Analysis and Numerical Simulation of Rolling Contact between Sphere and Cone显示文摘In non-conforming rolling contact, the contact stress is highly concentrated in the contact area. However, there are some limitations of the special contact model and stress model used for the theoretical study of the phenomenon, and this has prevented in-depth analysis of the associated friction, wear, and failure. This paper is particularly aimed at investigating the area of rolling contact between a sphere and a cone, for which purpose the boundary is determined by the Hertz theory and the geometries of the non-conforming surfaces. The phenomenon of stick-slip contact is observed to occur in the contact area under the condition of no-full-slip(Q < μ·P). Using the two-dimensional rolling contact theory developed by CARTER, the relative positions of the stick and slip regions and the distribution of the tangential force over the contact area are analyzed. Furthermore, each stress component is calculated based on the Mc Ewen theory and the idea of narrow band. The stress equations for the three-dimensional rolling contact between the sphere and the cone are obtained by the principle of superposition, and are used to perform some numerical simulations. The results show that the stress components have a large gradient along the boundary between the stick and slip regions, and that the maximum stress is inversely proportional to the contact coefficient and proportional to the friction coefficient. A new method for investigating the stress during non-classical three-dimensional rolling contact is proposed as a theoretical foundation for the analysis of the associated friction, wear, and failure. | ZHAO Yanling XIA Chengtao WANG Hongbo XUAN Jiaping XIANG Jingzhong LIU Xianli SU Xiangguo | 2015 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2015,28,3: | 18
A review of chatter vibration research in milling显示文摘Chatter is a self-excited vibration of parts in machining systems. It is widely present across a range of cutting processes, and has an impact upon both efficiency and quality in production processing. A great deal of research has been dedicated to the development of technologies that are able to predict and detect chatter. The purpose of these technologies is to facilitate the avoidance of chatter during cutting processes, which leads to better surface precision, higher productivity, and longer tool life. This paper summarizes the current state of the art in research regarding the problems of how to arrive at stable chatter prediction, chatter identification, and chatter control/-suppression, with a focus on milling processes. Particular focus is placed on the theoretical relationship between cutting chatter and process damping, tool runout, and gyroscopic effect, as well as the importance of this for chatter prediction. The paper concludes with some reflections regarding possible directions for future research in this field. | Caixu YUE Haining GAO Xianli LIU Steven Y.LIANG Lihui WANG | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2019,32,2: | 12
Novel Insights into Energy Storage Mechanism of Aqueous Rechargeable Zn/MnO2 Batteries with Participation of Mn2+显示文摘Aqueous rechargeable Zn/MnO2 zinc-ion batteries(ZIBs)are reviving recently due to their low cost,non-toxicity,and natural abundance. However, their energy storage mechanism remains controversial due to their complicated electrochemical reactions.Meanwhile,to achieve satisfactory cyclic stability and rate performance of the Zn/MnO2 ZIBs,Mn2+ is introduced in the electrolyte(e.g.,ZnSO4 solution),which leads to more complicated reactions inside the ZIBs systems.Herein, based on comprehensive analysis methods including electrochemical analysis and Pourbaix diagram,we provide novel insights into the energy storage mechanism of Zn/MnO2 batteries in the presence of Mn2+.A complex series of electrochemical reactions with the coparticipation of Zn2+,H+,Mn2+,SO42-,and OH-were revealed.During the first discharge process,co-insertion of Zn2+ and H+ promotes the transformation of MnO2 into ZnxMnO4,MnOOH,and Mn2O3,accompanying with increased electrolyte pH and the formation of ZnSO4·3 Zn(OH)2-5 H2O.During the subsequent charge process,ZnxMnO4,MnOOH,and Mn2O3 revert to a-MnO2 with the extraction of Zn2+ and H+,while ZnSO4·3Zn(OH)2·5H2O reacts with Mn2+ to form ZnMn3O7·3 H2O.In the following charge/discharge processes, besides aforementioned electrochemical reactions,Zn2+ reversibly insert into/extract from α-MnO2,ZnxMnO4,and ZnMn3O7·3H2O hosts;ZnSO4·3Zn(OH)2·5 H2O,Zn2Mn3O8,and ZnMn2O4 convert mutually with the participation of Mn2+.This work is believed to provide theoretical guidance for further research on high-performance ZIBs. | Yongfeng Huang Jian Mou Wenbao Liu Xianli Wang Liubing Dong Feiyu Kang Chengjun Xu | 2019 | Nano-Micro Letters2019,11,3: | 11
Hysteresis in sap flow and its controlling mechanisms for a deciduous broad-leaved tree species in a humid karst region显示文摘The critical zone(CZ) represents the intersection of the biosphere with the atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere.Understanding the hydrological processes and human impact factors on the CZ is fundamental to sustainable water resources management for agroforestry. Transpiration(T) is an important component of terrestrial evapotranspiration(ET), and understanding the time lag(TL) between vegetation transpiration and meteorological factors can improve our knowledge of the mechanisms of vegetation adaptability to a changing environment. However, the controlling factors on the TL remain poorly understood. Therefore, the objective of this study is identifying the temporal dynamics of key controlling factors on the TL, using a typical deciduous broad-leaved tree species(Zenia insigins Chun) of CZ in subtropical humid karst regions. This species is used as an example to explore the characteristics of the TL between SF(sap flow) and hydro-meteorological forcing. Sap flow in these 6 trees was monitored using the thermal dissipation probes(TDP). Results showed that:(1) the peak of diurnal sap flow generally lagged behind PAR but preceded Ta(air temperature), RH(relative humidity) and VPD(vapor pressure deficit), with the mean TL of-67.4 min(PAR), 90.5 min(Ta), 91.6 min(RH) and 92.9 min(VPD), respectively;(2) TL had no significant relationships with the daily mean meteorological factors and soil moisture, but was highly(R^2>0.66) correlated to CRs(changing rates of meteorological factors) in the morning;(3) At seasonal scale, the sap flow rate and TL both were controlled by the seasonality of precipitation and temperature. Overall, the seasonality of the TL was caused by plants' high water loss and strongly active physiological response in hot seasons, leading to close stomata earlier than in cold seasons;(4) The reason why CRs proposed can explain the TL better than mean values of metrological factors is that the CRs considered the distribution and change processes of metrological factors in the daytime. This study may be helpful for understanding the physiological response of vegetation to climatic change, and may be useful for constructing models to simulate transpiration processes more accurately during a day. | Rongfei ZHANG Xianli XU Meixian LIU Yaohua ZHANG Chaohao XU Ruzhou YI Wei LUO Chris SOULSBY | 2019 | Science China Earth Sciences2019,62,11: | 9
Grain boundary engineering with nano-scale InSb producing high performance In_(x)Ce_(y)Co_(4)Sb_(12+z)skutterudite thermoelectrics显示文摘Thermoelectric semiconductors based on CoSb_(3)hold the best promise for recovering industrial or automotive waste heat because of their high efficiency and relatively abundant,lead-free constituent elements. However, higher efficiency is needed before thermoelectrics reach economic viability for widespread use.In this study,n-type In_(x)Ce_(y)Co_(4)Sb_(12+z)skutterudites with high thermoelectric performance are produced by combining several phonon scattering mechanisms in a panoscopic synthesis.Using melt spinning followed by spark plasma sintering(MS-SPS),bulk In_(x)Ce_(y)Co_(4)Sb_(12+z)alloys are formed with grain boundaries decorated with nano-phase of InSb.The skutterudite matrix has grains on a scale of 100-200 nm and the InSb nano-phase with a typical size of 5e15 nm is evenly dispersed at the grain boundaries of the skutterudite matrix.Coupled with the presence of defects on the Sb sublattice, this multi-scale nanometer structure is exceptionally effective in scattering phonons and,therefore,InxCey-Co_(4)Sb_(12)/InSb nano-composites have very low lattice thermal conductivity and high zT values reaching in excess of 1.5 at 800 K. | Han Li Xianli Su Xinfeng Tang Qingjie Zhang Ctirad Uher G.Jeffrey Snyder Umut Aydemir | 2017 | Journal of Materiomics2017,3,4: | 7

Development and utilization of a new chemically-induced soybean library with a high mutation density显示文摘Mutagenized populations have provided important materials for introducing variation and identifying gene function in plants. In this study, an ethyl methanesulfonate(EMS)-induced soybean(Glycine max) population, consisting of 21,600 independent M_2 lines, was developed.Over 1,000 M_(4(5))families, with diverse abnormal phenotypes for seed composition, seed shape, plant morphology and maturity that are stably expressed across different environments and generations were identified. Phenotypic analysis of the population led to the identification of a yellow pigmentation mutant, gyl, that displayed significantly decreased chlorophyll(Chl) content and abnormal chloroplast development. Sequence analysis showed that gyl is allelic to Minn Gold, where a different single nucleotide polymorphism variation in the Mg-chelatase subunit gene(ChlI1a) results in golden yellow leaves. A cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence marker was developed and may be applied to marker-assisted selection for the golden yellow phenotype in soybean breeding. We show that the newly developed soybean EMS mutant population has potential for functional genomics research and genetic improvement in soybean. | Zhongfeng Li Lingxue Jiang Yansong Ma Zhongyan Wei Huilong Hong Zhangxiong Liu Jinhui Lei Ying Liu Rongxia Guan Yong Guo Longguo Jin Lijuan Zhang Yinghui Li Yulong Ren Wei He Ming Liu Nang Myint Phyu Sin Htwe Lin Liu Bingfu Guo Jian Song Bing Tan Guifeng Liu Maiquan Li Xianli Zhang Bo Liu Xuehui Shi Sining Han Sunan Hua Fulai Zhou Lili Yu Yanfei Li Shuang Wang Jun Wang Ruzhen Chang Lijuan Qiu | 2017 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2017,59,1: | 6
Realization of non-equilibrium process for high thermoelectric performance Sb-doped Ge Te显示文摘Pristine GeTe shows inferior thermoelectric performance around unit due to the large carrier concentration induced by the presence of intrinsic high concentration of Ge vacancy. In this study, we report a thermoelectric figure of merit ZT of 1.56 at 700 K, realized in Sb-doped GeTe based thermoelectric(TE)materials via combined effect of suppression of intrinsic Ge vacancy and Sb doping. The nonequilibrium nature during melt spinning process plays very important role. For one thing, it promotes the homogeneity in Ge_(1-x)Sb_xTe samples and refines the grain size of the product. Moreover the persistent Ge precipitated as impurity phase in the traditional synthesis process is found to be dissolved back into the GeTe sublattice, accompanying with a drastic suppression of Ge vacancies concentration which in combination with Sb electron doping significantly reduced the inherent carrier concentration in GeTe.Low carrier concentration, approaching the optimum carrier concentration ~3.74 × 10^(-20) cm^(-3) and a high power factor of 4.01 × 10^(-3) W m^(-1)K^(-2) at 750 K are achieved for Ge_(0.98)Sb_(0.02) Te sample. In addition, the enhanced grain boundary phonon scattering by refining the grain size through melt spinning(MS)process, coupled with the intensified alloying phonon scattering via Sb doping leads to low thermal conductivity of 1.53 W m^(-1) K^(-1) at 700 K for Ge_(0.94) Sb_(0.06) Te sample. All those contribute to a high ZT value, representing over 50% improvement in the ZT value compared to the Sb free samples, which provides an alternative way for ultrafast synthesis of high performance GeTe based thermoelectric material. | Evariste Nshimyimana Xianli Su Hongyao Xie Wei Liu Rigui Deng Tingting Luo Yonggao Yan Xinfeng Tang | 2018 | Science Bulletin2018,63,11: | 6

Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) in blood from children (age 9–12) in Taizhou, China显示文摘Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) as ubiquitous persistent organic pollutants have attracted much attention in recent years. Exposure to PBDEs could induce a high health risk for children. The aim of this study was to investigate the PBDEs exposure of children (9–12 years) from Taizhou, China. Fifty-eight blood samples were collected in one school in a mountainous area in Taizhou. The concentrations of ∑9PBDEs (sum of BDE-28, -47, -99, -100, -153, -154, -183, -197 and -209) ranged from 2.66 to 33.9 ng/g lipid wet (lw) with a median of 7.22 ng/g lw. These concentrations were lower than those of children in USA, but close to European and Asian general population levels. The results showed that children in Taizhou countryside were at a low level of PBDEs exposure. The predominant congener was BDE-209, followed by BDE-28, -47, -197 and -153. High abundance of BDE-209 was consistent with the pollution background of PBDEs in China characterized by high brominated congeners as main pollutants. | Xiaoyou Zhang Xianli Ruan Minchan Yan Yaxian Zhao Wuji Wei Zhanfen Qin Yongjian Yang Haiming Xu Yan Li | 2011 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,7: | 5
Large Chip Production Mechanism under the Extreme Load Cutting Conditions显示文摘There has existed a great deal of theory researches in term of chip production and chip breaking characteristics under conventional cutting and high speed cutting conditions, however, there isn't sufficient research on chip formation mechanism as well as its influence on cutting state regarding large workpieces under extreme load cutting. This paper presents a model of large saw-tooth chip through applying finite element simulation method, which gives a profound analysis about the characteristics of the extreme load cutting as well as morphology and removal of the large chip.In the meantime,a calculation formula that gives a quantitative description of the saw-tooth level regarding the large chip is established on the basis of cutting experiments on high temperature and high strength steel2.25Cr-lMo-0.25V.The cutting experiments are carried out by using the scanning electron microscope and super depth of field electron microscope to measure and calculate the large chip produced under different cutting parameters, which can verify the validity of the established model. The calculating results show that the large saw-toothed chip is produced under the squeezing action between workpiece and cutting tools. In the meanwhile, the chip develops a hardened layer where contacts the cutting tool and the saw-tooth of the chip tend to form in transverse direction. This research creates the theoretical model for large chip and performs the cutting experiments under the extreme load cutting condition,as well as analyzes the production mechanism of the large chip in the macro and micro conditions. Therefore, the proposed research could provide theoretical guidance and technical support in improving productivity and cutting technology research. | LIU Xianli HE Genghuang YAN Fugang CHENG Yaonan LIU Li | 2015 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2015,28,2: | 5
High-Performance Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries Realized by MOF Materials显示文摘Rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries(ZIB s) have been gaining increasing interest for large-scale energy storage applications due to their high safety, good rate capability, and low cost. However, the further development of ZIB s is impeded by two main challenges:Currently reported cathode materials usually suffer from rapid capacity fading or high toxicity, and meanwhile, unstable zinc stripping/plating on Zn anode seriously shortens the cycling life of ZIBs.In this paper,metal-organic framework(MOF) materials are proposed to simultaneously address these issues and realize high-performance ZIB s with Mn(BTC) MOF cathodes and ZIF-8-coated Zn(ZIF-8@Zn) anodes.Various MOF materials were synthesized, and Mn(BTC) MOF was found to exhibit the best Zn^2+-storage ability with a capacity of 112 mAh g^-1.Zn^2+ storage mechanism of the Mn(BTC) was carefully studied.Besides,ZIF-8@Zn anodes were prepared by coating ZIF-8 MOF material on Zn foils.Unique porous structure of the ZIF-8 coating guided uniform Zn stripping/plating on the surface of Zn anodes. As a result, the ZIF-8@Zn anodes exhibited stable Zn stripping/plating behaviors, with 8 times longer cycle life than bare Zn foils.Based on the above,high-performance aqueous ZIBs were constructed using the Mn(BTC) cathodes and the ZIF-8@Zn anodes, which displayed an excellent long-cycling stability without obvious capacity fading after 900 charge/discharge cycles. This work provides a new opportunity for high-performance energy storage system. | Xuechao Pu Baozheng Jiang Xianli Wang Wenbao Liu Liubing Dong Feiyu Kang Chengjun Xu | 2020 | Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,11: | 5
Optimization of Cutting Parameters for Trade-off Among Carbon Emissions, Surface Roughness, and Processing Time显示文摘As the manufacturing industry is facing increasingly serious environmental problems, because of which carbon tax policies are being implemented, choosing the optimum cutting parameters during the machining process is crucial for automobile panel dies in order to achieve synergistic minimization of the environment impact, product quality, and processing efficiency. This paper presents a processing task-based evaluation method to optimize the cutting parameters, considering the trade-off among carbon emissions, surface roughness, and processing time. Three objective models and their relationships with the cutting parameters were obtained through input–output, response surface, and theoretical analyses, respectively. Examples of cylindrical turning were applied to achieve a central composite design(CCD), and relative validation experiments were applied to evaluate the proposed method. The experiments were conducted on the CAK50135 di lathe cutting of AISI 1045 steel, and NSGA-Ⅱ was used to obtain the Pareto fronts of the three objectives. Based on the TOPSIS method, the Pareto solution set was ranked to find the optimal solution to evaluate and select the optimal cutting parameters. An S/N ratio analysis and contour plots were applied to analyze the influence of each decision variable on the optimization objective. Finally, the changing rules of a single factor for each objective were analyzed. The results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective in finding the trade-off among the three objectives and obtaining reasonable application ranges of the cutting parameters from Pareto fronts. | Zhipeng Jiang Dong Gao Yong Lu Xianli Liu | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2019,32,6: | 4

Adiabatic Shear Mechanisms for the Hard Cutting Process显示文摘The most important consequence of adiabatic shear phenomenon is formation of sawtooth chip. Lots of scholars focused on the formation mechanism of sawtooth, and the research often depended on experimental approach. For the present, the mechanism of sawtooth chip formation still remains some ambiguous aspects. This study develops a combined numerical and experimental approach to get deeper understanding of sawtooth chip formation mechanism for Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride(PCBN) tools orthogonal cutting hard steel GCr15. By adopting the Johnson-Cook material constitutive equations, the FEM simulation model established in this research effectively overcomes serious element distortions and cell singularity in high strain domain caused by large material deformation, and the adiabatic shear phenomenon is simulated successfully. Both the formation mechanism and process of sawtooth are simulated. Also, the change features regarding the cutting force as well as its effects on temperature are studied. More specifically, the contact of sawtooth formation frequency with cutting force fluctuation frequency is established. The cutting force and effect of cutting temperature on mechanism of adiabatic shear are investigated. Furthermore, the effects of the cutting condition on sawtooth chip formation are researched. The researching results show that cutting feed has the most important effect on sawtooth chip formation compared with cutting depth and speed. This research contributes a better understanding of mechanism, feature of chip formation in hard turning process, and supplies theoretical basis for the optimization of hard cutting process parameters. | YUE Caixu WANG Bo LIU Xianli FENG Huize CAI Chunbin | 2015 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2015,28,3: | 4
Substantial transition to clean household energy mix in rural China显示文摘The household energy mix has significant impacts on human health and climate,as it contributes greatly to many health-and climate-relevant air pollutants.Compared to the well-established urban energy statistical system, the rural household energy statistical system is incomplete and is often associated with high biases.Via a nationwide investigation, this study revealed high contributions to energy supply from coal and biomass fuels in the rural household energy sector, while electricity comprised∼20%.Stacking(the use of multiple sources of energy)is significant, and the average number of energy types was 2.8 per household.Compared to 2012,the consumption of biomass and coals in 2017 decreased by 45%and 12%,respectively,while the gas consumption amount increased by 204%.Increased gas and decreased coal consumptions were mainly in cooking, while decreased biomass was in both cooking(41%)and heating(59%).The time-sharing fraction of electricity and gases(E&G)for daily cooking grew, reaching 69%in 2017,but for space heating, traditional solid fuels were still dominant, with the national average shared fraction of E&G being only 20%.The non-uniform spatial distribution and the non-linear increase in the fraction of E&G indicated challenges to achieving universal access to modern cooking energy by 2030,particularly in less-developed rural and mountainous areas. In some non-typical heating zones, the increased share of E&G for heating was significant and largely driven by income growth, but in typical heating zones, the time-sharing fraction was<5%and was not significantly increased, except in areas with policy intervention. The intervention policy not only led to dramatic increases in the clean energy fraction for heating but also accelerated the clean cooking transition.Higher income, higher education, younger age, less energy/stove stacking and smaller family size positively impacted the clean energy transition. | Guofeng Shen Rui Xiong Yanlin Tian Zhihan Luo Bahabaike Jiangtulu Wenjun Meng Wei Du Jing Meng Yuanchen Chen Bing Xue Bin Wang Yonghong Duan Jia Duo Fenggui Fan Lei Huang Tianzhen Ju Fenggui Liu Shunxin Li Xianli Liu Yungui Li Mu Wang Ying Nan Bo Pan Yanfang Pan Lizhi Wang Eddy Zeng Chao Zhan Yilin Chen Huizhong Shen Hefa Cheng Shu Tao | 2022 | National Science Review2022,9,7: | 4

Hardening Effect on Machined Surface for Precise Hard Cutting Process with Consideration of Tool Wear显示文摘During hard cutting process there is severe thermodynamic coupling effect between cutting tool and workpiece, which causes quenching effect on finished surfaces under certain conditions. However, material phase transformation mechanism of heat treatment in cutting process is different from the one in traditional process, which leads to changes of the formation mechanism of damaged layer on machined workpiece surface. This paper researches on the generation mechanism of damaged layer on machined surface in the process of PCBN tool hard cutting hardened steel Cr12 Mo V. Rules of temperature change on machined surface and subsurface are got by means of finite element simulation. In phase transformation temperature experiments rapid transformation instrument is employed, and the effect of quenching under cutting conditions on generation of damaged layer is revealed. Based on that, the phase transformation points of temperature under cutting conditions are determined. By experiment, the effects of cutting speed and tool wear on white layer thickness in damaged layer are revealed. The temperature distribution law of third deformation zone is got by establishing the numerical prediction model, and thickness of white layer in damaged layer is predicted, taking the tool wear effect into consideration. The experimental results show that the model prediction is accurate, and the establishment of prediction model provides a reference for wise selection of parameters in precise hard cutting process. For the machining process with high demanding on surface integrity, the generation of damaged layer on machined surface can be controlled precisely by using the prediction model. | YUE Caixu LIU Xianli MA Jing LIU Zhaojing LIU Fei YANG Yongheng | 2014 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2014,27,6: | 3
