1Retroperitoneal cystic lymphangioma in an adult:A case report and review of the literature显示文摘Lymphangiomas are rare benign cystic tumors of the lymphatic system.Retroperitoneal lymphangiomas account for 1%of all lymphangiomas,and approximately 186 cases have been reported.They may clinically present as a palpable abdominal mass and can cause diagnostic dilemmas with other retroperitoneal cystic tumors,including those arising from the liver,kidney and pancreas.This report describes the rare case of a cystic retroperitoneal lymphangioma in a 54-year-old male patient.The lymphangioma had progressed to the point of inducing clinical symptoms of abdominal distention,abdominal pain,anorexia,fever,nausea and diarrhea.Radiological imaging revealed a large multiloculated cystic abdominal mass with enhancing septations involving the upper retroperitoneum and extending into the pelvis.Surgical removal of the cyst was accomplished without incident.A benign cystic retroperitoneal lymphangioma was diagnosed on histology and confirmed with immunohistochemical stains.Tapan Bhavsar Daryoush Saeed-Vafa Sean Harbison Susan Inniss 2010World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pathophysiology2010,1,5:12
2Review of System Strength and Inertia Requirements for the National Electricity Market of Australia显示文摘Synchronous generators(SGs)are still making major contributions to the re-stabilization of a power system following voltage/frequency disturbances,attributed to their inherent capability of providing system strength and inertia.However,SGs powered by fossil fuels are operating to a lesser extent and scheduled for decommissioning in the National Electricity Market(NEM)of Australia due to the accelerating increase of low bidding priced asynchronous generation of wind and solar,which leads to the reduction and even in some cases,a shortage of system strength and inertia.This paper comprehensively reviews the requirements of system strength and inertia in the NEM from an operational security perspective.Australia is the first country that established the regulation rules of system strength and inertia to accommodate issues of an emerging high penetration level of non-synchronous renewable generation.Huajie Gu Ruifeng Yan Tapan Saha 2019CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2019,5,3:12
3Mineralogy and carbothermal reduction behaviour of vanadium-bearing titaniferous magnetite ore in Eastern India显示文摘Vanadium-bearing titaniferous magnetite bands hosted by Precambrian gabbro-norite-anorthositic rocks or their metamorphic equivalents were discovered in some parts of Eastern Indian Shield,containing 48%-49%Fe(total),10%-25%TiO2,and 0.3%-2.20%V2O5by mass.Mineralogical and petrological study,composition,and characterization of the vanadium-bearing titaniferous magnetite ore were carried out by scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray(SEM-EDX),wave length X-ray florescence(WDXRF),inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy(ICP-AES),X-ray difraction(XRD),etc.Chemical beneficiation for valuable metals,such as Fe,Ti,and V,was performed by reduction roasting.The direct and indirect reduction were investigated by mixing the lump ore with solid activated charcoal in a closed reactor and purging the reducing gas mixture in standard reducibility index apparatus at diferent temperatures and time intervals.The reduction roasting parameters were optimized.Finally,the reduced samples were crushed and upgraded by magnetic separation.The results show that,the maximum mass fractions of magnetic and nonmagnetic parts achieved are 69.36%and 30.64%,respectively,which contain 10.6%TiO2and 0.84%V2O5in the magnetic part and 36.5%TiO2and 0.22%V2O5in the nonmagnetic part.Saikat Samanta Manik Chandra Goswami Tapan Kumar Baidya Siddhartha Mukherjee Rajib Dey 2013International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2013,20,10:9

6Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio is useful for the prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘There is increasing evidence that neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)may play a role in predicting recurrence in patients with hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)after liver transplantation.In the original study by Yan et al,it was aimed to determine whether an elevated NLR is associated with tumor recurrence.Total tumor size(>9 cm)and macro-vascular invasion were found to be more significant than NLR according to the multivariate logistic regression analysis.Therefore,substantive significance should be emphasized rather than NLR because total tumor size and macro-vascular invasion are easier and more expressive than NLR in assessing HCC recurrence.NLR and platelet-lymphocyte ratio(PLR)are markers which are easy to obtain and can be used as inflammation indicators.Moreover,assessment of both NLR and PLR may add some value as a good predictor of risk for post-liver transplantation HCC recurrence.However,while the study was constructed on whole blood analysis,further details about the features and performance characteristics of the whole-blood analyzer,and preanalytical/analytical variables should also be mentioned.Huseyin Kayadibi Erdim Sertoglu Metin Uyanik Serkan Tapan 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,28:7
7Synthesis of ion imprinted polymers for selective recognition and separation of rare earth metals显示文摘Lanthanide-ion imprinted polymers(L-IIPs) were synthesized by stoichiometric amounts of rare earth ions and the cavities in the polymers were created for the corresponding lanthanide ions. The maximum sorption capacities were estimated to be 125.3, 126.5, 127.6, 128.2 and 129.1 mg/g for Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu and Gd, respectively at p H 6. In the selectivity study, the L-IIPs exhibited good selectivity to the specific rare earth ions in the presence of coexisting cations. 9WISE USE OF WETLAND FOR SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD THROUGH PARTICIPATORY APPROACH:A CASE OF ADAPTING TO CLIMATE CHANGE显示文摘The facts showed that the number of unemployment people is increasing and a large part of them live in the low-lying areas to be facing the challenge from impacts of climate change. So adaptive capacity of the poverty level for sustainable livelihood in vulnerable wetlands is related to coping with local climate change. This paper focuses on soil-less agriculture (Hydroponics) as an alternative source of livelihood means for the communities having no lands for cultivation. Approximately half of Bangladesh is covered with wetlands. The prospect of enormous productivity lies in the development of wetland resources. The soil-less agriculture is an indigenous practice in the middle of southwestern part of Bangladesh. The people who lives within the wetland ecosystems uses locally available paddy straws, water hyacinths and various invasively aquatic plants for making the floating mat or organic bed on which crops, vegetables and seedlings are grown. The productivity of this farming system is much higher than that of terrestrials agricultural and the system can support fisheries of open water. The compost generated from organic refuse bed is a kind of enriched nutrient and can act as a soil conditioner. It would be a major source of nutrients in aquaculture as well. The system is capable to ensure more agriculture production by restoring wetlands from aquatic invasive plant. 10Role of Microstructural Constituents on Surface Crack Formation During Hot Rolling of Standard and Low Nickel Austenitic Stainless Steels显示文摘The effect of alloy segregation and delta (δ) ferrite contents on surface cracking of three standard (i.e. AISI 304L, AISI 310S and AISI 321) and two low nickel (i.e. LNi-1 and LNi-0.3) austenitic stainless steels (ASS) during hot rolling was investigated using optical microscopy (OM), automatic image analyzer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and electron probe micro analyzer (EPMA). It was observed that the amount of δ-ferrite varied among different grades and also distributed heterogeneously across the width of the steel plates. In general, low nickel ASS showed higher amount of δ-ferrite compared to the standard ASS grades. The tendency to surface cracking during hot rolling gradually increased with increasing δ-ferrite content. Interestingly, carbon and nitrogen exerted maximum effect on δ-ferrite formation. The higher carbon and nitrogen content in the steel decreased δ-ferrite content. In addition, the segregation of Cu and Mn plays significant role in low nickel ASS and Ni-Cr in case of standard ASS has profound effect on surface cracking of the steel plates. 11Binding interaction of phosphorus heterocycles with bovine serum albumin:A biochemical study显示文摘Interaction between bovine serum albumin(BSA) and phosphorus heterocycles(PHs) was studied using multispectroscopic techniques. The results indicated the high binding affinity of PHs to BSA as it quenches the intrinsic fluorescence of BSA. The experimental data suggested the fluorescence quenching mechanism between PHs and BSA as a dynamic quenching. From the UV–vis studies, the apparent association constant(K_(app)) was found to be 9.25×10~2, 1.27×10~4and 9.01×10~2L/mol for the interaction of BSA with PH-1, PH-2 and PH-3,respectively. According to the F?rster's non-radiation energy transfer(FRET) theory, the binding distances between BSA and PHs were calculated. The binding distances(r) of PH-1, PH-2 and PH-3 were found to be2.86, 3.03, and 5.12 nm, respectively, indicating energy transfer occurs between BSA and PHs. The binding constants of the PHs obtained from the fluorescence quenching data were found to be decreased with increase of temperature. The negative values of the thermodynamic parameters ΔH, ΔS and ΔG at different temperatures revealed that the binding process is spontaneous; hydrogen bonds and van der Waals interaction were the main force to stabilize the complex. The microenvironment of the protein-binding site was studied by synchronous fluorescence and circular dichroism(CD) techniques and data indicated that the conformation of BSA changed in the presence of PHs. 14Is increased red cell distribution width an indicating marker of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and fibrotic stage?显示文摘Red cell distribution width(RDW)may play an important role in predicting steatohepatitis and liver fibrosis.In the original study,it was aimed to determine whether RDW could be used for this purpose or not.There are studies indicating that higher RDW is correlated well with components of metabolic syndrome.Because nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is now recognized as the hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome,possible impact of the accompanying confounders on the study findings should have been detailed.There may be a patient selection bias due to use of improper cutoff values for alcohol consumption and inclusion of only subjects with normal aminotransferase levels and normal abdominal ultrasonography.Patients without hepatosteatosis on ultrasonography and with any restriction of aminotransferase levels should have been included in the control group,because isolated aminotransferase elevation is not decisive in the diagnosis of hepatosteatosis.Although iron,vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiencies were included in exclusion criteria,functional forms of these molecules like methylmalonic acid,homocysteine,ferritin levels and total iron binding capacity,which are more sensitive and specific parameters for vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiencies,were not mentioned.Consequently,RDW,an inexpensive,non-invasive,but powerful indicator overlooked on whole blood analysis,itself without other inflammatory markers may not accurately provide information about progression of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and fibrosis.Huseyin Kayadibi Erdim Sertoglu Metin Uyanik Serkan Tapan 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,35:3
15Clinical laboratory and imaging evidence for effectiveness of agarose-agarose macrobeads containing stem-like cells derived from a mouse renal adenocarcinoma cell population (RMBs) in treatment-resistant, advanced metastatic colorectal cancer:Evaluation of显示文摘Objective: The complexity, heterogeneity and capacity of malignant neoplastic cells and tumors for rapid change and evolution suggest that living-cell-based biological-systems approaches to cancer treatment are merited. Testing this hypothesis, the tumor marker, metabolic activity, and overall survival(OS) responses, to the use of one such system, implantable macrobeads [RENCA macrobeads(RMBs)], in phase I and IIa clinical trials in advanced,treatment-resistant metastatic colorectal cancer(m CRC) are described here.Methods: Forty-eight m CRC patients(30 females; 18 males), who had failed all available, approved treatments,underwent RMB implantation(8 RMB/kg body weight) up to 4 times in phase I and phase IIa open-label trials.Physicals, labs [tumor and inflammation markers, lactate dehydrogenase(LDH)] and positron emission tomography-computed tomography(PET-CT) imaging to measure number/volume and metabolic activity of the tumors were performed pre-and 3-month-post-implantation to evaluate safety and initial efficacy(as defined by biological responses). PET-CT maximum standard uptake value(SUVmax)(baseline and d 90; SUVmax ≥2.5), LDH,and carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA) and/or cancer antigen 19-9(CA 19-9) response(baseline, d 30 and/or d 60)were assessed and compared to OS.Results: Responses after implantation were characterized by an at least 20% decrease in CEA and/or CA 19-9 in75% of patients. Fluorodeoxyglucose(FDG)-positive lesions(phase I, 39; 2 a, 82) were detected in 37/48 evaluable patients, with 35% stable volume and stable or decreased SUV(10) plus four with necrosis; 10, increased tumor volume, SUV. LDH levels remained stable and low in Responders(R)(d 0–60, 290.4–333.9), but increased steadily in Non-responders(NR)(d 0–60, 382.8–1,278.5)(d 60, P=0.050). Responders to RMBs, indicated by the changes in the above markers, correlated with OS(R mean OS=10.76 months; NR mean OS=4.9 months; P=0.0006).Conclusions: The correlations of the tumor marker, tumor volume and SUV changes on PET-CT, and LDH levels themselves, and with OS, support the concept of a biological response to RMB implantation and the validity of the biological-systems approach to m CRC. 16Climate change impacts on streamflow,water quality,and best management practices for the Shell and Logan Creek Watersheds in Nebraska,USA显示文摘Improvements in the management of water,sediment,and nutrients under future climatic conditions are needed to ensure increased crop and livestock production to meet greater global needs and the future availability of water for competing demands and protection against adverse water quality impairments.This study determined the impacts of future climate change scenarios on streamflow,water quality,and best management practices(BMPs)for two watersheds in Nebraska,USA.The Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)was employed to simulate streamflow,sediment,total nitrogen(N)and total phosphorus(P)from the Shell Creek Watershed near Columbus,Nebraska and the Logan Creek Watershed near Sioux City,Iowa.Available streamflow and water quality records for the two watersheds were used to calibrate model parameters that govern streamflow,sediment,and nutrient responses in SWAT.For each watershed,precipitation,air temperature,and CO2 concentrations were input to SWAT for four climatic conditions:a baseline condition for the 1980 to 2000 period and the SRES A2,A1B,and B1 climate scenarios for a future period from 2040 to 2059.Findings from this study suggest that under the three future climate change scenarios,sediment losses are expected to be about 1.2 to 1.5 times greater than the baseline condition for Shell Creek and 2 to 2.5 times greater for Logan Creek;total N losses are expected to be about 1.2 to 1.4 times greater for Shell Creek and 1.7 to 1.9 times greater for Logan Creek.Relative to the baseline,total P losses under the future climate scenarios are projected to be about the same for Shell Creek and 1.5 to 1.7 times greater for Logan Creek.Findings from this study also suggest that future projected increases in both precipitation and CO2 concentration account for net increases in streamflow,but in different ways on each watershed.Michael W.Van Liew Song Feng Tapan B.Pathak 2012International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2012,5,1:2
17Isolation and in vivo hep-atoprotective activity of Melothria heterophylla(Lour.) Cogn.against chemically induced liver injuries in rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate hepatoprotective activity of ethanol extract of Melothria heterophyila Lour Cogn.(EEMH) against CCl4-induced hepatic damage in rats.Methods:β-sitosterol was isolated by column chromatography and characterized spectroscopically.Two different doses(200 and 400 mg/kg bw) of EEMH were administered orally in alternate days.The hepatoprotective activity was studied in liver by measuring biochemical parameters such as serum aspartate amino transferase(AST),alanine amino transferase(ALT),alkaline phosphatase(ALP),total protein and total bilirubin.Lipid peroxidation product and different antioxidant enzyme activities were assessed in liver homogenate.Results:EEMH reduced all biochemical parameters and lipid peroxidation,as well as it increased the antioxidant enzyme activities in comparison with silymarin.The protective effect of the extract on CCl4 induced damage was confirmed by histopathological examination of the liver.Conclusions:This result strongly supports the protective effect of EEMH against acute liver injury,and may be attributed to its antioxidative activity.Arijit Mondal Tapan Kumar Maity Dilipkumar Pal Santanu Sannigrahi Jagadish Singh 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,8:2
