Improved Roberts operator for detecting surface defects of heavy rails with superior precision and efficiency显示文摘An experimental platform accompanying with the improved Roberts algorithm has been developed to achieve accurate and real-time edge detection of surface defects on heavy rails.Detection results of scratching defects show that the improved Roberts operator can attain accurate positioning to defect contour and get complete edge information.Meanwhile,a decreasing amount of interference noises as well as more precise characteristic parameters of the extracted defects can also be confirmed for the improved algorithm.Furthermore, the BP neural network adopted for defects classification with the improved Roberts operator can obtain the target training precision with 98 iterative steps and time of 2s while that of traditional Roberts operator is 118 steps and 4s.Finally,an enhanced defects identification rate of 13.33%has also been confirmed after the Roberts operator is improved. The proposed detecting platform will be positive in producing high-quality heavy rails and guaranteeing the national transportation safety. | 石甜 Kong Jianyi Wang Xingdong Liu Zhao Xiong Jianliang | 2016 | High Technology Letters2016,22,2: | 7
The biological effect of recombinant humanized collagen on damaged skin induced by UV-photoaging:An in vivo study显示文摘The application of medical devices to repair skin damage is clinically accepted and natural polymer enjoys an important role in this field, such as collagen or hyaluronic acid, etc. However, the biosafety and efficacy of these implants are still challenged. In this study,a skin damage animal model was prepared by UV-photoaging and recombinant humanized type Ⅲ collagen(rhCol Ⅲ)was applied as a bioactive material to implant in vivo to study its biological effect, comparing with saline and uncrosslinked hyaluronic acid(HA).Animal skin conditions were non-invasively and dynamically monitored during the 8 weeks experiment.Histological observation, specific gene expression and other molecular biological methods were applied by the end of the animal experiment. The results indicated that rhCol Ⅲ could alleviate the skin photoaging caused by UV radiation, including reduce the thickening of epidermis and dermis, increase the secretion of Collagen Ⅰ(Col Ⅰ)and Collagen Ⅲ(Col Ⅲ)and remodel of extracellular matrix(ECM).Although the cell-material interaction and mechanism need more investigation, the effect of rhCol Ⅲ on damaged skin was discussed from influence on cells, reconstruction of ECM,and stimulus of small biological molecules based on current results. In conclusion, our findings provided rigorous biosafety information of rhCol Ⅲ and approved its potential in skin repair and regeneration.Although enormous efforts still need to be made to achieve successful translation from bench to clinic, the recombinant humanized collagen showed superiorities from both safety and efficacy aspects. | Jing Wang He Qiu Yang Xu Yongli Gao Peijie Tan Rui Zhao Zhanhong Liu Yajun Tang Xiangdong Zhu Chongyun Bao Hang Wang Hai Lin Xingdong Zhang | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,5: | 7
Validation and application of water levels derived from Sentinel-3A for the Brahmaputra River显示文摘For the first time ever, this study aims at applying Sentinel-3 A to the Great Brahmaputra River(GBR) and validating water levels derived from this newly-launched altimetry satellite mission. The GBR is divided into three primary parts:(1) a large section of the Yarlung Zangbo River in China, also termed the Upper Brahmaputra River(UBR) in this study, featured by high elevation, complex terrain, narrow river widths(from less than 100 to 400 m), and limited in situ measurements;(2) the Middle Brahmaputra River(MBR) with widths varying from ~400 m to ~1 km;(3) the Lower Brahmaputra River(LBR), dominated by braided channels with wide river channels(up to several kilometers). For the altimetry data, both waveform retracking and hooking effect correction were applied to mitigate the influence caused by land contamination and to improve the accuracy of water level retrievals. Water levels were derived from 41 virtual stations(VSs) across the GBR and different retracking algorithms were compared with in situ data from two gauging stations in the UBR. Time series of altimetry-based water levels were categorized into three types based on the quality: no data(type 1), degraded(type 2), and good(type 3). Results showed that the VSs(type 1) only existed in the mountainous regions, accounting for ~ a half of the total in the UBR. Validation with the gauged water levels showed that the TIC algorithm performed best among all of the retrackers applied, followed by the Ice-1 algorithm. The standard deviation of the difference between the gauged and TIC-derived water levels ranged from 0.41 to 0.76 m among four different VSs(type 3). In addition, the quality of VSs in the LBR was best, followed by the MBR. Our study has demonstrated the capability of Sentinel-3 A in monitoring water levels in the GBR, thereby paving the way for future applications such as discharge estimation and hydrologic/hydrodynamic applications. | HUANG Qi LI XingDong HAN PengFei LONG Di ZHAO FanYu HOU AiZhong | 2019 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2019,62,10: | 6
Evaluation on the corrosion resistance, antibacterial property and osteogenic activity of biodegradable Mg-Ca and Mg-Ca-Zn-Ag alloys显示文摘The rapid degradation of magnesium(Mg)-based implants in physiological environment limits its clinical applications, and alloying treatment is an effective way to regulate the degradation rate of Mg-based materials. In the present study, three Mg alloys, including Mg-0.8Ca(denoted as ZQ), Mg-0.8Ca-5Zn-1.5Ag(denoted as ZQ71) and Mg-0.8Ca-5Zn-2.5Ag(denoted as ZQ63), were fabricated by alloying with calcium(Ca), zinc(Zn) and silver(Ag). The results obtained from electrochemical corrosion tests and in vitro degradation evaluation demonstrated that the three Mg alloys exhibited distinct corrosion resistance, and ZQ71 exhibited the lowest degradation rate in vitro among them. After addition of Zn and Ag, the antibacterial potential of Mg alloys was also enhanced. The in vitro cell experiments showed that all the three Mg alloys had good biocompatibility. After implantation in a rat femoral defect, ZQ71 showed significantly higher osteogenic activity and bone substitution rate than ZQ63 and ZQ, due to its higher corrosion resistance as well as the stimulatory effects of the released metallic ions. In addition, the average daily degradation rate of each Mg alloy in vivo was significantly higher than that in vitro, as could be due to the implantation site located in the highly vascularized trabecular region. Importantly, the correlations between the in vitro and in vivo degradation parameters of the Mg alloys were systematically analyzed to find out the potential predictors of the in vivo degradation performance of the materials. The current work not only evaluated the clinical potential of the three biodegradable Mg alloys as bone grafts but also provided a feasible approach for predicting the in vivo degradation behavior of biodegradable materials. | Hewei Chen Bo Yuan Rui Zhao Xiao Yang Zhanwen Xiao Antoniac Aurora Bita Ana Iulia Xiangdong Zhu Antoniac Vasile Iulian Xingdong Zhang | 2022 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2022,10,12: | 3
Characteristics of plant calcium fractions for 25 species in Tengger Desert显示文摘Little attention has been paid to plant calcium fractions in the desert. To address the characteristic of the calcium fractions of desert plants,we collected 25 plant species in Tengger Desert, observed the calcium crystals using an optical microscope and determined water soluble calcium, acetic acid soluble calcium, and hydrochloric acid soluble calcium. To do so,we used sequential fractionation procedures to probe the relationships among different functional groups, different growth forms,or different successional stages. The results showed that the psammophyte, the late successional plants, and the drought-resistant shrub and semi-shrub all held considerable calcium oxalate crystal compared to the grassland plants, the early successional plants, and the perennial herb. With the proceeding succession, the acetic acid soluble calcium decreased gradually, and the hydrochloric acid soluble calcium increased gradually. The perennial herb had more water soluble calcium, while shrub held greater hydrochloric acid soluble calcium. The grassland plants held more water soluble calcium, while psammophyte had greater hydrochloric acid soluble calcium. This implies that the plants that are relatively sensitive to drought hold more calcium ion, while the drought-resistance plants hold more calcium oxalate. Thus, the plant calcium components are in close relation to plant drought-resistance,and of important significance in plant physiology of the desert. | HuaCong Ci XingDong lie Rong Li Wei Wu PingPing Xue YuBao Gao HaLin Zhao | 2010 | Research in Cold and Arid Regions2010,2,2: | 3
Optimal regenerative repair of large segmental bone defect in a goat model with osteoinductive calcium phosphate bioceramic implants显示文摘So far,how to achieve the optimal regenerative repair of large load-bearing bone defects using artificial bone grafts is a huge challenge in clinic. In this study,a strategy of combining osteoinductive biphasic calcium phosphate(BCP)bioceramic scaffolds with intramedullary nail fixation for creating stable osteogenic microenvironment was applied to repair large segmental bone defects(3.0 cm in length)in goat femur model. The material characterization results showed that the BCP scaffold had the initial compressive strength of over 2.0 MPa,and total porosity of 84%.The cell culture experiments demonstrated that the scaffold had the excellent ability to promote the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of rat bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs).The in vivo results showed that the intramedullary nail fixation maintained the initial stability and structural integrity of the implants at early stage, promoting the osteogenic process both guided and induced by the BCP scaffolds. At 9 months postoperatively, good integration between the implants and host bone was observed, and a large amount of newborn bones formed, accompanying with the degradation of the material. At 18 months postoperatively, almost the complete new bone substitution in the defect area was achieved. The maximum bending strength of the repaired bone defects reached to the 100% of normal femur at 18 months post-surgery.Our results demonstrated the good potential of osteoinductive BCP bioceramics in the regenerative repair of large load-bearing bone defects. The current study could provide an effective method to treat the clinical large segmental bone defects. | Wei Zhi Xiaohua Wang Dong Sun Taijun Chen Bo Yuan Xiangfeng Li Xuening Chen Jianxin Wang Zhao Xie Xiangdong Zhu Kai Zhang Xingdong Zhang | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,5: | 3
Osteoporotic bone recovery by a bamboo-structured bioceramic with controlled release of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles显示文摘While most bone defects can be repaired spontaneously, the healing process can be complicated due to insuf-ficient bone regeneration when osteoporosis occurs.Synthetic materials that intrinsically stimulate bone for-mation without inclusion of exogenous cells or growth factors represent a highly desirable alternative to current grafting strategies for the management of osteoporotic defects.Herein,we developed a series of hydroxyapatite bioceramics composed of a microwhiskered scaffold(wHA)reinforced with multiple layers of releasable hy-droxyapatite nanoparticles(nHA).These novel bioceramics(nwHA)are tunable to optimize the loading amount of nHA for osteoporotic bone formation. The utility of nwHA bioceramics for the proliferation or differentiation of osteoporotic osteoblasts in vitro is demonstrated.A much more compelling response is seen when bioceramics are implanted in critical-sized femur defects in osteoporotic rats,as nwHA bioceramics promote significantly higher bone regeneration and delay adjacent bone loss. Moreover, the nwHA bioceramics loaded with a mod-erate amount of nHA can induce new bone formation with a higher degree of ossification and homogenization. Two types of osteogenesis inside the nwHA bioceramic pores were discovered for the first time, depending on the direction of growth of the new bone. The current study recommends that these tailored hybrid micro/nano-structured bioceramics represent promising candidates for osteoporotic bone repair. | Rui Zhao Tieliang Shang Bo Yuan Xiangdong Zhu Xingdong Zhang Xiao Yang | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,11: | 2
Comparisons of plant calcium fraction between two different vegetation zones in semi-arid region显示文摘To explore the characteristics of plant calcium(Ca) fraction, we analyzed 91 plant species in the Ningxia Habahu National Nature Reserve in Yanchi County of Ningxia and 84 plant species in Zhenglan Banner of Inner Mongolia. Results show that, for the two regions, there is no significant difference between Ca fraction for the same growth type, and between water soluble Ca content or between hydrochloric acid soluble Ca content for plants of the same ecosystem and between hydrochloric acid soluble Ca content for plants of the same family. In similar vegetation zones, there is a significant difference among hydrochloric acid soluble Ca content for different growth types in Yanchi County and Zhenglan Banner, which was the highest for annual herbs and the lowest for perennial herbs. There is a significant difference between acetic acid soluble Ca content and between hydrochloric acid soluble Ca content for sandy land and grassland ecosystems in Yanchi County. There is a significant difference among the same Ca fraction of different families in the same region. Thus, the characteristics of plant Ca fraction are results of long-term adaptation to the environment. | MengQi Li XingDong He XiangXiang Yang YueDan Zhao YuBao Gao | 2018 | Research in Cold and Arid Regions2018,10,4: | 2
Effects of soil stoichiometry of the CaCO_3/available phosphorus ratio on plant density in Artemisia ordosica communities显示文摘In soil, CaCO3 can reduce the availability of phosphorus in arid and semi-arid regions, thereby influencing plant growth. However, the effects of soil stoichiometry of the CaCO3/available phosphorus ratio (CaCO3/AP ratio) on plant density are unknown. In this study, we examined 4 Artemisia ordosica communities located in arid and semi-arid regions, and performed a pot experiment with an orthogonal design to examine the relationships between the soil CaCO3/AP ratio and plant density. The results showed that the soil stoichiometry of the CaCO3/AP ratio had a greater effect on growth of A. ordosica than either CaCO3 or AP as single factor. The influence of the soil CaCO3/AP ratio on density of A. ordosica was related to the climatic zone and the types and/or amplitudes of increases in the soil CaCO3/AP ratio. When the soil CaCO3/AP ratio was within the same amplitude and was less than 2.5, the A. ordosica density increased in the semi-arid region, whereas the density decreased with increasing soil CaCO3/AP ratios in the arid region. In the semi-arid region, when the soil CaCO3/AP ratio was within the same amplitude and the increase in the soil CaCO3 content was greater than the increase in soil AP, the A. ordosica density increased with increasing soil CaCO3/AP ratios. This means that the relationship between the soil CaCO3/AP ratio and the A. ordosica density remained the same. In the arid region, an increase in the soil CaCO3/AP ratio as a result of increased soil CaCO3 content and decreased soil AP resulted in increased density of A. ordosica. Therefore, the relationship between soil CaCO3/AP ratios and density of A. ordosica was altered by these changes in soil chemistry. Thus, the soil stoichiometry of the CaCO3/AP ratio is an important factor affecting the density of A. ordosica in arid and semi-arid regions. | ZHAO XueLai HE XingDong XUE PingPing ZHANG Ning WU Wei LI Rong CI HuaCong XU JingJing GAO YuBao ZHAO HaLin | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,5: | 2
Construction of a magnesium hydroxide/graphene oxide/hydroxyapatite composite coating on Mg-Ca-Zn-Ag alloy to inhibit bacterial infection and promote bone regeneration显示文摘The improved corrosion resistance, osteogenic activity, and antibacterial ability are the key factors for promoting the large-scale clinical application of magnesium (Mg)-based implants. In the present study, a novel nanocomposite coating composed of inner magnesium hydroxide, middle graphene oxide, and outer hydroxyapatite (Mg(OH)_(2)/GO/HA) is constructed on the surface of Mg-0.8Ca-5Zn-1.5Ag by a combined strategy of hydrothermal treatment, electrophoretic deposition, and electrochemical deposition. The results of material characterization and electrochemical corrosion test showed that all the three coatings have high bonding strength, hydrophilicity and corrosion resistance. In vitro studies show that Mg(OH)2 indeed improves the antibacterial activity of the substrate. The next GO and GO/HA coating procedures both promote the osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells and show no harm to the antibacterial activity of Mg(OH)2 coating, but the latter exhibits the best promoting effect. In vivo studies demonstrate that the Mg alloy with the composite coating not only ameliorates osteolysis induced by bacterial invasion but also promotes bone regeneration under both normal and infected conditions. The current study provides a promising surface modification strategy for developing multifunctional Mg-based implants with good corrosion resistance, antibacterial ability and osteogenic activity to enlarge their biomedical applications. | Bo Yuan Hewei Chen Rui Zhao Xuangeng Deng Guo Chen Xiao Yang Zhanwen Xiao Antoniac Aurora Bita Ana Iulia Kai Zhang Xiangdong Zhu Antoniac Vasile Iulian Shen Hai Xingdong Zhang | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,12: | 2

Canine ACL reconstruction with an injectable hydroxyapatite/collagen paste for accelerated healing of tendon-bone interface显示文摘Healing of an anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)autologous graft in a bone tunnel occurs through the formation of fibrovascular scar tissue, which is structurally and compositionally inferior to normal fibrocartilaginous insertion and thus may increase the reconstruction failure and the rate of failure recurrence. In this study,an injectable hydroxyapatite/type I collagen(HAp/Col I)paste was developed to construct a suitable local microenvironment to accelerate the healing of bone-tendon interface.Physicochemical characterization demonstrated that the HAp/Col I paste was injectable, uniform and stable. The in vitro cell culture illustrated that the paste could promote MC3T3-E1 cells proliferation and osteogenic expression. The results of a canine ACL reconstruction study showed that the reconstructive ACL had similar texture and color as the native ACL.The average width of the tunnel, total bone volume, bone volume/tissue volume and trabecular number acquired from micro-CT analysis suggested that the healing of tendon-bone interface in experimental group was better than that in control group. The biomechanical test showed the maximal loads in experimental group achieved approximately half of native ACL’s maximal load at 24 weeks.According to histological examination,Sharpey fibers could be observed as early as 12 weeks postoperatively while a typical four-layer transitional structure of insertion site was regenerated at 48 weeks in the experimental group. The injectable HAp/Col I paste provided a biomimetic scaffold and microenvironment for early cell attachment and proliferation, further osteogenic expression and extracellular matrix deposition, and in vivo structural and functional regeneration of the tendon-bone interface. | Qingsong Jiang Liren Wang Zhanhong Liu Jinlei Su Yajun Tang Peijie Tan Xiangdong Zhu Kai Zhang Xing Ma Jia Jiang Jinzhong Zhao Hai Lin Xingdong Zhang | 2023 | Bioactive Materials2023,,2: | 1

Effects of soil nitrate:ammonium ratio on plant carbon:nitrogen ratio and growth rate of Artemisia sphaerocephala seedlings显示文摘Can soil nitrate: ammonium ratios influence plant carbon: nitrogen ratios of the early succession plant? Can plant carbon: nitrogen ratios limit the plant growth in early succession? To address these two questions, we performed a two-factor (soil nitrate: ammonium ratio and plant density) randomized block design and a uniform-precision rotatable central composite design pot experiments to examine the relationships between soil nitrate: ammonium ratios, the carbon: nitrogen ratios and growth rate of Artemisia sphaerocephala seedlings. Under adequate nutrient status, both soil nitrate: ammonium ratios and plant density influenced the carbon: nitrogen ratios and growth rate of A. sphaerocephala seedlings. Under the lower soil nitrate: ammonium ratios, with the increase of soil nitrate: ammonium ratios, the growth rates of plant height and shoot biomass of A. sphaerocephala seedlings decreased significantly; with the increase of plant carbon: nitrogen ratios, the growth rates of shoot biomass of A. sphaerocephala seedlings decreased significantly. Soil nitrate: ammonium ratios affected the carbon: nitrogen ratios of A. sphaerocephala seedlings by plant nitrogen but not by plant carbon. Thus, soil nitrate: ammonium ratios influenced the carbon: nitrogen ratios of A. sphaerocephala seedlings, and hence influenced its growth rates. Our results suggest that under adequate nutrient environment, soil nitrate: ammonium ratios can be a limiting factor for the growth of the early succession plant. | Rong Li XingDong He PingPing Xue HuaCong Ci Wei Wu YuBao Gao HaLin Zhao | 2010 | Research in Cold and Arid Regions2010,2,5: | 1
Effects of soil nitrogen:phosphorus ratio on growth rate of Artemisia ordosica seedlings显示文摘To address how the ratios of nitrogen and phosphorus (N:P ratios) in soil affect plant growth, we performed a two-factor (soil available N:P ratios and plant density) randomized block pot experiment to examine the relationships between soil N:P ratios, and the N:P ratios and growth rate of Artemisia ordosica seedlings. Under moderate water stress and adequate nutrient status, both soil N:P and plant density influenced the N:P ratios and growth rates of A. ordosica. With the increase of soil N:P ratios, the growth rates of A. ordosica seedlings decreased significantly. With the increase of soil N:P ratios, N:P ratios in A. ordosica seedlings increased significantly. While the nitrogen concentrations in the plant increased slightly, the phosphorus concentrations significantly decreased. With the increase of plant density, the shoot N:P ratios and growth rates significantly decreased, which resulted from soil N:P ratios. Thus, soil N:P ratios influenced the N:P ratios in A. ordosica seedlings, and hence, influenced its growth. Our results suggest that, under adequate nutrient environment, soil N:P ratios can be a limiting factor for plant growth. | Wei Wu XingDong He HuaCong Ci Rong Li PingPing Xue YuBao Gao HaLin Zhao | 2010 | Research in Cold and Arid Regions2010,2,4: | 1
Phenotypic plasticity of Artemisia ordosica seedlings in response to different levels of calcium carbonate in soil显示文摘Plant phenotypic plasticity is a common feature that is crucial for explaining interspecific competition, dynamics and biological evolution of plant communities. In this study, we tested the effects of soil CaCO_3(calcium carbonate) on the phenotypic plasticity of a psammophyte, Artemisia ordosica, an important plant species on sandy lands in arid and semi-arid areas of China, by performing pot experiments under different CaCO_3 contents with a two-factor randomized block design and two orthogonal designs. We analyzed the growth responses(including plant height, root length, shoot-leaf biomass and root biomass) of A. ordosica seedlings to different soil CaCO_3 contents. The results revealed that, with a greater soil CaCO_3 content, A. ordosica seedlings gradually grew more slowly, with their relative growth rates of plant height, root length, shoot-leaf biomass and root biomass all decreasing significantly. Root N/P ratios showed significant negative correlations with the relative growth rates of plant height, shoot-leaf biomass and root length of A. ordosica seedlings; however, the relative growth rate of root length increased significantly with the root P concentration increased, showing a positive correlation. These results demonstrate that soil CaCO_3 reduces the local P availability in soil, which produces a non-adaptive phenotypic plasticity to A. ordosica seedlings. This study should prove useful for planning and promoting the restoration of damaged/degraded vegetation in arid and semi-arid areas of China. | XUE Pingping ZHAO Xuelai GAO Yubao HE Xingdong | 2019 | Journal of Arid Land2019,11,1: | 1
Functionalize d 3D-printe d porous titanium scaffold induces in situ vascularized bone regeneration by orchestrating bone microenvironment显示文摘Titanium(Ti)and its alloys have been extensively explored for treating load-bearing bone defects.How-ever,high-stress shielding, weak osteogenic activity, and insufficient vascularization remain key chal-lenges for the long-term clinical outcomes of Ti-based implants.Herein, inspired by structural and func-tional cues of bone regeneration,a silicon-doped nano-hydroxyapatite(nSiHA)/titanium dioxide(TiO_(2))composite coating with a hierarchical micro/nano-network structure is constructed on the surface of a 3D-printed porous Ti scaffold via a combined strategy of acid-alkali(AA)treatment and electrochemi-cal deposition technique, which not only endows the scaffold with excellent osteoinduction ability but can also effectively immobilize and release vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF).The results of the in vitro cell experiments show that the functionalized Ti scaffold significantly promotes osteogenesis in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs)and angiogenesis in human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs)by activating the extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase(ERK)and HIF-1αsignaling pathways. After being implanted into a rat femoral condyle defect model, the functionalized Ti scaffold can induce in situ vascularized bone regeneration by orchestrating the two coupled processes of angio-genesis and osteogenesis. These findings indicate that the functionalized Ti scaffold has great potential in bone tissue regeneration and is a promising candidate for load-bearing bone defect repair. | Bo Yuan Pin Liu Rui Zhao Xiao Yang Zhanwen Xiao Kai Zhang Xiangdong Zhu Xingdong Zhang | 2023 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2023,,22: | 0
