| 1 | An international program on Silk Road Disaster Risk Reduction--a Belt and Road initiative (2016-2020)显示文摘Belt and Road Initiative(BRI) is a Chinese national strategy which calls for cooperative economic, political and cultural exchange at the global level along the ancient Silk Road. The overwhelming natural hazards located along the belt and road bring great challenges to the success of BRI. In this framework, a 5-year international program was launched to address issues related to hazards assessment and disaster risk reduction(DRR). The first workshop of this program was held in Beijing with international experts from over 15 countries. Risk conditions on Belt and Road Countries(BRCs) have been shared and science and technology advancements on DRR have been disseminated during the workshop. Under this program, six task forces have been setup to carry out collaborative research works and three prioritized study areas have been established. This workshop announced the launching of this program which involved partners from different countries including Pakistan, Nepal, Russia, Italy, United Kingdom, Sri Lanka and Tajikistan. The program adopted the objectives of Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and United Nation Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and was implemented to assess disaster risk in BRCs and to propose suitable measures for disaster control which can be appropriate both for an individual country and for specific sites. | 4 | Antibiotics in two municipal sewage treatment plants in Sri Lanka:Occurrence,consumption and removal efficiency显示文摘Most of the monitoring data on the occurrence of antibiotics in sewage treatment plants(STPs)have been reported from Europe,North America and some countries in Northeast Asia,while very limited data can be found in Southeast Asian countries.As a pioneering research in Sri Lanka,we collected 24 h composite wastewater samples at the influent and effluent of two municipal STPs for consecutive 7 days to investigate occurrence,consumption and removal efficiency of seventeen antibiotics.The STP was located in Colombo and Hikkaduwa,respectively,representing two kinds of communities(i.e.local and tourists)in Sri Lanka.The targeted antibiotics were extracted by solid-phase extraction method and detected on an Agilent HPLCMSMS(1290/6470QQQ).Results illustrated that the majority of the antibiotics can be always detected from both STPs,except for chlorotetracycine(CTC),doxycycline(DOX)and florfenicol(FF).Fluoroquinolones(FQs)were detected at highest concentrations with ciprofloxacin(CIP)being the dominant compound.Concentrations of CIP in the influent samples were in the range of 433 e6010 ng/L.The consumption of antibiotics was estimated on the basis of influent mass load and catchment population data.We found difference in consumption patterns between the two served areas.Compared to local people in Colombo,tourists in Hikkaduwa appeared to take more antibiotics during the study period with the estimated daily dose of 0.25 g per 1000 persons.Moreover,macrolides accounted for a larger portion than FQs in Hikkaduwa,with azithromycin(AZM)being the most prevalent antibacterial agent.After comparison with an official report by Medical Supplies Division of Sri Lanka,we conjected that AZM was not commonly used among local people and it was mainly introduced by foreign arrivals.As for the removal efficiency,the activated sludge system of Colombo exhibited better elimination and more stable performance than the constructed wetland process of Hikkaduwa. | Dilanka N.D.Samaraweera Xin Liu Guangcai Zhong Tilak Priyadarshana Riffat Naseem Malik Gan Zhang Mahdi Safaei Khorram Zewen Zhu Xianzhi Peng | 2019 | Emerging Contaminants2019,5,1: | 3 |
| 5 | Effect of disturbance on biomass,production and carbon dynamics in moist tropical forest of eastern Nepal显示文摘Background: Forest biomass is helpful to assess its productivity and carbon(C) sequestration capacity. Several disturbance activities in tropical forests have reduced the biomass and net primary production(NPP) leading to climate change. Therefore, an accurate estimation of forest biomass and C cycling in context of disturbances is required for implementing REDD(Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) policy.Methods: Biomass and NPP of trees and shrubs were estimated by using allometric equations while herbaceous biomass was estimated by harvest method. Fine root biomass was determined from soil monolith. The C stock in vegetation was calculated by multiplying C concentration to dry weight.Results: Total stand biomass(Mg?ha^(-1)) in undisturbed forest stand(US) was 960.4 while in disturbed forest stand(DS) it was 449.1. The biomass(Mg?ha^(-1)) of trees, shrubs and herbs in US was 948.0, 4.4 and 1.4,respectively, while in DS they were 438.4, 6.1 and 1.2, respectively. Total NPP(Mg?ha^(-1)?yr^(-1)) was 26.58(equivalent to 12.26 Mg C?ha^(-1)?yr^(-1)) in US and 14.91(6.88 Mg C?ha^(-1)?yr^(-1)) in DS. Total C input into soil through litter plus root turnover was 6.78 and 3.35 Mg?ha^(-1)?yr^(-1)in US and DS, respectively.Conclusions: Several disturbance activities resulted in the significant loss in stand biomass(53 %), NPP(44 %), and C sequestration capacity of tropical forest in eastern Nepal. The net uptake of carbon by the vegetation is far greater than that returned to the soil by the turnover of fine root and litter. Therefore, both stands of present forest act as carbon accumulating systems. | 9 | Rice GLUTATHIONE PEROXIDASE1-mediated oxidation of bZIP68 positively regulates ABA-independent osmotic stress signaling显示文摘Osmotic stress caused by drought and high salinity is a significant environmental threat that limits plant growth and agricultural yield. Redox regulation plays an important role in plant stress responses, but the mechanisms by which plants perceive and transduce redox signals are still underexplored. Here, we report a critical function for the thiol peroxidase GPX1 in osmotic stress response in rice, where it serves as a redox sensor and transducer. GPX1 is quickly oxidized upon exposure to osmotic stress and forms an intramolecular disulfide bond, which is required for the activation of bZIP68, a VRE-like basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factor involved in the ABA-independent osmotic stress response pathway. The disulfide exchange between GPX1 and bZIP68 induces homo-tetramerization of bZIP68 and thus positively regulates osmotic stress response by regulating osmotic-responsive gene expression. Furthermore, we discovered that the nuclear translocation of GPX1 is regulated by its acetylation under osmotic stress.
