1Focal adhesion protein Kindlin-2 regulates bone homeostasis in mice显示文摘Our recent studies demonstrate that the focal adhesion protein Kindlin-2 is critical for chondrogenesis and early skeletal development. Here, we show that deleting Kindlin-2 from osteoblasts using the 2.3-kb mouse Col1 a1-Cre transgene minimally impacts bone mass in mice, but deleting Kindlin-2 using the 10-kb mouse Dmp1-Cre transgene, which targets osteocytes and mature osteoblasts, results in striking osteopenia in mice. Kindlin-2 loss reduces the osteoblastic population but increases the osteoclastic and adipocytic populations in the bone microenvironment. Kindlin-2 loss upregulates sclerostin in osteocytes,downregulates β-catenin in osteoblasts, and inhibits osteoblast formation and differentiation in vitro and in vivo. Upregulation ofβ-catenin in the mutant cells reverses the osteopenia induced by Kindlin-2 deficiency. Kindlin-2 loss additionally increases the expression of RANKL in osteocytes and increases osteoclast formation and bone resorption. Kindlin-2 deletion in osteocytes promotes osteoclast formation in osteocyte/bone marrow monocyte cocultures, which is significantly blocked by an anti-RANKLneutralizing antibody. 4Occupational exposure to heavy metals, alcohol intake, and risk of type 2 diabetes and prediabetes among Chinese male workers显示文摘Objective: Both exposure to heavy metals and alcohol intake have been related to the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D). In this study, we aimed to assess the potential interactions between metal exposure and alcohol intake on the risk of T2D and prediabetes in a cohort of Chinese male workers. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 26,008 Chinese male workers in an occupational cohort study from 2011 to 2013. We assessed metal exposure and alcohol consumption at baseline in these workers who were aged ≥20 years. Based on occupations which were categorized according to measured urine metal levels, multiple logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the independent and joint effects of metal and alcohol exposure on the risk of T2D and prediabetes. Results: Risks of T2D (Ptrend= 0.0 0 1 ) and prediabetes (Ptrend = 0.001) were significantly elevated with increasing number of standard drinks per week, years of drinking, and lifetime alcohol consumption. An adjusted odds ratio (OR) of 6.1 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 4.8-7.8) was observed for the smelting/refining workers (highest metal exposure levels) who had the highest lifetime alcohol consumption (>873 kg)(Pinteraction = 0.018), whereas no statistically significant joint effect was found for prediabetes (Pinteraction =0.515). Conclusions: Both exposures to metal and heavy alcohol intake were associated with the risk of diabetes in this large cohort of male workers. 5Dielectric Properties of Bi_4Ti_3O_(12) Ceramics by Impedance Spectroscopic Method显示文摘Various lead-free ceramics have been investigated in search for new high-temperature dielectrics. In particular, Bi_4Ti_3O_(12) is a type of ferroelectric ceramics, which is supposed to replace leadcontaining ceramics for its outstanding dielectric properties in the near future. Ferroelectric ceramics of Bi_4Ti_3O_(12) made by conventional mixed oxide route have been studied by impedance spectroscopy in a wide range of temperature. X-ray diffraction patterns show that Bi_4Ti_3O_(12) ceramics are a single-phase of ferroelectric Bi-layered perovskite structure whether it is calcined at 800 ℃ or after sintering production. This study focused on the effect of the grain size on the electric properties of BIT ceramics. The BIT ceramics with different grain sizes were prepared at different sintering temperatures. Grain becomes coarser with the sintering temperature increasing by 50 ℃, relative permittivity and dielectric loss also change a lot. When sintered at 1 100 ℃, r values peak can reach 205.40 at a frequency of 100 k Hz, the minimum dielectric losses of four different frequencies make no difference, all close to 0.027. The values of Ea range from 0.52 to 0.68 e V. The dielectric properties of the sample sintered at 1 100 ℃ are relatively better than those of the other samples by analyzing the relationship of the grain, the internal stresses, the homogeneity and the dielectric properties. SEM can better explain the results of the dielectric spectrum at different sintering temperatures. The results show that Bi_4Ti_3O_(12) ceramics are a kind of dielectrics. 6Cucurbit[10]uril-based chemistry显示文摘Cucurbit[n]urils(CB[n]s,n = 5-8,10,13-15) have been proven to be an interesting macrocyclic family with their distinctive molecular recognition properties and fascinating applications in fields such as catalysis,supramolecular materials, drug delivery and biological systems. With the biggest cavity in the CB[n]s family, CB[10] shows its unique molecular recognition properties that are rather distinctive from other CB[n]s. In this review, we summarize the progresses in CB[10]-based chemistry since CB[10] was first reported as CB[10] CB[5] complex in 2001. 7Clinical manifestations and pathogen characteristics in children admitted for suspected COVID-19显示文摘Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2),has spread around the world.However,approaches to distinguish COVID-19 from pneumonia caused by other pathogens have not yet been reported.We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 97 children with probable COVID-19.A total of 13(13.4%)patients were confirmed positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection by nucleic acid RT-PCR testing,and 41(42.3%)patients were found to be infected with other pathogens.Notably,no pathogen was detected in 43(44.3%)patients.Among all patients,25(25.8%)had familial cluster exposure history,and 52(53.6%)had one or more coexisting conditions.Fifteen(15.5%)patients were admitted or transferred to the PICU.In the 11 confirmed COVID-19 cases,5(45.5%)and 7(63.6%)were positive for IgM and IgG against SARS-CoV-2,respectively.In 22 patients with suspected COVID-19,1(4.5%)was positive for IgG but negative for IgM.The most frequently detected pathogen was Mycoplasma pneumonia(29,29.9%).One patient with confirmed COVID-19 died.Our results strongly indicated that the detection of asymptomatic COVID-19 or coexisting conditions must be strengthened in pediatric patients.These cases may be difficult to diagnose as COVID-19 unless etiologic analysis is conducted.A serologic test can be a useful adjunctive diagnostic tool in cases where SARS-CoV-2 infection is highly suspected but the nucleic acid test is negative.Xiaofang Cai Hanlan Jiang Simin Zhang Shengying Xia Wenhui Du Yaoling Ma Tao Yu Wenbin Li 2020Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,6:2
8Dissolution-precipitation growth of uniform and clean two dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides显示文摘Two dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDCs)have attracted much interest and shown promise in many applications.However,it is challenging to obtain uniform TMDCs with clean surfaces,because of the difficulties in controlling the way the reactants are supplied to the reaction in the current chemical vapor deposition growth process.Here,we report a new growth approach called’dissolution-precipitation’(DP)growth,where the metal sources are sealed inside glass substrates to control their feeding to the reaction.Noteworthy,the diffusion of metal source inside glass to its surface provides a uniform metal source on the glass surface,and restricts the TMDC growth to only a surface reaction while eliminating unwanted gas-phase reaction.This feature gives rise to highly uniform monolayer TMDCs with a clean surface on centimeter-scale substrates.The DP growth works well for a large variety of TMDCs and their alloys,providing a solid foundation for the controlled growth of clean TMDCs by the fine control of the metal source.Zhengyang Cai Yongjue Lai Shilong Zhao Rongjie Zhang Junyang Tan Simin Feng Jingyun Zou Lei Tang Junhao Lin Bilu Liu Hui-Ming Cheng 2021National Science Review2021,8,3:2

12Construction of Photoresponsive 3D Structures Based on Triphenylethylene Photochromic Building Blocks显示文摘Photoresponsive materials have been widely used in sensing,bioimaging,molecular switches,information storage,and encryption nowadays.Although a large amount of photoresponsive materials have been reported,the construction of these smart materials into precisely prescribed complex 3D geometries is rarely studied.Here we designed a novel photoresponsive material methyl methacrylate containing triphenylethylene(TrPEF_(2)-MA)that can be directly used for digital light processing(DLP)3D printing.Based on TrPEF_(2)-MA,a series of photoresponsive 3D structures with reversible color switching under ultraviolet/visible light irradiations were fabricated.These complex photoresponsive 3D structures show high resolutions(50μm),excellent repeatability(25 cycles without fatigue),and tunable saturate color degrees.Multicomponent DLP 3D printing processes were also carried out to demonstrate their great properties in information hiding and information-carrying properties.This design strategy for constructing photoresponsive 3D structures is attractive in the area of adaptive camouflage,information hiding,information storage,and flexible electronics.Xiayu Zhang Fukang Liu Beibei Du Rongjuan Huang Simin Zhang Yunfei He Hailan Wang Jingjing Cui Biao Zhang Tao Yu Wei Huang 2022Research2022,,4:1

14The Synthesis of Sub-Nano-Thick Pd Nanobelt-Based Materials for Enhanced Hydrogen Evolution Reaction Activity显示文摘Tailoring atomic structures of noblemetal nanomaterials with size close to single-unit cell range is essential in both fundamental researchand applications,including their development into high catalytic performance materials in renewable,green energy conversions,devices for energy storage,and as biosensors for environmental pollutants.However,several strategies used in fabricating these materials still impose enormous challenges,arising from lack of even size distribution,shape uniformity,and controlled composition,which are critical in determining their specific activities and efficiencies.Herein,we report a facile approach for preparing sub-nano-thick palladium nanobelt-based(PdNB)materials.Then we rationalized the formation mechanism of such highly anisotropic structures by morphology-related thermodynamic and kinetic analysis.Moreover,we investigated if electrocatalysis performance of these NB-basedmaterialswere enhanced.Thepalladium(Pd)NBs featured a thickness of∼0.9-1.2 nm and width of 5-18nmwith length extending to severalmicrometers[denoted as Pd(0.9)],or a thickness of∼0.7-0.9 nm and width of 2.5-6 nmwith length of several hundreds of nanometers[denoted as Pd(0.7)].According to our theoretical analysis,one-dimensional(1D)growth encountered almost no energy barrier at optimal reaction conditions,whereas the growth of Pd nanostructures with other dimensions confronted high barriers,indicating that it was plausible to prepare 1D structures with sizes close to single-unit cells.Also,platinum(Pt)could be successfully doped into the Pd(0.9)NBs through a galvanic epitaxial growth,forming edge-Pt-enriched Pd NBs(eePtPd NBs).Further,electron transfer from Pd to Pt imparted the eePtPd NBs with high hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)activity.The eePtPd NBs showed a 3.5 and 1.8 times higher in exchange current density and mass activity(at−0.1 V),respectively,compared to those of Pt catalysts in perchloric acid(HClO_(4))solutions.Finally,the NBs all showed high activity toward ethanol and formic acid oxidation reactions.Our current work aids in gaining insights into tailoring Pd nanostructures at an atomic level and provides Pd sub-nanometric 1D structures for further research.Moreover,our morphology-related thermodynamic and kinetic analysis extend our understanding of the control of nanostructure morphology and might shed light on the precision of designing specific morphologies of noble metal nanocrystal structures.Bing Ni Qinghua Zhang Chen Ouyang Simin Zhang Biao Yu Jing Zhuang Lin Gu Xun Wang 2020CCS Chemistry2020,2,1:1
15A continuous simulation of Holocene effective moisture change represented by variability of virtual lake level in East and Central Asia显示文摘The fluctuation of a single lake level is a comprehensive reflection of water balance within the basin, while the regional consistent fluctuations of lake level can indicate the change of regional effective moisture. Previous researches were mainly focused on reconstructing effective moisture by multiproxy analyses of lake sediments. We carried out a series of experiments, including a transient climate evolution model, a lake energy balance model and a lake water balance model to simulate continuous Holocene effective moisture change represented by variability of virtual lake level in East and Central Asia.The virtual lake level, area, water depth and salinity are not equivalent to actual values, but we estimated relative changes of the regional effective moisture. We also explored the driving mechanisms of effective moisture change in different geographical regions. Our results indicated that gradually falling effective moisture during the Holocene in northern China was due to the combined effects of high lake evaporation caused by longwave and shortwave radiation, and low precipitation caused by reductions of summer solar insolation. A decline in effective moisture through the Holocene in the Tibetan Plateau and southern Central Asia resulted from decreased precipitation because of the weakening of the Asian summer monsoon.
