The essential oil components of Cinnamomum cassia: an analysis under different thinning models of plantation Pinus massoniana显示文摘Thinning is an important activity employed in forest management. To date, studies have mainly focused on the effects of thinning on the growth of trees during the same thinning period. In this study, plantation Pinus massoniana Lamb. near maturity were thinned at varying intensities and an economically important species, Cinnamomum cassia Presl., was planted beneath the thinned canopy. The aim of the study was to explore the effects of the extent of thinning on the essential oil content and its components of C. cassia in different parts of the plant, as well as the economic feasibility of the P. massoniana–C.cassia management model. Thinning significantly reduced the oil yield in the bark and branches of C. cassia, but hardly impacted the oil yield from C. cassia leaves compared with pure C. cassia forest(CK). Among the different thinning treatments, both light(T.4) and extensive(T.1)thinning reduced the oil yield of C. cassia bark and new branches. The concentrations of the main aldehydes differed in different parts of the plant and were affected by the extent of thinning. The influence on cinnamaldehyde in the bark was minor, but was much greater in the branches and leaves. Both the oil yield and content of cinnamaldehyde showed that moderate(T.3) thinning was more favorable than other thinning models. These results not only provide a potentially promising model for the transformation of low–yield artificial pure forests of P. massoniana in the future, but also offer a reference for the management of artificial mixed stands. | Dayan Tao Yuanfa Li Daodiao Lu Yehong Luo Sufang Yu Shaoming Ye | 2016 | Journal of Forestry Research2016,27,3: | 5
Optimization of control parameters of droplet density in citrus trees using UAVs and the Taguchi method显示文摘The control parameters of the unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)should be carefully designed to improve UAV spraying performance on citrus trees. The present study investigated the optimal droplet distribution control parameters in citrus trees using a UAV and the Taguchi method,of which optimal results were observed with an inverted triangle citrus tree canopy shape,a spraying height of 1.40 m,and a flight speed of 1.0 m/s.Among the discussed control parameters, the flight speed presented the most significant effect with a contribution percentage of 74.0%.The established multiple regression model predicted an optimal spraying height of 1.27 m and a maximum droplet density of 35.39 droplets/cm2.In addition, the effects of individual control parameter on the droplet density of the lower layer of citrus trees were systematically analyzed,of which inverted triangle shape more significantly affected the droplet density of the lower layer and presented an 82.0%increase in droplet density as compared to the triangle shape. An improvement of 59.6%in the lower layer droplet density was observed at a spraying height of 1.40 m.In addition, the other spraying heights did not present significant differences in their coefficient of variation(CV)values. | Chaojun Hou Yu Tang Shaoming Luo Jintian Lin Yong He Jiajun Zhuang Weifeng Huang | 2019 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2019,12,4: | 4
Dynamics of algae growth and nutrients in experimental enclosures culturing bighead carp and common carp: Phosphorus dynamics显示文摘This is the third paper of the series about 'Dynamics of algae growth and nutrients in experimental enclosures culturing bighead carp and common carp'.In this paper, phosphorus dynamics were investigated under the condition of culturing bighead carp and common carp with added fish food(nitrogen dynamics is discussed in the second paper because their behaviors are so different from each other).Nearly fifty days' observation results indicated that the reservoir water was typical of 'phosphorus limited' water, and soluble reactive phosphorus(SRP) was the main constituent of measured total phosphorus(TP).The presence of fish food resulted in significantly higher SRP,dissolved total phosphorus(DTP) and TP concentrations in contrast with the reservoir water. Moreover, continuous supply of fish food led to the decline of total nitrogen to total phosphorus(TN:TP) from more than 100 to less than5.Variations in the ratio of TN to TP favored the growth of blue-green algae.Fish species affected phosphorus concentrations, and culturing bait-eating common carp contributed more to reducing the SRP,DTP and TP concentrations than culturing planktivorous bighead carp.0.5%,4.1%and 3.1%TP can be removed in enclosures with culturing bighead carp, common carp and mixed bighead carp and common carp, respectively.Abundant phosphorus in the fish culturing activities may be present as the uneaten food, algae cells, and within the water column and sediment, which should be taken into serious consideration for the target of future water eutrophication prevention and safety of the drinking water supply. | Suiliang Huang Min Wu Changjuan Zang Shenglan Du Joseph Domagalski Magdalena Gajewska Feng Gao Chao Lin Yong Guo Baoyan Liu Shaoming Wang Yang Luo Adam Szymkiewicz Romuald Szymkiewicz | 2016 | International Journal of Sediment Research2016,31,2: | 3
An effective spray drift-reducing method for a plant-protection unmanned aerial vehicle显示文摘A spraying system for a plant-protection unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)was designed to reduce spray drift.A custom low-speed wind tunnel was constructed to generate a wind speed ranging from 0 to 5.92 m/s.The results showed that the wind speed was attenuated with an increase in distance. To compensate for the attenuation,a linear-fitting model was adopted. Then, the relationship between the spraying pressure and atomization rate was analyzed, and a fuzzy algorithm was adopted to adjust the spraying angle and pressure according to the wind speed and its changing rate. Finally,an evaluation of the proposed system in the compensated wind tunnel was conducted, and the drift distance was reduced by 33.7%compared with the system without adjustment of the spraying angle and pressure. | Yayong Chen Chaojun Hou Yu Tang Jiajun Zhuang Jintian Lin Shaoming Luo | 2019 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2019,12,5: | 2
Carbon-nanoparticle-assisted growth of high quality bilayer WS2 by atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition显示文摘Two-dimensional(2D)WS2 offers great prospects for assembling next-generation optoelectronic and electronic devices due to its thickness-dependent optical and electronic properties.However,layer-number-controlled growth of WS2 is still a challenge up to now. This work presents controlled growth of bilayer WS2 triangular flakes by carbon-nanoparticle-assisted chemical vapor deposition(CVD)process. The growth mechanism is also proposed. In addition, the field effect transistors(FETs)based on monolayer and bilayer WS2 are also fabricated and investigated. The bilayer FET displays a mobility of 34 cm2·V^-1·s^-1,much higher than that of the monolayer FET.The high figures of merit make bilayer WS2 a promising candidate in high-performance electronics and optoelectronics. | Jieyuan Liang Lijie Zhang Xiaoxiao Li Baojun Pan Tingyan Luo Dayan Liu Chao Zou Nannan Liu Yue Hu Keqin Yang Shaoming Huang | 2019 | Nano Research2019,12,11: | 2

Relationship between species diversity and tree size in natural forests around the Tropic of Cancer显示文摘Although numerous hypotheses have been proposed to explain the patterns of species diversity of forests at local and landscape levels,it is still difficult to predict the alpha diversity of species, especially in tropical and subtropical natural forests where trees of different sizes and shapes are highly mixed.Size might characterize species diversity, and the possible correlation between these variables may contribute to the development of easy-to-use growth indicators to predict diversity and to understand the status of trees within a stand. In this study, diameter classes were divided using the equal diameter class(EDC)and minimum measured diameter(MMD)methods, and five species diversity indices were calculated for each diameter class of 14 permanent plots in five national nature reserves surrounding the Tropic of Cancer(23.5°),southwest China. The results show that species richness, abundance, and spatial diversity indices decreased in a typical inverted J-shape pattern with increasing diameter class and MMD,and could be easily modeled by a negative exponential function. The ShannonWiener index showed a linear decrease while Pielou’s evenness index displayed a linear increase, with a small degree of instability. The results suggest that species diversity in subtropical forests is closely related to tree size, and the relationship is possibly independent of habitat.Measuring DBH of some trees in a stand could be informative regarding species diversity and contribute to the investigation and assessment of biodiversity. | Yuanfa Li Shaoming Ye Yinghua Luo Sufang Yu Gongqiao Zhang | 2023 | Journal of Forestry Research2023,34,6: | 0
Designing interstitial boron-doped tunnel-type vanadium dioxide cathode for enhancing zinc ion storage capability显示文摘Chemical doping is a powerful method to intrinsically tailor the electrochemical properties of electrode materials. Here,an interstitial boron-doped tunnel-type VO_(2)(B)is constructed via a facile hydrothermal method.Various analysis techniques demonstrate that boron resides in the interstitial site of VO_(2)(B)and such interstitial doping can boost the zinc storage kinetics and structural stability of VO_(2)(B)cathode during cycling.Interestingly,we found that the boron doping level has a saturation limit peculiarity as proved by the quantitative analysis.Notably, the 2 at.%boron-doped VO_(2)(B)shows enhanced zinc ion storage performance with a high storage capacity of 281.7 mAh g^(-1) at 0.1 A g^(-1),excellent rate performance of 142.2 mAh g^(-1) at 20 A g^(-1),and long cycle stability up to 1000 cycles with the capacity retention of 133.3 mAh g^(-1) at 5 A g^(-1).Additionally,the successful preparation of the boron-doped tunneltype α-MnO_(2) further indicates that the interstitial boron doping approach is a general strategy, which supplies a new chance to design other types of functional electrode materials for multivalence batteries. | Shiwen Wang Hang Zhang Kang Zhao Wenqing Liu Nairui Luo Jianan Zhao Shide Wu Junwei Ding Shaoming Fang Fangyi Cheng | 2023 | Carbon Energy2023,5,8: | 0
