Diffusion tensor imaging assesses white matter injury in neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy显示文摘With improvements in care of at-risk neonates, more and more children survive. This makes it increasingly important to assess, soon after birth, the prognosis of children with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Computed tomography, ultrasound, and conventional magnetic resonance imaging are helpful to diagnose brain injury, but cannot quantify white matter damage. In this study, ten full-term infants without brain injury and twenty-two full-term neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy(14 moderate cases and 8 severe cases) underwent diffusion tensor imaging to assess its feasibility in evaluating white matter damage in this condition. Results demonstrated that fractional anisotropy, voxel volume, and number of fiber bundles were different in some brain areas between infants with brain injury and those without brain injury. The correlation between fractional anisotropy values and neonatal behavioral neurological assessment scores was closest in the posterior limbs of the internal capsule. We conclude that diffusion tensor imaging can quantify white matter injury in neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. | Hong-xin Li Xing Feng Qian Wang Xuan Dong Min Yu Wen-juan Tu | 2017 | Neural Regeneration Research2017,12,4: | 19
Blocking FSH inhibits hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis and reduces serum cholesterol显示文摘Menopause is associated with dyslipidemia and an increased risk of cardio-cerebrovascular disease. The classic view assumes that the underlying mechanism of dyslipidemia is attributed to an insufficiency of estrogen. In addition to a decrease in estrogen, circulating follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)levels become elevated at menopause. In this study,we find that blocking FSH reduces serum cholesterol via inhibiting hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis.First, epidemiological results show that the serum FSH levels are positively correlated with the serum total cholesterol levels, even after adjustment by considering the effects of serum estrogen,in addition, the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia is significantly higher in peri-menopausal women than that in premenopausal women.Furthermore,we generated a mouse model of FSH elevation by intraperitoneally injecting exogenous FSH into ovariectomized (OVX)mice,in which a normal level of estrogen (E2)was maintained by exogenous supplementation. Consistently, the results indicate that FSH,independent of estrogen, increases the serum cholesterol level in this mouse model. Moreover, blocking FSH signaling by anti-FSHβ antibody or ablating the FSH receptor (FSHR)gene could effectively prevent hypercholesterolemia induced by FSH injection or high-cholesterol diet feeding.Mechanistically,FSH,via binding to hepatic FSHRs, activates the Gi2α/β-arrestin-2/Akt pathway and subsequently inhibits the binding of FoxO1 with the SREBP-2 promoter, thus preventing FoxO1 from repressing SREBP-2 gene transcription. This effect,in turn, results in the upregulation of SREBP-2,which drives HMGCR nascent transcription and de novo cholesterol biosynthesis, leading to the increase of cholesterol accumulation. This study uncovers that blocking FSH signaling might be a new strategy for treating hypercholesterolemia during menopause, particularly for women in peri-menopause characterized by FSH elevation only. | Yanjing Guo Meng Zhao Tao Bo Shizhan Ma Zhongshang Yuan Wenbin Chen Zhao He Xu Hou Jun Liu Zhenhai Zhang Qiang Zhu Qiangxiu Wang Xiaoyan Lin Zhongli Yang Min Cui Lu Liu Yujie Li Chunxiao Yu Xiaoyi Qi Qian Wang Haiqing Zhang Qingbo Guan Lifang Zhao Shimeng Xuan Huili Yan Yanliang Lin Li Wang Qihang Li Yongfeng Song Ling Gao Jiajun Zhao | 2019 | Cell Research2019,29,2: | 16
Experiment on Leader Propagation Characteristics of Air Gaps in UHVDC Transmission Towers Under Positive Switching Impulse Voltages显示文摘Rapid developments in EHV/UHV transmission systems require a deeper understanding of the mechanism of long air gap discharge.Leader propagation is one of the main processes in long gap breakdown. In this paper, the leader propagation characteristics of real size±800 kV UHVDC transmission tower gaps under positive switching impulse voltages(185/2290μs)are investigated. An integrated observation platform consisting of an impulse voltage divider,a coaxial shunt,a high-speed video camera, and a set of integrated optical electric field sensors(IOES),is established. The waveforms of impulse voltage, discharge current, electric field variation at specific positions, and time-resolved photographs of discharge morphology are recorded.Axial leader velocity and the relationship between leader advancements and injected charge are obtained. The typical value of leader stable propagation velocity is 1.7–2.2 cm/μs,which varies slightly with the gap length and applied voltage amplitude. The leader velocity in the re-illumination process is much higher, and is seen as varying from 5 cm/μs to 30 cm/μs,with an average value around 10 cm/μs.The charge in leader channel per unit length is 20–40μC/m,which illustrates a near-direct proportion relationship between discharge current and leader velocity. The observed parameters are important for further simulation of the tower gap breakdown processes. | Xuan Zhou She Chen Hai Wang Rong Zeng Chijie Zhuang Junjie Yu Yujian Ding | 2015 | CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2015,1,3: | 12
Characteristics of ozone pollution and the sensitivity to precursors during early summer in central plain, China显示文摘In this study,we conducted an observation experiment from May 1 to June 30,2018 in Zhengzhou,a major city in central China, where ground ozone(O3)pollution has become serious in recent years. The concentrations of O3 and its precursors,as well as H2O_(2) and meteorological data were obtained from the urban site(Yanchang,YC),suburban(Zhengzhou University,ZZU)and background sites(Ganglishuiku,GLSK).Result showed that the rates of O3 concentration exceeded Chinese National Air Quality Standard GradeⅡ(93.3 ppbv)were 59.0%,52.5%,and 55.7%at the above three sites with good consistency, respectively, indicating that O3 pollution is a regional problem in Zhengzhou. The daily peak O3 appeared at 15:00-16:00,which was opposite to VOCs,NOx,and CO and consistent with H2O_(2).The exhaustive statistical analysis of meteorological factors and chemical effects on O3 formation at YC was advanced. The high concentration of precursors, high temperature, low relative humidity, and moderately high wind speed together with the wind direction dominated by south and southeast wind contribute to urban O3 episodes in Zhengzhou.O3 formation analysis showed that reactive alkenes such as isoprene and cis-2-butene contributed most to O3 formation. The VOCs/NOx ratio and smog production model were used to determine O3-VOC-NOx sensitivity. The O3 formation in Zhengzhou during early summer was mainly under VOC-limited and transition regions alternately, which implies that the simultaneous emission reduction of alkenes and NOx is effective in reducing O3 pollution in Zhengzhou. | Yasong Li Shasha Yin Shijie YU Ling Bai Xudong Wang Xuan Lu Shuangliang Ma | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,1: | 10
Whole-Genome Resequencing of a Worldwide Collection of Rapeseed Accessions Reveals the Genetic Basis of Ecotype Divergence显示文摘Rapeseed (Brassica napus),an important oilseed crop, has adapted to diverse climate zones and latitudes by forming three main ecotype groups, namely winter, semiwinter, and spring types. However, genetic variations underlying the divergence of these ecotypes are largely unknown. Here,we report the global pattern of genetic polymorphisms in rapeseed determined by resequencing a worldwide collection of 991 germplasm accessions.A total of 5.56 and 5.53 million singlenucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs)as Well as 1.86 and 1.92 million InDels were identified by mapping reads to the reference genomes of 'Darmor-bzh'and 'Tapidor,'respectively. We generated a map of allelic drift paths that shows splits and mixtures of the main populations, and revealed an asymmetric evolution of the two subgenomes of B.napus by calculating the genetic diversity and linkage disequilibrium parameters.Selective-sweep analysis revealed genetic changes in genes orthologous to those regulating various aspects of plant development and response to stresses.A genome-wide association study identified SNPs in the promoter regions of FLOWERING LOCUS T and FLOWERING LOCUS C orthologs that corresponded to the different rapeseed ecotype groups. Our study provides important insights into the genomic footprints of rapeseed evolution and flowering-time divergence among three ecotype groups, and will facilitate screening of molecular markers for accelerating rapeseed breeding. | Dezhi Wu Zhe Liang Tao Yan Ying Xu Lijie Xuan Juan Tang Gang Zhou Ulrike Lohwasser Shuijin Hua Haoyi Wang Xiaoyang Chen Qian Wang Le Zhu Antony Maodzeka Nazim Hussain Zhilan Li Xuming Li Imran Haider Shamsi Ghulam Jilani Linde Wu Hongkun Zheng Guoping Zhang Boulos Chalhoub Lisha Shen Hao Yu Lixi Jiang | 2019 | Molecular Plant2019,12,1: | 10

Diabetic foot ulcers:Classification, risk factors and management显示文摘Diabetic foot ulceration is a devastating complication of diabetes that is associated with infection, amputation, and death, and is affecting increasing numbers of patients with diabetes mellitus. The pathogenesis of foot ulcers is complex, and different factors play major roles in different stages. The refractory nature of foot ulcer is reflected in that even after healing there is still a high recurrence rate and amputation rate, which means that management and nursing plans need to be considered carefully. The importance of establishment of measures for prevention and management of DFU has been emphasized. Therefore,a validated and appropriate DFU classification matching the progression is necessary for clinical diagnosis and management. In the first part of this review,we list several commonly used classification systems and describe their application conditions, scope, strengths, and limitations;in the second part,we briefly introduce the common risk factors for DFU,such as neuropathy, peripheral artery disease, foot deformities, diabetes complications, and obesity.Focusing on the relationship between the risk factors and DFU progression may facilitate prevention and timely management;in the last part,we emphasize the importance of preventive education, characterize several of the most frequently used management approaches, including glycemic control, exercise, offloading, and infection control, and call for taking into account and weighing the quality of life during the formulation of treatment plans.Multidisciplinary intervention and management of diabetic foot ulcers(DFUs)based on the effective and systematic combination of these three components will contribute to the prevention and treatment of DFUs,and improve their prognosis. | Xuan Wang Chong-Xi Yuan Bin Xu Zhi Yu | 2022 | World Journal of Diabetes2022,13,12: | 9
Involvement of the Mitochondrion-dependent and the Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress-signaling Pathways in Isoliquiritigenin-induced Apoptosis of HeLa Cell显示文摘Objective Isoliquiritigenin(ISL),a licorice chalconoid,is considered to be a bioactive agent with chemopreventive potential. This study investigates the mechanisms involved in ISL-induced apoptosis in human cervical carcinoma HeLa cells. Methods Cell viability was evaluated using a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide(MTT)assay.Apoptosis was determined by flow cytometry using an Annexin V-FITC Apoptosis Detection Kit.The intracellular ROS levels were assessed using a 2,7-dichlorofluorescein probe assay. The mitochondrial membrane potential was measured with the dual-emission potential-sensitive probe 5,5',6,6'-tetra-chloro-1,1',3,3'-tetraethyl-imidacarbocyanine iodide(JC-1).The degradation of poly-ADP-ribose polymerase(PARP)protein, the phosphorylation of PKR-like ER kinase(PERK),the phosphorylation of the α-subunit of eukaryotic initiation factor 2(eIF2α),the expression of the 78 kD glucose-regulated protein(GRP 78),and the activation of caspase-12 were analyzed via western blot analysis. Results ISL significantly inhibited the proliferation, the increase in ROS levels and apoptotic rates of HeLa cells in a concentration-dependent manner. Moreover,ISL induced mitochondrial dysfunction, caspase activation, and PARP cleavage, which displayed features of mitochondria dependent on apoptotic signals.Besides, exposure of HeLa cells to ISL triggered endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress,as indicated by the increase in p-eIF2α and GRP78 expression,ER stress-dependent apoptosis is caused by the activation of ER-specific caspase-12.Conclusion The findings from our study suggest that ISL-induced oxidative stress causes HeLa cell apoptosis via the mitochondrion-dependent and the ER stress-triggered signaling pathways. | YUAN Xuan ZHANG Bo GAN Lu WANG Zhen Hua YU Ba Cui LIU Liang Liang ZHENG Qiu Sheng WANGZhi Ping | 2013 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2013,26,4: | 8
Feasibility and advantage of biofilm-electrode reactor for phenol degradation显示文摘The new biofilm-electrode method was used for the phenol degradation, because of its low current requirement. The biofilm-electrode reactor consisted of immobilized degrading bacteria on Ti electrode as cathode and Ti/PbO2 electrode as anode. With the biofilmelectrode reactor in a divided electrolytic cell, the phenol degradation rate could achieve 100%at 18 h which was higher than using traditional methods, such as biological or electrochemical methods.Chemical oxygen demand(COD)removal rate of the biofilmelectrode reactor was also greater than that using biological and electrochemical method, and could reach 80%at 16 h.The results suggested that the biofilm-electrode reactor system can be used to treat wastewater with phenol. | ZHANG Xuena HUANG Weimin WANG Xuan GAO Yu LIN Haibo | 2009 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,9: | 8
Mechanism underlying berberine's effects on HSP70/TNFα under heat stress:Correlation with the TATA boxes显示文摘Heat stress can stimulate an increase in body temperature, which is correlated with increased expression of heat shock protein 70(HSP70) and tumor necrosis factor α(TNFα).The exact mechanism underlying the HSP70 and TNFα induction is unclear.Berberine(BBR) can significantly inhibit the temperature rise caused by heat stress, but the mechanism responsible for the BBR effect on HSP70 and TNFα signaling has not been investigated. The aim of the present study was to explore the relationship between the expression of HSP70 and TNFα and the effects of BBR under heat conditions, using in vivo and in vitro models. The expression levels of HSP70 and TNFα were determined using RT-PCR and Western blotting analyses. The results showed that the levels of HSP70 and TNFα were up-regulated under heat conditions(40 °C).HSP70 acted as a chaperone to maintain TNFα homeostasis with rising the temperature, but knockdown of HSP70 could not down-regulate the level of TNFα.Furthermore,TNFα could not influence the expression of HSP70 under normal and heat conditions.BBR targeted both HSP70 and TNFα by suppressing their gene transcription, thereby decreasing body temperature under heat conditions. In conclusion,BBR has a potential to be developed as a therapeutic strategy for suppressing the thermal effects in hot environments. | JIANG Jing-Fei LEI Fan YUAN Zhi-Yi WANG Yu-Gang WANG Xin-Pei YAN Xiao-Jin YU Xuan XING Dong-Ming DU Li-Jun | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines2017,15,3: | 8

Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear. Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks. Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease, while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes. | MA Yan ZHU Dong Shan CHEN Ren Bo SHI Nan Nan LIU Si Hong FAN Yi Pin WU Gui Hui YANG Pu Ye BAI Jiang Feng CHEN Hong CHEN Li Ying FENG Qiao GUO Tuan Mao HOU Yong HU Gui Fen HU Xiao Mei HU Yun Hong HUANG Jin HUANG Qiu Hua HUANG Shao Zhen JI Liang JIN Hai Hao LEI Xiao LI Chun Yan LI Min Qing LI Qun Tang LI Xian Yong LIU Hong De LIU Jin Ping LIU Zhang MA Yu Ting MAO Ya MO Liu Fen NA Hui WANG Jing Wei SONG Fang Li SUN Sheng WANG Dong Ting WANG Ming Xuan WANG Xiao Yan WANG Yin Zhen WANG Yu Dong WU Wei WU Lan Ping XIAO Yan Hua XIE Hai Jun XU Hong Ming XU Shou Fang XUE Rui Xia YANG Chun YANG Kai Jun YUAN Sheng Li ZHANG Gong Qi ZHANG Jin Bo ZHANG Lin Song ZHAO Shu Sen ZHAO Wan Ying ZHENG Kai ZHOU Ying Chun ZHU Jun Teng ZHU Tian Qing ZHANG Hua Min WANG Yan Ping WANG Yong Yan 无 | 2020 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2020,33,12: | 8
Reduced genome size of Helicobacter pylori originating from East Asia显示文摘Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori),a major pathogen colonizing the human stomach, shows great genetic variation.Comparative analysis of strains from different H.pylori populations revealed that the genome size of strains from East Asia decreased to 1.60 Mbp,which is significantly smaller than that from Europe or Africa. In parallel with the genome reduction, the number of protein coding genes was decreased, and the guaninecytosine content was lowered to 38.9%.Elimination of non-essential genes by mutations is likely to be a major cause of the genome reduction.Bacteria with a small genome cost less energy.Thus,H.pylori strains from East Asia may have proliferation and growth advantages over those from Western countries. This could result in enhanced capacity of bacterial spreading. Therefore, the reduced genome size potentially contributes to the high prevalence of H.pylori in East Asia. | Quan-Jiang Dong Li-Li Wang Zi-Bing Tian Xin-Jun Yu Sheng-Jiao Jia Shi-Ying Xuan | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,19: | 8
Exosome-mediated metabolic reprogramming:the emerging role in tumor microenvironment remodeling and its influence on cancer progression显示文摘Metabolic reprogramming is reported to be one of the hallmarks of cancer, which is an adaptive mechanism by which fast-growing cancer cells adapt to their increasing energy demands.Recently, extracellular vesicles(EVs)known as exosomes have been recognized as crucial signaling mediators in regulating the tumor microenvironment(TME).Meanwhile, the TME is a highly heterogeneous ecosystem incorporating cancer cells, fibroblasts, adipocytes, endothelial cells, mesenchymal stem cells, and extracellular matrix.Accumulated evidence indicates that exosomes may transfer biologically functional molecules to the recipient cells, which facilitate cancer progression, angiogenesis, metastasis, drug resistance, and immunosuppression by reprogramming the metabolism of cancer cells and their surrounding stromal cells. In this review,we present the role of exosomes in the TME and the underlying mechanism of how exosomes exacerbate tumor development through metabolic reprogramming. In addition,we will also discuss the potential role of exosomes targeting metabolic process as biomarkers for tumor diagnosis and prognosis, and exosomes-mediated metabolic reprogramming as potential targets for cancer therapy.Furthermore,a better understanding of the link between exosomes and metabolic reprogramming, and their impact on cancer progression, would provide novel insights for cancer prevention and treatment in the future. | Enli Yang Xuan Wang Zhiyuan Gong Miao Yu Haiwei Wu Dongsheng Zhang | 2020 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2020,5,1: | 7
