1Investigation on the process parameters of TIG-welded aluminum alloy through mechanical and microstructural characterization显示文摘Multi-pass TIG welding was conducted on plates(15×300×180 mm^(3))of aluminum alloy Al-5083 that usually serves as the component material in structural applications such as cryogenics and chemical processing industries.Porosity formation and solidification cracking are the most common defects when TIG welding Al-5083 alloy,which is sensitive to the welding heat input.In the experiment,the heat input was varied from 0.89 kJ/mm to 5 kJ/mm designed by the combination of welding torch travel speed and welding current.Tensile,micro-Vicker hardness and Charpy impact tests were executed to witness the impetus response of heat input on the mechanical properties of the joints.Radiographic inspection was performed to assess the joint’s quality and welding defects.The results show that all the specimens displayed inferior mechanical properties as compared to the base alloy.It was established that porosity was progressively abridged by the increase of heat input.The results also clinched that the use of medium heat input(1-2 kJ/mm)offered the best mechanical properties by eradicating welding defects,in which only about 18.26% of strength was lost.The yield strength of all the welded specimens remained unaffected indica ted no influence of heat input.Partially melted zone(PMZ)width also affected by heat input,which became widened with the increase of heat input.The grain size of PMZ was found to be coarser than the respective grain size in the fusion zone.Charpy impact testing revealed that the absorbed energy by low heat input specimen(welded at high speed)was greater than that of high heat input(welded at low speed)because of low porosity and the formation of equiaxed grains which induce better impact toughness.Cryogenic(-196℃)impact testing was also performed and the results corroborate that impact properties under the cryogenic environment revealed no appreciable change after welding at designated heat input.Finally,Macro and micro fractured surfaces of tensile and impact specimens were analyzed using Stereo and Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),which have supported the experimental findings.Muhammad Samiuddin Jing-long Li Muhammad Taimoor Mohammad Nouman Siddiqui Sumair Uddin Siddiqui Jiang-tao Xiong 2021Defence Technology(防务技术)2021,17,4:5

6Zika virus,a pathway to new challenges显示文摘The current Zika outbreak is largest of its kind with 1.4 million cases in Brazil alone.World Health Organization declared the current outbreak as the public health emergency of international concerns.The major route of Zika virus transmission is mosquito bites.Sexual transmission and monkey bites are also observed in few cases.There is dire need to evaluate the other routes of transmission like blood transfusion,lactation and contact with body fluids.Zika virus is infecting infants,not only causing microcephaly but also creating number of complications resulting in bad outcomes of pregnancy.In Brazil alone,4 000 cases of microcephaly have observed during the current outbreak.The incidence of Guillian-Barre(GB) syndrome is also observed during the current Zika virus outbreak.GB syndrome is acute medical condition leading the patients to death due to weakness of respiratory muscles or can cause the life time disability.There is no anti-viral drug or vaccine available for Zika virus.Zika infection can be prevented by using mosquito repellents,mosquito nets,cooling rooms by air conditions and wearing full sleeves or permethrin treated clothes.The current outbreak of Zika has not only affected the health care but also caused great economic loss.Estimated loss in Latin America and Caribbean is US$3.5 billion.United Nation's sustainable development goal 3.d stresses the strengthening of early warning,risk reduction and management of national and global health risks.The world will keep on facing new challenges in the form of Ebola or Zika;there is strong need to prepare ourselves for any disease outbreak.Zubia Jamil Yasir Waheed Taimoor Zeb Durrani 2016Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,7:1

9Preclinical Strength Checking for Artificial Pelvic Prosthesis under Multi-activities-A Case Study显示文摘Customized prostheses are normally employed to reconstruct the biomechanics of the pelvis after resection due to tumors or accidents.The objective of this study is to evaluate the biomechanics of the pelvis under different daily activities and to establish a functional evaluation methodology for the customized prostheses.For this purposes,finite element model of a healthy pelvis as well as a reconstructed pelvic model after type II+III resection were built for biomechanical study.The biomechanical perfonnance of the healthy and reconstructed pelvic model was studied under routine activities including standing,knee bending,sitting down,standing up,walking,stair descent and stair ascent.Subsequently,the strength and stability of the prosthesis were evaluated under these activities.Results showed that,for the heathy pelvic model,the stresses were mainly concentrated around the upper part of the sacrum and the sacroiliac joint undergoing different activities,and the maximum stress occurred during stair ascent.As for the reconstructed pelvis,the stress distribution and the tendency of the maximum stress variation predicted for the bone part during all the activities were similar to those of the natural pelvic model,which indicated that the load transferring function of the reconstructed pelvis could be restored by the prosthesis.Moreover,the predicted maximum von Mises stress of the screws and prosthesis was below the fatigue strength of the 3D printed Ti-6A1-4V,which indicated the prosthesis can provide a reliable mechanical performance after implantation.Enchun Dong Taimoor Iqbal Jun Fu Dichen Li Bin Liu Zheng Guo Alberto Cuadrado Zhen Zhen Ling Wang Hongbin Fan 2019Journal of Bionic Engineering2019,16,6:0
10Seed germination and seedling emergence of four tree species of southern China in response to acid rain显示文摘Acid rain has become a major concern due to increasing atmospheric pollution,particularly in China.We investigated whether acid rain inhibits the germination of seeds and subsequent emergence of seedling of four tree species from southern China:Cunninghamia lanceolata,Fokienia hodginisi,Pinus massoniana and Phoebe zhennan by simulating acid rain with pH of 2.5,3.5,4.5 and 5.5.We hypothesized that the inhibitory effect of acid rain on germination of seeds and emergence of seedling varies between species and the degree of acidity.A solution of 1 N H2SO4 and 1 N HNO 3 in the ratio of 10–1 was prepared and diluted to four pH levels,and seeds were supplied with solutions of these pH values and distilled water as control and tested for germination in a controlled growth chamber.The results revealed that simulated acid rain of pH 2.5 adversely affected the germination capacity of F.hodginisi and P.zhennan;while all acid solutions significantly increased germination of P.Massoniana;but had no effect on germination of C.Lanceolata seeds.Strong acid solution(pH of 2.5)adversely affected elongation of radicle and hypocotyl as well as fresh and dry weights of radicle and hypocotyl of tender seedlings.The result demonstrated that seedling emergence is more sensitive than seed germination to simulated acid rain,and germination of conifer species are less sensitive than broad leaved species to simulated acid rain.As a whole,acid rain of pH of 3.5 is the threshold level and acid rain below this value will have a detrimental effect on seed germination and seedling emergence.Matoor Mohsin Gilani Mulualem Tigabu Bo Liu Taimoor Hassan Farooq Muhammad Haroon URashid Muhammad Ramzan Xiangqing Ma 2021Journal of Forestry Research2021,32,2:0

12Efficient Deep Learning Framework for Fire Detection in Complex Surveillance Environment显示文摘To prevent economic,social,and ecological damage,fire detection and management at an early stage are significant yet challenging.Although computationally complex networks have been developed,attention has been largely focused on improving accuracy,rather than focusing on real-time fire detection.Hence,in this study,the authors present an efficient fire detection framework termed E-FireNet for real-time detection in a complex surveillance environment.The proposed model architecture is inspired by the VGG16 network,with significant modifications including the entire removal of Block-5 and tweaking of the convolutional layers of Block-4.This results in higher performance with a reduced number of parameters and inference time.Moreover,smaller convolutional kernels are utilized,which are particularly designed to obtain the optimal details from input images,with numerous channels to assist in feature discrimination.In E-FireNet,three steps are involved:preprocessing of collected data,detection of fires using the proposed technique,and,if there is a fire,alarms are generated and transmitted to law enforcement,healthcare,and management departments.Moreover,E-FireNet achieves 0.98 accuracy,1 precision,0.99 recall,and 0.99 F1-score.A comprehensive investigation of various Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)models is conducted using the newly created Fire Surveillance SV-Fire dataset.The empirical results and comparison of numerous parameters establish that the proposed model shows convincing performance in terms of accuracy,model size,and execution time.Naqqash Dilshad Taimoor Khan JaeSeung Song 2023Computer Systems Science & Engineering2023,46,7:0

14Upregulated hepatic expression of mitochondrial PEPCK triggers initial gluconeogenic reactions in the HCV-3 patients显示文摘Objective: To identify the differential expression of candidate gluconeogenic genes which may initiate hepatitis C virus(HCV) related metabolic disorder during early stages of disease. Methods: Patients of diverse age and sex, with positive HCV genotype 3(HCV-3) RNA in serum and with no history of other related infections, co-infections, alcoholism, diabetes or chemotherapeutic treatments were considered for this study. Semi-quantitative reverse transcriptase PCR analysis and quantitative fold change analysis of the fresh liver biopsies of eight chronically infected HCV-3 patients and six healthy individuals were evaluated for three potential biomarkers involved in glucose homeostasis induction, namely mitochondrial phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase 2(PCK2), glucose-6-phosphatase catalytic subunit(G6PC) and associated forkhead box protein 01(FOXO1). Results: Symptomatic evaluation, clinical history and blood test were conducted according to general disease prognosis procedures and reported here. Significantly upregulated expression of PCK2 independent of age, sex and viral infectivity levels in all HCV patients was observed, whereas no significant changes in the expression of G6 PC and FOXO1 were found. Conclusions: PCK2 triggers initial gluconeogenic reactions which ultimately result in the accumulation of glycogen in the liver hepatocytes. 15Jailing polymer jacketed guide-wires during bifurcation coronary interventions is associated with procedural myocardial infarction显示文摘AIM To study the relationship of jailed polymer jacketed guide wires(PGW) with procedural myocardial infarction(PMI) after bifurcation coronary interventions.METHODS Consecutive bifurcation interventions performed from January 2010 to October 2014 were included in the study. Chart review was performed to obtain demographic, clinical and procedural data. PMI was defined as Creatine Kinase MB > 3 × upper reference limit of normal. Multivariate logistic regression was used to ascertain relationship of PGW use with PMI.RESULTS Two hundred and ninety-three patients(age 63.5 ± 12.3 years; 33.8% diabetic) were included in the study. Eighty point two percent(n = 235) were true bifurcation lesions use of PGW was associated with PMI on univariate analysis(OR = 4.1; P = 0.002). This association remained significant after adjusting for other possible risk factors(OR = 3.5; P = 0.02).CONCLUSION Our results suggest that PGW use for side branch protection may be associated with PMI.
