Dehydration at subduction zones and the geochemistry of slab fluids显示文摘Subducting oceanic slabs undergo metamorphic dehydration with the increase of temperature and pressure during subduction.Dehydration is an essential step for element recycling, and slab fluids are critical agents for mediating slab-mantle interaction.Dehydration is mainly controlled by the thermal structure of subduction zones and the stability of hydrous minerals. At fore-arc depths, slab dehydration produces aqueous fluid with dissolved salts such as NaCl.As subduction proceeds deeper, the content of silicate components increases. At sub-arc and post-arc depths,a hydrous silicate melt is likely to form,or a supercritical fluid could arise from complete miscibility between silicates and H_(2)O.The partitioning of elements between slab fluid and the residual solid rock is controlled by the type of fluid, and generally it is the supercritical fluid that is the most capable of mobilizing trace elements, being an effective carrier even for high field strength elements.Understanding the chemistry of slab fluids relies on sophisticated integration of experiments, theoretical computation and investigation of natural rock samples. This contribution focuses on the content and speciation of key volatiles, including carbon, nitrogen and sulfur,in slab fluids as well as important fluid properties such as oxygen fugacity and acidity. The properties of slab fluids show complicated variation under the control of mineral assemblages and T-P conditions.Slab fluids at great depths of subductions have been inferred to be modestly alkaline and not necessarily very oxidizing as often assumed.Further progress in the research of slab dehydration and the chemistry and properties of slab fluids demands urgently the development of innovative experimental and computational technology including in situ analytical methods at high T-P.Wancai Li Huaiwei Ni 2020Science China Earth Sciences2020,63,12:3
Metal ion-promoted fabrication of melanin-like poly(L-DOPA)nanoparticles for photothermal actuation显示文摘Melanin-inspired polymers are currently the focus of growing interest for a wide range of applications ranging from energy to biomedical area.Whilst researchers have made numerous attempts to prepare and utilize polydopamine nanoparticles(PDA NPs),they have made limited progress in developing and discovering another typical functional mimic of natural melanin,poly(levodopa)(P(L-DOPA))NPs,probably due to the lack of facile synthetic strategies towards satisfactory structural and functional control of melanin-like NPs.Herein,we reported a one-pot preparation method towards P(L-DOPA)NPs with good yields and controllable size/property in an aqueous solution assisted by various metal ions(i.e.,Ni(II),Mg(II),Ca(II),Fe(III),Mn(II),Co(II),Zn(II)and Cd(II)).Interestingly, the resulting P(L-DOPA)NPs exhibited enhanced light absorption and photothermal behaviors compared with well-established PDA NPs,which can be employed to further fabricate kinds of photothermal composite actuators with promising performances such as folding, switching, and forward-moving.This study offers a facile and robust way to synthesize new synthetic melanins beyond PDA,and facilitates further functional discovery and evolution of melanin-inspired polymers and composites.Xianheng Wang Lei Yang Peng Yang Wancai Guo Quan-Ping Zhang Xianhu Liu Yiwen Li 2020Science China Chemistry2020,63,9:3
Giant enhancement of photoluminescence quantum yield in 2D perovskite thin microplates by graphene encapsulation显示文摘The optoelectronic performances of the layered materials are strongly dependent on the thickness of the samples due to the surface effect. As the size of the samples decreases to few nanometers, the surface depletion field and surface defect density are prominent arising from the large surface to volume ratio. For instance, thin two-dimensional(2D)organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite microplates usually exhibit a rather low photoluminescence quantum yield(PLQY),owning to the strong surface effect. Here,we report that the PLQY can be enhanced as large as 28 times in(iso-BA)2Pbl4(BA=C4H9NH3)2D perovskite thin microplates encapsulated by graphene, resulting in that the PLQY is more than 18%for the microplate with a thickness of 6.7 nm at 78 K.As the thickness of the 2D perovskite microplate increases, the enhancement is gradually reduced and finally vanishes. This observation is in striking contrast to that in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs),when the PLQY is quenched by covering a layer of graphene due to the efficient charge transfer. The enhancement of PLQY in 2D perovskites can be mainly ascribed to the reduced quantum confined Stark effect(QCSE)due to the reduced surface depletion field after covering graphene flake, resulting in the enhanced radiative recombination efficiency. Our findings provide a cost-effective approach to enhance the luminescence, which may pave the way toward high performance light emitting devices based on 2D perovskites.Wancai Li Jiaqi Ma Xue Cheng Dehui Li 2021Nano Research2021,14,6:3
Methodological progress in trace amounts of structural water in nominally anhydrous minerals显示文摘In the deep Earth, hydrogen mainly occurs as structural hydroxyl and molecular water in minerals and melts, constituting mobile and immobile aqueous components. Hydrous minerals contain hydrogen which occupies a specific structural position and constitutes an indispensable component of chemical formulae. On the other hand, nominally anhydrous minerals do not contain hydrogen in their chemical formulae, but can host trace amounts of water in structural position and lattice defect. The molecular water may occur in the lattice defect as fluid/melt inclusions in minerals. Even though the water content of nominally anhydrous minerals is very limited generally in the order of ppm(parts per million), they may play a significant role in influencing the physicochemical properties of mineral and rock systems. With the continuous improvement of modern instrumentations, the analytical methodology exhibits trends for higher spatial resolution, lower detection limit and integral multiple methods on the water amount and its isotopic ratio. Among these methods, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry remains the most widely used, while secondary ion mass spectrometry, continuous flow mass spectrometry, elastic recoil detection analysis and Raman spectrometry are promising. This paper provides a brief review on the methodological progress and their applications to the analysis of structural water in nominally anhydrous minerals.SHENG YingMing GONG Bing LI WanCai XIA Mei 2016Science China Earth Sciences2016,59,5:2

Genomic analysis, trajectory tracking, and field surveys reveal sources and long-distance dispersal routes of wheat stripe rust pathogen in China显示文摘Identifying sources of phytopathogen inoculum and determining their contributions to disease outbreaks are essential for predicting disease development and establishing control strategies.Puccinia striiformis f.sp.tritici(Pst),the causal agent of wheat stripe rust,is an airborne fungal pathogen with rapid virulence variation that threatens wheat production through its long-distance migration.Because of wide variation in geographic features, climatic conditions, and wheat production systems,Pst sources and related dispersal routes in China are largely unclear. In the present study,we performed genomic analyses of 154 Pst isolates from all major wheat-growing regions in China to determine Pst population structure and diversity.Through trajectory tracking, historical migration studies, genetic introgression analyses, and field surveys,we investigated Pst sources and their contributions to wheat stripe rust epidemics. We identified Longnan, the Himalayan region, and the Guizhou Plateau, which contain the highest population genetic diversities,as the Pst sources in China.Pst from Longnan disseminates mainly to eastern Liupan Mountain, the Sichuan Basin, and eastern Qinghai;that from the Himalayan region spreads mainly to the Sichuan Basin and eastern Qinghai;and that from the Guizhou Plateau migrates mainly to the Sichuan Basin and the Central Plain. These findings improve our current understanding of wheat stripe rust epidemics in China and emphasize the need for managing stripe rust on a national scale.Yuxiang Li Jichen Dai Taixue Zhang Baotong Wang Siyue Zhang Conghao Wang Jiguang Zhang Qiang Yao Mingju Li Chengyun Li Yuelin Peng Shiqin Cao Gangming Zhan Fei Tao Haifeng Gao Weili Huang Xiaojun Feng Yingwen Bai Zhuoma Qucuo Hongsheng Shang Chong Huang Wancai Liu Jiasui Zhan Xiangming Xu Xianming Chen Zhensheng Kang Xiaoping Hu 2023Plant Communications2023,4,4:1

Surface depletion field in 2D perovskite microplates: Structural phase transition, quantum confinement and Stark effect显示文摘Surface depletion field would introduce the depletion region near surface and thus could significantly alter the optical, electronic and optoelectronic properties of the materials, especially low-dimensional materials.Two-dimensional(2D)organic—inorganic hybrid perovskites with van der Waals bonds in the out-of-plane direction are expected to have less influence from the surface depletion field;nevertheless, studies on this remain elusive. Here we report on how the surface depletion field affects the structural phase transition, quantum confinement and Stark effect in 2D(BA)2PbI4 perovskite microplates by the thickness-,temperature-and power-dependent photoluminescence(PL)spectroscopy.Power dependent PL studies suggest that high-temperature phase(HTP)and low-temperature phase(LTP)can coexist in a wider temperature range depending on the thickness of the 2D perovskite microplates. With the decrease of the microplate thickness, the structural phase transition temperature first gradually decreases and then increases below 25 nm,in striking contrast to the conventional size dependent structural phase transition.Based on the thickness evolution of the emission peaks for both high-temperature phase and low-temperature phase, the anomalous size dependent phase transition could probably be ascribed to the surface depletion field and the surface energy difference between polymorphs. This explanation was further supported by the temperature dependent PL studies of the suspended microplates and encapsulated microplates with graphene and boron nitride flakes.Along with the thickness dependent phase transition, the emission energies of free excitons for both HTP and LTP with thickness can be ascribed to the surface depletion induced confinement and Stark effect.Wancai Li Chen Fang Haizhen Wang Shuai Wang Junze Li Jiaqi Ma Jun Wang Hongmei Luo Dehui Li 2019Nano Research2019,12,11:1
Invasion and defense of the basic social unit in a nonhuman primate society leads to sexual differences in the gut microbiome显示文摘Multilevel society is one of the most complex social systems in natural ecosystems and is a typical feature among some primates.Given the potential connection between social behavior and gut microbiome composition, the multilevel social system could affect the primate gut microbiome. Here, based on long-term observation(e.g.social unit dynamics, transfer, and behavior),we investigated this potential integrating 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing and behavior data in Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys(Rhinopithecus bieti),which possess a multilevel social group based on one male units(OMUs,each unit with several breeding females and their offspring)and all-male unit(AMU,several bachelor males residing together). We found that the mean unweighted Unifrac distance between adult males from different OMUs was significantly lower than that between adult females from different OMUs(paired Wilcoxon test,P=0.007).There was no significant difference in the mean unweighted Unifrac distance between females within the same OMU or between females from different OMUs.These findings indicated the potential connection between the defense and invasion of social units and the gut microbiome community in wild Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys. We speculated that the resident males of OMUs displaying a significantly higher similarity in the gut microbial community than that of adult females in separate OMUs might be associated with the sexual differences in their interactions and from previously having cohabitated together in the AMU.Therefore, this study suggested that multilevel societies might have an effect on the gut microbial community in this wild nonhuman primate species.Wancai XIA Mei ZHAO Dali WANG Fan WANG Hua CHEN Guoqi LIU Lifeng ZHU Dayong LI 2022Integrative Zoology2022,17,1:0
A new treatment for cognitive disorders related to in utero exposure to alcohol显示文摘Maternal alcohol consumption during pregnancy has detrimental effects on fetal central nervous system development. Maternal alcohol consumption prior to and during pregnancy significantly affects cognitive functions in offspring, which may be related to changes in cyclin-dependent kinase 5 because it is associated with modulation of synaptic plasticity and impaired learning and memory. In this study, we examined adult offspring in a maternal alcohol consumption model in rats. Y-maze test results showed that in utero exposure to alcohol impairs learning and memory capacities. Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 mRNA and protein expressions in the hippocampus of the offspring were significantly elevated, as assayed by quantitative real-time PCR and reverse transcription-PCR, immunofluorescence, and immuno-precipitation. Our experimental findings strongly suggest that altered cyclin-dependent kinase 5 may mediate impaired learning and memory in adult rats that were exposed to alcohol by maternal consumption while in utero.Shuang Li Yan Zhang Feng Zhu Bin Zhang Jianying Lin Chunyang Xu Wancai Yang Wei Hao Ruiling Zhang 2013Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,18:0
Dispersal patterns in Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys显示文摘Sex-biased dispersal is common in group-living animals.Due to differences in local demographic and environmental factors,sex-biased dispersal presents many irregular patterns. In this study,a habituated, individually identified Yunnan snub-nosed monkey Rhinopithecus bieti group was observed over 9 years;192 dispersal events, including 97 male dispersal events(25 natal dispersal and 72 secondary dispersal)and 95 female dispersal events(34 natal dispersal and 61 secondary dispersal)were observed.Males and females showed different dispersal paths, dispersal ages, and dispersal patterns.Females had 2 dispersal paths, whereas males had 4 paths. In terms of age of dispersal, the male age of natal dispersal was younger than for females.Males prefer single dispersal, whereas females prefer parallel dispersal. Our study indicates that the dispersal pattern of R.bieti should be classified as a bisexual dispersal pattern. The differences in dispersal path, average age at dispersal, and dispersal path pattern indicate that Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys may still retain a loose matrilineal social system.Wancai XIA Fan WANG Dali WANG Xiaoqin ZENG Chan YANG Ali KRZTON Baoping REN Dayong LI 2022Current Zoology2022,68,3:0
