| 1 | Third generation of vortex identification methods:Omega and Liutex/Rortex based systems显示文摘A vortex is intuitively recognized as the rotational/swirling motion of fluids,but a rigorous and universally-accepted definition is still not available.Vorticity tube/filament has been regarded equivalent to a vortex since Helmholtz proposed the concepts of vorticity tube/filament in 1858 and the vorticity-based methods can be categorized as the first generation of vortex identification methods.During the last three decades,a lot of vortex identification methods,including 0,A,and Aci criteria,have been proposed to overcome the problems associated with the vorticity-based methods.Most of these criteria are based on the Cauchy-Stokes decomposition and/or eigenvalues of the velocity gradient tensor and can be considered as the second generation of vortex identification methods.Starting from 2014,the Vortex and Turbulence Research Team at the University of Texas at Arlington(the UTA team)focus on the development of a new generation of vortex identification methods.The first fruit of this effort,a new Omega(/2)vortex identification method,which defined a vortex as a connected region where the vorticity overtakes the deformation,was published in 2016.In 2017 and 2018,a Liutex(previously called Rortex)vector was proposed to provide a mathematical definition of the local rigid rotation part of the fluid motion,including both the local rotational axis and the rotational strength.Liutex/Rortex is a new physical quantity with scalar,vector and tensor forms exactly representing the local rigid rotation of fluids.Meanwhile,a decomposition of the vorticity to a rotational part namely Liutex/Rortex and an anti-symmetric shear part(RS decomposition)was introduced in 2018,and a universal decomposition of the velocity gradient tensor to a rotation part(7?)and a non-rotation part(NR、was also given in 2018 as a counterpart of the traditional Cauchy-Stokes decomposition.Later in early 2019,a Liutex/Rortex based Omega method called Omega-Liutex,which combines the respective advantages of both Liutex/Rortex and Omega methods,was developed.And a latest objective Omega method,which is still under development,is also briefly introduced.These advances are classified as the third generation of vortex identification methods in the current paper.To elaborate the advantages of the third-generation methods,six core issues for vortex definition and identification have been raised,including:(1)the absolute strength,(2)the relative strength,(3)the rotational axis,(4)the vortex core center location,(5)the vortex core size,(6)the vortex boundary.The new third generation of vortex identification methods can provide reasonable answers to these questions,while other vortex identification methods fail to answer all questions except for the approximation of vortex boundaries.The purpose of the current paper is to summarize the main ideas and methods of the third generation of vortex identification methods rather than to conduct a comprehensive review on the historical development of vortex identification methods. | Chaoqun Liu Yi-sheng Gao Xiang-rui Dong Yi-qian Wang Jian-ming Liu Yu-ning Zhang Xiao-shu Cai Nan Gui | 2019 | Journal of Hydrodynamics2019,31,2: | 82 |
| 2 | New omega vortex identification method显示文摘A new vortex identification criterion called W-method is proposed based on the ideas that vorticity overtakes deformation in vortex.The comparison with other vortex identification methods like Q-criterion and λ_2-method is conducted and the advantages of the new method can be summarized as follows:(1) the method is able to capture vortex well and very easy to perform;(2) the physical meaning of W is clear while the interpretations of iso-surface values of Q and λ_2 chosen to visualize vortices are obscure;(3)being different from Q and λ_2 iso-surface visualization which requires wildly various thresholds to capture the vortex structure properly, W is pretty universal and does not need much adjustment in different cases and the iso-surfaces of W=0.52 can always capture the vortices properly in all the cases at different time steps, which we investigated;(4) both strong and weak vortices can be captured well simultaneously while improper Q and λ_2 threshold may lead to strong vortex capture while weak vortices are lost or weak vortices are captured but strong vortices are smeared;(5) W=0.52 is a quantity to approximately define the vortex boundary. Note that, to calculate W, the length and velocity must be used in the non-dimensional form. | 3 | Explicit formula for the Liutex vector and physical meaning of vorticity based on the Liutex-Shear decomposition显示文摘In the present study, the physical meaning of vorticity is revisited based on the Liutex-Shear (RS) decomposition proposed by Liu et al. in the framework of Liutex (previously called Rortex), a vortex vector field with information of both rotation axis and swirling strength (Liu et al. 2018). It is demonstrated that the vorticity in the direction of rotational axis is twice the spatial mean angular velocity in the small neighborhood around the considered point while the imaginary part of the complex eigenvalue (2c.) of the velocity gradient tensor (if exist) is the pseudo-time average angular velocity of a trajectory moving circularly or spirally around the axis. | 4 | Liutex theoretical system and six core elements of vortex identification显示文摘The third-generation vortex identification method of Liutex(previously called Rortex)was introduced by the team led by Prof.Chaoqun Liu from University of Texas at Arlington to mathematically extract the rigid rotation part from the fluid motion,and thus to define and visualize vortices.Unlike the vorticity-based first generation and the scalar-valued second generation,Q,λ2,Δandλci methods for example,the Liutex vector provides a unique,mathematical and systematic way to define vortices and visualize vortical structures from multiple perspectives without ambiguity.In this article,we summarize the recent developments of the Liutex framework and discuss the Liutex theoretical system including its existence,uniqueness,stability,Galilean invariance,locality and globality,decomposition in tensor and vector forms,Liutex similarity in turbulence,and multiple Liutex-based vortex visualization methods including Liutex lines,Liutex magnitude iso-surfaces,Liutex-Ωmethod,and Liutex core line method,etc..Thereafter,the six core elements of vortex identification,including(1)absolute strength,(2)relative strength,(3)local rotational axis,(4)vortex rotation axes,(5)vortex core size,(6)vortex boundary,are used as touchstones against which the Liutex vortex identification system is examined.It is demonstrated with illustrative examples that the Liutex system is able to give complete and precise information of all six core elements in contrast to the failure and inaccuracy of the first and second-generation methods.The important concept that vorticity cannot represent vortex and the superiority of the Liutex system over previous methods are reiterated and stated in appropriate places throughout the paper.Finally,the article concludes with future perspectives,especially the application of the Liutex system in studying turbulence mechanisms encouraged by the discovery of Liutex similarity law.As a newly defined physical quantity,Liutex may open a door for quantified vortex and turbulence research including Liutex(vortex)dynamics and lead the community out of the shadow of turbulence research which traditionally relies on observations,graphics,assumptions,hypotheses,and other qualitative analyses.An optimistic projection is that the Liutex system could be critical to investigation of the vortex dynamics in applications from hydrodynamics,aerodynamics,oceanography,meteorology,etc.and to research of the generation,sustenance,modelling and controlling of turbulence. | Yi-qian Wang Yi-sheng Gao Hongyi Xu Xiang-rui Dong Jian-ming Liu Wen-qian Xu Meng-long Chen Chaoqun Liu | 2020 | Journal of Hydrodynamics2020,32,2: | 17 |
| 5 | A novel method for singularity analysis of the 6-SPS parallel mechanisms显示文摘Singularity analysis is a basic problem of parallel mechanism, and this problem cannot be avoided in both workspace and motion planning. How to express the singularity locus in an analytical form is the research emphasis for many researchers for a long time. This paper presents a new method for the singularity analysis of the 6-SPS parallel mechanism. The rotation matrix is described by quaternion, and both the rotation matrix and the coordinate vectors have been expanded to four-dimensional forms. Through analyzing the coupling relationship between the position variables and the orientation variables, utilizing properties of the quaternion, eight equivalent equations can be obtained. A new kind of Jacobian matrix is derived from those equations, and the analytical expression of the singularity locus is obtained by calculating the determinant of the new Jacobian matrix. | 6 | CNN Feature Boosted SeqSLAM for Real-Time Loop Closure Detection显示文摘This paper proposes an efficient and robust Loop closure detection(LCD) method based on Convolutional neural network(CNN) feature. The primary method is called SeqCNNSLAM, in which both the outputs of the intermediate layer of a pre-trained CNN and the outputs of traditional sequence-based matching procedure are incorporated, making it possible to handle the viewpoint and condition variance properly. An acceleration algorithm for SeqCNNSLAM is developed to reduce the search range for the current image, resulting in a new LCD method called A-SeqCNNSLAM. To improve the applicability of A-SeqCNNSLAM to new environments, O-SeqCNNSLAM is proposed for online parameters adjustment in A-SeqCNNSLAM. | 11 | Microstructural evolution of Au-Sn solder prepared by laminate rolling during annealing process显示文摘The microstructural evolution and interfacial reaction of the Au/Sn/Au/Sn/Au/Sn/Au couples were investigated during annealing at 453,523,and 543 K for up to 240 h.The Au/Sn combination formed a rapid diffusion system.Even in rolled Au-Sn solder,three phases,such as AuSn,AuSn2,and AuSn4,were formed.After initial annealing at 453 K,the diffusion layers of AuSn,AuSn2,and AuSn4,which were formed after rolling,expanded gradually and then fully transformed into ζ phase(containing Sn from 10% to 18.5%,mole fraction) and δ(AuSn) phase.As a whole,the microstructure of the couple was stable during annealing at 453 K.The solid-state interfacial reaction was much faster at 523 K than at 453 K.After annealing at 523 K for 6 h,the AuSn,AuSn2,and AuSn4 were fully transformed into the ζ phase and δ phase(AuSn) .In spite of the prolonged annealing time for up to 240 h,no significant change of the interfacial microstructure occurred,and the microstructure of the couple was stable during annealing at 523 K.When annealing at 543 K,however,the interfacial of Au/Sn was transformed into solid-liquid state,and the whole couple formed a eutectic structure rapidly,causing the solder to be brittle.The study results clearly demonstrate that the service temperature of the Au-Sn solder should be lower than 543 K. | WEI Xiaofeng WANG Richu FENG Yan ZHU Xuewei PENG Chaoqun | 2011 | Rare Metals2011,30,6: | 5 |
| 12 | Design and Optimization of a Single Stage Centrifugal Compressor for a Solar Dish-Brayton System显示文摘According to the requirements of a solar dish-Brayton system,a centrifugal compressor stage with a minimum total pressure ratio of 5,an adiabatic efficiency above 75% and a surge margin more than 12% needs to be designed.A single stage,which consists of impeller,radial vaned diffuser,90° crossover and two rows of axial stators,was chosen to satisfy this system.To achieve the stage performance,an impeller with a 6:1 total pressure ratio and an adiabatic efficiency of 90% was designed and its preliminary geometry came from an in-house one-dimensional program.Radial vaned diffuser was applied downstream of the impeller.Two rows of axial stators after 90° crossover were added to guide the flow into axial direction.Since jet-wake flow,shockwave and boundary layer separation coexisted in the impeller-diffuser region,optimization on the radius ratio of radial diffuser vane inlet to impeller exit,diffuser vane inlet blade angle and number of diffuser vanes was carried out at design point.Finally,an optimized centrifugal compressor stage fulfilled the high expectations and presented proper performance.Numerical simulation showed that at design point the stage adiabatic efficiency was 79.93% and the total pressure ratio was 5.6.The surge margin was 15%.The performance map including 80%,90% and 100% design speed was also presented. | Yongsheng Wang Kai Wang Zhiting Tong Feng Lin Chaoqun Nie Abraham Engeda | 2013 | Journal of Thermal Science2013,22,5: | 5 |

| 14 | Nd-Sr Isotopic Geochemistry of the Late Archean-Paleoproterozoic Granitoids in the Lüliang-Wutai Terrain,North China Craton,and Implications for Petrogenesis显示文摘In this paper we report geochemical and Nd-Sr isotopic data for a late Archean gneissic granitic pluton (Hengling pluton), an early Paleoproterozoic complex (Xipan complex) and a late Paleoproterozoic granitic pluton (Yunzhongshan granites) from the Lüliang-Wutai terrain, North China, to trace the source of these late Archean-Paleoproterozoic granitoids and, particularly, to understand the nature and mechanism of continental growth at that time. The Hengling granitic gneisses (ca. 2.51 Ga) are characterized by high Na2O and LILEs, TTG-like REE patterns (highly depleted HREE and minor Eu anomalies) and moderately depleted Nd-Sr isotopic compositions (εNd(t) =1.2?2.7, ISr=0.7015?0.7019), and were considered as being products of arc magmatism that was developed upon the North China craton. The Xipan complex (ca. 2.2 Ga) contain gabbroic diorite and monzonite, mostly being Na2O-rich, highly fractionated REE patterns and isotopically enriched (εNd(t) =?1.5 to ?4.1, ISr=0.7038?0.706). The gabbroic diorites probably originated from melting of an enriched mantle source, but significantly contaminated by lower crustal material, and the monzonites probably represent a product of a mixture between the gabbroic dioritic magma and granitic melts of crustal origin. The Yunzhongshan post-collisional granitoids (ca. 1.8 Ga) are characterized by high-K affinity and highly-enriched and homogeneous Nd isotopic compositions (εNd(t)=?4.9 to ?5.7), although they split into two groups in terms of REE patterns: one group showing elevated HREE (and Sc, Y and Zr) with significant negative Eu anomalies and the other showing highly depleted HREE and, to a lesser extent, mid-REE with negligible Eu anomalies. These granites are genetically related to a process of extensional collapse of a thickened orogen. They formed through magma mixing between mantle- derived basaltic magmas and crust-derived granitic melts, followed by significant fractionation of ferromagnesian phases (like hornblende and Cpx) and feldspar and accessory zircons. | 15 | Recent active thermal management technologies for the development of energy-optimized aerospace vehicles in China显示文摘Recently, the development of modern vehicles has brought about aggressive integration and miniaturization of on-board electrical and electronic devices. It will lead to exponential growth in both the overall waste heat and heat flux to be dissipated to maintain the devices within a safe temperature range. However, both the total heat sinks aboard and the cooling capacity of currently utilized thermal control strategy are severely limited, which threatens the lifetime of the on-board equipment and even the entire flight system and shrink the vehicle’s flight time and range. Facing these thermal challenges, the USA proposed the program of 'INVENT' to maximize utilities of the available heat sinks and enhance the cooling ability of thermal control strategies. Following the efforts done by the USA researchers, scientists in China fought their ways to develop thermal management technologies for Chinese advanced energy-optimized airplanes and spacecraft. This paper elaborates the available on-board heat sinks and aerospace thermal management systems using both active and passive technologies not confined to the technology in China. Subsequently, active thermal management technologies in China including fuel thermal management system, environment control system, non-fuel liquid cooling strategy are reviewed. | 16 | Manipulating dielectric property of polymer coatings toward highretention-rate lithium metal full batteries under harsh critical conditions显示文摘Lithium(Li)metal batteries(LMBs)can potentially deliver much higher energy density but remain plagued by uncontrollable Li plating with dendrite growth,unstable interfaces,and highly abundant excess Li(>50 mAh·cm^(-2)).Herein,different from the artificial layer or three-dimensional(3D)matrix host constructions,various dielectric polymers are initially well-comprehensively investigated from experimental characterizations to theoretical simulation to evaluate their functions in modulating Li ion distribution.As a proof of concept,a 3D interwoven high dielectric functional polymer(HDFP)nanofiber network with polar C-F dipole moments electrospun on copper(Cu)foil is designed,realizing uniform and controllable Li deposition capacity up to 5.0 mAh·cm^(-2),thereby enabling stable Li plating/stripping cycling over 1400 h at 1.0 mA·cm^(-2).More importantly,under the highcathode loading(~3.1 mAh·cm^(-2))and only 0.6×excess Li(N/P ratio of 1.6),the full cells retain capacity retention of 97.4%after 200 cycles at 3.36 mA·cm^(-2)and achieve high energy density(297.7 Wh·kg^(-1)at cell-level)under lean electrolyte conditions(15μL),much better than ever-reported literatures.Our work provides a new direction for designing high dielectric polymer coating toward high-retention-rate practical Li full batteries. | Qi Kang Zechao Zhuang Yong Li Yinze Zuo Jian Wang Yijie Liu Chaoqun Shi Jie Chen Hongfei Li Pingkai Jiang Xingyi Huang | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,7: | 3 |

| 18 | Efficacy and Safety of Yanggan Jian in Hepatitis B Virusrelated Decompensated Cirrhosis:A Randomized,Doubleblind,Controlled Trial显示文摘Background and Aims:The aim was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Yanggan Jian(YGJ)in HBV-infected patients with decompensated cirrhosis.Methods:This randomized,double-blind controlled trial enrolled 160 patients with HBV-related decompensated cirrhosis who were already receiving or about to start antiviral therapy.Patients were randomly assigned to receive YGJ or placebo for 24 weeks,and were followed-up to 36 weeks.The primary outcome was the proportion of patients with a≥2 point reduction in Child-Turcotte-Pugh(CTP)score from baseline at week 24.Secondary outcomes were CTP class and score,serum liver function indices,mortality,incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma and variceal bleeding.Results:The proportion of patients with a CTP score reduction≥2 was significantly greater in the YGJ than in the placebo group(p=0.009);the percentage of patients with CTP class C was significantly less than that in the placebo group(p<0.05),and the YGJ group had a significantly greater mean change from baseline in CTP score at week 24(p=0.034).The improvement in measured values and change from baseline of prothrombin time,serum albumin,platelets,cholinesterase,international normalized ratio,and activated partial thromboplastin time were significantly better with YGJ than with placebo.Between-group differences in cumulative rates of variceal bleeding,hepatocellular carcinoma,death,or the frequency of any adverse event(AE),AEs related to treatment,or discontinuation because of AEs were not significant.Conclusions:YGJ significantly improved CTP scores and hepatic synthetic and reserve function in patients with HBV-related decompensated cirrhosis,and was safe and well tolerated. | Long Chen Chaoqun Zhao Weili Yao Wei Liu Hua Zhang Yongping Mu Hong Cai Dongying Xue Chengbao Wang Wan’e Wang Yuehong Lin Jiamei Chen Ping Liu | 2023 | Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2023,11,1: | 3 |
| 19 | Performance analysis and improvement of a high flow coefficient centrifugal compressor显示文摘Very high flow coefficient centrifugal compressor stages are mostly applied as the first stages of multistage compressors.The performance of this type of stages is critical to the entire centrifugal compressors,but surprisingly little related information is available in the open literature.A centrifugal compressor with high inlet flow coefficient of 0.2,presenting a narrow operating range and unstable running situation even at design speed during the test,is investigated here.To reveal flow details in this centrifugal compressor,numerical simulations have been carried out and indicate that excessive impeller flow diffusion results in the poor performance of this centrifugal compressor.With the same inlet flow coefficient,six redesign cases coming from an in-house one-dimensional analysis program are proposed together with impeller trimming and equal flow area design method for corresponding vaneless diffuser.Performance comparison among these redesign centrifugal compressors is presented and the most suitable one is recommended for test in the future.In addition,three redesign cases with lower inlet flow coefficient developed by means of flow trimming are shown in the end to satisfy potential application areas.Finally,the results in this study can provide valuable reference information for multistage centrifugal compressor design. | WANG YongSheng WANG Kai LIN Feng NIE ChaoQun ENGEDA Abraham | 2014 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,8: | 3 |
| 20 | Sex Differences in Diagnosis and Clinical Phenotypes of Chinese Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder显示文摘The aim of this study was to explore the differences between boys and girls in the diagnosis and clinical phenotypes of autism spectrum disorder(ASD) in China's mainland. Children diagnosed with ASD(n = 1064, 228 females) were retrospectively included in the analysis. All children were assessed using the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised(ADI-R) and Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule(ADOS). The results showed that girls scored significantly higher in ADI-R socioemotional reciprocity than boys, and also scored lower in ADI-R and ADOS restricted and repetitive behaviors(RRBs). Meanwhile, the proportions of girls who satisfied the diagnostic cut-off scores in the ADI-R RRBs domain were lower than in boys(P \ 0.05). Our results indicated that girls with ASD show greater socio-emotional reciprocity than boys. Girls also tended to show fewer RRBs than boys, and the type of RRBs in girls differ from those in boys.
