1Changes in visibility with PM_(2.5) composition and relative humidity at a background site in the Pearl River Delta region显示文摘In fall–winter, 2007–2013, visibility and light scattering coefficients(b sp) were measured along with PM_(2.5)mass concentrations and chemical compositions at a background site in the Pearl River Delta(PRD) region. The daily average visibility increased significantly(p < 0.01) at a rate of 1.1 km/year, yet its median stabilized at ~13 km. No haze days occurred when the 24-hr mean PM_(2.5)mass concentration was below 75 μg/m^3. By multiple linear regression on the chemical budget of particle scattering coefficient(b sp), we obtained site-specific mass scattering efficiency(MSE) values of 6.5 ± 0.2, 2.6 ± 0.3, 2.4 ± 0.7 and 7.3 ± 1.2 m2/g,respectively, for organic matter(OM), ammonium sulfate(AS), ammonium nitrate(AN) and sea salt(SS). The reconstructed light extinction coefficient(b ext) based on the Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments(IMPROVE) algorithm with our site-specific MSE revealed that OM, AS, AN, SS and light-absorbing carbon(LAC) on average contributed 45.9% ± 1.6%,25.6% ± 1.2%, 12.0% ± 0.7%, 11.2% ± 0.9% and 5.4% ± 0.3% to light extinction, respectively.Averaged b ext displayed a significant reduction rate of 14.1/Mm·year(p < 0.05); this rate would be 82% higher if it were not counteracted by increasing relative humidity(RH) and hygroscopic growth factor(f(RH)) at rates of 2.5% and 0.16/year-1(p < 0.01), respectively, during the fall–winter, 2007–2013. 2Application of Multi-agent Models to Urban Expansion in Medium and Small Cities: A Case Study in Fuyang City,Zhejiang Province,China显示文摘In this study,three-phase satellite images were used to define rules for the allocation of time and space in construction land resources based on a complex adaptive system and game theory.The decision behavior and rules of government agent,enterprise agent and resident agent in construction land growth were explored.A distinctive and dynamic simulation model of construction land growth was built,which integrated multi-agent,GIS technology and RS data and described the interaction among influencing agents.Taking Fuyang City in the Changjiang River Delta as an example,an assessment process for the remote sensing data in construction land and scenario planning was constructed.Repast and ArcGIS were used as simulation platforms.A simulation of the spatial pattern in land-use planning and the setting of scenario planning were conducted by using the incomplete active game,which was based on different natural,social and economic levels.Through this model,a simulation of urban planning space and decision-making for Fuyang City was created.Relevant non-structured problems arising from urban planning management could be identified,and the process and logic of urban planning spatial decision-making could thus be improved.Cel1-by-cel1 comparison showed that the simulation accuracy was over 72%.This model has great potential for use by government and town planners in decision support and technique support in the policy-making process.ZHANG Jing WANG Ke SONG Gengxin ZHANG Zhongchu CHEN Xinming YU Zhoulu 2013Chinese Geographical Science2013,23,6:5
3Hospital-Based Phenotypic Features and Treatment Outcomes of Chinese Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: The Effect of Body Mass Index and Geographic Distribution显示文摘Genetic,lifestyle,and environmental factors contribute to the etiology of polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS).Increased body mass index(BMI)exacerbates the reproductive and metabolic parameters and reduces the fecundity of women with PCOS.This is a secondary analysis of a large-sample,multicenter,randomized controlled trial conducted at 21 sites in Chinese mainland.A total of 1000 women diagnosed with PCOS were enrolled in this trial.Of these,998 women with PCOS were included in the analysis.Increased BMI was associated with more severe menstrual irregularities,elevated testosterone level,higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome,and poorer quality of life.The rates of ovulation per woman for the normal,overweight,and obese BMI groups were 83.0%,78.2%,and 63.6%,respectively(P<0.001),and the rates of live birth were 23.6%,18.1%,and 15.3%(P=0.030).Northern PCOS patients showed more severe reproductive,glucose,and lipid profiles;less exercise;and lower total ovulation rates compared with PCOS patients from Southern China(74.8%vs 81.2%,absolute difference 6.4%,95%confidence interval 1.2%–11.5%).The results show the typical phenotypic features of Han women with PCOS in Northern and Southern China.The women living in Northern China showed a higher BMI,more severe glycolipid metabolism profiles,and subsequently worse clinical outcomes by the same interventions than those living in Southern China.The difference in phenotypic features can be explained mostly by differences in BMI and the resulting difference in ovulation.Jingshu Gao Hongli Ma Yu Wang Xinming Yang Yijuan Cao Bei Zhang Conghui Han Xiaoke Wua 2021Engineering2021,7,2:3

5Preparation of SiC Porous Ceramics by Crystalline Silicon Cutting Waste显示文摘SiC porous ceramics were prepared at 1 400 ℃ for4 h with crystalline silicon cutting waste and activated carbon as main starting materials and NH_4HCO_3 as the pore-forming agent. Effects of NH_4HCO_3 additions( 0,20%,30%,40%,by mass) on the phase composition,microstructure,sintering properties,cold compressive strength and thermal shock resistance of as-prepared Si C porous ceramics were investigated. The results show that:( 1) addition of NH_4HCO_3 remarkably influences the apparent porosity and cold compressive strength of specimens. The apparent porosity achieves its maximum value( 63. 40%) when 40% NH_4HCO_3 is added,while the minimum cold compressive strength is 4. 77 MPa;( 2) the specimen with 40% NH_4HCO_3 has the best thermal shock resistance. 6Enriched Opportunistic Pathogens Revealed by Metagenomic Sequencing Hint Potential Linkages between Pharyngeal Microbiota and COVID-19显示文摘As a respiratory tract virus,SARS-CoV-2 infected people through contacting with the upper respiratory tract first.Previous studies indicated that microbiota could modulate immune response against pathogen infection.In the present study,we performed metagenomic sequencing of pharyngeal swabs from eleven patients with COVID-19 and eleven Non-COVID-19 patients who had similar symptoms such as fever and cough.Through metagenomic analysis of the above two groups and a healthy group from the public data,there are 6502 species identified in the samples.Specifically,the Pielou index indicated a lower evenness of the microbiota in the COVID-19 group than that in the Non-COVID-19 group.Combined with the linear discriminant analysis(LDA)and the generalized linear model,eighty-one bacterial species were found with increased abundance in the COVID-19 group,where 51 species were enriched more than 8 folds.The top three enriched genera were Streptococcus,Prevotella and Campylobacter containing some opportunistic pathogens.More interestingly,through experiments,we found that two Streptococcus strains,S.suis and S.agalactiae,could stimulate the expression of ACE2 of Vero cells in vitro,which may promote SARS-CoV-2 infection.Therefore,these enriched pathogens in the pharynxes of COVID-19 patients may involve in the virus-host interactions to affect SARS-CoV-2 infection and cause potential secondary bacterial infections through changing the expression of the viral receptor ACE2 and/or modulate the host’s immune system.Dongyan Xiong Caroline Muema Xiaoxu Zhang Xinming Pan Jin Xiong Hang Yang Junping Yu Hongping Wei 2021Virologica Sinica2021,36,5:3
7Effect of pulsatile perfusion during cardiopulmonary bypass in terms of radial artery sphygmogram显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate a quantitative method for using radial artery pulse waveforms to assess the effect of pulsatile flow during cardiopulmonary bypass(CPB).METHODS: A total of 34 adults with heart disease who underwent open-heart surgery between April2010 and January 2011 were randomized into a pulsatile perfusion group(n=17) and a non-pulsatile perfusion group(n=17). Radial arterial pulse waveforms of pulsatile and non-pulsatile perfusion patients were observed and compared before and during CPB.RESULTS: No pulse waveform could be detected at patients' radial artery in both groups when the aorta was cross-clamped. Pulse waveforms could be detected at pulsatile perfusion patients' radial artery, but could not be detected at non-pulsatile perfusion patients' radial artery during CPB. 9Fast screening compositions of PM2.5 by ATR-FTIR: Comparison with results from IC and OC/EC analyzers显示文摘Chemical speciation of fine particles or PM_(2.5) collected on filters is still a costly and timeconsuming task. In this study, filter-based PM_(2.5) samples were collected during November–December 2013 at four sites in Guangzhou, and the major components were fast screened(~7 min per filter sample) by Attenuated Total Reflectance(ATR)-Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopic(FTIR) in comparison with that measured by Organic carbon/Element carbon(OC/EC) analyzer and Ion Chromatography(IC). The concentrations of nitrate, ammonium, sulfate,primary organic carbon(POC) and secondary organic carbon(SOC) measured by OC/EC and IC analyzers were better correlated with their infrared absorption peak heights at 1320 cm^(-1) for nitrate, 1435, 3045 and 3215 cm^(-1) for ammonium, 615 cm^(-1) for sulfate, 690, 760 and 890 cm^(-1) for POC and 1640 and 1660 cm^(-1) for SOC respectively, during polluted days(PM_(2.5)> 75 μg/m^3) than during clean days(PM_(2.5)≤ 75 μg/m^3). With the evolution of a haze episode during our field campaign, the concentrations of the major PM_(2.5) components displayed consistent variations with their infrared absorption peak heights, suggesting ATR-FTIR could be a fast and useful technique to characterize filter-based PM_(2.5) compositions particularly during pollution events although cautions should be taken when PM_(2.5) levels are low. 10Hull deformation measurement for spacecraft TT&C ship by Photogrammetry显示文摘When voyaging,ships are subject to inevitable hull deformations caused by the changes in the environmental temperature and external stress.These are a crucial source of errors when measuring data using a spacecraft tracking,telemetry,and control(TT&C) ship.A prototype system based on photogrammetry was developed for the real-time measurement of a spacecraft TT&C ship's hull deformation.This system has high accuracy,a simple structure,and convenient maintenance,and requires few changes to the ship's structures.To improve its performance,an estimation approach is proposed for hull deformation angles.With the proposed approach,the central positions of cross spots in successive frames can be predicted based on the prediction of the camera's attitude,and their extract locations can be found by defining a series of small windows around each predictive location.Then,the optimal estimate of the camera's attitude is updated by the designed extended Kalman filter using the extracted cross spots and their corresponding local coordinates,with which the hull deformation angles can be found.To verify the proposed measurement approach,its performance was tested during the normal sailing,floating,and rocking on the sea of a spacecraft TT&C ship.The experimental testing results demonstrated that the proposed approach performs well in terms of accuracy and robustness.It can satisfy the hull deformation measurement requirement for a spacecraft TT&C ship in real time.LIU HaiBo SUN Cong ZHANG YueQiang LIU XinMing LIU JinBo ZHANG XiaoHu YU QiFeng 2015Science China(Technological Sciences)2015,58,8:2

12Flocculated unclassified tailings settling efficiency improvement by particle collision optimization in the feedwell显示文摘Efficient thickening of tailings is a prerequisite for the metal mine tailings backfill and surface disposal operation.The effective collision of ultrafine tailings particles in suspension with flocculant molecules is essential for flocs aggregates formation and settling.Unreasonable feeding speed and flocculant adding method will lead to the failure of effective dispersion of flocculant and high particle content in thickener overflow.In this work,the effect of turbulence intensity and flocculant adding method on floc size,strength,and movement characteristics are analysed.Aiming to solve the turbidity increased,a pilot-scale continuous thickening test was carried out.Taking a single particle and multiple flocs of full tailings as the research object,the particle iterative settlement model of flocs was established.The influence of turbulence intensity on collision effect is studied by tracking and simulating particle trajectory.The results show that in the process of single particle settlement,chaos appears in the iterative process owing to particle adhesion which caused by micro action.When the turbulence intensity is 25.99%,the maximum particle size of tailings floc is 6.21 mm and the maximum sedimentation rate is 5.284 cm·s^(−1).The tailings floc presents a multi-scale structure of particle-force chain system when hindered settling,and the interweaving of strong and weak force chains constitutes the topological structure of particles.The results are applied to a thicker in plant,the flocculant addition mode and feed rate are optimized,and the flocs settling speed and overflow clarity are improved.Huazhe Jiao Weilin Chen Aixiang Wu Yang Yu Zhuen Ruan Rick Honaker Xinming Chen Jianxin Yu 2022International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2022,29,12:1
13Semen Analysis and Fecundity Association Among Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Experiencing Ovulatory Dysfunction Treated by Ovulation Induction显示文摘In this study,normal values of semen analysis were set for a general infertile population of couples among which most women had normal ovulation.The predictive capacity values of sperm quality,including concentration,motile count,progressive motile count,and morphology,are unclear for women with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS).A secondary analysis was conducted based on a randomized controlled trial investigating infertility among women with PCOS experiencing ovulatory disorder between 2011 and 2016 in China.A total of 1000 women received ovulation induction(acupuncture and clomiphene).We randomized the women with PCOS in 27 hospitals in China who received one of four interventions(acupuncture plus clomiphene,sham acupuncture plus clomiphene,acupuncture plus placebo,or sham acupuncture plus placebo).Semen analysis was performed for every male partner according to the World Health Organization(WHO)criteria.The outcomes included conception,clinical pregnancy,and live birth.Logistic regression was used to evaluate the predictive value of semen analysis among ovulatory women for conception,clinical pregnancy,and live birth.Among the 1000 couples,the number of couples who attained ovulation,conception,clinical pregnancy,and live birth were 780,320,235,and 205,respectively.Semen volume and motility were applied and used as prediction parameters for conception(area under the curve(AUC)of 0.62(95%confidence interval(CI),0.55–0.69)),clinical pregnancy(AUC of 0.67(95%CI:0.61–0.73)),and live birth(AUC of 0.57(95%CI:0.50–0.64)).No poor calibration was shown for these models in Hosmer–Lemeshow tests.The predictive capacity of semen analysis for treatment outcome in PCOS women with PCOS experiencing with ovulatory dysfunction is limited.Jingshu Gao Yu Wang Mubai Li Mengyi Zhu Xuekui Liu Hongli Ma Yijuan Cao Lu Li Xinming Yang Xiaoke Wu 2021Engineering2021,7,11:1

15How does a woodpecker work? An impact dynamics approach显示文摘To understand how a woodpecker is able accelerate its head to such a high velocity in a short amount of time,a multi-rigid-segment model of a woodpecker's body is established in this study.Based on the skeletal specimen of the woodpecker and several videos of woodpeckers pecking,the parameters of a three-degree-of-freedom system are determined.The high velocity of the head is found to be the result of a whipping effect,which could be affected by muscle torque and tendon stiffness.The mechanism of whipping is analyzed by comparing the response of a hinged rod to that of a rigid rod.Depending on the parameters,the dynamic behavior of a hinged rod is classified into three response modes.Of these,a high free-end velocity could be achieved in mode II.The model is then generalized to a multihinge condition,and the free-end velocity is found to increase with hinge number,which explains the high free-end velocity resulting from whipping.Furthermore,the effects of some other factors,such as damping and mass distribution,on the velocity are also discussed.Yuzhe Liu Xinming Qiu Tongxi Yu Jiawei Tao Ze Cheng 2015Acta Mechanica Sinica2015,31,2:1
