizing accuracy of~93%.We tested this mobile platform by measuring the air quality at different indoor and outdoor environments and measurement times,and compared our results to those of an Environmental Protection Agency–approved device based on beta-attenuation monitoring,which showed strong correlation to c-Air measurements.Furthermore,we used c-Air to map the air quality around Los Angeles International Airport(LAX)over 24 h to confirm that the impact of LAX on increased PM concentration was present even at 47 km away from the airport,especially along the direction of landing flights.With its machinelearning-based computational microscopy interface,c-Air can be adaptively tailored to detect specific particles in air,for example,various types of pollen and mold and provide a cost-effective mobile solution for highly accurate and distributed sensing of air quality.Yi-Chen Wu Ashutosh Shiledar Yi-Cheng Li Jeffrey Wong Steve Feng Xuan Chen Christine Chen Kevin Jin Saba Janamian Zhe Yang Zachary Scott Ballard Zoltán Göröcs Alborz Feizi Aydogan Ozcan 2017Light(Science & Applications)2017,6,1:5

4Transition Metal Aluminum Boride as a New Candidate for Ambient-Condition Electrochemical Ammonia Synthesis显示文摘Achieving more meaningful N2 conversion by reducing the energy input and carbon footprint is now being investigated through a method of N2 fixation instead of the Haber-Bosch process.Unfortunately,the electrochemical N2 reduction reaction(NRR)method as a rising approach currently still shows low selectivity(Faradaic efficiency<10%)and high-energy consumption[applied potential at least-0.2 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode(RHE)].Here,the role of molybdenum aluminum boride single crystals,belonging to a family of ternary transition metal aluminum borides known as MAB phases,is reported for the electrochemical NRR for the first time,at a low applied potential(-0.05 V versus RHE)under ambient conditions and in alkaline media.Due to the unique nano-laminated crystal structure of the MAB phase,these inexpensive materials have been found to exhibit excellent electrocatalytic performances(NH3 yield:9.2μg h^-1cm^-2mgcat^-1.,Faradaic efficiency:30.1%)at the low overpotential,and to display a high chemical stability and sustained catalytic performance.In conjunction,further mechanism studies indicate B and Al as main-group metals show a highly selective affinity to N2 due to the strong interaction between the B 2p/Al 3p band and the N 2p orbitals,while Mo exhibits specific catalytic activity toward the subsequent reduction reaction.Overall,the MAB-phase catalyst under the synergy of the elements within ternary compound can suppress the hydrogen evolution reaction and achieve enhanced NRR performance.The significance of this work is to provide a promising candidate in the future synthesis of ammonia.Yang Fu Peter Richardson Kangkang Li Hai Yu Bing Yu Scott Donne Erich Kisi Tianyi Ma 2020Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,5:3

6Roots of Tomorrow's Digital Divide:Documenting Computer Use and Internet Access in China's Elementary Schools Today显示文摘This paper explores China's digital divide,with a focus on differences in access to computers,learning software,and the Internet at school and at home among different groups of elementary school children in China.The digital divide is examined in four different dimensions:(i) between students in urban public schools and students in rural public schools;(ii) between students in rural public schools and students in private migrant schools;(iii) between migrant students in urban public schools and migrant students in private migrant schools;and(iv) between students in Han-dominated rural areas and students in areas inhabited by ethnic minorities.Using data from a set of large-scale surveys in schools in different parts of the country,we find a wide gap between computer and Internet access of students in rural areas and those in urban public schools.The gap widens further when comparing urban students to students from minority areas.The divide is also large between urban and rural schools when examining the quality of computer instruction and access to learning software.Migration does not appear to eliminate the digital divide,unless migrant families are able to enroll their children in urban public schools.The digital divide in elementary schools may have implications for future employment,education and income inequality in China.Yihua Yang Xiao Hu Qinghe Qu Fang Lai Yaojiang Shi Matthew Boswell Scott Rozelle 2013China & World Economy2013,21,3:2

8Ferroptosis promotes T-cell activation-induced neurodegeneration in multiple sclerosis显示文摘While many drugs are effective at reducing the relapse frequency of multiple sclerosis (MS), there is an unmet need for treatments that slow neurodegeneration resulting from secondary disease progression. The mechanism of neurodegeneration in MS has not yet been established. Here, we discovered a potential pathogenetic role of ferroptosis, an iron-dependent regulated cell death mechanism, in MS. We found that critical ferroptosis proteins (acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4, ACSL4) were altered in an existing genomic database of MS patients, and biochemical features of ferroptosis, including lipid reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and mitochondrial shrinkage, were observed in the experimental autoimmune encephalitis (EAE) mouse model. Targeting ferroptosis with ferroptosis inhibitors or reducing ACSL4 expression improved the behavioral phenotypes of EAE mice, reduced neuroinflammation, and prevented neuronal death. We found that ferroptosis was an early event in EAE, which may promote T-cell activation through T-cell receptor (TCR) signaling in vitro and in vivo.
