| 1 | Environmental impact factors and mercury speciation in the sediment along Fujian and eastern Guangdong coasts显示文摘Concentrations of total mercury (THg) and methyl mercury (MeHg) were determined for 32 surface sediments collected along the coastal line of Fujian Province and eastern Guangdong Province. The spatial distributions of THg and MeHg and their environmental impact factors were investigated. The average concentrations of THg and MeHg in the sediments were 31.5 ng/g and 0.096 ng/g, respectively. Both sediment THg and MeHg concentrations showed relatively high value in the Minjiang Estuary and the coastal areas of Quanzhou and Putian. The concentrations overall decreased as the distance to the shoreline increased. The correlations among environmental impact factors and THg, MeHg were analyzed. The sediment THg concentration was highly correlated to the concentrations of organic matter, copper, total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP), and significantly correlated to pH value of the bottom seawater and concentration of sediment sulfide. | 2 | Suppression of supercooling of PCM-water emulsions using nano-additives显示文摘This study aims to develop a paraffin-based phase change material(PCM) emulsion with a low extent of supercooling for thermal energy storage(TES) systems to improve the cooling efficiency.Hexadecane-water emulsions were prepared and characterized. Multi-wall carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) were dispersed in the emulsion as a nucleating agent to reduce the supercooling. The MWCNTs were chemically modified with carboxyl groups to improve the dispersion of the tubular particles in the organic liquid. Thermal analyses of the emulsions by differential scanning calorimeter(DSC) indicated that the extent of supercooling was significantly reduced. | 3 | Discrete twinning dynamics and size-dependent dislocation-to twin transition in body-centred cubic tungsten显示文摘Body-centred cubic(BCC) metals are known to have unstable intrinsic stacking faults and high resistance to deformation twinning, which can strongly influence their twinning behaviour. Though twinning mechanisms of BCC metals have been investigated for more than 60 years, the atomistic level dynamics of twinning remains under debate, especially regarding its impact on competition between twinning and slip. Here, we investigate the atomistic level dynamics of twinning in BCC tungsten(W) nanowires using in situ nanomechanical testing. Quantitative experimental studies directly visualize that deformation twins in W nanowires have a minimum size of six-layers and grow in increments of approximately three-layers at a time, in contrast to the layer-by-layer growth of deformation twins in face-centred cubic metals. These unique twinning dynamics induces a strong competition with ordinary dislocation slip,as exhibited by a size-dependent dislocation-to-twin transition in W nanowires, with a transition size of ~40 nm. | 10 | Ipsilateral versus bilateral limb-training in promoting the proliferation and differentiation of endogenous neural stem cells following cerebral infarction in rats显示文摘We investigated the effects of ipsilateral versus bilateral limb-training on promotion of endogenous neural stem cells in the peripheral infarct zone and the corresponding cerebral region in the unaffected hemisphere of rats with cerebral infarction. Middle cerebral artery occlusion was induced in Wistar rats. The rat forelimb on the unaffected side was either wrapped up with tape to force the use of the paretic forelimb in rats or not braked to allow bilateral forelimbs to participate in training. Daily training consisted of mesh drum training, balance beam training, and stick rolling training for a total of 40 minutes, once per day. Control rats received no training. At 14 days after functional training, rats receiving bilateral limb-training exhibited milder neurological impairment than that in the ipsilateral limb-training group or the control group. The number of nestin/glial fibrillary acidic protein-positive and nestin/microtubule-associated protein 2-positive cells in the peripheral infarct zone and in the corresponding cerebral region in the unaffected hemisphere was significantly higher in rats receiving bilateral limb-training than in rats receiving ipsilateral limb-training. These data suggest that bilateral limb-training can promote the proliferation and differentiation of endogenous neural stem cells in the bilateral hemispheres after cerebral infarction and accelerate the recovery of neurologic function. | 17 | Research on various factors influencing the moisture absorption property of sodium polyacrylate显示文摘Sodium polyacrylate was synthesized with acrylic acid as the monomer, and sodium bisulfate and ammonium persulfate as the initiator, by means of aqueous solution polymerization. The factors influencing the properties of moisture absorption, such as monomer concentration, dosage of initiator, and reaction temperature were systematically investigated. The experimental results indicate that the moisture-absorbing property of this polymer was better than other traditional material, such as silica gel, and molecular sieve. The best reaction condition and formula are based on the orthogonal experiment design. The optimum moisture absorbency of sodium polyacrylate reaches 1.01 g/g. The mathematical correlation of this polymer with various factors and moisture absorbency is obtained based on the multiple regression analysis. | 19 | Excessive branched-chain amino acid accumulation restricts mesenchymal stem cell-based therapy efficacy in myocardial infarction显示文摘Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)delivered into the post-ischemic heart milieu have a low survival and retention rate,thus restricting the cardioreparative efficacy of MSC-based therapy.Chronic ischemia results in metabolic reprogramming in the heart,but little is known about how these metabolic changes influence implanted MSCs.Here,we found that excessive branched-chain amino acid(BCAA)accumulation,a metabolic signature seen in the post-ischemic heart,was disadvantageous to the retention and cardioprotection of intramyocardially injected MSCs.Discovery-driven experiments revealed that BCAA at pathological levels sensitized MSCs to stress-induced cell death and premature senescence via accelerating the loss of histone 3 lysine 9 trimethylation(H3K9me3).A novel mTORC1/DUX4/KDM4E axis was identified as the cause of BCAA-induced H3K9me3 loss and adverse phenotype acquisition.Enhancing BCAA catabolic capability in MSCs via genetic/pharmacological approaches greatly improved their adaptation to the high BCAA milieu and strengthened their cardioprotective efficacy.We conclude that aberrant BCAA accumulation is detrimental to implanted MSCs via a previously unknown metabolite-signaling-epigenetic mechanism,emphasizing that the metabolic changes of the post-ischemic heart crucially influence the fate of implanted MSCs and their therapeutic benefits. | Fuyang Zhang Guangyu Hu Xiyao Chen Ling Zhang Lanyan Guo Congye Li Hang Zhao Zhe Cui Xiong Guo Fangfang Sun Dandan Song Wenjun Yan Yunlong Xia Shan Wang Miaomiao Fan Ling Tao | 2022 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2022,7,7: | 1 |
