6Compact low-birefringence polarization beam splitter using vertical-dual-slot waveguides in silicon carbide integrated platforms显示文摘The polarization beam splitter is a key component for polarization manipulation in photonic integrated circuits,but it is challenging to design for low-refractive-index optical materials,due to the low birefringence of the waveguides.We propose what we believe is a novel compact vertical-dual-slot waveguide-based coupling scheme for silicon carbide,enabling efficient low-birefringence polarization splitting by extensively modulating the transverse-magnetic mode distribution.We numerically and experimentally demonstrate the device in the 4H-siliconcarbide-on-insulator integrated platform,with a small footprint of 2.2 μm × 15 μm.The device,easy to fabricate via a single lithography process as other components on the chip,exhibits low insertion loss of <0.71 dB and <0.51 dB for the transverse-electric and transverse-magnetic polarized light,respectively,and polarization extinction ratio of >13 dB,over 80 nm wavelength range.XIAODONG SHI JINGJING ZHANG WEICHEN FAN YAOQIN LU NIANHUA PENG KARSTEN ROTTWITT AND HAIYAN OU 2022Photonics Research2022,10,1:1

13China's policy framework for carbon capture,utilization and storage:Review,analysis,and outlook显示文摘Carbon capture,utilization,and storage(CCUS)is estimated to contribute substantial CO_(2)emission reduction to carbon neutrality in China.There is yet a large gap between such enormous demand and the current capacity,and thus a sound enabling environment with sufficient policy support is imperative for CCUS development.This study reviewed 59 CCUS-related policy documents issued by the Chinese government as of July 2022,and found that a supporting policy framework for CCUS is taking embryonic form in China.More than ten departments of the central government have involved CCUS in their policies,of which the State Council,the National Development and Reform Commission(NDRC),the Ministry of Science and Technology(MOST),and the Ministry of Ecological Environment(MEE)have given the greatest attention with different focuses.Specific policy terms are further analyzed following the method of content analysis and categorized into supply-,environment-and demand-type policies.The results indicate that supply-type policies are unbalanced in policy objectives,as policy terms on technology research and demonstration greatly outnumber those on other objectives,and the attention to weak links and industrial sectors is far from sufficient.Environment-type policies,especially legislations,standards,and incentives,are inadequate in pertinence and operability.Demand-type policies are absent in the current policy system but is essential to drive the demand for the CCUS technology in domestic and foreign markets.To meet the reduction demand of China's carbon neutral goal,policies need to be tailored according to needs of each specific technology and implemented in an orderly manner with well-balanced use on multiple objectives.Qiao MA Shan WANG Yan FU Wenlong ZHOU Mingwei SHI Xueting PENG Haodong LV Weichen ZHAO Xian ZHANG 2023Frontiers in Energy2023,17,3:1
14Impacts of Atmospheric Boundary Layer Vertical Structure on Haze Pollution Observed by Tethered Balloon and Lidar显示文摘In this paper, the characteristics of the atmospheric boundary layer(ABL) vertical structure over the North China Plain(NCP) during a comprehensive observation experiment conducted during 15–21 December 2018 were investigated. Observational data were obtained with a large tethered balloon, Doppler wind lidar, and ground-level instruments. The maximum concentration of PM_(2.5) exceeded 200 μg m^(-3), and the ratio of PM_(2.5)/PM_(10) was approximately 0.4(its maxi-mum was approximately 0.8) during the whole observation period, indicating the explosive growth of dominant fine-mode aerosols in the winter heating season. Elevated concentrations of pollutants decreased the solar irradiance received by the ground, resulting in lower temperature at ground level. Our results illustrate three distinct types of vertical profiles: Type 1(convective state)—the concentration of PM_(2.5) decreased nearly linearly with increase of the height below approximately 600 m;Type 2(stable state)—the PM_(2.5) concentration sharply decreased from the ground to approximately 200 m;and Type 3(multilayer structure)—some pollutants were suspended aloft in the upper air layer. Diurnal evolution of the vertical profiles of PM_(2.5) and their relationship with the changes in meteorological factors were identified. From daytime to nighttime, the vertical profiles evolved from Type 1 to Type 2 or Type 3. All the 33 vertical PM_(2.5) profiles that we obtained showed a strong relationship with elements of the ABL structure, such as the distributions of winds, the inversion layer, and turbulence activities. 17Simultaneous regulation on coordination environment and interfacial chemistry via taurine for stabilized Zn metal anode显示文摘Aqueous Zn-ion batteries(AZIBs)are the potential options for the next-generation energy storage scenarios due to the cost effectiveness and intrinsic safety.Nevertheless,the industrial application of AZIBs is still impeded by a series of parasitic reactions and dendrites at zinc anodes.In this study,taurine(TAU)is used in electrolyte to simultaneously optimize the coordination condition of the ZnSO4electrolyte and interfacial chemistry at the anode.TAU can preferentially adsorb with the zinc metal and induce an in situ stable and protective interface on the anode,which would avoid the connection between H_(2)O and the zinc metal and promote the even deposition of Zn^(2+).The resulting Zn//Zn batteries achieve more than 3000 hours long cyclic lifespan under 1 mA cm^(-2)and an impressive cumulative capacity at 5 mA cm^(-2).Moreover,Zn//Cu batteries can realize a reversible plating/stripping process over 2,400cycles,with a desirable coulombic efficiency of 99.75%(1 mA cm^(-2)).Additionally,the additive endows Zn//NH_(4)V_(4)O_(10)batteries with more stable cyclic performance and ultrafast rate capability.These capabilities can promote the industrial application of AZIBs.Xin Xu Junyi Yin Ruimin Qin Haoliang Liu Xiang Feng Minghui Wang Mingyan Li Weiyu Sun Weichen Shi Bing Xiao Yaqiong Su Yonghong Cheng 2023Journal of Energy Chemistry2023,,11:0
18Different Turbulent Regimes and Vertical Turbulence Structures of the Urban Nocturnal Stable Boundary Layer显示文摘Turbulence in the nocturnal boundary layer(NBL)is still not well characterized,especially over complex underlying surfaces.Herein,gradient tower data and eddy covariance data collected by the Beijing 325-m tower were used to better understand the differentiating characteristics of turbulence regimes and vertical turbulence structure of urban the NBL.As for heights above the urban canopy layer(UCL),the relationship between turbulence velocity scale(VTKE)and wind speed(V)was consistent with the“HOckey-Stick”(HOST)theory proposed for a relatively flat area.Four regimes have been identified according to urban nocturnal stable boundary layer.Regime 1 occurs where local shear plays a leading role for weak turbulence under the constraint that the wind speed VVT and is mainly driven by bulk shear.Regime 3 is identified by the existence of moderate turbulence when upside-down turbulence sporadic bursts occur in the presence of otherwise weak turbulence.Regime 4 is identified as buoyancy turbulence,when V>VT,and the turbulence regime is affected by a combination of local wind shear,bulk shear and buoyancy turbulence.The turbulence activities demonstrated a weak thermal stratification dependency in regime 1,for which within the UCL,the turbulence intensity was strongly affected by local wind shear when VYu SHI Qingcun ZENG Fei HU Weichen DING Zhe ZHANG Kang ZHANG Lei LIU 2023Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2023,40,6:0
