| 2 | Dynamically controlling terahertz wavefronts with cascaded metasurfaces显示文摘Dynamically controlling terahertz(THz)wavefronts in a designable fashion is highly desired in practice.However,available methods working at microwave frequencies do not work well in the THz regime due to lacking suitable tunable elements with submicrometer sizes.Here,instead of locally controlling individual meta-atoms in a THz metasurface,we show that rotating different layers(each exhibiting a particular phase profile)in a cascaded metadevice at different speeds can dynamically change the effective Jonesmatrix property of the whole device,thus enabling extraordinary manipulations on the wavefront and polarization characteristics of a THz beam impinging on the device.After illustrating our strategy based on model calculations,we experimentally demonstrate two proof-of-concept metadevices,each consisting of two carefully designed all-silicon transmissive metasurfaces exhibiting different phase profiles.Rotating two metasurfaces inside the fabricated devices at different speeds,we experimentally demonstrate that the first metadevice can efficiently redirect a normally incident THz beam to scan over a wide solid-angle range,while the second one can dynamically manipulate both the wavefront and polarization of a THz beam.Our results pave the way to achieving dynamic control of THz beams,which is useful in many applications,such as THz radar,and bio-and chemical sensing and imaging. | Xiaodong Cai Rong Tang Haoyang Zhou Qiushi Li Shaojie Ma Dongyi Wang Tong Liu Xiaohui Ling Wei Tan Qiong He Shiyi Xiao Lei Zhou | 2021 | Advanced Photonics2021,3,3: | 8 |
| 3 | Bph30confers resistance to brown planthopperby fortifying sclerenchyma in rice leaf sheaths显示文摘Phloem-feeding insects cause massive losses in agriculture and horticulture.Host plant resistance to phloem-feeding insects is often mediated by changes in phloem composition,which deter insect settling and feeding and decrease viability.Here,we report that rice plant resistance to the phloem-feeding brown planthopper(BPH)is associated with fortification of the sclerenchyma tissue,which is located just beneath the epidermis and a cell layer or two away from the vascular bundle in the rice leaf sheath.We found that BPHs prefer to feed on the smooth and soft region on the surface of rice leaf sheaths called the long-cell block.We identified Bph30 as a rice BPH resistance gene that prevents BPH stylets from reaching the phloem due to the fortified sclerenchyma.Bph30 is strongly expressed in sclerenchyma cells and enhances cellulose and hemicellulose synthesis,making the cell walls stiffer and sclerenchyma thicker.The structurally fortified sclerenchyma is a formidable barrier preventing BPH stylets from penetrating the leaf sheath tissues and arriving at the phloem to feed.Bph30 belongs to a novel gene family,encoding a protein with two leucine-rich domains.Another member of the family,Bph40,also conferred resistance to BPH.Collectively,the fortified sclerenchyma-mediated resistance mechanism revealed in this study expands our understanding of plant-insect interactions and opens a new path for controlling planthoppers in rice. | Shaojie Shi Huiying Wang Lingyun Nie Di Tan Cong Zhou Qian Zhang YiLi Bo Du Jianping Guo Jin Huang DiWu Xiaohong Zheng Wei Guan Junhan Shan Lili Zhu Rongzhi Chen Longjian Xue Linda L.Walling Guangcun He | 2021 | Molecular Plant2021,14,10: | 7 |

| 6 | Deterministic Approach to Achieve Full-Polarization Cloak显示文摘Achieving full-polarization(σ)invisibility on an arbitrary three-dimensional(3D)platform is a long-held knotty issue yet extremely promising in real-world stealth applications.However,state-of-the-art invisibility cloaks typically work under a specific polarization because the anisotropy and orientation-selective resonant nature of artificial materials made theσ-immune operation elusive and terribly challenging.Here,we report a deterministic approach to engineer a metasurface skin cloak working under an arbitrary polarization state by theoretically synergizing two cloaking phase patterns required,respectively,at spin-up(σ+)and spin-down(σ−)states.Therein,the wavefront of any light impinging on the cloak can be well preserved since it is a superposition ofσ+andσ−wave.To demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability,several proof-of-concept metasurface cloaks are designed to wrap over a 3D triangle platform at microwave frequency.Results show that our cloaks are essentially capable of restoring the amplitude and phase of reflected beams as if light was incident on a flat mirror or an arbitrarily predesigned shape under full polarization states with a desirable bandwidth of~17.9%,conceiving or deceiving an arbitrary object placed inside.Our approach,deterministic and robust in terms of accurate theoretical design,reconciles the milestone dilemma in stealth discipline and opens up an avenue for the extreme capability of ultrathin 3D cloaking of an arbitrary shape,paving up the road for real-world applications. | He-Xiu Xu Yanzhao Wang Chaohui Wang Mingzhao Wang Shaojie Wang Fei Ding Yongjun Huang Xiaokuan Zhang Haiwen Liu Xiaohui Ling Wei Huang | 2021 | Research2021,,1: | 5 |

| 19 | Luminescence,Concentration Quenching and Thermal Stability of White Emitting Phosphor Ba_2Ca(BO_3)_2:Dy^(3+)显示文摘A white emitting phosphor Ba2Ca(BO3)2:Dy3+ was synthesized via a high temperature solid state reaction at 1000℃ for 5 h. The luminescence, mole fraction quenching and thermal stability of Ba2Ca(BO3)2:Dy3+ were investigated. According to the phase composition analyzed by X-ray powder diffraction, there is no crystalline phase except Ba2Ca(BO3)2 in the sample. Ba2Ca(BO3)2:Dy3+ can produce white emission under 348 nm excitation. The emission intensities of Ba2Ca(BO3)2:Dy3+ are affected by Dy3+ concentration. The concentration quenching effect was analyzed, and the concentration quenching mechanism was verified as dipole-dipole interaction. The critical distance(R c) obtained based on the crystal structure data is 2.911 nm. At 150℃, the emission intensity of Ba2Ca(BO3)2:Dy3+ is 68.0% of the initial value at room temperature. The activation energy for the thermal quenching calculated is 0.202 e V.
