Prognostic value of systemic immune.inflammation index in patients with gastric cancer显示文摘Background:Inflammation-based indexes have been used to predict survival and recurrence in cancer patients.Systemic immune-inflammation index(Sll) was reported to be associated with prognosis in some malignant tumors. In the present study,we aimed to explore the association between Sll and the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer. Methods:We retrospectively analyzed data from 444 gastric cancer patients who underwent gastrectomy at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University between January 1994 and December 2005.Preoperative Sll was calculated. The Chi square test or Fisher's exact test was used to determine the relationship between preoperative Sll and clinicopathologic characteristics.Overall survival(OS) rates were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and the effect of Sll on OS was analyzed using the Cox proportional hazards model.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves were used to compare the predictive ability of Sll,NLR,and PLR.Results:Sll equal to or higher than 660 was significantly associated with old age, large tumor size, unfavorable Borrmann classification, advanced tumor invasion, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, advanced TNM stage, and high carcino-embryonic antigen level, high neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, and high platelet-lymphocyte ratio(all P<0.05).High Sll was significantly associated with unfavorable prognosis(P<0.001) and Sll was an independent predictor for OS(P=0.015).Subgroups analysis further showed significant associations between high Sll and short OS in stage Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ subgroups(all P<0.05).Sll was superior to NLR and PLR for predicting OS in patients with gastric cancer. Conclusion:Preoperative Sll level is an independent prognostic factor for OS in patients with gastric cancer. | Kang Wang Feiyu Diao Zhijun Ye Xinhua Zhang Ertao Zhai Hui Ren Tong Li Hui Wu Yulong He Shirong Cai Jianhui Chen | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Cancer2017,36,9: | 30

A cyclic nucleotide-gated channel mediates cytoplasmic calcium elevation and disease resistance in rice显示文摘The transient elevation of cytoplasmic calcium is essential for pathogen-associated molecular pattern(PAMP)-triggered immunity(PTI).However, the calcium channels responsible for this process have remained unknown. Here,we show that rice CDSI(CELL DEATH and SUSCEPTIBLE to BLAST 1)encoding OsCNGC9;a cyclic nucleotide-gated channel protein, positively regulates the resistance to rice blast disease. We show that OsCNGC9 mediates PAMP-induced Ca2+influx and that this event is critical for PAMPs-triggered ROS burst and induction of PTI-related defense gene expression. We further show that a PTI related receptor-lih cytoplasmic kinase OsRLCK185 physically interacts with and phosphorylates OsCNGC9 to activate its channel activity. Our results suggest a signaling cascade linking pattern recognition to calcium channel activation, which is required for initiation of PTI and disease resistance in rice. | Jiachang Wang Xi Liu An Zhang Yulong Ren Fuqing Wu Gang Wang Yang Xu Cailin Lei Shanshan Zhu Tian Pan Yongfei Wang Huan Zhang Fan Wang Yan-Qiu Tan Yupeng Wang Xin Jin Sheng Luo Chunlei Zhou Xiao Zhang Jinling Liu Shuai Wang Lingzhi Meng Yihua Wang Xi Chen Qibing Lin Xin Zhang Xiuping Guo Zhijun Cheng Jiulin Wang Yunlu Tian Shijia Liu Ling Jiang Chuanyin Wu Ertao Wang Jian-Min Zhou Yong-Fei Wang Haiyang Wang Jianmin Wan | 2019 | Cell Research2019,29,10: | 13
Transcriptional activation and phosphorylation of OsCNGC9 confer enhanced chilling tolerance in rice显示文摘Low temperature is a major environmental factor that limits plant growth and productivity.Although transient elevation of cytoplasmic calcium has long been recognized as a critical signal for plant cold tolerance, the calcium channels responsible for this process have remained largely elusive. Here we report that OsCNGC9,a cyclic nucleotide-gated channel, positively regulates chilling tolerance by mediating cytoplasmic calcium elevation in rice(Oryza sativa). We showed that the loss-of-function mutant of OsCNGC9 is defective in cold-induced calcium influx and more sensitive to prolonged cold treatment, whereas OsCNGC9 overexpression confers enhanced cold tolerance.Mechanistically,we demonstrated that in response to chilling stress,OsSAPK8,a homolog of Arabidopsis thaliana OST1,phosphorylates and activates OsCNGC9 to trigger Ca2+influx.Moreover,we found that the transcription of OsCNGC9 is activated by a rice dehydration-responsive element-binding transcription factor,OsDREB1A.Taken together, our results suggest that OsCNGC9 enhances chilling tolerance in rice through regulating cold-induced calcium influx and cytoplasmic calcium elevation. | Jiachang Wang Yulong Ren Xi Liu Sheng Luo Xiao Zhang Xin Liu Qibing Lin Shanshan Zhu Hua Wan Yang Yang Yu Zhang Bin Lei Chunlei Zhou Tian Pan Yongfei Wang Mingming Wu Ruonan jing Yang Xu Meng Han Fuqing Wu Cailin Lei Xiuping Guo Zhijun Cheng Xiaoming Zheng Yihua Wang Zhigang Zhao Ling Jiang Xin Zhang Yong-Fei Wang Haiyang Wang Jianmin Wan | 2021 | Molecular Plant2021,14,2: | 10
The application of antimicrobial peptides as growth and health promoters for swine显示文摘With the widespread ban on the use of antibiotics in swine feed, alternative measures need to be sought to maintain swine health and performance.Antimicrobial peptides(AMPs) are part of the nonspecific defense system and are natural antibiotics produced by plants, insects, mammalians, and micro-organisms as well as by chemical synthesis.Due to their broad microbicidal activity against various fungi, bacteria and enveloped viruses,AMPs are a potential alternative to conventional antibiotics for use in swine production. This review focuses on the structure and mechanism of action of AMPs,as well as their effects on performance, immune function and intestinal health in pigs. The aim is to provide support for the application of AMPs as feed additives replacing antibiotics in swine nutrition. | Hao Xiao Fangyuan Shao Miaomiao Wu Wenkai Ren Xia Xiong Bie Tan Yulong Yin | 2016 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2016,7,1: | 9
GW5-Like, a homolog of GW5, negatively regulates grain width, weight and salt resistance in rice显示文摘Grain size is an important determinant of yield potential in crops. We previously demonstrated that natural mutations in the regulatory sequences of qSW5/GW5 confer grain width diversity in rice. However, the biological function of a GW5 homolog, named GW5-Like(GW5 L), remains unknown. In this study, we report on GW5 L knockout mutants in Kitaake, a japonica cultivar(cv.)considered to have a weak gw5 variant allele that confers shorter and wider grains. GW5 L is evenly expressed in various tissues, and its protein product is localized to the plasma membrane. Biochemical assays verified that GW5 L functions in a similar fashion to GW5. It positively regulates brassinosteroid(BR) signaling through repression of the phosphorylation activity of GSK2. Genetic data show that GW5 L overexpression in either Kitaake or a GW5 knockout line, Kasaorf3(indica cv. Kasalath background), causes more slender, longer grains relative to the wild-type. We also show that GW5 L could confer salt stress resistance through an association with calmodulin protein OsCa M1-1. These findings identify GW5 L as a negative regulator of both grain size and salt stress tolerance, and provide a potential target for breeders to improve grain yield and salt stress resistance in rice. | Peng Tian Jiafan Liu Changling Mou Cuilan Shi Huan Zhang Zhichao Zhao Qibing Lin Jie Wang Jiulin Wang Xin Zhang Xiuping Guo Zhijun Cheng Shanshan Zhu Yulong Ren Cailin Lei Haiyang Wang Jianmin Wan | 2019 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2019,61,11: | 9
Exploring polyamines:Functions in embryo/fetal development显示文摘Polyamines such as putrescine, spermidine, spermine and agmatine are aliphatic polycationic compounds present in all living cells, and are derived from amino acids, intestinal bacteria, exfoliated enterocytes and supported from diet. Polyamines as the key compounds play essential role in cell proliferation, growth and differentiation. They also exert significant effects on embryonic development, implantation, embryonic diapause, placentation, angiogensis and fetal development. This review paper summarizes the functions of polyamines and embryo/fetus development and its regulatory mechanism which should help to provide some evidences for clinic. | Tarique Hussain Bi'e Tan Wenkai Ren Najma Rahu Dildar Hussain Kalhoro Yulong Yin | 2017 | Animal Nutrition2017,,1: | 6
Genetic-algorithm-based deep neural networks for highly efficient photonic device design显示文摘While deep learning has demonstrated tremendous potential for photonic device design,it often demands a large amount of labeled data to train these deep neural network models.Preparing these data requires high-resolution numerical simulations or experimental measurements and cost significant,if not prohibitive, time and resources. In this work,we present a highly efficient inverse design method that combines deep neural networks with a genetic algorithm to optimize the geometry of photonic devices in the polar coordinate system. The method requires significantly less training data compared with previous inverse design methods. We implement this method to design several ultra-compact silicon photonics devices with challenging properties including power splitters with uncommon splitting ratios,a TE mode converter, and a broadband power splitter. These devices are free of the features beyond the capability of photolithography and generally in compliance with silicon photonics fabrication design rules. | YANGMING REN LINGXUAN ZHANG WEIQIANG WANG XINYU WANG YUFANG LEI YULONG XUE XIAOCHEN SUN WENFU ZHANG | 2021 | Photonics Research2021,9,6: | 6
Development and utilization of a new chemically-induced soybean library with a high mutation density显示文摘Mutagenized populations have provided important materials for introducing variation and identifying gene function in plants. In this study, an ethyl methanesulfonate(EMS)-induced soybean(Glycine max) population, consisting of 21,600 independent M_2 lines, was developed.Over 1,000 M_(4(5))families, with diverse abnormal phenotypes for seed composition, seed shape, plant morphology and maturity that are stably expressed across different environments and generations were identified. Phenotypic analysis of the population led to the identification of a yellow pigmentation mutant, gyl, that displayed significantly decreased chlorophyll(Chl) content and abnormal chloroplast development. Sequence analysis showed that gyl is allelic to Minn Gold, where a different single nucleotide polymorphism variation in the Mg-chelatase subunit gene(ChlI1a) results in golden yellow leaves. A cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence marker was developed and may be applied to marker-assisted selection for the golden yellow phenotype in soybean breeding. We show that the newly developed soybean EMS mutant population has potential for functional genomics research and genetic improvement in soybean. | Zhongfeng Li Lingxue Jiang Yansong Ma Zhongyan Wei Huilong Hong Zhangxiong Liu Jinhui Lei Ying Liu Rongxia Guan Yong Guo Longguo Jin Lijuan Zhang Yinghui Li Yulong Ren Wei He Ming Liu Nang Myint Phyu Sin Htwe Lin Liu Bingfu Guo Jian Song Bing Tan Guifeng Liu Maiquan Li Xianli Zhang Bo Liu Xuehui Shi Sining Han Sunan Hua Fulai Zhou Lili Yu Yanfei Li Shuang Wang Jun Wang Ruzhen Chang Lijuan Qiu | 2017 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2017,59,1: | 6
Effects of combined chemical design(Cu addition) and topographical modification(SLA) of Ti-Cu/SLA for promoting osteogenic, angiogenic and antibacterial activities显示文摘Cu has been proved to possess various beneficial biological activities, while sandblasting and acid etching(SLA) is widely used to modify the commercial dental implant in order to improve osseointegration. Based on the above, a novel antimicrobial dental implant material, Ti-Cu alloy, was treated with SLA, to combine chemical design(Cu addition) and topographical modification(SLA). In this work, the effects of SLA treated Ti-Cu alloys(Ti-Cu/SLA) on osteogenesis, angiogenesis and antibacterial properties were evaluated from both in vitro and in vivo tests, and Ti/SLA and Ti-Cu(without SLA) were served as control groups. Benefiting by the combined effects of chemical design(Cu addition) and micro-submicron hybrid structures(SLA),Ti-Cu/SLA had significantly improved inhibitory effects on oral anaerobic bacteria(P. gingivalis and S.mutans) and could induce upregulation of osteogenic-related and angiogenic-related genes expression in vitro. More importantly, in vivo studies also demonstrated that Ti-Cu/SLA implants had wonderful biological performance. In the osseointegration model, Ti-Cu/SLA implant promoted osseointegration via increasing peri-implant bone formation and presenting good bone-binding, compared to Ti/SLA and Ti-Cu implants. Additionally, in the peri-implantitis model, Ti-Cu/SLA effectively resisted the bone resorption resulted from bacterial infection and meanwhile promoted osseointegration. All these results suggest that the novel multiple functional Ti-Cu/SLA implant with rapid osseointegration and bone resorption inhibition abilities has the potential application in the future dental implantation. | Rui Liu Yulong Tang Hui Liu Lilan Zeng Zheng Ma Jun Li Ying Zhao Ling Ren Ke Yang | 2020 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,47,12: | 6
A new equivalent method to obtain the stoichiometric fuel-air cloud from the inhomogeneous cloud based on FLACS-dispersion显示文摘The fuel-air cloud resulting from an accidental discharge event is normally irregular in shape and varying in concentration. Performance of dispersion simulations using the computational fluid dynamics(CFD)-based tool FLACS can get an uneven and irregular cloud. For the performance of gas explosion study with FLACS, the equivalent stoichiometric fuel-air cloud concept is widely applied to get a representative distribution of explosion loads. The Q9 cloud model that is employed in FLACS is an equivalent fuel-air cloud representation, in which the laminar burning velocity with first order SL and volume expansion ratio are taken into consideration. However, during an explosion in congested areas, the main part of the combustion involves turbulent flame propagation. Hence, to give a more reasonable equivalent fuel-air size, the turbulent burning velocity must be taken into consideration. The paper presents a new equivalent cloud method using the turbulent burning velocity, which is described as a function of SL, deduced from the TNO multi-energy method. | Yulong Zhang Yuxin Cao Lizhi Ren Xuesheng Liu | 2018 | Theoretical & Applied Mechanics Letters2018,8,2: | 5
Experimental investigation and theoretical modeling on scale behaviors of high salinity wastewater in zero liquid discharge process of coal chemical industry显示文摘Zero liquid discharge(ZLD)treatment and reuse equipment of high salinity wastewater in coal-chemical industry often occur in various types of blockage problems because of high salt content, affecting the long-term stability of the device. In this study, the effects of solution temperature, steel, reaction time and wall roughness on fouling were investigated. The changes in the contents of fouling and fouling substances were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by XRD and EDS respectively, and the formation of scale was observed by SEM.The results show that with temperature increasing,Q235 steel is the most difficult to scale.Scaling rate of all salt scales reaches a maximum after 12 h,and the fouling rate decreases significantly from 12 to 48 h.It gradually stabilizes at 48 to 96 h.With the roughness increasing, the thickness of fouling layer increases, and a linear relationship is presented for 1 to 10 h.By comparing actual and simulated wastewater scaling rates, the relationship between actual and simulated wastewater scaling rates is y=ax-0.494.The composition of the scale was analyzed, calcium carbonate is the main product and increases with fouling time.Based on the above-mentioned results combining literatures, the hybrid prediction model with calcium carbonate as the main product is put forward. It is discussed microscopically that calcium carbonate is converted from aragonite and vaterite in a thermodynamically metastable state to calcite in a thermodynamically stable state. | Kai Lu Yang Lü Youxiang Bai Jueru Zhang Nanxi Bie Yongsheng Ren Yulong Ma | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,4: | 5
Identification of a locus associated with genic male sterility in maize via EMS mutagenesis and bulked-segregant RNA-seq显示文摘Genic male sterility(GMS) is one of the most important resources for exploiting heterosis in crop breeding, so that identifying genomic loci regulating GMS is desirable. However, many regulatory genes controlling GMS have not yet been characterized in maize, owing partly to a lack of genetic materials. We generated a recessive male-sterile maize mutant in the Jing 724 genetic background via ethyl methanesulfonate treatment, and found the male sterility to be due to a single gene mutation. Bulk-segregant RNA sequencing of three replicates indicated that one genomic region located at the end of chromosome 4 was associated with the observed mutant phenotype. Among genes with nonsynonymous mutations,Zm00001 d053895(bHLH51) showed abolished expression in the sterile bulks and was annotated as a bHLH transcription factor orthologous to Arabidopsis AMS, suggesting an association with the male sterility of the mutant. Kompetitive Allele-Specific PCR assays further validated the exclusive correlation of male sterility with the single C-to-T mutation in the fifth exon. The new maize mutant and the potential SNP locus provide novel genetic material for investigating the molecular mechanism underlying tapetal development and may facilitate the improvement of hybrid production systems. | Zi Shi Wen Ren Yanxin Zhao Xiaqing Wang Ruyang Zhang Aiguo Su Shuai Wang Chunhui Li Jiarong Wang Shuaishuai Wang Yunxia Zhang Yulong Ji Wei Song Jiuran Zhao | 2021 | The Crop Journal2021,9,6: | 4
Impacts of Land-Use Data on the Simulation of Surface Air Temperature in Northwest China显示文摘This study examines the impacts of land-use data on the simulation of surface air temperature in Northwest China by the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF) model. International Geosphere–Biosphere Program(IGBP) landuse data with 500-m spatial resolution are generated from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)satellite products. These data are used to replace the default U.S. Geological Survey(USGS) land-use data in the WRF model. Based on the data recorded by national basic meteorological observing stations in Northwest China, results are compared and evaluated. It is found that replacing the default USGS land-use data in the WRF model with the IGBP data improves the ability of the model to simulate surface air temperature in Northwest China in July and December 2015. Errors in the simulated daytime surface air temperature are reduced, while the results vary between seasons. There is some variation in the degree and range of impacts of land-use data on surface air temperature among seasons. Using the IGBP data, the simulated daytime surface air temperature in July 2015 improves at a relatively small number of stations, but to a relatively large degree; whereas the simulation of daytime surface air temperature in December 2015 improves at almost all stations, but only to a relatively small degree(within 1°C). Mitigation of daytime surface air temperature overestimation in July 2015 is influenced mainly by the change in ground heat flux. The modification of underestimated temperature comes mainly from the improvement of simulated net radiation in December 2015. | Yaohui LI Cailing ZHAO Tiejun ZHANG Wei WANG Haixia DUAN Yuanpu LIU Yulong REN Zhaoxia PU | 2018 | Journal of Meteorological Research2018,32,6: | 2

Mitochondrion-targeted PENTATRICOPEPTIDE REPEAT5 is required for cis-splicing of nad4 intron 3 and endosperm development in rice显示文摘Endosperm as the storage organ of starch and protein in cereal crops largely determines grain yield and quality.Despite the fact that several pentatricopeptide repeat(PPR)proteins required for endosperm development have been identified in rice, the molecular mechanisms of many P-type PPR proteins in endosperm development remains unclear. Here,we isolated a rice floury endosperm mutant ppr5 that developed small starch grains and an abnormal aleurone layer, accompanied by decreased starch, protein, and amylose contents.Map-based cloning combined with a complementation test demonstrated that PPR5 encodes a P-type PPR protein that is localized to the mitochondria. The mutation in PPR5 caused reduced splicing efficiency of mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase 4(nad4)gene intron 3 and reduced complex I assembly and activity.Loss of PPR5 function greatly upregulated expression of alternative oxidases(AOXs),reduced ATP production, and affected mitochondrial morphology. We demonstrate that PPR5,as a P-type PPR protein,is required for mitochondrial function and endosperm development by controlling the cis-splicing of mitochondrial nad4 intron 3. | Long Zhang Yanzhou Qi Mingming Wu Lei Zhao Zhichao Zhao Cailin Lei Yuanyuan Hao Xiaowen Yu Yinglun Sun Xin Zhang Xiuping Guo Yulong Ren Jianmin Wan | 2021 | The Crop Journal2021,9,2: | 2
Rice FLOURY ENDOSPERM 18 encodes a pentatricopeptide repeat protein required for 5′ processing of mitochondrial nad5 messenger RNA and endosperm development显示文摘Pentatricopeptide repeat(PPR) proteins, composing one of the largest protein families in plants, are involved in RNA binding and regulation of organelle RNA metabolism at the posttranscriptional level. Although several PPR proteins have been implicated in endosperm development in rice(Oryza sativa), the molecular functions of many PPRs remain obscure. Here, we identified a rice endosperm mutant named floury endosperm 18(flo18) with pleiotropic defects in both reproductive and vegetative development.Map-based cloning and complementation tests showed that FLO18 encodes a mitochondriontargeted P-type PPR protein with 15 PPR motifs.Mitochondrial function was disrupted in the flo18 mutant, as evidenced by decreased assembly of Complex I in the mitochondrial electron transport chain and altered mitochondrial morphology. Loss of FLO18 function resulted in defective 5′-end processing of mitochondrial nad5 transcripts encoding subunit 5 of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydrogenase. These results suggested that FLO18 is involved in 5′-end processing of nad5 messenger RNA and plays an important role in mitochondrial function and endosperm development. | Mingzhou Yu Mingming Wu Yulong Ren Yihua Wang Jingfang Li Cailin Lei Yinglun Sun Xiuhao Bao Hongming Wu Hang Yang Tian Pan Yongfei Wang Ruonan Jing Mengyuan Yan Houda Zhang Lei Zhao Zhichao Zhao Xin Zhang Xiuping Guo Zhijun Cheng Bing Yang Ling Jiang Jianmin Wan | 2021 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2021,63,5: | 2
